Buenos Aires Café Austin Reviews
We came on a Tuesday night and loved that it wasn’t too busy. The relaxed atmosphere made conversation easy. Our server, Angelina, was sweet and attentive, changing our grills often and checking in at the right moments. The meat quality was great and we’d definitely come back! There is ample street parking and a parking garage behind the building that I believe you can validate at the restaurant.
The food was amazing! Very busy I would advise to make a reservation! The fryer was broken 😞 so we didn’t get a chance to eat anything fried. Definitely worth you trying.
Came to Gyu-Kaku yesterday and had a great time. Our server Bach was very attentive the whole meal and always greeted us with big smiles. We ordered the Ultimate set and honestly loved everything we picked. The meat is marinated really well and there are so many options, so it’s easy to find favorites.
Everything tasted fantastic! The prices might seem high at first but we got so much food we had leftovers for 2 more meals. Would love to come back!
My wife and I come here all the time for the fried cheese wantons and the steam dumplings (harami skirt steak being or close second favorite). Ashley was a great server and very attentive. We’ll be back soon for another pitcher of beer and some yummy food. Thanks!
Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ offers an exceptional dining experience with its interactive BBQ style. The meats are fresh, tender, and flavorful, and grilling them at the table adds an engaging touch. The dipping sauces are rich, enhancing the flavor of the grilled dishes. Service is attentive, and the atmosphere is lively and fun, making it perfect for group dining. A bit on the pricier side, but worth the experience.
I visited last Saturday. I had never been to a Japanese barbecue restaurant before. I was nervous because I was dining alone. None of my friends wanted to come with me unfortunately. I’m very happy I chose to dine alone. The waiter was so friendly and educated me on how everything worked. Explained the entire menu to me front and back. The food was amazing as well. I definitely will be back and will be bringing family!
I usually eat in but today I just grabbed lunch. Jasmine took my order and handed it to me. She’s always great. My first visit was a year ago and she still has the best demeanor. The atmosphere was quiet and welcoming… good vibes only 😎 Today, I had the Spicy Beef ramen. It’s so flavorful and not too spicy actually. The ramen comes with a salad for $14.
Tin, our server, was great! It was my first time trying out Japanese bbq, but he explained the menu well and we got to try out the meat lovers! :D
Truly delicious and a great choice for Restaurant Weeks in Austin!!! The service was fantastic and the food speaks volumes for itself. Highly recommend!
Great first experience at Gyu-Kaku! Our server was fantastic Gen was super friendly, explained how everything worked, and made me feel really welcome since it was my first time there. She checked in at the perfect times and made the whole meal feel easy and fun. Definitely made the experience better!
Angelina handled our party of 20 flawlessly. She was organized, fast, calm under pressure, and somehow still had everyone laughing. Service was smooth, orders were perfect, and the energy at our table was great the entire time. We were even talking with other tables and random guests around us, and multiple random people kept saying how much they loved her too. Our whole group can’t wait to come back and is already planning to bring more friends and family just to sit with her again.
Oh where do I start!!! First of all Genevieve was outstanding she explained each and every menu in detail and we went with every one of her suggestions and we were not disappointed! Angelina also helped us because we kept getting them confused! Angelina was hilarious she had us smiling the whole time along with genevieve! Beautiful girls!!! Gyu kaku you did an amazing job hiring these two girls! You best treat them well! We 1000% will be returning for the food but also very much so for the awesome vibes these two girls brought in to our atmosphere. Definitely our new Friday spot. ASK FOR GENEVIEVE OR ANGELINA WHEN YOU COME HERE YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!!!!
Perfect date night spot! We came in and Bach quickly sat us down at our table and was really accommodating and made sure we ordered our food and got it in a timely manner. Gen took over our table and ensured we were taken care of for the remainder of the time. We will be back again.
Genevieve was an excellent waiter and played a big role in making our experience so enjoyable. She was friendly, attentive, and professional, creating a relaxed atmosphere right away. She knew the menu well and gave great recommendations, and everything she suggested turned out to be just right. What really stood out was how she went above and beyond in small but meaningful ways—checking in at the perfect times, making sure everything was exactly how we wanted it, and handling every detail smoothly without making it feel forced or overdone. She struck a great balance between being helpful and giving us space, which made the whole meal feel effortless. Thanks to Genevieve, the service felt thoughtful and well cared for, and she definitely made the experience better than expected.
We had such a great experience here. Our server Angelina made the night even better. She was friendly, attentive, and really knew the menu. She explained how everything worked, and gave excellent recommendations. She made the whole experience feel easy and fun, especially for our first time doing Japanese BBQ. The food was amazing, but her service is what really stood out, that’s gonna make us come back. Highly recommend that you go. Ask for Angelina🩷
Gen and Bach waited our table and were great hosts! It was our first time and Gen went through all of our options and made recommendations based off of our tastes and expectations. They were both incredibly helpful and attentive despite how busy the restaurant was. We definitely recommend and plan to return in the future!
Everything about this place is absolutely amazing. The service was phenomenal, the food was absolutely incredible and the atmosphere is so cozy and comfortable. And OMG their chimichurri sauce was the bomb!!! I cannot wait to go back.
This was our first time at Buenos Aires Café, and it did NOT disappoint. We let our server know and she gave us some excellent recommendations. So, when I was having trouble deciding between the gnocchi and the Shepherd’s Pie, she explained the differences. She highlighted the gnocchi as being adventurously flavorful and the Shepherd’s Pie as being more of a “comfort food” type of vibe. I went with the gnocchi and it was very flavorful. It also wasn’t too filling, so that allowed us to get dessert. The Quatros Leches was phenomenal! We loved the whole vibe of the place, and our server was very attentive and accurate in her recommendations. Even though we don’t get to go to Austin very much, we’ll be sure that Buenos Aires Café is a stop we make.
This was our first time visiting, and everything exceeded expectations. We tried the verdura empanada, cebola & queso empanada, and the beef empanada with chimichurri salsa—each one brought a completely different, exciting flavor profile. The fillings were rich and satisfying, with perfectly baked pastry shells that added just the right crunch. The dark & spicy crème brûlée was the perfect finale—bold, slightly unexpected, and incredibly delicious. The unique flavor combinations kept our palates intrigued from start to finish. A must-try spot if you’re into flavor-forward dishes and crave something a little different. We’ll definitely be back!
I don't know how this isn't on the 30 best list in Austin, I would place it top 10 based on my small 4 day sampleling and a better experience than 3 of the places that were on that list. This place wowed me the most. Everything was delicious, and I do mean everything. I had the empanadas and the chorizo for appetizers. A simple steak for the main course, Alfajores, for desert. The sandwich, which was made with the loin, it was crazy good, and I really wish I had it instead of the steak. The star of the dessert was the lemon meringue mini pie. The kurd it was sour and delicious, but both desserts were good in their own way. The Alfajores was sandy like a moon pie but rich with Carmel like center. I requested a drip coffee to finish it with my lunch and was satisfied. Definitely would be a regular rotation if I lived here.
Food was very nice. We had lunch and the empanadas and Shepherds pie were absolutely delicious. The steak was too well done but still very tender and juicy. Their Chimichurri is amazing and I love that they don’t use cilantro. Definitely try the cocktails, iced Matte and leave some room for their incredible crème brûlée. Service was very friendly and attentive.
My coworkers and I came to Buenos Aires Cafe for a weekday lunch. It was a big hit! The four of us split the Argentinian Wheel Sausage. The flavor of the sausage was great. The chimichurri served with the bread was phenomenal. It really had a strong but tasty flavor. I had the spicy beef and lentil stew empanadas, both of which were delicious. The crust was flaky and buttery. The filling had a good level of spice and was perfectly warm. My coworkers had the milanesa sandwich, bratwurst sandwich, and soup of the day. They all enjoyed their meals as well. I look forward to returning to BAC for dinner soon.

The food was very good, we had olives, bread service to start. It was just enough to start because we focus on our main course. The pollo al horn was delicious, especially the creaminess in the polenta. The wilted spinach was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Portions were spot on. My partner had the beef tenderloin, it was cooked perfectly medium rare but he preferred the taste of my polenta to his carrots. Though the food was good and well priced, the loud room detracted from the experience. It’s a small dining room with small tables, so sitting side by-side is impossible (but that’s fair). The music was loud, and this made other parties around us amp up their conversations. We struggled to hear each other from across our table because we could hear every detail of everyone else’s conversation on either side of us and behind us. That’s the only reason why it will be a long time before we return.

I’ve been to Gyu-Kaku in Dallas and Denver and have always loved the experience, so I was excited to try the Austin location. The food was excellent. Fresh, well-marinated, and tender cuts of meat. We especially like the hanger steak. We ordered the 90-minute Ultimate all-you-can-eat. Unfortunately, our server disappeared for long stretches, including about 40 minutes toward the end — no check-ins and no check brought until we flagged someone down. Still a fan of Gyu-Kaku overall, but hoping the Austin location improves service to match the food.
The service was very good and also the atmosphere. Unfortunately our meat didn't arrive in the right doneness. 3 of them, the WD was red, the M and MR was too much cooked. They was very very very very nice, they took it very sincerely. And they replace everything, but it still wasn't the right doneness. Despite the amazing staff, I'm giving 3 stars because I paid a high price for dishes that just weren't worth it.
Absolutely love this place but I feel like the food was missing seasoning …we had the mini lomito steak sandwich on the Happy Hour menu, which was excellent. Also, the caipirinha and the Mojito were delicious. The three empanadas trio were good but left to be desired (missing spice & flavor depth)… And then we had the spiral sausage and the roasted carrots, I love the roasted carrots, but also missing flavor spice taste, and the sausage ditto.
We ate here for the first time today and, unfortunately, didn’t get the wow factor we had hoped for. The restaurant was fairly empty, which we appreciated since we were hungry — but the service fell flat. Our server wasn’t very engaging or helpful, even when we asked for guidance or recommendations. The interaction felt very transactional. We ordered the parrillada (around $70 and does not include any sides) along with three separate sides — all of which were delicious. We had been torn between ordering the parrillada or two individual plates (the entraña and churrasquito), so we asked the server which would offer more protein. He said the parrillada included “all the meats,” but that wasn’t quite accurate — it came with morcilla, two types of sausage, and small portions of churrasquito and grilled chicken. While it tasted good, we left feeling the individual plates might have been a better value and experience overall. As for dessert, we tried the cuatro leches. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to its name — the cake was a bit dry despite sitting in a pool of milk. It felt like something was missing. What stood out most was watching the experience of another table nearby who was also visiting for the first time. Their server took time to explain the menu, made them feel welcomed, and elevated the whole dining vibe with personality and care. We couldn’t help but wish we had gotten that level of service as well.

We've always enjoyed eating here. But this place looks like a dump. If it looks bad on the outside, I don't even want to know what the kitchen looks like. We came in about 5:00. We waited 10 minutes for a host to even come to the stand. And then it was another 10 minutes before somebody even came to the table. Countless tables with food on them but nobody's sitting at them.
Barely received serviced when seated at bar and had to ask for cutlery and water. Empanadas with chimichurri were very good. 27$ for unseasoned chicken ‘main’ that tasted like it was just boiled no thanks, no sauces even when asked. Had to order seasoned food from somewhere else afterwards to get rid of the aftertaste.
Made a reservation for 10:30 on their website but after realizing how close this was to their closing time, I called to verify that it was 100% okay for me to come at this time and was told it was …

I usually try to be understanding when restaurants are busy, but unfortunately we had a very disappointing experience at Gyu-Kaku. During our visit, our server Almeda completely ignored our table for most of the time. We waited a long time just to get basic service, and eventually had to ask other servers for help with our food and requests. It felt like our table was simply forgotten. I do want to mention that the host was very nice and tried to help when we asked. I understand the restaurant was busy, and the host did what they could to assist us, which I appreciated. However, the service from our assigned server really affected the experience. Being ignored for most of the meal made the visit frustrating, and it shouldn’t be necessary for guests to chase down other staff just to get service. I hope management looks into this so future guests have a better experience.
