DK PubLIC Astoria Reviews
For a chill local neighborhood spot, the food was surprisingly delicious. We got the chicken sandwich and the mac, both fantastic. Laid back spot but the manager made me a good strong martini since I'm not a beer fan.
Awesome neighborhood bar with great food, solid drinks and friendly staff. The building is also a gem itself. Old school tavern feel with a really nice bar and ample seating. They've also got two big beautiful tables, one inside and one outside.
Excellent food. Burger was top notch. Salad was fresh and very tasty. Mac and cheese 💯! Fish and chips were delicious, came with grilled lemon and delicious cole slaw.
Stopped by because it looked cute. Turns out, it was the perfect place to spend a leisurely Sunday morning. The vegan gluten free pumpkin spice muffin was incredible. Great matcha latte. My husband and I enjoyed it very much.
Fantastic food in a nice area, almost nothing bad to say about this place. I highly highly recommend the Mango Habanero Wings. Came two days in a row on vacation for those wings 🤤
I just had the best seafood pasta of my life. Paired with their best IPA. I was in heaven. Gnat/flies plagued the bar but I didn't even care. They just need some fly ribbons and they'll be good.
Amazing place, the food were delicious, thank you Lessie you're very kind
Our family stayed at the hotel one block away and ate dinner here every night because it was so convenient and the food was awesome! Also a big improvement over Manhattan prices. The restaurant has a great vibe and the outside seating area is cool too. Highly recommend!
The neighborhood DK Public will make everyone feel like you've always belonged there. The food is great; classic burger is a real delight, an the vegan black bean burger is no less delicious. Large selection of craft beers. But what makes this place authentic is the waiter who is dexterous, fast and kind. If you are in Queens be sure to visit it.
Was visiting from out of town and it was recommended to me by multiple locals. Dinner was amazing; Ellie took great care of us. It was a perfect dinner. I came back for drinks after dinner and the bar staff was incredible; Tiago and Emily were on point with the drinks. I'm so glad I found this hidden gem. I can't wait to come back.
My family loves a good brunch and DK PubLIC has been a great find recently. I am a huge fan of the BLT, which has fig jam! Never would have thought to put fig jam on a BLT, but now I can't see when I won't. It's so good! The coffee is really good as well. Great place to relax and enjoy a nice meal.
It is was relatively late so I ordered a salad (out of character) and I have to say, well done. Nothing overly special, but seasoned, balanced and enjoyable. 5 stars to the bartender training the waitress who's first night in the service industry it was.
Food is great. Amazing service from Gino. Edit: we stayed after Gino's shift for one more drink. They tried to charge us for 2, and they were very quick to change it back. I'm leaving the 5 star because of Gino. Just CHECK the bill if you go.
What a randomly wonderful experience @dkpublic yesterday! Back in NYC for work & decided on a last minute “burger & brews” dinner with my big bro @oldcaptaindadret. Super conveniently located 3 blocks from my hotel, warm reception on entry, cute decor/ambiance, simple menu with fair prices (including sweet potato friiiiiiies!! 😋 💙), even had a kind chat from the co-owner Marcia! Delicious eats!!! This place is a MUST!!! #DKPubLIC #LICEats #LongIslandCity #BurgersAndBrews #GambleBros
My grandfather owned this place back in the 70’s….”Bay City” was the name. The floor, bar & built in behind the bar was all from his place so I wanted to come check it out! I came here for lunch with a friend. The server/bartender Elias was excellent! Very friendly & attentive. We had buffalo wings as an appetizer… they are EXCELLENT!. My friend had the breakfast burger & loved it. I have the apple walnut salad w/chicken and it was wonderful. I definitely will be back!
This is the best bar in Long Island city to be honest. It’s so calm. The bar tenders are the nicest. The best IPA. The best food. If your looking for a clam and chill time please come here. Will always come back.
Went to DK tonight. It was St.Patrick’s Day evening. I am a local resident and went over for dinner myself alone. I know the owner Richard Madrid for a very long time. As an Irish American, I found myself alone this St. Paddy’s day. So I decided to walk around the corner to Richard’s place. I generally do not feel comfortable eating alone, but did this evening.. the Corned Beef & Irish whiskey were superb. And best of all I was introduced to 2 new fellows to our neighborhood. What a lovely evening!
Bussin chicken sandwich and burger and atmosphere. Good happy hour
A great palace to hang around when you ere in LIC. Thanks to Richard aans Marcia for their warm welcome
Burger was ok, because they make it on a flat grill at the time I went was dead, the service was very good and the Colombian girl bartending was very sweet and acomodating. I was going to order the ribeye but I order a burger and it was good but I like my burger on the charc grill. Next time I’ll order the Ribeye. But is a nice place ohhh also they have amazing cocktails! I had the Gin one and it was amazing they also have great vegetarian options.
It's the best spot serving food and drinks on this sidewalk from the 39 Ave subway station. The Christmas decorations make it feel very cozy and warm if you're there that time of year. It's a great menu and the staff is casual and can accommodate to your dietary needs.
DK offers an exceptional burger, arguably one of the finest in NYC. It's fresh and succulent. The accompanying shoestring fries were delightful. The staff, including both waiters and bartenders, are friendly and attentive. Additionally, DK is incredibly dog-friendly, which enhances the overall atmosphere. I highly recommend visiting for a burger and local beer in Long Island City.
DK PubLIC is a true hidden gem in Long Island City. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to unwind, whether you’re grabbing a drink with or without alcohol. My usual is a Heineken 0 in a tall Collins glass’s The staff is genuinely friendly and attentive, making you feel like a regular from the moment you walk in. Their black bean burger is outrageous —flavorful, hearty, and perfectly balanced. They make everything in house - all delicious, and the menu has plenty of great options for vegetarians. With its rich history and warm energy, DK PubLIC is a spot I keep coming back to—highly recommend!
We came here with our dog and enjoyed the outdoor seating. The area had a few pedestrians but was overall pretty quiet. While the service was a bit slow at the beginning the food came out quickly and was very tasty! This is a great place to order a bunch of apps and share. Also you MUST get the old bay fries!!
Sweet little hangout by our hotel. Offered indoor and outdoor seating but at the moment (winter) there was no cover for the outdoor seating. Food was delish with an average price of around $18. I got the chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and all of it was worth it. Chicken had a crispy shell with a juicy center. My friend got the chicken tenders and once again, breaded and cooked perfectly. We didn't get any drinks but they have a full bar. Server/bartender was very nice and took great care of us!
Looks like your pretty standard bar, with a fairly standard bar menu. However, the food was incredible. Had the black bean burger, and was very satisfied. Also, probably some of the best shoestring fries I've had in awhile. The drink menu was also wonderful, the elderflower Bessy drink was delicious (and potent).
Went to DK PubLIC today for brunch with an old friend and had a great time. Our server, B, was quirky, funny, and super kind — made the whole experience even better. I had the chicken sandwich, which was enormous and seriously juicy. Totally hit the spot. My friend got the fish and chips and couldn't stop talking about how good it was. Great vibes, awesome food, and even better service. Would definitely go back.
Amazing burger, one of the best in nyc. It’s juicy and fresh. Loved the shoestring fries that comes with the burger. Waiters and bartenders are friendly and attentive. Also DK is super dog friendly which really added to the ambience. Highly recommend for a burger and local beer in Long Island City.
Much needed addition to our neighborhood. Family owned establishment serving a variety of beers on tap plus whatever delicious meal fills you up till your hearts content. I enjoy the burgers and chicken sandwiches. The fries are thin-n-crispy. Stopping by for lunch when you forget to bring a meal to work is ideal!
We have been here the 25th of December, in the afternoon. It has been our quiet spot after a day visiting NY and before going to the airport. There was nobody but us and a couple of others. The waiter has been very kind and welcoming. I took a Guinness and my wife a cocktail. Both very good. The forniture is very peculiar and totally in line with the mood of the pub. A great place that will stay in our memories and hearts ♥️. Thanks
If you’re in the area give this place a try. Fun Tuesday night trivia. Excellent DK Burger. The DK lager is also very good. Great atmosphere, friendly people. Overall, everyone I was with enjoyed their food.
Had flight cancelled. Staying at the hotel LIC Manhattan and this is right across the street! Great pub! Great atmosphere! Very clean, smells great inside! TVs with sports! Food was amazing and fairly priced! Especially for NYC! If you’re staying in the area check the out!
I want to leave my opinion. I was there in December, Christmas week, and with other trips I was delayed in leaving my rating, which I must say is FANTASTIC. The food is 10 out of 10, the service is EXCELLENT, and the atmosphere is great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a drink. I don't remember his name, but I have a picture with the bar manager, a really cool Colombian guy.
Nice spot ,comfortable feel. Classy set up. Food was really good. I had mussels in wine sauce, and the salmon burger, I really enjoyed my food. My BF felt it needed a lil more seasoning, but i was just fine with it My BF had blackened salmon picatta with mash potatoes and veggies. The display was Gorgeous I mean a fine dining set up on his plate, with GREAT FLAVOR!!! MY SPICY GAUVA PASSIONFRUIT MARGARITA WAS SOOOO GOOD AS WELL. BARTENDER I THINK HIS NAME WAS FERNANDO AND HE WAS AWESOME!!! If im ever in LIC again. Ill definitely go back!
Finally made my way here and was not disappointed. Great service, delicious food, and lots of beer options on draft. Fish and chips were delicious. Fish was very airy, crunchy, and moist. The Asian style wings were killer. They use flats so you get a hefty portion. Also had the DK burger and it was very satisfying. Didn't fall apart on me so the bun and patty portions were just right. That apple wood smoked bacon was a tasty crunch. Going back again for sure.
Perfect breakfast/brunch spot in LIC! We were visiting the area with 2 adults, 1 teenager and 1 toddler and they had something for everyone! We had the chicken n’ waffles, breakfast burrito, pancakes with fruit, and the big Alice breakfast - everything was great 🙂 they even had mimosas 🍾!!! This was a very kid-friendly environment, at least for breakfast time! We will be back when we come back to the area!
Stopped in for dinner and loved it. The burger and fries were delicious, and the penna a la vodka with chicken was a pleasant surprise so flavorful. Service was excellent, with a super attentive and friendly server. Returned for breakfast the next day and highly recommend the pancakes and chicken & waffles. Both were really good! Recommend stopping by if you're staying in the area.
We did walk-in on a Monday (holiday) evening and it was not too busy. The service was decently fast and the food was really delicious! Everything we had was great. I highly recommend the beet salad. Also, the “public nuisance” sauce for the chicken wings really is quite spicy, so try if you’re looking for a burn! This is a great neighbourhood spot that we will definitely be coming back to often!
Everytime we visit NYC we make sure and have a few meals at DK Public. The food is consistently great and, the staff have always been friendly even though we're obviously not native New Yorkers - that kindness is very much appreciated. I highly recommend anyone staying at nearby hotels give them a try.
After a frustrating experience with a very simple bar order of 7 and 7,. 7up and Seagrams 7, my wife got a nice whiskey and Sprite. It was smooth but 7 is so much better. I asked for a blended Margarita that threw the waitress and bartender for a loop. I should have asked for a frozen Margarita , it turns out. No salt offered and it wasn't very good. On the other hand, the grilled salmon and NY Steak that was more like a Bone-in Ribeye that was cooked to perfection! Both were very generous portions of meat and potatoes. Just wish we could have been given more of the yummy carrots. Had the chocolate lava cake with ice cream. Very tasty but again, all we got was a tiny Tablespoon's worth of ice cream. For $14 you would think a bit more ice cream should have been provided. All in all they turned a questionable start into a nice experience. Price was on the steep side. $13 for a well drink and eh Margarita for Happy Hour? Wow! Wonder what the price would be at normal time? With tip we spent $144 for the two of us. If I go back I would probably stick with a burger and ice tea but quality of the food was the shining star and both staff members were great
Good food + good tvs - one complaint: slightly annoyed that I got hit with two extra sauce charges w/o notice (one for bbq & one for a side of hotter buffalo sauce suggested by the waitress). Literally $2 extra on a $225+ tab that sullied the experience from 5 to 4 stars
Very attentive service, food is normal bar fare prepared nicely. The value here is a quiet neighborhood atmosphere and easy, relaxing experience.
The food was good! The service was meh! They might’ve been short staff, but they weren’t attentive at all. I would go back since I enjoyed my meal. I would recommend the salmon burger, it was fresh and tasty.
Update: still a little overpriced for the neighborhood but the food is night and day! They have an almost entirely new menu and the execution is consistently good - though service can be a bit slow they do communicate when the kitchen is running behind which is always appreciated. The veggie burger and fried mushroom sandwich are highlights! Still not my top choice for eggs in the area but solid. I assume they replaced the kitchen staff entirely because it’s now solidly worth a visit if you’re local. Old review: Made a Greek omelette with lettuce mix instead of spinach and have refilled cholula bottles with franks red hot. More than $50 for two brunch entrees and coffee (no alcohol). Will not be back.
Overall, a very good experience. The atmosphere of the bar effectively mixes old-school and modern and the dark wood sets a nice tone. We had a whole crew with us for this dinner and some of what we had was excellent, pretty much everything was at least “very good”. The buffalo chicken wings were an excellent appetizer (big, juicy, flavorful wings) and the fried calamari was also very much on point. The salmon burger was definitely good, if bit spectacular, but what was spectacular were the fries. Skinny fries fried just right, couldn’t stop eating them. A couple of minor glitches with the service, one person’s entree arrived late but, overall, friendly and solid. Nice, pretty low-key place to check out if you are in the LIC area.
Always amazed when visiting LIC and all the changes it's gone through. Great neighborhood, nice small bar. Within walking distance from hotel, train and coffee shop. Ordered teaser salad and a hurricane. Friends order burgers and fries, wine and old fashions. No complaints. Have seen each other in years. Kids are grown. Good times
DK Public, a local hangout, has been open for a few months, since around Oct. Formerly in this location was another well-known bar, Dutch Kills Centraal, which closed during the middle of the pandemic. The new owners made some cosmetic changes in the interior, but the space basically looks the same. Inside is a gorgeous, kind of old school but upscale vibe. You’ll find the original mosaic tile floors, pendant light fixtures, hand painted murals and lots of wood furniture. The indoor space is large, and they also have some outdoor seating. As for the menu, it’s limited right now. They have some lunch offerings and pastries throughout the day. When I visited last week, the owner told me they just got their liquor license and hope to be offering dinner menu soon. After chatting with him, I ended up just getting a cup of Americano and a muffin. The coffee was great; strong and dark. Not sure if they bake the muffin in-house but it sure hit the spot. It was nice and moist and filling. I’ll have to plan another visit to try out their food. This under-radar hangout is ideal for those looking for a nice quiet place to work, grab drinks and meet locals.
Passed by for late brunch (3P) on a Sunday afternoon....we were the only ones there, and it was spotless! Super cute neighborhood bar that serves food. Friendly server, and of course since no one else was there our food was fast and delicious. We went for the DK Brunch Burger with side of sweet potato fries plus side of ranch and the Chicken Sandwich with Old Bay Fries. Both WTH emerges and sandwich were on really soft buns, not too filling, and delicious! The burger was cooked to my preference of medium and the chicken had a yummy flavor and crunch to it. Mimosa was nice to start after a busy afternoon and after that food coma, had some ice coffee. Love the old tiles, flowers and vibes here.
The food was good, I ordered food (a burger and a margarita) and was mostly there to kill time since I left my car at the mechanic. I didn't ask for the check yet, and the bartender just handed it to me. I would understand if the place was crowded, but it was just me and 2 other customers in the whole restaurant. I was there only 45 minutes. FYI, they charge customers to charge their phone, I had my own portable, which I guess they wanted me out because of that since they couldn't make money off of me anymore.
Food is good (burger & fries - good although I received a burger with it that had bacon on it that I did NOT order, fish & chips - good, mac & cheese - mid, calamari - pretty good, Thai chili wings - really good) but service is TRASH. I ordered pickup and came in with my husband and our daughter. We stood inside for awhile and NO ONE aka the 3 men behind the bar came to assist us. Two other patrons came in through the other door and were about to be assisted before anyone even acknowledged us (despite them all looking at us multiple(!) times). I went up to the bar to state I had a pickup order and they pointed to a table and said it's there. Customer service is TRASH but the food is overall good and portions are really good. No napkins or utensils were included either.
They advertise a rib eye steak/fritz for $42:00. It's really a menu marked prime sirloin which is no way a prime cut steak, grisol and mealy. Not worth the $42 bucks. Their pino grigo wine brand was excellent
I was looking for a place to have brunch. My usual spot was closed for renovations even though it did not state that on yelp. I searched the area I found DK was not too far away. When I arrived I was non too pleased to see that it was a bar, I don't know why that bothered me but it did, don't get me wrong I do drink. I went in any way and to my surprise it was lovely inside! The place was clean and just had a great chill vibe. There was music playing in the background, vintage Rock, R&B & Soul music very low so it won't interfere with anyone having a conversation. The wait staff was great, the brunch menu had a very extensive list. I loved the cloth napkins. I ordered the chicken and waffles, now it was not busy at all, maybe 5 patrons already there, so my order did take longer than I thought it should take. When my food arrived it looked amazing! The main problem was the lack of any seasoning on the crispy chicken, which, was not crispy. In terms of texture, everything felt the same, the waffle was pillowy soft on the inside with a little crunch on the outside, the chicken however was bland, bland, bland. I could see something that looked like seasoning on the chicken maybe black pepper, but no salt, I should have asked for table salt. Would I go back there again for brunch, yes. I would give them another try, I just won't order the chicken and waffles.
Mixed experience. Good pub atmosphere but service was ambiguous, they forgot or misunderstood our order of apetizers. Which turned out good for us since both fish and chips and hamburger were huge. Still. The main issue was the fried fish which was undercooked, probably frozen, smelly and the texture dry and chewy.
Ordered chicken and waffles and although the chicken was incredibly juicy the breading greatly lacked in flavor and the waffles themselves were nothing special. My friend order the fish and chips and had a similar experience. The fish was juicy and flakey but the breading again greatly lacked in flavor. Atmosphere was nice, very. I really wanted to like this place but the food just had a couple of misses
Didn’t mention a charge for additional flavors to margaritas. They also charge for using card which is not mentioned when you get the bill. Service was incredibly slow despite being slow at the time of service. The food was delicious. The drinks were fine. But the additional charges for using a credit card and the nature of getting drinks was truly abysmal. Atmosphere was spot on but they need training and need to understand their product.
They served me rotten mussels. Chef could’ve easily made an extra and tasted it before they sent the dish out. The bartender and food runner were very apologetic but when I spoke with the manager/owner, he acted like he didn’t care one bit.
The food is terribly greasy and stale, with no vegetables. The service is abysmal—they're lingering, rude, and surly, yet they demand large tips. They don't use polite greetings or goodbyes. The atmosphere is oppressive, putting people in a sad mood and damaging their attitude toward the world and life.
Brunch food was good, although it was small portions for the price (see photos, those dishes were nearly $20). The food by itself was fine, but...the service was atrocious. There seemed to be one server for the entire restaurant for Saturday brunch hours. While I wanted to sympathize, there were very few diners - my friends and I were one of 3 small tables. My friends and I also noticed a very overt attitude. Any time a guest made a request, we observed her roll her eyes/make a face. One of my friends asked for a coffee, and she said, "are you sure, it will take a long time." My friend thought about it for a second and was about to say never mind, but then asked, "how long do you think it will take?" to which the server replied, "5 minutes. It seemed like she wanted to make up an excuse to avoid making a coffee, which was strange. (It turned out to take more than 20 minutes). I would not recommend based on the experience my friends and I had today.
If there is anything close to a negative star I will give it. I have been to this place once and the service was great I won’t lie. But today my husband decided to go just for a quick take out and this Indian looking guy kicked him out, the reason why is unknown. Proceeding to saying he will call the cop and when my husband said he will wait till the cop gets there he went ahead and came up with the lie that my husband said he will beat him up. It’s giving racism. If people have issue with anyone race they shouldn’t be working at all.
Have been here number of time but after last visit on Wednesday September 3rd will never be back. Watch out for your credit card bill overcharge. Once you pay they will adjust credit card receipt to overcharge you $100.
This place was awful. I asked for a coke today with absolutely no one in the restaurant and the server didn’t bring after 20 minutes I just said never mind and he still proceeded to try and charge us and pull a fast one. They didn’t have Bavarian Pretzels or a handful of alcoholic drinks. Awful service and really inexcusable with no one in there on a Saturday before peak lunch time. Maybe there was a reason for that…
I basically had to ask for a menu, for a 2nd drink, appetizer and main came at the same time ??? I had to ask for ck. After 20 mins of being done. And had to flag someone to pay for my order which was about 65.00. I have given this place many opportunities but as a neighborhood bar not sure I would come back. It’s a shame !!
On October 24th at 9:20 PM, my boyfriend and I had two mules. We paid $21.78. We have the receipt. However, the bar charged us $21.78 twice. We also contacted our bank. There are two different authorization numbers: Authorization 1 no: 425997 and Authorization 2 no: 426035. We want a refund of the overcharged $21.78. We tried to reach the Bar Manager, Antonio, but he didn't respond. We're staying at the Nesva Hotel and came to the neighborhood bar because we trust him. You shouldn't victimize us like this.
They refused to let a gentleman use the restroom, saying it was for customers only. I politely mentioned that I could become a potential customer, but they insisted I had to buy something first, even just a soda, before I could go. It was handled very rudely. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place. I truly hope that one day someone leaves them a “number 1” right on their fancy front door instead of in their exclusive restroom.
I stopped by this bar on a whim on a Monday evening. Despite living in the neighborhood for 7 years, it was my first visit. I sat at the bar and was met with silence… the bartender approached me and stared until I spoke, rather than greeting me. I ordered a drink and 2 entrees just to pick at. The food was decent, but the service was not. At a certain point, I felt closely watched, as though there was concern I wouldn’t pay my tab. To ease the discomfort, I asked for the check early. When I handed over my card, 3 employees gathered around the register, appearing to anticipate a declined transaction. Once he swiped my card and it cleared, they dispersed with noticeably smug expressions, as if a bet had been lost. All over a tab that was under $100 might I add. Based on this experience, I would hesitate to recommend this establishment to women of color dining alone. It’s truly disappointing.
