Lo Vierdza Antey-Saint-André Reviews
La Vierdza is a special place: the food is excellent, carefully prepared and with authentic flavors. The atmosphere is relaxing, ideal for rejuvenating mind and body. The people who run it are fantastic, welcoming, and genuine, making the experience even more enjoyable. A place to experience and recommend!
Typical mountain place, we always find ourselves very well, friendly managers, it is very easy and fast to rent the equipment, the slope was fantastic and the food very good, a polenta with sausage really good. We often go to Torgnon for a day of cross-country skiing and we always find ourselves very well.
An excellent base for Nordic skiing. A well-stocked rental shop, including a day pass for the trail, is available. There are restrooms and a changing room with showers and lockers for storing personal belongings. The bar-restaurant is welcoming and the owners are very friendly. You can park in front or along the road leading to it. You can also take easy walks with snowshoes, which can also be rented on site. As for cross-country skiing, the Grandes Montagnes trail is, I believe, among the sunniest in the Aosta Valley and Piedmont. So be careful about late arrivals, because where the sun melts the snow, at sunset, the cold can cause ice to form. The final section of the trail, after a series of uphill switchbacks, leads to a pass with a splendid view of the Matterhorn at almost 2,200 meters above sea level (that's all there is to it; the trail ends, you turn your skis around, and you're off on a long descent that isn't particularly difficult in normal conditions). The other trail is supposed to be more technical, but I haven't ridden it. Additional support points are located just above Lo Vierdzà at the arrival point of the cable car and the departure point of the alpine ski lifts. There's nothing beyond, except beautiful nature. The photos are of the Grandes Montagnes route.
tasty food with nice service. Nice nordic ski tracks in winter. Play area in summer. Very close to ski courses but less crowded than others. Our favourite chalet.
Good typical food
Bar and restaurant at the start of the cross-country ski trails. They rent good-quality ski equipment at reasonable prices. They are courteous and quick to serve their customers.
I expected something more! The big flaw is the organization 😐, the table staff is young, polite but a little confused. If you call to reserve, they'll tell you they don't keep tables reserved, but when you arrive, they'll ask if you called to reserve seats 🤔🤔🤔... good food and medium/high prices. The desserts are good.
Unfortunately, I have to give it an unsatisfactory rating. The service leaves much to be desired, especially regarding the aperitivo, with only a few appetizers, and the prices are generally not competitive. The coffee isn't the best, and at €1.10, it's a real shame. The freshly made gelato is definitely better. I've never tried lunch, so I can't comment. The location is good, and its proximity to both car and foot traffic certainly makes it a popular spot. It's a shame that the opening hours and days aren't always suitable for tourist traffic, and it's often closed outside of peak season. It's a shame, because it has all the potential to be a success, but for now, it still leaves much to be desired.
An annoying experience from start to finish. More than customers, we felt like a hindrance. Throughout the meal (with our plates still full), we were constantly asked if we wanted anything else—not out of consideration, but with the clear intent of rushing us to finish so they could clear the table. This constant, intrusive pressure made it impossible to eat in peace. The owner proved arrogant and unprofessional, with rude and inappropriate behavior and comments. The staff exhibited the same style: rude, hasty, and completely lacking in customer service. The food was mediocre and didn't even begin to justify the prices. Absolutely not recommended.
A very beautiful place, located on a stunning plateau. The food is of unacceptable quality. The pasta is overcooked, and the cured meats and cheese platter consists of "first-rate" cured meats, sold at a premium. A great shame, considering the place's potential, especially since the final bill is comparable to restaurants where quality is much more important than quantity. Here, the preference is probably for passing through; maximum profit percentage, and on to the next one. Yet the valley has no shortage of resources...
Friendly staff and a nice place. Unfortunately, the food wasn't that good and was mostly industrial. The pasta was overcooked with porcini mushrooms that were in oil, and the pasta with ragù was overcooked and had sour tomato sauce. It's fine for a coffee, but not for lunch.
The managers of the place also take care of (at least in theory) beating and maintaining the cross-country ski trail. Today the trail was in terrible conditions: in some places completely ruined (you could barely see the groove for the alternating ground), on most of the route covered with pebbles of frozen and not crushed snow, full of cracks. They didn't even beat the variant on the return trail. On the way back I stopped by the place again to point this out, because I really felt like they were making fun of me. The lady who runs it literally laughed in my face, then when I insisted she threw me out of the place. I advise the very kind tour operator to take a different attitude. Maybe she needs to take a few lessons in tourist reception from the impeccable people of Alto Adige. What a shame.
