Cosmic Saltillo Austin Reviews
We came on a Tuesday night and loved that it wasn’t too busy. The relaxed atmosphere made conversation easy. Our server, Angelina, was sweet and attentive, changing our grills often and checking in at the right moments. The meat quality was great and we’d definitely come back! There is ample street parking and a parking garage behind the building that I believe you can validate at the restaurant.
The food was amazing! Very busy I would advise to make a reservation! The fryer was broken 😞 so we didn’t get a chance to eat anything fried. Definitely worth you trying.
Came to Gyu-Kaku yesterday and had a great time. Our server Bach was very attentive the whole meal and always greeted us with big smiles. We ordered the Ultimate set and honestly loved everything we picked. The meat is marinated really well and there are so many options, so it’s easy to find favorites.
Everything tasted fantastic! The prices might seem high at first but we got so much food we had leftovers for 2 more meals. Would love to come back!
My wife and I come here all the time for the fried cheese wantons and the steam dumplings (harami skirt steak being or close second favorite). Ashley was a great server and very attentive. We’ll be back soon for another pitcher of beer and some yummy food. Thanks!
Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ offers an exceptional dining experience with its interactive BBQ style. The meats are fresh, tender, and flavorful, and grilling them at the table adds an engaging touch. The dipping sauces are rich, enhancing the flavor of the grilled dishes. Service is attentive, and the atmosphere is lively and fun, making it perfect for group dining. A bit on the pricier side, but worth the experience.
I visited last Saturday. I had never been to a Japanese barbecue restaurant before. I was nervous because I was dining alone. None of my friends wanted to come with me unfortunately. I’m very happy I chose to dine alone. The waiter was so friendly and educated me on how everything worked. Explained the entire menu to me front and back. The food was amazing as well. I definitely will be back and will be bringing family!
I usually eat in but today I just grabbed lunch. Jasmine took my order and handed it to me. She’s always great. My first visit was a year ago and she still has the best demeanor. The atmosphere was quiet and welcoming… good vibes only 😎 Today, I had the Spicy Beef ramen. It’s so flavorful and not too spicy actually. The ramen comes with a salad for $14.
Tin, our server, was great! It was my first time trying out Japanese bbq, but he explained the menu well and we got to try out the meat lovers! :D
Truly delicious and a great choice for Restaurant Weeks in Austin!!! The service was fantastic and the food speaks volumes for itself. Highly recommend!
Genevieve was an excellent waiter and played a big role in making our experience so enjoyable. She was friendly, attentive, and professional, creating a relaxed atmosphere right away. She knew the menu well and gave great recommendations, and everything she suggested turned out to be just right. What really stood out was how she went above and beyond in small but meaningful ways—checking in at the perfect times, making sure everything was exactly how we wanted it, and handling every detail smoothly without making it feel forced or overdone. She struck a great balance between being helpful and giving us space, which made the whole meal feel effortless. Thanks to Genevieve, the service felt thoughtful and well cared for, and she definitely made the experience better than expected.
We had such a great experience here. Our server Angelina made the night even better. She was friendly, attentive, and really knew the menu. She explained how everything worked, and gave excellent recommendations. She made the whole experience feel easy and fun, especially for our first time doing Japanese BBQ. The food was amazing, but her service is what really stood out, that’s gonna make us come back. Highly recommend that you go. Ask for Angelina🩷
Gen and Bach waited our table and were great hosts! It was our first time and Gen went through all of our options and made recommendations based off of our tastes and expectations. They were both incredibly helpful and attentive despite how busy the restaurant was. We definitely recommend and plan to return in the future!
Great first experience at Gyu-Kaku! Our server was fantastic Gen was super friendly, explained how everything worked, and made me feel really welcome since it was my first time there. She checked in at the perfect times and made the whole meal feel easy and fun. Definitely made the experience better!
Angelina handled our party of 20 flawlessly. She was organized, fast, calm under pressure, and somehow still had everyone laughing. Service was smooth, orders were perfect, and the energy at our table was great the entire time. We were even talking with other tables and random guests around us, and multiple random people kept saying how much they loved her too. Our whole group can’t wait to come back and is already planning to bring more friends and family just to sit with her again.
Oh where do I start!!! First of all Genevieve was outstanding she explained each and every menu in detail and we went with every one of her suggestions and we were not disappointed! Angelina also helped us because we kept getting them confused! Angelina was hilarious she had us smiling the whole time along with genevieve! Beautiful girls!!! Gyu kaku you did an amazing job hiring these two girls! You best treat them well! We 1000% will be returning for the food but also very much so for the awesome vibes these two girls brought in to our atmosphere. Definitely our new Friday spot. ASK FOR GENEVIEVE OR ANGELINA WHEN YOU COME HERE YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!!!!
Perfect date night spot! We came in and Bach quickly sat us down at our table and was really accommodating and made sure we ordered our food and got it in a timely manner. Gen took over our table and ensured we were taken care of for the remainder of the time. We will be back again.
Cosmic is great for happy hour or a casual hangout after work. Lots of seating inside, outside, and on the rooftop. They make really good tacos as well. I don’t drink beer so I can’t say much about that, but they have really good cocktails and play good music. I also like the coffee they make as well. I’ve never had a bad time at cosmic
I was so happy to find this place! Cosmic has a beautiful, welcoming entrance, smiles and laughter behind the counter and a breathtaking, enormous patio. I was delighted by our delicious drinks and the mash-up of industrial design and cultural art draped with lush gardens. The vibe is fire. Love it!!
Great place to eat delicious nachos, tacos and burgers. This is a nice spot for hangout with friends since they have large tables for groups. The music was nice too. We tried different things from the menu and everything was good. Our favs was the deluxe nachos with steak, the cosmic quesadilla, pork chile verde tacos and the burgers. Margaritas on the rocks are good too!
This place is so cool! We went the day after Christmas and it wasn’t very busy at all. Bartenders were nice m, drinks were delicious and DJ Cody was mixing some great music. It was a beautiful night. It’s a huge place with tons of places to sit. Bathrooms were clean and that’s always a plus.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cosmic Saltillo – One of Austin’s Coziest Hidden Gems Cosmic Saltillo is exactly the kind of Austin spot you want to hang out at. The moment you walk in, you get a warm welcome and genuinely great customer service. The bartenders are super sweet and always make sure your drinks—hot or cold—come out perfect every time. The outdoor area is what makes this place special. The fire pits are a huge plus, especially on cooler days, and they create the perfect cozy vibe to just relax, talk, and enjoy the atmosphere. Sitting back in their colorful chairs with a warm drink in hand feels like peak Austin chill. And don’t sleep on the food. The tacos here are one of the best hidden gems in Austin—fresh, flavorful, and honestly way better than you’d expect from a bar setting. If you’re searching for best bars in Austin, cozy outdoor patio Austin, Cosmic Saltillo ATX, fire pit bar Austin, warm cocktails Austin, Austin nightlife, or hidden gem tacos Austin, this spot checks all the boxes. Highly recommend—5 stars without hesitation.
Our last day in Austin and so happy we got to visit Cosmic Saltillo! I personally love the sound of the waterfall in the pond, with the rushing waters as the heat from the pits enveloped us. Letting us relax with our coffee this brisk Sunday morning. I highly recommend the Mexican Mocha and the (off the menu,) "Miso butterscotch caramel latte" I didn't get to try their tacos, but I'll definitely come back and try them then.. 😩 see y'all soon!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cosmic Saltillo is such a pleasant and charming spot! They have great cocktails. I especially loved the frozen mango margarita. There’s plenty of seating, it’s very pet-friendly, and the food is really good (the “utiles” are delicious!). Plus, it’s located in a really lovely area. Definitely a place worth visiting! ;)
First time visitor. Wowed immediately by the structure, the decor and the vibe. Super chill as soon as we walked in. Helped immediately. The Mexican food was so delicious, the chips were crunchyAf🧡 all the little nooks and crannies. Awesome place. Highly recommend the Diablo THC blackberry drink. A++. We'll be back!
I think my favorite thing about this place is the variety of outdoor hangout spaces. There's large open areas both downstairs and upstairs and there's tucked away spots for some of us that are more crowd averse. I loved the THC cocktails. I also love that you can add the 3 mg of THC to any of the drinks for an up charge. The food was great. Decent price for being close to downtown and that area. Will frequent this area again.
Cosmic Saltillo is hands-down my favorite morning spot in Austin. I’m here almost every day, and it never disappoints. The coffee is consistently excellent, the staff is friendly and efficient, and the space itself is just beautiful. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, lush greenery, and a great energy that makes it perfect for working, meetings, or just starting the day right. It’s become part of my daily routine for a reason. A true Austin gem. Oh, and I plan and host a lot of events there too. Ps. and yes, their tacos are AWESOME.
This was the food highlight of my visit to Austin Texas. So happy that my family brought me here for dinner. The Al Pastor taco was amazing and so delicious. The combination of flavors was unique and tasty. I ate so many chips and guacamole because they were very very good. The outside dining area was beautiful and so fun and friendly. It was a pleasure to eat here. Definitely not what I expected to find inside after approaching the outside.
Super welcoming spot with a great vibe and incredible dog-friendliness. The staff and even the customers were all friendly, creating a laid-back and inviting atmosphere. I came with my dog and was impressed—they offered her a small bowl of chopped bacon (huge win) and had a dedicated area with clean water bowls and fresh water. The breakfast tacos were very good—nothing mind-blowing, but flavorful, well-prepared, and generously portioned. Service was quick, even during a busy time, and the whole space just feels like somewhere you want to hang out, whether it’s for breakfast, lunch, or casual drinks. Definitely one of my favorite dog-friendly spots in Austin. We’ll be back!
I Love this place!!— this two-story patio oasis is where good vibes meet skyline views. Super popular with locals, it’s the kind of place you can come to study, get work done, or just chill with friends. Upstairs, you’re treated to a gorgeous view of the city and the cozy patio below. Downstairs, there are two separate spots—one for food (think Mexican tacos, breakfast tacos, and classic sodas) and one for coffee and the bar. After 5 PM, they start checking IDs, and things start to shift: DJs, live music, and a lively nighttime vibe. But even with the buzz, the staff is always super chill. Whether you’re there to sip on espresso, grab tacos, or vibe to music under the stars, Cosmic Saltillo always delivers. Save this spot if you’re in ATX and want a go-to hangout with a little bit of everything. Out of their two locations in Austin, this one at Saltillo is hands-down my favorite. Both spots are awesome and popular for good reason, but there’s just something special about this one—maybe it’s the skyline views, the lively upstairs patio, or the chill energy that hits just right.
My first visit at Cosmic Cafe @ Saltillo. Gorgeous environment, trees and water flowing everywhere. Add to that a fun skeleton 💀 for Halloween. I loved the upstairs seating area with an expansive view over the neighborhood and downtown Austin in the distance. Food: disappointing. Not bad, per se but not special. I ordered the pulled pork taco with extra guacamole ($1.00 extra) and Avocado ($1.00 extra). The meat was good and well seasoned but I only got 2 small slices of avocado and a teaspoon of guacamole. Not good. The music was way too loud. I had to literally yell out loud to be heard. Not good. I ordered the mango, lime frozen drink. Not bad but a lot of crushed ice for $8.00. Service: was better than expected considering the bad ratings from other customers. Polite and helpful. But the wait for my food was too long (30+ minutes) considering there was only two people in line before me. Maybe add one more line cook to help expedite their orders. Overall: Could do better. I may come back for the atmosphere but not for the food/drinks. Chef Alain Braux
Great spot on the east side of downtown. The atmosphere is beautiful, though it can be a little loud at times. The coffee is excellent, and the crowd is always an interesting mix of people. Everyone feels welcome here, and it is dog friendly too. Parking is free. The lot is small, but they also validate at the garage around the corner, which I actually prefer since it is shaded compared to the lot that sits in the Texas sun. Just be sure to ask for your QR code when you place your order. There is also a taco place attached, which makes it even better. This is my favorite spot for coffee in this part of town.
I’ve been to Gyu-Kaku in Dallas and Denver and have always loved the experience, so I was excited to try the Austin location. The food was excellent. Fresh, well-marinated, and tender cuts of meat. We especially like the hanger steak. We ordered the 90-minute Ultimate all-you-can-eat. Unfortunately, our server disappeared for long stretches, including about 40 minutes toward the end — no check-ins and no check brought until we flagged someone down. Still a fan of Gyu-Kaku overall, but hoping the Austin location improves service to match the food.
We've always enjoyed eating here. But this place looks like a dump. If it looks bad on the outside, I don't even want to know what the kitchen looks like. We came in about 5:00. We waited 10 minutes for a host to even come to the stand. And then it was another 10 minutes before somebody even came to the table. Countless tables with food on them but nobody's sitting at them.
Cool place to hang out with a large group for a chill atmosphere. The drinks and food were ok. The tacos are overpriced, $6 for a taco that you can find everywhere else for $3. And it did not taste good. We got the steak and mushroom ones. Would come back for the ambiance but would not recommend the food.
I usually try to be understanding when restaurants are busy, but unfortunately we had a very disappointing experience at Gyu-Kaku. During our visit, our server Almeda completely ignored our table for most of the time. We waited a long time just to get basic service, and eventually had to ask other servers for help with our food and requests. It felt like our table was simply forgotten. I do want to mention that the host was very nice and tried to help when we asked. I understand the restaurant was busy, and the host did what they could to assist us, which I appreciated. However, the service from our assigned server really affected the experience. Being ignored for most of the meal made the visit frustrating, and it shouldn’t be necessary for guests to chase down other staff just to get service. I hope management looks into this so future guests have a better experience.
This place is zero percent interested in your business. But the people who work here appear dedicated to making sure you have a horrible time. We’ve been coming since the day this place opened. We have, previously, ordered a wide variety of coffee drinks from the exact same spot - a hundred times. I had been out of town for a while. I had no idea that they had stopped taking orders from that spot, and seemingly now take all orders only from the long bar. This would have been an easy situation to remedy on their part. And, to her credit, one of the people behind the bar began to try. Until this bastion of customer service began arguing with me, and telling me that I was flat out wrong - drinks were never ordered anywhere else. I was an idiot. Well. The owner is great. His projects are fun, and he sincerely cares about the Austin vibe. With that in mind, I asked the guy at the entrance to have a quick chat with a manager. I was informed that was not an option - and no manager wanted to talk to me. As someone who had previously had conversations with the owner about placing my clients as tenants in his new project in South Austin, this was the wrong answer. Thank god I didn’t place my clients into any dealings with such a low rent organisation.
