The Brooklyn Inn Albee Square Reviews
Low-key , dimly-lit, wood everywhere kind of setting. Very cozy, with a decent selection of booze. Crowded but not overwhelmingly so.
Worked in the bar many many years ago, came back to see how it was. Lively, good service (cash only) and packed... great place
Classic bar, amazing vibe, solid and affordable drinks, feels as old as it is (I believe it is one of the first bars established in Brooklyn).
One of the place that never let us down. Good food and people. TOP.
Lovely place for a late night pint. The kind of bar staff you wish every establishment could have.
Loved the atmosphere of this place. Pretty standard neighborhood bar with great beer selection and a classic pub feel. If I lived closer could see myself becoming a regular.
Stopped in for a couple drinks and had a great evening. Super cozy neighborhood pub with affordable drinks, a pool table, and friendly staff. Will definitely be back often.
Really cool vibe in here. Popular local spot and worth stopping in for a drink or two if you’re in the area. Only drawback is it’s cash only but it’s a staple of the neighborhood and one of the coziest bars you’ll go to.
A lot of first dates, very romantic, but casual vibe. Cocktails were a little bit weak. But all in all a good experience.
Brilliant spot and great staff
Bartenders have polite humor and friendly vibes! great spot to catchup with old friends and shoot pool!
Locals only. (j/k) An institution. A paragon. A moral kiosk. A lighthouse on a Peninsula in a storm created by modernity.
This is the oldest bar in Brooklyn. Good drinks at a good price with a cool atmosphere. Pool table in the back is a nice touch.
Awesome local hang. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The decor is old school Brooklyn saloon, in an out of the way quiet area. Perfect.
Dark, dank and dreary, and I wouldn't want it any urge way! No TVs, no music. Just a great place to meet up with friends and share a few beers.
Very chill bar with a great, old school atmosphere. Come here for a date in the candle lit side room or shoot a casual game of pool in the back.
A True Brooklyn Staple. This place is the most comfortable neighborhood bar. You feel like you’re in some epic love story every time you go
super friendly and good space. the back room has a pool table and nice bartenders! happy to have found this gem
Great tenders, good selection of beer, historic Brooklyn location. One trip and it's become one of my favorite haunts.
Old timey bar. Good beer selection. No specialty drinks or happy hour specials. Great vibe though. Good people
Great neighborhood bar. Really nice staff. Gets crowded on weekends but a perfect place to grab a pint on weekends!
A great old bar! It gives a sort of dive vibe but they make a great martini!
Casual local bar that because of architecture and attitude becomes something much greater than that… pool table in the back room.
Great local bar good people great service
great place for a beer! the bar staff is friendly and responsive, even when packed. there is a fun pool table in the back and you might even see a small-time celebrity or two
Bloody love this place. Having lived in London for 16 years I was looking to find myself me local. This place does just that. Great woodwork inside, cute little ducks and granny’s about for some cheeky banter. Always a laugh when I’m here with me mates for a drink or two, usually four. Haha banter! Lads!
Awesome place, great staff, great drink options, really cool interior. Only downside are the mosquitos from under the outside deck when you sit outside. Still a great place though.
Beautiful, historic old saloon filled with dark, hand carved wood, mirrors, high, pressed tin ceilings, and a surprising number of intimate little spaces. Great neighborhood spot. I hope it never changes.
Fantastic bar with historic fixtures. Feels like it could be the 1890s in there. Great place to hang out.. Hope to go back soon
Went on a Sunday. Atmosphere was good, not crowded not too noisy, bartender was friendly and prompt. Seating is very limited though, we found a spot but it is was at all crowded we'd have been out of luck. Price was great, three beers for twenty bucks.
What a find! This place is a dream bar to have in your neighborhood. Very high ceilings, intricate adornments, tiny rooms and a beautiful long bar with stools with back support (i know i sound old, but it makes a difference). The venue has a lot of character and the drinks were great. I went at night and it was a fun vibe, I bet it's a great place to go during the day too.
One of Brooklyn’s oldest bars and one of our personal favorite watering holes! Friendly laid back bartenders in an old school cozy and chill atmosphere. We invite all our friends here to share a drink or two together.
Nice, friendly environment, bartenders were very friendly as well. Reasonably priced drinks and really close to public transportation.
Sometimes you find the perfect happy ending to a hard day of vacationing, and this was that place for my friend and I. After putting many miles on the feet, we arrived here to find good drinks and great company. Best bar experience in awhile. Cheers
The bar didn't have ingredients for a Paralyzer (milk) so the bartender Mark made us Mind Erasers (vodka, coffee liqueur and club soda) that were so delicious. He lost in a shot contest with my niece. Great guy and we had lots of fun. Nice rooms in the back for being a cozy group or shooting some pool.
One of the best dive bar out there. One of the oldest bar (if not the oldest) in Brooklyn, worth a stop just to see the building and space. And there is a pool table in the back. The atmosphere is good, the music not too loud and the pours are generous.
Decently priced drinks, a friendly bartender, a nice atmosphere. It’s kind of dark and romantic, with an old fashioned vibe. The back room has a pay-to-play pool table. The front room has booths and bar seating. A good spot for a date or an intimate gathering.
We loved this place. It's not fancy. It's not snooty, but it has a wealth of character, history, & ambiance. It's a basic bar in a historic building that has a very long history. We were sad that our visit was cut to just a couple of hours. Our bartender was great and gave us a brief history of the building & also allowed us to read a brief history of the building at the bar. We will definitely be back!
Wonderful staff. Great ambiance. Fantastic drinks. What else could you ask for? Daniel and Chris are best bartenders in the world!!!!!! Cmon down
Great, relaxed, well aged bar. Huge big mirrors make this place seem spacious but it's also got done nice hidden alcoves in the back and a pool table on the room at the back. Bar tenders are nice and drink selection is pretty good and reasonably priced.
One of the oldest bars in New York. Beautiful, comfortable, wonderful bartenders and friendly patrons. The bar features incredible time-worn original fixtures from the late 1800s... yet remains inexpensive and unpretentious. Basically it's the perfect neighborhood watering-hole.
Nice cocktails with a friendly bartender who stays open late. Comparable priced drinks for the area but a better environment. Billiards in the back which is usually open for playing during the day. Consistent drinks in a great atmosphere, a must try.
Nice old school divey type bar, decent selection on draft
Favorite neighborhood bar. Ask for Chris. He makes the best tiki drinks.
Best neighborhood bar, no competition. Drinks are cheap, service is fast (the bartenders are all great people), and cozy back area to play some pool. Been coming here for years and will return again and again!
Kelsey is the absolute man, had a great time with friends because Kelsey kept the great drinks coming and honestly this is our new favorite bar. Cheers and hope to see you again!
A true architectural gem.all the wood in the bar is still from the late 19th century. Beers were cold and reasonably priced for the neighborhood. If you want to step back in time and experience an old school brooklyn neighborhood pub. This is the place.
Loved this old time bar. It is said to be the oldest in Brooklyn. Loved the woodwork and even how it looks outside. It's located on a quiet tree lined street. The vibe is laid back. The prices are great. There is a pool table in the back. Alec, the bartender, was very nice. It's a neighborhood bar but the people are very welcoming. I will definitely be back.
Doesn't get more old school than this joint. In town being tourist. Our local friend had us cross the river and take a long Uber ride specifically to come to this place. Don't set your expectations very high. Keep this place great and don't change a thing.
Nice old bar with a lot of atmosphere. It's just off the main area of downtown Brooklyn and probably a bit more quiet than other places. Nice for a beer and a good conversation.
Great space, good vibes, pretty lame beer selection
I grew up around the corner from this place. I've heard it's the oldest bar in Brooklyn. It is a beautiful bar in a grand brownstone Brooklyn building. They only take cash, so be prepared.
Antique bar, with the only pool table I know of for about a mile around. Drinks are priced average for area. Heavy wood feeling, couple smaller rooms, neighboorhood feel.
Local watering hole. Smaller space w/ a pool table in the back with a separate room that can be a little more intimate. Decent selection of spirits.
Nice local spot with a good pool table. Walking distance from the main bars and restaurants on Smith St. The drinks are reasonably priced and they have good beers.
They carded at the door which is fine. Needs more seating. Overall cool vibes.
Very cool vibe inside- love the wood, the stained glass, all the candles, etc. Quite crowded on a Friday night ~9
Nice place as far as bars go. Quiet, calm, laid-back atmosphere. Drink prices are on point and selection of spirits and beer are wide. Coin operated pool table in the back - always a plus. Minor down side - cash only.
Crowded noisy bar (what do I expect right?) But really cool building and location. This bar has cute bathrooms (New York has some of the most creative bathrooms ever!) a pool table and little nooks to sit and drink everywhere. I like the historic vibe but it's cash only which is annoying and thus 4 stars.
This cool bar has good and cheap drinks with a hip Brooklyn crowd! The place seems to pack it in rather well too! This old school joint is a must do if you are in the hood or plan to be.....not a bad place to meet for a drink to start or end the night...check it out!
Such an awesome atmosphere. The place has high vaulted ceilings, incredibly old wooden walls, giant windows for plenty of natural light during the day, an 18th or 19th century bar imported from Germany (as I was told by the bartender), rickety floor boards, etc. It makes you feel like you are drinking a pint at an Olde English bar in the Sherlock Holmes times. Beer selection is not too bad and bar is fully stocked with all the liquors you can want. The bartenders I have encountered are all pretty nice and open to chatting while you sit at the bar. The bar has a back area with a pool table though I would recommend the front area as the atmosphere up there is what you come for at Brooklyn Inn
Worth a visit if for no other reason than to check out the well-maintained Victorian era decor. It's a serious time warp with its ornate woodwork and tin ceiling. There's also a pool table in the back, and a couple private "booths" you can nab if you're lucky. It makes an otherwise run-of-the-mill watering hole a destination.
This is a neighborhood bar with a good pool table and a great jukebox. If you come expecting anything else, your expectations may or may not be met. You should come, though. The beers on tap are always great and while its not a craft cocktail place, they do make pretty good cocktails.
Beautiful neighborhood pub with a varied draught beer selection of locals and micro. Has a pool table in the back. Dropped a star because they are cash only, with a $3 ATM fee.
I have to agree with everyone about the bartender. It seems that everyone one is talking about the same guy (kinda nerdy looking white guy with a belly?) but maybe that's in my head. Otherwise it's a chill atmosphere and the historic aspect is a nice thing to know.
Great place, great atmosphere, great beer. Bartenders can be snooty and very rude, though. Get your drinks, ignore the snobby service and enjoy your drinks in this cool place!
Bar is really nice. However there is a huge roach infestation there. Been there 3 times, went tonight with my friend and she noticed one on the bar.
The bar is a standard one. The bartenders lack any specialty, or genuine friendliness. I can't care about its historic character. The vibe and the crowd can feel quite stuffy. The kind of people who take the trip to somewhere to pay for cash-only alcohol just so they can fetishise 200 or something year old walls and perceive it as "culture" are - to say the least - just too white to be interesting in my book. This place's only useful piece is its pool table. That's all it has beyond an absolutely ordinary cash-only bar.
When me and my girlfriend spontaneously walked into The Brooklyn Inn for some Moscow Mules we were pleasantly surprised with the quaint and swank ambience inside. Unfortunately our experience was spoiled towards the end of the night due to the bar tenders insolence. We first witnessed the bartender shouting and swearing at customers (albeit they did appear difficult customers). As it was last orders I had politely said excuse me (since I wanted to check that there was enough time to play a game of pool) and in response the bar tender threw his finger up at me, not letting me even finish, turned around to everyone at the bar and indirectly ridiculed me for trying to get his attention. It is a great shame the night had ended like this as we would have liked to come back but due to the impertinent and childish behaviour witnessed we will not be returning.
I didn't feel even a little welcome. The long haired bartender made no eye contact beyond inital drink. Not friendly. Im a woman of color...surprise surprise Read the other reviews.
Looks beautiful from the outside and has impressive history. The obese white man with the beard who bartends is incredibly rude, judgmental and pretentious. Beware!
the bartenders are rude. it takes forever to get a drink. its obvious that they are inexperienced….
completely joyless establishment with racist bartenders who get off on policing anyone who’s not an old white man. if you’re a young woman or a woman of color or god forbid, a young woman of color, or have a state ID (literally federally accepted!) don’t bother giving these people your money
Was really excited to go to this inn however atmosphere was ruined but the most rude excuse for a human we where shouted at from as we entered we had seen reviews on the barkeepers preferences as we where from South Africa we where not welcomed friendly therefore we hid in the back as we didn’t want the barkeeper to ruin our night however she proceeded to follow us and scream at us no matter where we went it is a shame because the building is stunning however the owner is keeping staff there that ruin the whole experience would not recommend to anyone until the barkeeper has been fired
My friend and I walked in for drinks while exploring a bit of Brooklyn. The bartender was stand-off-ish from the start and automatically made us feel unwelcome. She was extremely friendly with a group of white older men at the end of the bar and ignored us after our first round. My friend asked the bartender for a second drink, but the bartender looked her straight in the eyes and walked away. The bartender then continued to chitchat with the group of men as she laughed with them and said, “I’m not racist, BUT….. “ and said something racist. She then helped someone else (also white) as she turned her back on us, pretending we weren’t there. We walked in loving the architecture and what we thought would be a great neighborhood bar and walked out feeling racially profiled and discriminated against. I wasn’t shocked to see all the bad reviews are from non-white folks. What a shame.
Well, this was disappointing. It looks like a nice place from the outside, but once you go in and try to order a cocktail you soon realize that's not the case. The service is non-existent, and the bartender seems much more interested in watching the time slowly pass than welcoming guests, offering drink options or - at least - being friendly. There are plenty of great places nearby - I recommend going somewhere else.
Last night while at the bar I noticed the manager throwing a absolute hissy fit, yelling, making a scene and kicking out a young man who was minding his business the whole night. The bartenders were also quite rude. Drinks on the expensive side. Definitely won’t be back.
Disappointing and Unacceptable: A Racist Experience at Brooklyn Inn I regret to say that my recent visit to Brooklyn Inn was nothing short of a deeply disturbing and profoundly racist experience. It is disheartening to encounter such blatant discrimination and prejudice in a supposedly inclusive and welcoming establishment. From the moment I entered the bar, I noticed an unsettling atmosphere that was dismissive and unfriendly towards individuals who did not fit into a particular racial profile. The staff's behavior was shockingly discriminatory, as they showed blatant favoritism towards customers of a specific race. I strongly advise against patronizing Brooklyn Inn.
I experienced racism & discrimination at this bar. Reading other comments it’s clear that this is how they train their staff. The bartender called me out specifically, the only black person in the bar. He was extremely rude and patronizing but not rude to my white girlfriend. The Brooklyn Inn is an actively, intentionally racist place.
i never write reviews and i don't even mind rude service but this was another level of disrespectful. dont come here if ur not a mean and bitter old man. i see all these five star reviews talking about cocktails, we asked about them and were told they don't serve any. just being rude for no reason.
Be aware! I Rarely write reviews; however my visit, to Brooklyn Inn left me unsettled and shocked as I observed a long haired bartender displaying aggressive and intimidating behavior, towards a patron. The bartender demeanor was shockingly impolite, unprofessional and extremely aggesrrive. Almost bordering on the side. The customer appeared courteous and composed. Was visibly disturbed and emotionally affected by the behavior they experienced. This kind of treatment is completely inappropriate and intolerable, in a setting such, as a bar where individuals gather to relax and have a time. I find it concerning that a person who displays such a temper is permitted to interact with customers as part of their job responsibilities. This particular occurrence has left me with a bad perception and I will never recommend this business unless appropriate measures are implemented toward the guy behind the counter. It is unjust for anyone to be subjected to behavior.
Thrown out of Brooklyn Inn for laughing — an outrageous display of aggression from the bartender. This was one of the most humiliating and infuriating experiences I’ve ever had in a bar. Our group had just started our night and was making our first order when the bartender — tall, long brown hair, looking like an unhappy Tarzan — decided to single us out and kick us out. We were literally kicked out for laughing. Our drinks were still sitting unfinished on the bar when we were forced to leave. The bartender’s behavior was aggressive, entitled, and completely unprovoked. It felt like a personal attack — he wasn’t maintaining order, he was flexing power and humiliating paying customers. His hostility ruined what should have been a fun and simple night out. Brooklyn Inn has lost all respect. A pub should welcome laughter and enjoyment, not punish it. If you want to spend your money somewhere you’ll actually be treated decently, go anywhere else in Brooklyn — this place isn’t worth it.
I have worked around the corner from this place my entire adult life. It has seen some (recently seldom, I'll admit, I'm a parent to young kids) life celebrations, and some work commiserations, but the last two times I have gone it has been about the most unpleasant bar experience I can recall. This evening I got some terrible news, needed a moment to myself and thought get a glass of wine and try to count your blessings. Instead I get ignored by two unbothered bartenders, one on his phone and the other chatting with friends. I'm the only person at the bar giving all signs I'm ready to order, but the only acknowledgement I get is a jerky thumb rocked back in my general direction from one barman to the other saying 'can you help?!" no, you can't. Life in New York is too expensive to spend a dime on this nonsense. Pro tip: it costs the same to be nice, it's Tuesday for goodness sake. Beautiful bar, imported millwork, everything that's nailed down is good.
I love this bar normally but I recently had an awful experience with one of the male bartenders who verbally berated me. He was a tall man with short hair wearing a baseball cap and he was relentlessly rude to me which was both extremely unnerving and disrespectful. I’ve never been treated that way at this bar before and I would hope that management sees this and knows who I’m talking about so they can deal with this bartender who should not be in any kind of service industry.
