Frequently asked questions about Civil Goat Coffee
Civil Goat Coffee Austin Reviews
Super nice and friendly staff. Food was delicious and my drink was so tasty. Both recommendations from staff. Thank you for a lovely experience!
Pretty excited about bacon on avocado toast! Gluten free bread available. Staff were so nice and coffee was piping hot! Variety of coffee selections, including pour overs. Comfy seating & indoor/outdoor seating.
This was my second timing coming, the first time I went during the colder months and they had an earthy latte, I think something with rosemary? It was phenomenal. The second time I got an iced lavender latte with almond milk and it was Devine. I believe they might make their own lavender syrup? Didn’t taste like Monin brand lavender syrup! And I got a breakfast croissant sandwhich with egg, cheese, avocado, bacon, and some sort of jelly or sweet sauce? Never tasted anything like it before and I so badly want to recreate it at home! The coffee barista/the person taking my order both times were so sweet, and I asked where they got their piercings done because I’m new to Austin and they recommended Shaman Mods! I went there finally and it was everything I needed and more! THANK YOU!
(No offense) Not a convenience to study, but many people are doing their work even in the early morning. That’s so interesting!! I visited here to study once, and again.. again…. Nice coffee and delicious scone! Want to try other plate soon!
Relaxed place with cool & friendly staff. Lots of space inside / outside. Parking is not a problem too. They take coffee seriously so you can’t go wrong here.
Visiting from Kansas City and stopped by this place during spring break on a Wednesday morning. Great atmosphere and service. They accidentally spilled the cappuccino and made us a new one and let us drink the rest of the spilled one - a bonus for me since I started with the cortado! Brought my 2 and 4 year old and they loved the cookie and coffee cake! I love the coffee, but it may be a bit more on the “earthy” side for light coffee drinkers.
Love their cappuccino and how consistent they are on quality. Their breakfast sandwich is also delicious! Service is hit or miss, sometimes the person at the register is very friendly and other times it's someone with little social skills.
If you love quality coffee, go to Civil Goat Coffee, a coffee shop north of UT's campus. I went on a Saturday morning and the wait wasn't too long to order. The friendly barista took my order for a vanilla latte and it was ready within three minutes. The space itself is very bright and inviting. There's window seating and a back room with more tables.
Great coffee! Açaí bowls are worth a look, but the toasts are a little over priced for what you get. Fun atmosphere and chill vibes.
TLDR: great espresso and lovely place to work. I had a great cappuccino. They know what to do with the milk! As evidenced by the latte art in my photos. The steel cut oats were served cold. Maybe that’s a thing and I just haven’t ever had it that way, but I was surprised. Nonetheless, it was really good. The vibe of the place is lively. It a lot of space available, but it was mid to late morning and I guess that’s to be expected. In all, well worth the stop.

Nice little nook for coffee. Had a cold brew on a warm day. Banana bread was moist and paired well. A little echo but conversations were easily understood. Costs were typical for a coffee house. $5 for 16oz. Cold brew, $3.25 for banana bread.

Went to Civil Goat Coffee for the first time yesterday, and my experience was great. The store is pretty cute and chic, with a plenty of indoor & outdoor seatings. It was a Saturday morning and the store was quite busy when I went in. However, the baristas were able to greet us immediately and let us know that he’ll be with us shortly. While waiting to get my drinks, I walked around the store and I really like their taste in interior design. So many cute corners and vintage furnitures. The drinks I got was London Fog, which I give 8/10. My friend got drip coffee and he really liked it 9/10. Definitely recommend and will come back again.
Nice cafe! Spacious, much available seating indoor and outdoors. The WiFi is okay. Plenty of outlets. My friend enjoyed her vanilla nitro brew. It was sweet and smooth at first and then the coffee flavor was strong. My other friend likes her strong cappuccino that has an optimal amount of espresso. I found my latte okay, a bit strong and slightly watery. I’d come again when they finished unpacking and setting up, because it's a bit incomplete and needs some tidying still before I can give my 5 star review.

Exceptions are high given than there are many good cafes in Austin; thus, only 4 stars. I was expecting a much better coffee bean, better roast, and consequently better espresso. Civil Goat is pretty average, and overpriced.

Lovely space. It’s usually quiet when I go, even when it’s full. The drip coffee is surprisingly good, and I loved the pumpkin drink I had this week. On the other hand...the staff has never been warm or approachable. I try not to let that affect my experience, but it’s noticeable. I showed up once after a holiday to find them closed with no sign on the door and no update on their website or social media... Another time, I tried calling with a quick question and no one picked up. (But the location on Manor does, so...). Biggest downside was seeing espresso dispensed into a plastic cup as part of the drink making process before being mixed with syrup, milk, and ire. I’m used to seeing hot drinks mixed in stainless steel, so it made me a bit uneasy with what we know about microplastics and all.
Mid experience. Staff seemed annoyed I walked in the door. London Fog latte was good, but lukewarm. It was also freezing in the building. Cute vibes though, but could use an update as a lot of the furniture and fixtures are very obviously run down.

Everything about this place is strange and unwelcoming. From staff attitude to the atmosphere to the furniture, the bathroom?? Is this a dive bar? its all telling you to leave. The main seating are these horribly uncomfortable and painful wood surfaces. Some at the front window where you perch perilously on a tiny hard wood circle held up by a tiny iron rod. It feels very unstable. Seats at the bar are simply hard with the tiniest back, not meant for comfort. Nothing about this place meant for comfort and made me want to leave but was now waiting on an order. Won't be coming back. Customer service: sour, not inviting or welcoming. Atmosphere/vibe: not good, dirty dirty everywhere. Coffee spills on walls, greasy hand prints on windows, seating in disrepair. Plants sad and dying. Music is strangely upbeat world funk jams, for a place that is so unwelcoming the music is trying hard to mask it. The sunny windows also try to mask it, but to no avail. This place feels sad and uncared for. Food: good, a positive, but with poor care of the space, it makes me question it It really seems like management has let this place go and not kept up with maintenance. Vibe here feels very off. Please take care of this space and your people! Could be a great cafe if it was cared for.
I generally do not leave bad reviews, because sometimes people/places just have a bad day. However, I was genuinely excited to try this place based on the reviews. I received a beautifully crafted Honey Latte, and was contemplating ordering something to eat... I did NOT order food or finish drinking the coffee, that was only fair to begin with, due to finding giant roaches in the hall near the kitchen, registerand, on the way to the restroom... 🤮 I understand roaches can happen, in most food establishments, but to not clean them up being right in the view of customers is disturbing!

The terrible service is the reason for the one star. They had mediocre coffee, terrible seats, all the plants where dying and full of fungus which is terrible for everyone. It is impossible to walk around the place freely because all the seats are so close to each other and even to get in line is a nightmare. The cashier this morning was very aloof or too sleepy to function or both. The only barista was so slow and having to get help of the cashier, they need a lot more people and training them on how to treat costumers and do their job. Never coming back to that location.
They let a homeless man put his dirty bare feet up on one of the coffee tables. Other people sit there and put their food on the same table where this homeless man put his dirty bare feet and this is extremely disgusting and unhygienic. I do not feel comfortable eating somewhere where someone put their dirty bare feet up on the table where I’m eating. I think the staff should have more regulations about customers being required to wear shoes and follow basic hygiene and cleanliness standards, such as not putting dirty feet up on tables where other customers eat. Rating 1 star overall even though the food and drinks were delicious because any place serving food should do the bare minimum of enforcing basic hygiene rules. The staff needs to speak up and ensure basic hygiene rules are being met, even if it means removing a customer that is ruining the experience for everyone else.

Came here at 8:30am on a Friday, and the blonde barista was shouting her conversation and cursing at the guy across from her so loud that I'll never come back here. How self-important and oblivious can you be while at work?? Our two drinks also took 15 minutes because she was too busy chatting. Espresso was fine.
