Hecho En Mexico Austin Reviews
Great interior Mexican menu - wonderful, friendly service, nice happy hour specials and live music Thursday evenings. Great experience and will be back soon!
I had one of the best Mexican meals ever here. The handmade corn tortillas were amazing. You have to try the marisco
Hands down best Mexican food in Austin. Incredible food, service, and atmosphere. We come here every week and it’s always consistent and amazing. 10/10!
5 of us met after church to enjoy a wonderful meal. Very thin chips with good salsa. I had the chili Delano’s (yum) and my husband really enjoyed the enchiladas Diablo! Yes they were spicy! Great service and quite small restaurant. Will be back!
Been coming to this spot for like 10 years now... why I am leaving a review now and not before is poor on my behalf. This place is a home away from home. JC and Mario (and everyone else) always treat me like family when i walk through the door. Literally some of the best Mexican food i have ever had. If you are a fan of spicy, please try the Diablas Enchiladas (its not for the weak so beware) This place might be my favorite restaurant!!!
The food and presentation amazing! So delicious! Authentic Mexican food at its finest! Can’t wait to go back.
I've came here for years but haven't been lately. I ordered Bistec soup. Apparently I forgot to ask for everything on the side. Which was my fault and I felt bad. Offered to pay for those too but waiter and owner said not to worry just wanted me happy.. the food great and always been along w service. But as a small business owner myself I know these little things catch up. He with a smile laughed and said just long as your happy. Honestly even before this he's came out multiple times to make sure everything was great. I should of wrote a review year or so ago.
Staff is excellent, great service and drinks are full of spirits. Food quality is wonderful. Location is perfect. The only thing negative I’d say is I wish they played more Mexican music and I wish they didn’t charge for Tajin for your margaritas, it’s .50 to add Tajin instead of salt.
Hecho is truly one of the best kept secrets for upscale Mexican dining without the upscale prices, in Austin. Amazing interior food. The menu has a lot of great and flavorful choices. I love the mole sampler. It’s my go to comfort food! Their chef knows chilies and how to use them so they don’t over-spice a dish and all you get is burning heat with no flavor! The soup of the day is always made on site and it’s delicious. Their chef knows tequila selection is one of the best. I highly recommend going to their super fun and informative Tequila Dinner events with a group of friends.
So yummy! The service is wonderful and they all make you feel very welcome. The atmosphere was great and for the price and portion sizes, what you get is pretty great. I ordered the spinach enchiladas with verdes sauce and the black beans. It was great! I am looking forward to my next visit to Hecho En Mexico.
The Mexican food is the best I've had in texas since I've been in Austin. Let me explain, Tex-mex is so tasty, but my body rejects it, im half asian/white, lol. Been eating m3xican food since 1989, always messed me up. No offense to tex-mex, my wife is from the valley and she knows tex-mex! The food is fresh, perfectly seasoned and just like when I experienced interior Mexican food at the Excellence resort in cancun. If you are a weakling like me or want interior Mexican food, you can not go wrong here. Also, Jaime was great explaining the dishes and suggesting what he liked and suggested thay would be good if you weren't sure and were indecisive. My most favorite Mexican joint for now on. I will definitely try everything in the menu, minus cevechie, only because raw seafood scares me, withe the hot 9cean waters, 😆.
Hidden gem for Mexican food in South Austin. Starting off with the atmosphere, it’s a very small restaurant but cozy in my opinion with a great selection of music. I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas and it’s always a hit or miss whenever I go to a Mexican restaurant (almost a miss every single time) but these were extremely good. Husband ordered the cochinita pibil plate and it was very juice and tender. Refried beans and rice were on point as well. He accompanied the plate with organic homemade blue corn tortillas and they were great too. Overall a great experience. Food tasted very home made and from scratch. Will definitely come back.
What a delightful restaurant! Pictured is the cauliflower Bunuelos de Coliflor, after we had already dug in. This sweet spot is owned and operated by the family who are attentive and incredibly personable. The salsa is some of the best in town. Do yourself a favor and try this place out! The soup of the day was cream of mushroom with poblano and was delicious.
If you’re a Mexican tourist, Mexican US resident, Mexican US citizen… anything related to a Mexican person, then you must come here. As of today, during all my US travels, this is the food that is closest to a Mexican soil flavor. I was here only for breakfast but I can tell the all day long menu is delicious. Good food, good people… attended by real Mexican people with real roots in our country (MEXICO of course). So 5 stars for the delicious memory (at least the closest) of my country. Cheers.
Scammed me on the drinks. $17 for a skinny margarita. $6 charge for Fresca. I got a to go order and they didn’t tell me HH doesn’t apply to skinny drinks and didn’t tell me that to-go drinks don’t qualify. I asked about HH pricing before all that too. Charged me after the fact and didn’t tell me. They also charge a 2.99% cc conscience fee. Food is definitely good. I went back and had a server/table. I updated my review to reflect overall of both times. I'll go back.
The menu had a variety of selections and the appetizers and meal were tasty. The pricing was very reasonable for both food and drinks. The service was great. Very friendly and helpful staff. On Thursday evenings at 7pm there is live entertainment. The restaurant is quaint and nestled in between businesses resulting in good parking during the evening hours.
Food was tasty and menu has great options. We had the guacamole, fajita quesadillas and the chile relleno. All were very good but expect small portions at a high cost. For example the beef quesadillas were $15. No sides. Service was ok. It’s like our server didn’t really want to be there and seemed bothered every time we asked for something. And if you visit the ladies bathroom beware Don Quixote! lol!!
A nice intimate bistro style atmosphere with excellent food. On weekends they have musical accompaniment for your dining. We focused on the enchiladas this visit. The Suizas Tradicionales was great but the Platon de Enchiladas de Mole, was excellent with a selection of three different styles of Mole sauce. The three different mole sauces were a blast of flavor combinations, each with its own spark — Blanco (served over seafood enchiladas), Poblano (over chicken enchiladas) and Mantelas (typically served over beef enchiladas). Each was a subtle mix of ground chiles, spices and pine nuts or almonds. Rich with flavor and que delicioso. The margaritas were also solid, the lime mix was not too tart or overbearing. The background noise makes it difficult to have a conversation. Overall a nice place with good food.
I was excited to try this place because it’s called “hecho en Mexico” I have family from Mexico and I know plenty of authentic plates. The atmosphere is sub par, quiet.. no music playing except bohemian rhapsody, although I love the music, it’s not authentic Mexican music. Starters- chips and salsa, chips are super flimsy and you can hardly scoop salsa, the salsa was unappealing and wasn’t good. The only other salsa option was too spicy to enjoy at all. The original ceviche was amazing but it was unusual that it’s served with three thicker tortilla chips and you have to pay for extra. I ordered horchata and my husband ordered tamarindo, they tasted pretty good but the horchata does has a strong cinnamon kick at the end which wasn’t too enjoyable. Also, 10-12oz cup NO REFILLS and it costs $5 so just enough to taste but not enjoy with food. I ordered eggs, jamón, beans and papas, but the papas were hard. I had to actually use a knife to cut them which is not what i imagine when I think of papas that aren’t fried. Fried papas, you expect a crunch but not papas made on a flat top grill. Toward the end, received the check, charged 1.19 for a convenience fee for whatever reason and 2.99% for a credit card convenience fee. Extra fees for whatever reason??? What was convenient?? Wouldn’t return again, wouldn’t recommend either. Not one Latino in the restaurant except the employees… not surprised. You’re paying for location here not the food. Over priced
I was disappointed in the dinner that I purchased. Two Enchiladas with side of rice and side of black beans. I arrived hungry and I left hungry. I bought a small hamburger, at Wendy's, on my way home. This restaurant offers small portions at a high cost. Flavor was just okay. I got great service from my server. But, I won't return unless it's for their Margaritas.
