the al pastor is amazing! the lunch does not have queso on the burrito, and the dinner plate has 2 burritos and queso on top.

Very nice people we where sat right way! The service was A1 even though I wasn’t feeling like eating that day since I was just joining my mom for lunch the server was nice enough to offer me their sopapillas with ice cream which I indeed fell for which I’m glad I did because they where a 10/10 the service was amazing and so was the price definitely going to be on my rotation for lunch

The combo fajitas of chicken and shrimp are super good and juicy…the portion size is great!! First time here definitely will come back. The caldo de res is super good and if you’re wanting breakfast they have it all day on Saturdays

Came in from out of town and asked the hotel receptionist where we can get good authentic food, she recommended this place and it did not disappoint! The rice and beans were full of flavor, the burritos were on point so were the tacos. I think we found a new favorite spot to eat next time we are in town! Great authentic Mexican food. My sister has been out of the country for four months and was craving Mexican food. This place fit the bill and did not disappoint. And we were able to buy a dozen tortillas to take home with us.

Recommended by our local Air B&B hosts, El Tejavan did not disappoint! From he house Chilton happy hour special to our server’s recommendation of the enchiladas montadas (chicken enchiladas with green sauce topped eggs over easy), everything was a hit. We sent back clean plates and shared a tres leches.

My wife and I have enjoyed lunches and dinner at this western-central location for as long as it’s been open (20 years maybe?) but I’ve never taken breakfast here. I partook of the finest Mexican breakfast I’ve yet had in Amarillo. The chilaquiles with guisado (red stewed beef) and huevos (scrambled.) From the quality of ingredients, the homemade tastes, the presentation and the portions, the breakfast was scrumptious. Service was excellent, coffee was good, hot and refilled. The chips are not my favorite (no salt, don’t taste freshly fried) and the salsa thin but stinging hot.

I eat here often and love introducing out or towners and new residents. It’s my favorite Mexican food. The hot sauce (salsa) is my favorite! The tomatillo sauce is great with any of the meats. It’s not traditional Tex-Mex. If you are looking for Tex Mex I recommended the fajitas, high quality chicken and beef. My favorite entree is carne asada (in the photo)! I also like asada tacos with onions, cilantro and queso fresco. Cheese enchiladas are wonderful too (they use the same queso fresco). For breakfast the carne asada with chilaquiles is the best. The flour tortillas are thin, soft and really big. Also try the fresh chunky guacamole! The food is always consistent and it’s always clean.

11.29.2024.. Came here on a recommendation and was served by Brenda. The Three Enchiladas Plate was AMAZING, and I was able to get a beef, cheese, and chicken one with my meal. Delicious food and Fantastic service. Highly recommend and will definitely return to try more menu items.

Simply spectacular… I’ve driven 1700 miles of my 2300 mile trip. I found this place using Google maps, based on the reviews. I had the chicken moly, the fresh guacamole, and the shrimp and chicken fajitas. It was all delicious in the service was excellent as well. I also posted pictures of their new menus.

Food was really good! Our server (Angie, per our receipt) was really nice and friendly. I wanted to take a picture of what I ordered but I ate too fast lol my camarones a la diabla were delicious and spicy the way I like it and my vegan husband loved what he ordered (see picture) as well

Authentic Mexican food! The atmosphere was nice. The staff was super observant. The food was made fresh and came hot. Dine in eating available. We had the Asada tacos which came with heaping amount of meat. (Ask for the "other salsa".) We also had the breakfast plate tree hat came with chilaquiles and a beef guiso with red sauce. The refried beans were phenominal. The second entre came with one large flour tortilla. We were disappointed at first because we thought we would need more. We didn't. Didn't even finish the first one it was that huge. We loved our food and will definitely be back.

Get the chunky guac, it was awesome. Taco plate was fantastic, I got the pork ones. The free salsa is also really good. One friend claimed “top 5 free salsas” ever. Veggies tacos were highly rated as well as the breakfast burrito. 5 star for price, service, speed, and ease of a quick and delicious lunch.

El Tejavan is a great authentic Mexican restaurant right off of I-40 on your through Amarillo. They have great food lots of seating and the restaurant is a favorite with travelers and locals. The staff very friendly and efficient and we almost never ran out of chips. The bathrooms were very clean aside from some vandalism that had been done. Great place for large groups or families or just two. The atmosphere feels like you are in Mexico.

The food is usually pretty good. My problem is with the take out burritos. They cost $7.00 Sometimes the potatoes are hard. They are different sizes. I came in Saturday got 2 breakfast burritos. They were good. I went in on Monday, ordered the same burrito. But when I opened the bag, the single burrito was barely taco size. I tried to ask the hostess that brought out the bag. She replied that the eggs were probably smaller. 😳 I ordered without eggs..of course the burrito was mostly tortilla. I had stopped going there exactly for this reason. I hate being cheated. The burrito was nearly half the size. A $7.00 burrito shouldn't lay flat in the bottom of the bag.

I wish I had read the warnings before going here. Everything from the bland food to the slow service made this one of the most frustrating dining experiences I’ve ever had. Nothing and I mean nothing tasted fresh. It felt like they gave up on quality a long time ago. Definitely won’t be returning.
