Julio's Cafe Austin Reviews
Julio’s is a little hidden gem right in Hyde Park. Our first time visit and the owner Claudia made the experience so amazing with her service and the food was delicious (as well as the margaritas). Can’t recommend this place enough!
Delicious food and excellent service, plus wonderful margaritas!
I can’t express how amazing this restaurant is. As mexican myself, I can affirm that this food is authentic and super delicious! I feel like i’m tasting home again which is hard to find. The owner is so sweet, she makes this place feel like family and home 🤍
The service! The food! The owner Claudia! There is not much more I can say about this place. Local, friendly, high quality, and an atmosphere with little competition. Having been in Austin for 10 years, it shocks me that I have not been here sooner. New owners took over a long established Mexican spot 2 years ago and have made it even better. I cannot wait to go back for mole enchiladas or fish fridays. Try the green chicken enchiladas, the pozole soup, rotisserie chicken, or beef quesadilla.
We came for Breakfast kinda unexpectedly and it was the best meal and service i’va had in Austin in a while. The homemade homey feeling is wonderful and all the staff is amazing and kind. Will 100% back to keep trying more of their menu
Stopped in here for lunch while I was out making work calls. When I walked in I was immediately acknowledged with a warm smile. They were so nice and accommodating asking if I’d had ever been in before, explaining to order at the cash register etc. I started with chips and salsa which were obviously made there and amazing! Then had the enchilada plate. Everything was awesome! I will keep this on my radar when in the area!
I practically come to this place almost every day, and the food always feels like it was made by my mom — truly homemade, comforting, and consistently delicious every single time. I absolutely love their chicken mole Mondays, the flautas, the nachos with ground beef, the margaritas, the queso with chips, the pozole, and the chicken soup. Even the rice has a unique, incredible flavor. Honestly, I love everything about this place. The food, the consistency, and the home-style taste make it a spot I always look forward to coming back to. Highly recommended! And I forget the actitudes from all of the staff Staring from the owner cashier Sofi or Blanca Or Sheiyo
Had such a great experience at this Mexican restaurant! It’s woman-owned, and the owner was seriously the sweetest. When she found out it was our first time there, she brought us some samples to try, which was such a nice surprise. Everything was so good, and the customer service and vibe were just awesome. Definitely going back!
Julio’s is an absolute gem. You can feel the history the moment you walk in. A 40+ year, family-run, generational business that truly gets it right. The staff was incredibly friendly, the restaurant was spotless, and the food was some of the most authentic and best-tasting Mexican food we’ve had. We met Claudia, the owner, and she was so kind and welcoming. You can tell this place is run with real care and pride. My wife, myself, and our baby daughter all loved it. Zero reservations, zero complaints. Local, authentic, and done right. We will absolutely be back soon.
Claudia! She’s amazing; genuine and authentic. You can feel the energy right when you walk into her restaurant. Food great! Drinks great! Overall vibe was amazing and will be coming back for sure
The owner, Claudia, is absolutely amazing!! It was my first time here and she sat us down and personally served us. Her energy is unmatched and we will absolutely be back. And to top it all off the food, margaritas, and mexican martinis were next level!
Top and the line customer service, and delicious food. Fairly priced and served with a smile. If you’re in the area, make sure you stop by Julio’s Cafe. 10/10 would recommend.
Customer service was top tier. We had a party of 9 and they made it work for us to be able to sit together. The food was amazing. Mole, rice, beans, enchiladas, breakfast tacos all of it was real good
From the very first time I walked into Julio’s, I felt so welcomed. My parents are usually hard to please when it comes to Austin restaurants, but they loved Julio’s—and I did too! I think I ended up eating here five times in one week. Every meal was consistently delicious, but the pozole is truly amazing—rich, flavorful, and comforting. On one visit with a friend, we were greeted by (I believe) the owner, who even remembered seeing us before and was glad we came back. While we were looking over the menu and asking for recommendations, she kindly offered us a free sample of the cucumber margarita. It’s those small gestures that make a place feel special. At Julio’s, you don’t just feel like a customer—you feel like they genuinely want you to enjoy the food and the experience.
Julio’s is one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood to support! THE CHICKEN !!! Handsdown the BEST, always juicy and full of flavor. And don’t sleep on the green salsa… it’s a must with everything! The staff is genuinely the sweetest, A true Hyde Park classic that never disappoints dinein or togo!
New owners, UPDATE: I was nervous about Julio's changing hands, as I've been coming here for over 20 years and didn't want it to change. Good news! it's even better than it used to be. The new owners kept the old menu, so I can still get my favorite soft tacos. PLUS they've added a few new things: Monday special: chicken mole, Friday: fish tacos, and Tuesday: crispy tacos. Pozole soup is a new everyday item; we tried it and loved it. Everything was delicious. Whew! I hope this restaurant is around for another 20 years.
This is in the Hyde Park and Hancock Park area of Austin. So beautiful, fun and retro. I visited during the week during the lunch hour rush. The place was hopping busy, but I was still able to find a seat in their cozy and energy filled dining room. They also had an outside dining area option that would allow you to enjoy the neighborhood vibe. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the food was very good. They took my order in a timely manner and my food was served within minutes. I ordered the chicken quesadilla with spanish style rice. Both were delicious and the serving size was appropriate for a lunch meal. I'm not a big fan of food coma serving sizes. I prefer smaller portions with an emphasis on quality not quantity. They even appear to be dog friendly.
the service was very friendly and fast. chips and salsa were not free but were very very good. however, the portion sizes of the food were very small and the quality was mediocre. got the veggie taco plate and an enchilada; there was one enchilada and one singular taco and the tortilla was definitely store bought. and the prices are not at all appropriate for the amount of food you receive. the limeade was super tasty, and the salsa was delicious, but for the main course you might as well eat at home.
First time here just a few things I didn’t like no soda 🥤 fountain ❌ you need to order at register ❌ The portions of food are very poor in quantity❌ In every Mexican restaurant oh that they serve Mexican food they give you chips and sauce as a tradition here not here you have to "PAY THEM" how sad❌ I love rice and beans 😞 but I think the portions we get is like a one 1/2 ounces I bet you❌
