So happy my wife found this place! We eat sushi at least 3x a week so we know what good sushi is and are both a tad picky. This place did not disappoint at all! Waitress was very nice and attentive. We came here on a Tuesday night! Everything from the crispy rice to the toro was delicious! We tried quite a few rolls and hand rolls and everything was great! Def give this place a try

Edit: 12/06/25 I was informed this upcoming week will be Sake Kawa’s last… so if you have them on your go to list, here’s your last chance. Wishing Alex all the best! Omakase at Sake Kawa is a must. Alex is always personable and provides the highest quality fish and ingredients. My family and I have been frequenting here for at least 3 years. The friends that we bring for the first time is always pleased after the meal. MUST get the Kumamoto oysters to start before the omakase. Thank me later :) Edit 02/23/2024 I've added more photos from my most recent omakase. Please note, uni is one of my favs, so some pieces will have uni on top which would be additional to the $90 Omakase option. Me and Alex are pretty well acquainted now since I go there somewhat frequently. Quality has not changed since my last review. Just leaving this review since I took more photos and the photos speak for itself.

One of the most slept on Omakase experiences in the 5 boroughs. I’ve eaten dinner here so many times and never tried the omakase til last night. High quality fish. Amazing price. Just a little hole in the wall sushi spot. Don’t let the appearance shake you. Take your loved ones here!!!

Delightful experience dining with Chef Alex and his omakase. Just walked by and stumbled upon this establishment while I was waiting for my car to be washed nearby. I’m very glad I did - the fish was remarkably fresh and Chef Alex seemed very keen on understanding which pieces I enjoyed most. Try their wagyu toro hand roll. The negitoro is marinated extremely well and the wagyu (when available) is well marbled and tasty. The aburi engawa was also delightful. An underrated GEM definitely worth a try for those nearby!

We love sake kawa! Chef Alex takes such care and makes sure each bite it to perfection. The omakase is so reasonably priced and each piece is fantastic. I could keep going on and on about how good it is!

A hidden gem in Long Island City! Sake Kawa is a rare find — an omakase experience that truly delivers both quality and value. The fish is incredibly fresh, the presentation is stunning, and each course feels thoughtfully curated. It’s clear the chef takes pride in every detail. The space itself is cozy and intimate, making it perfect for a special night out without the Manhattan price tag. Definitely one of LIC’s best-kept secrets. Don’t sleep on this spot — it’s absolutely worth money!

Can not speak highly enough of Chef Alex and his omakase curation. He walked us through every course and meticulously prepped with love and care - could not decide a favorite as every single course was amazing . We cannot wait to return!

Best omakase in the states!!! You can get the same quality omakase as the $$$$ ones in manhattan for a tiny fraction of the price. From SF, LA to NYC, haven’t found any omakase that beats the quality per price here! The pictures are from the premium 14-piece omakase set. :)

This hidden spot in Astoria deserves so much more recognition for its omakase. Not only is Chef Alex so thoughtful in his preparation, but the fish is so fresh and delicious. Chef Alex is so passionate about each piece he serves, and has created such a wonderfully unique menu. The price point is so fair for the quality and service. I could not recommend this place more, I will definitely be back.

Chef Alex was awesome!!!! We had the omakase and everything was absolutely delicious. Best sushi I’ve ever had. Loved the toro cavier, hotate, salmon belly, Anago, Hokkaido uni, just all of it. Cannot wait to go back!

There's so many places in ditmars but I'm so happy we settled on this sushi spot. They have so much more than just sushi but the sushi was really good!! It also looks very nice inside and was easy to get to from the train station. The waiters were nice and friendly, and it wasn't too expensive for a sushi spot which was very good. This is one of our favorite sushi spots now in the local area.

I never thought I would find such good omakase so close to home. My wife and I got the omakase for 2, a plum wine and all the specials on the board. Literally there was nothing that chef Alex made that was not exceptional and so we racked a bill of 500 with no regrets. The eel as well as the toro was both our favorites. Never had I had marinaded roe which was also very delicious. We also really enjoyed the red bean and green tea ice cream. It was really nice celebrating with my wife’s her school accomplishments here. We went at like 330-4ish which was before rush hours so had an intimate private like experience. I highly recommend and will be returning. Thank you.

One of the BEST omakase I’ve ever had. We did the 16 piece and a soft shell crab special. Sushi was so fresh and delicious. Was really surprised as the restaurant is very unassuming. Recommend sitting at the bar for omakase :) Thank you for the experience chef Eric!

It’s BYOB and has Omakase options — best of both worlds. Seriously, this place is such a neighborhood gem and doesn’t get enough credit for the quality and creativity along with a very reasonable price point. Chef Alex is dedicated to his craft and you’ll have such a wonderful experience if you sit at the bar and see him work his magic. I usually get the omakase because you get to try so many different dishes—all melt in your mouth. It’s hard to choose a fav, but three amigos is up there. When they have ankimo (monkfish liver aka the foie gras of the sea) or the fresh oysters, I can’t resist. Acquired tastes for sure, but when the craving hits I know where to go. I’ve also ordered just rolls and chirashi bowls, also delicious and solid. It’s great bringing friends here to try out more of the menu as well as enjoy some peaceful solo dining. Please support local and independent restaurants like this that are trying to bring something unique and special to the neighborhood.

We did the 14 omakase here yesterday and let me tell you IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The birthday boy enjoyed it as much as I did. If you are considering omakase you must try this place. The price is pretty cheap compare to the other places. The chef and the server were both nice and the place is clean. Also they were so thoughtful to bring out a candle for the dessert for the birthday boy to make a wish and they played happy birthday song for him. Thank you for making it special :)

My girlfriend and I dropped by on a hot spring day (90+) and they turned on the AC for us. Very good customer service. Staff very friendly and attentive. We got the omakase regular and the mini omakase with an ikamaru (grilled squid) starter. The fish was fresh and plating was clean. Server was knowledgeable. For the price, I have had few that was as worth an experience as this. Would highly recommend.

This place is amazing!!! I've eaten a ton of high quality sushi, from Michelin star 10-seaters to the best of the best in Manhattan & abroad. It's my favorite cuisine, and if stranded on a desert island - it'd be my go to choice. So believe me when I say this place is a MUST TRY! I actually didn't want to praise it too much since it'll mean longer wait times for me, but this place deserves it. If you're looking for the best Omakase in Astoria and at a super affordable price, this is the place! [A diverse and unique 10 piece set for $50!] Alex (the head chef) - is a humble, culinary genius (but he doesn't know it yet). His skills lay in his unique ability to maintain a high degree of cultural authenticity, traditional techniques, and reliance on high quality fish. But then he takes it to a new level by adding just the right amount of style & flare. Thus, he doesn't over power the fish (like with flashy sauces or other additives that other places do), but creates a unique and well-paired blend that highlights and elevates the flavor of the fish. (It's really cool, and you'll get what I mean when you try it!) I've been there several times and will probably have them cater my birthday. In fact, it was so good, it prompted me to finally write a real Yelp review (finally got me)! Lastly, it's BYOB (for now)... so if you want a fine sake to pair with, there is a great liquor store on 36th Ave & 31st street [across from the KeyFood] that has a copious supply of good sake and other spirits. So let the good times roll! Probably head there tonight for that 10 piece omakase.

Amazing new sushi restaurant that just opened up on 36 Ave. We started with a half dozen Kumamoto oysters and ordered the sushi Omakase, which was not only exquisite but an absolute steal at only $50. Chef Alex is both charming and diligent as he meticulously prepares each piece by hand. The Omakase was the perfect balance between traditional flavors and creative flavors unique to Chef Alex’s own inventions. Each piece was an explosion of flavors, generously cut slices of fresh fish on delicious sushi rice. Oh and did I mention Sake Kawa is BYOB (for now until they get their liquor license) so bring along your favorite bottle of sake for an absolutely memorable meal!

Came here for Omakase. Didn’t disappoint. Delicious and fresh sushi. Price is pretty reasonable. Service was great. BYOB. Didn’t like that they don’t accept discover or Amex. Didn’t like that they tried to upsell.
