I love ratatouille (not a very common dish to find in the states for whatever reason), so when I learned they served it here, I had to go. It did not disappoint! So delicious, and I will be a repeat customer for that alone 🥹 The atmosphere toward the bar area is really cool, but the layout of the restaurant feels a little interesting as you move past it. Not terrible, but definitely unusual and some may not love. I’ve been twice now and the service has been great. Second time going, I ordered the steak frites. The fries and aioli sauce were some of the best I’ve had. On the steak side, our server mentioned that their medium rare often comes a little more rare, but she did still recommend. Unfortunately, it was prepared more on the blue side which was a little rough for me, so for the first time in my life, I asked to have a dish changed or sent back. Our server and supporting staff were all SO kind about it, and even gave us complimentary dessert (which was sooo delicious)! Still a 5-star spot for me even with the miss on the steak. The ratatouille, dessert, atmosphere near the bar, and service are just that great to me.

Hopfields is now one of my top go to is the environment is very Austin and very classy. It is also a full bar with an exciting menu and for the burger nuts like me it is absolutely amazing. It’s all about the fries! They don’t stop there with top shelf cocktails - attention to detail and top class experience

I go here a lot. The food is delicious. They have a great beer, wine and cocktail menu. The atmosphere is magical. I highly recommend the duck reuben and the pascal burger.

Wow! What a delightful surprise! The steak frites were fantastic. Also the restaurant is so cool. It felt like an art house.

I am so glad I walked into Hopfields a few years ago. It has a welcoming bistro vibe, it is unpretentious, and very much my go-to spot whenever I'm in the neighborhood (or, a destination when I want to go directly there for a happy afternoon!). McKwlenzie and every one of the other staff members are always so welcoming. Fantastic music playing overhead every single time I have been there. And the food and drink is on point!

I really enjoy hopfields! Neighborhood gastro pub with that funky Austin vibe. I always get the chicken liver mousse, and the steak frites. Both super tasty! Steak was cooked and seasoned well and a good portion considering how many farm to table restaurants skimp on sizes. The bartenders are engaging and I’ve had great wine there! 100% will be a regular!

Very fine dining in a more eclectic and relaxed atmosphere. Attentive service and every dish was delicious! Thank you for a wonderful meal. There was a group of five and we were seated at a back table that made it easy to enjoy conversation.

Hopfields was incredible. We had reservations and a table ready, but ended up moving to the bar so we could watch the game. The servers were busy, yet they still took time to chat and make us feel welcome. The food and drinks were delicious, and the atmosphere was such a fun surprise — it honestly felt like we were somewhere in Europe. Great vibe, great service. I’ll be back for sure.

We were looking for somewhere to eat late at night in Austin and we ran into this little gem. We were tired and at first glance the menu was different and we had teenagers with us, so we debated leaving to get some burgers at a drive thru. I am sure glad we didn’t! The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The Mexican Martini was a clear winner at the table, but my husband’s mocktail was equally delicious. They have a wide selection of beers which is what I had and it was nice and cold. My husband had the Chicken on the dinner menu. It was juicy, tender, and flavorful, he loved it, my brother had the burger which was cooked to perfection, his words not mine. Didn’t try that one but he devoured it so that says it all. My sister in law had the French Onion Soup which she loved, I did try that one which I have never had that soup. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. It had a creamy gravy like broth that was very warming to the heart. But for me my dish took the grand prize, I had the mussels and fries. They were amazing, the broth had a perfect blend of spices that literally blew my mind. The fries were perfection and they were topped of with a truffle sauce which was to die for. It was a huge portion, but I could not stop eating it. They were easily the best mussels and fries I have ever had. The kids had basic stuff like steak and fries and a plain burger which they both enjoyed. This definitely will be a spot I will visit every time I come to Austin, everything was amazing the drinks, the food, the service. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for amazing drinks and food. They obviously know what they are doing and everything came or so quickly. My brother lives near by and both him and my sister in law were happy to find this place as well. Thank you for an amazing experience!

Came here just for the French Onion Soup and my gosh it was worth it. It was a tad pricey but it was a massive bowl and they didn't skimp out on the cheese, bread, or onion. The only slight downside was the lack of broth, could just drink it straight. We also got the creme brulee and dang it was so satisfying, the fresh vanilla bean was just the cherry on top. Don't miss out!

I had the best experience here! My friends and I tried the Ratatouille, chicken pasta and burger- and everything was delicious. The tall bartender with the glasses was really sweet and accommodating. Will definitely be going back

Since I’ve been going to Hopfields for 10 years now with friends and family, or for anything special, then maybe it’s time for a review.. Hopfields is a gourmet French restaraunt disguised by its name and the word “Gastropub”. It has fusion elements, but make no mistake, it’s not “Asian-French”. It’s “French -French” A great example is “Rabbit with dumplings” as pictured. This… I did not share… and I’m a sharer! It was like a rabbit stew, with very small dumplings to suck in the flavor. For me, it’s simply indescribable, and needs a pro food critic for description. Which is the true definition of understated great food, which is what Hopfield’s is all about. The salad nicoise is undeserved by Austin. 2 eggs, with house made aoli and anchovies complete the bounty of colorful and delicious ingredients to choose from arranged around the lettuce and seared tuna. Fortunately, I never have to order this. I simply get someone else to get it, eat everything, and they leave the eggs and anchovies for me to finish off! French onion soup. Get out of here. Had it in France enough to know, this beats that. Escargot. In Spain, I ate basket of snails with a toothpick and garlic aoli, so maybe escargot isn’t for everyone as it is for me: a craving. While Hopfield’s doesn’t do it as authentically as France, this is through an understanding of the local audience I feel, and they do a great job. As you can see in the photo, I vibe this was escargot, already within pastry. No spreading the snail and garlic butter on bread. Disguising the mollusk. So more palatable for those who go don’t order Ebi Shrimp sushi with the head on like myself. Wine recommendation from staff was great! I’m not as picky about my wine as my snails. “Fruit forward Red”, perfect. If you go to Hopfields, you won’t write a review for 10 years until you move out of Austin like me. Because you’ll ant to keep this treasure all to yourself. My Precious!!! (Yes, that was written with a Gollum voice in mind)

This is one of our favorite places because of the delicious food and creative cocktails. We like the mussels, burgers, fries, and many other items on the menu. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. When we were there the Olympics were being shown on a big projection screen. The Hyde Park Theatre is nearby if you are looking for something else to do after grabbing a bite or drink.

31 Aug ‘23 Started with a kir royale (cassis with Andre Delorne sparkling wine). It was well proportioned and excellent. It’s a simple thing, but so many places don’t get the proportions, right. Bartender was excellent and very knowledgeable. Enjoyed the steak frites it was a nice filet medium rare. Loved the stock of different types of gin at the bar — I had two Austin sours, nice cherry flavor from the Luxardo gin. I enjoyed a small glass Firestone Walker Parabola (2022). Had the crème brûlée which was very nice indeed. I love the atmosphere, and enjoyed Junior Brown and other “real” stuff in rotation on the music. The flatware and plates were even nice too. Overall a great space, great menu and excellent bartending.

One of the top to go French restaurants of choice in town. Especially if you want a less crowded places for a more romantic setting. The place has great mood lighting for dates or family style meals or just grabbing a quick fare with friends or coworkers in their 3 partitions. The Entree menu changes seasonally and the quality and portion of food for the price are very well justified. I have never left feeling hungry but always have felt satisfied. The wine listings are wide and really good and the server recommendation pair really well with the food.

A great spot with two vibes once inside The front is a bit more busy with more noise while the back is more quiet and calm. Neither was off putting and both are great places to enjoy this fantastic restaurant. The food and drinks were very well executed and so delicious. There is a large selection of beers on tap along with excellent wine and cocktails to choose from. The escargot dumplings were incredible and the beef bourguignon was melt in your mouth tender and delicious. Uber is probably better than driving as parking is a bit of a challenge, but the trip is absolutely worth it.

Amazing selection of craft beers and wine. They always do a great job of keeping the beer menu up to date. The ambiance is charming and patrons are diverse across any number of characteristics. Food is really excellent here as well. Tried the vegan muscles and fries which was surprisingly spicy and a bit oily if I'm being honest. But they tasted great together and we uses the left over sauce and oil to make a killer vegetable stir fry at home. Will always be one of our favorites but it is expensive.

This gastropub has an interesting rustic-chic interior that adds to its vibe. It was our first time visiting, so we weren’t sure where to park at first. Turns out, they have four parking spots located behind the restaurant. One thing also to note is that you need to place your order at the bar. We tried the French Omelette and the Eggs Benedict. If you’re avoiding meat, the omelette is a good option. It’s creamy and cheesy. The menu mentioned the omelette comes topped with caviar, but mine dish didn’t, which was a little disappointing. The Eggs Benedict, on the other hand, was well-cooked and tasty.

When I see “French cuisine “ I expect French but here the food is more like a fusion, please don’t get me wrong the food was tasty but not at all original, very pricey for not being authentic French cuisine. The place was very nice once you are taken to a table, the area for dining is cozy! So a plus for ambience. I give a 4 star for service because they were rushing us out. In France no one rushes you out…so I missed that “no rush feeling ” you get dining in France.

I’m very confused by this place. I met a friend there for a Sunday dinner. Two hosts and four people behind the bar but no servers. We had to order at the bar and get our own waters from a “watering station”… which also meant having to get up every single time we needed more water. For the price you’re paying, I would expect to have full service… even if it is only a slower Sunday night. The French onion soup was decent but the bread they used was burnt so I kept getting burnt tastes in every other bite. The cuolotte steak and frites was a bit under medium rare, and the fries were over salted. Since there was not a server, no one asked us how the food was. Which again, for the price point is insane not having full service. I will say that the crème brûlée was perfection. Great texture and taste, and flavorful fruit. Overall, I think that the menu is a bit overpriced and they need to have table service. To me you can have great food but if the service isn’t there, neither will I. Probably won’t be back for a full meal but definitely will come for the crème brûlée!

Quality food but subpar service. Excellent mussels and enjoyed the ratatouille. Good selection of appetizers and traditional French desserts. Our server was friendly and helpful but consistently forgot to bring items. First a glass of wine, later refills of water. The water was MIA until we reminded her. Two entrées came out then we waited several minutes until they brought the rest of the entrées.

I wanted to love this place from the moment I walked in, but it disappointed me. (3.5) stars would be more accurate. The GOOD: accepts reservations, and the hostess was lovely. Female server was super friendly, and the environment is deeply relaxing without feeling stuffy. The liver mousse was delicious and the tomato chutney on the side was yummy, if overly sweet. But, I wish the toasted French bread had not been saturated in oil. Unnecessary and unhealthy. I liked the mussels but fair warning, the sauce is full of chili so it’s not the garlicky white wine sauce our table was expecting. I was the only thumbs up out of 3. The TROUBLING: not enough green choices. The male server helping was quite pompous-actually we found him unpleasant and snooty. The BAD: the frites were great but way too salty, the coulotte cut of beef in our steak frites was a bit undercooked unfortunately for me, since I insisted on medium rare (they prefer medium) and there were several gristly bites. The mussels were served with fries but we asked for bread as well. Sadly, it was the same overly saturated toasted French bread. I suspect they aren’t using fresh French bread so the oil is a magic trick. I don’t like it at all. Plain toasted French bread please! I’ll go back for the duck and to become reacquainted with the Salade niçoise which I remember being tasty. Maybe I’ll find something cravable and upgrade the stars.

I was looking for an interesting place to take my wife for a nice lunch. It's a little bit of a drive for us, but it's all good. When we got there, we managed to find a lucky parking spot in the back. Downside to eating downtown is parking. The minute we walked in, my wife loved it. It's very uniquely decorated to its theme. We didn't have reservations because the host asked us, but there were very few people there. We were seated in the rear of the restaurant, which I recommend because the ac works better there. Once seated, our server was awesome 👌 I was a little surprised by the menu because there was not a lot to choose from. Not many people there it took a while to get our order. I ordered the English breakfast. It was mediocre. The sausage could have been bigger. The bacon was salty as hell. It seemed like a cheap version of an English breakfast french style. But pricey. Talk about BS. The BLT was good. Can't really go wrong there. The escargot was very plain. Missing the garlic. The presentation was nice but very bland. I've tried escargot in Paris and a few places in the States, but this was numbing bland. It's really a disgrace. Save your $16 dollars. I did want the burger, but not at $21, especially when it's 80/20. Enough said interesting place spent $80 on a few items not really interested in returning. They need a menu overhaul, and the place might be worth going to. Honestly, the bbq place next door looked good. For the money and better fill, why not try the bbq place next time.

Mixed feelings; way too heavy I've heard many good things about this place but I wasn't blown away. The food is good, but heavy, and at times unpleasantly non-traditional. For example, I like my beef tartar ground, not in chunks like Hawaiian poke; that needs an immediate change! The chickens skins were flavorful, but sooo greasy it affected my stomach. Fries with mules is a great idea but no one in France does it THAT spicy and with so little mules; execution falls short. Even their cheese board was a bit underwhelming when you look at the price and content. So, it was OK, but I seriously make better European-style food at home that doesn't give me a heart attack every day.
