Ordered the dark chocolate sorbet and the cranberry sorbet, both vegan I think. I don’t know what witchcraft they worked to make the dark chocolate sorbet so rich and creamy while still being vegan, but I’ll take it. The cranberry sorbet was very grainy and texturally felt more like an icy or slushy. This is gourmet ice cream and you pay the gourmet price. The torched marshmallow fluff was a nice addition. they make small batch seasonal flavors, so I did not get to try the bitter caramel. I think the best order would be the dark chocolate sorbet, and the bitter caramel in a sugar cone with the torched marshmallow fluff on top. They are generous with letting you try flavors before you buy anything.

Having worked in ice cream before (Jeni’s woot woot), I always appreciate quality small batch creameries. The young gentleman behind the counter was very helpful and courteous, helping get exactly what I like (variety…was able to split the double into four incredible flavors)!! All the flavors were FRESH and inventive. Loved the Verve, enjoyed the refreshing mint, appreciated the summertime vibes of the strawberry, and was wowed by the black tea/peach. Tue/Thu 4-6 is free upgrade from a small! Come support this excellent local business! 😊👌🙌

My favorite ice cream in Santa Cruz! Recommend this location rather than the downtown location

Love the handcrafted and unusual flavors! Waffle cones made on site. Mint chip that tastes of real mint. Lemon vanilla shake that tasted like lemon bars in a glass. And two vegan sorbet flavors for dairy free options. Super cute spot to check out!

Delicious ice cream after dinner. Not a ton of flavors but decent ones.

Very cute local ice cream store! Hand crafted delicious ice cream in great flavors. And yes there is indoor and outdoor seating! Oh wait.... samples are back! Love it!

Very unique ice cream flavors. Delicious mix of ingrdients.people ordering in front of me knew what they were doing when they asked for the toasted marshmellow topping. I watched as the girl serving ice cream lit her torch and carefully toasted the marshmellow.

What a great little spot! Their flavors rotate and the ingredients are locally sourced. I am lactose intolerant, so really appreciate they always have a couple of interesting sorbets. Great service, too.

Great ice cream - not a ton of flavors but the few they had were all great! Staff was exceptionally kind and patient with our family.

Great Ice Cream spot with some unique flavors. House made waffle cone and torches marshmallow fluff were delicious. Bitter caramel was the best caramel ice cream I've had since BiRite in SF. Verve Coffee ice cream is fantastic with a praline crunch.

Definitely not your most traditional ice cream shop, however all of the flavors offered are made with fresh, local ingredients and offer a unique taste. Plus the staff were extremely friendly and offered great insight on each of the flavors

Don't even think about it - just do it. Calories don't matter if you hike 7 miles or bike 25 before this treat. Seriously...workout to eat ice cream. There is only one place that comes close to their fresh mint chip and that is way down in LA. Very crisp flavours that is making my mouth water as I write this. My kids love the torched marshmallow dip cones.

Really enjoyed the burnt caramel. The serving size was small but that worked for me too, went here for a pre lunch pallet cleanser and it was all perfect. 4 people group all really enjoyed their flavors. If you're looking for a sugar coma, go elsewhere 🙂

Clean space, nice service, artisanal flavors. Enjoyed the fresh mint flavor, berry sorbet, and cardamom pistachio chip. Higher-end pricing for small batch/ quality ingredients. I do find the ice cream here not very creamy, it’s soft and melts very fast. I prefer a firmer ice cream.

Truly delicious but incredibly expensive ice cream. Definitely do not regret going, it’s really tasty! But be prepared! :)

I’m sorry but this ice cream is bad. It’s icy and the flavors are off. I love Jeni’s and McConnells and other unique brands. The Penny doesn’t compare. I cannot recommend this place at all.

I love the Penny ice creamery, and I didn't know they had this new location. I love the location, I HATE that they will not give out samples anymore! AND that they're ENCOURAGING people to "buy an ice cream and say that you don't like it, and exchange it for another" rather than just giving out samples! WHY would you ENCOURAGE WASTING ice cream?? Rather than just giving samples out? What's the problem with samples? It doesn't make ANY sense at all! It's a brand new tiny clean spoon - here you go here's a taste, try it so what if you have to take your dumb mask off to try it, IF that's the main concern there. STOP THE WASTE!!! Also, the fact that it's called "the penny ice creamery" and nothing there is less than $5, so the "Penny Pop" etc... may need to some name changes, because nothing cost a penny, and if something did, it would be selling off the shelves. BUT it was the ATTITUDE here that was HORRIBLE. I cannot believe that I was told to order the flavor that I want to TRY and then if I don't like it, to bring it back, tell her that I don't like it, and she'll give me a whole new cone, AND if I don't like that one either - I can just keep doing that until I get the one I want!! THAT is a HUGE WASTE. I did not get her name, but she worked Wednesday afternoon around 2:00 p.m. February 2nd 2022 - so that girl, who was working that shift - is suggesting to CUSTOMERS (because for some reason she can't give out samples, which is ridiculous) to waste as many ice cream cones as we want to, until we find the flavor we like, RATHER than giving out samples! SO I hope her boss knows that, because that is WASTING way more than samples ever could, plus cones!!? AND samples are NOT DANGEROUS in any way, so I don't know what the point is here, except for telling your employees to waste ice cream and encouraging the customers to do the same?! Man, that blew my mind! She should be fired, and that should NOT be the policy there! I REALLY HOPE it's not coming down from the top.
