Key Bar Austin Reviews
Whoever their DJ is on Saturday nights is the best I’ve heard….. and I’ve heard a lot. Vibes were immaculate all night
Outstanding time here! Came after kayaking and staff was friendly and fast. Drinks were made by Tommy and he did a great job, one of the best Moscow mules I've had! Will be coming back for sure next time I'm in Austin.
We came here while on my friends bach party and had a great time. It did get EXTREMLY packed on Fridays and Saturdays (a given but it was hard to stand without getting hit by people walking by). The bouncers were pretty good, very attentive. The bathrooms were dirty (also a given since it was packed). The bussers were very good at picking up trash on the floor people threw down, etc. The DJ......I do not know his name but this he was the BEST DJ I have ever heard at a bar. He blended songs perfectly and the transitions were seamless. He knew how to read the room and change up the vibe if no-one was feeling it. Drinks were standard pricing $8 for a beer, etc. We defiantly had a blast here and came back the next day for a few hours.
This place was a pleasant surprise. We were heading to a different bar and ended going here instead because it caught our eye. I am only giving them four stars because I did not try their cocktails and tried the local beers on tap. The bar tender was really awesome and gave us tips on where to eat as we were visiting from out of town.
Cool place to people watch thanks to the large patio situated on a busy corner. Especially love going here on Halloween. Gotta try the popsicle drinks! I like the fact they have cider. Bartenders are friendly. Great place to go without young college kids around.
I really really like this place. It has the energy of the younger patrons and is totally welcoming to an old hippie chick like me. I'll be back when I can stay longer to hang out and indulge in some people watching from their covered deck. The staff is awesome; and the drinks are superb.
Djs at night are absolutely horrid. Have no sense of music rythem or how to mix properly. This dude tonight sounds like a newbie. Jumping from song to song, genre to genre, super slow to super fast with 0 mixing abilities. Sounds like a tiktok dj that was ordered off temu. Made the experience horrible. Had to leave after a bit because the music was that bad
I was inside of key bar on March 1st with my friends during the time of the mass shooting that occurred at Buford’s. My friends and I ran to the back glass room with other groups to hide around 1:57, and by 2AM we were also told by multiple security working at the bar that we had to leave because “they were closed” while there was an active shooter on the street. If there were guests inside until 2:20AM it was not lucky enough to be any of us. We are lucky to be safe and alive even though we had to find our own safety after being kicked out. Very disappointed in how this was handled speaking for at least the group I was with.
extremely disappointed with the way this establishment handled the shooting that happened on march 1st, the shooting started at 1:58am and they had the bouncers KICK us out of the bar at 2, while there was an active shooter out on the street. When we begged the bouncer to let us stay a couple minutes longer he said “sorry we’re closed”. This place obviously doesn’t care for the wellbeing of their customers and i couldn’t be more disgusted.
I was in line like everyone else on 11/02/25 and the plus sized African American door man said he didnt like my look and put his hands on me to throw me out of line . I gave him zero provocation and he told me my " white ass wasn't allowed in". I have been to this bar many times and never been treated this horribly.
It was a cool place, but it gets one star because they literally change the total amount on the receipt that you sign when you tab out. I was there on Friday night, it was the start of my night so I was pretty sober when ordering my two rounds of drinks for my friends. My total amount were not even values so I know for sure I didn’t spend an exact $33.00 and $50.00 for my drinks, because I remember writing down the cent values on the bill. However when I checked my bank statement I see these numbers meaning they upped my tab after I signed it without my permission… which I’m pretty sure is illegal.
I’d give this place 0 stars if I could!!! I used the men’s bathroom because the girl’s line was long and the bartender got SO mad and was banging on the stall door for me to open up the door while I was on the toilet before kicking me out. Absolute pervert.
Only non dog friendly bar I can find on west 6th. Not very clear about their dog policy either, drove down there from Domain area for nothing.
The bar was empty/dead, me and my friend group of 10 people were on an 80s themed bar crawl, all dressed up in bright neon, we went to the bar and started dancing outside when there was no one really dancing and hardly any people, then after 20-30 minutes more and more people kept coming in joining us and the bar got packed. Every 5 minutes dif people were coming in to dance with us complimenting our outfits and asking what we were doing. We had locked our bikes up on the fence outside of the bar, there are NO signs saying not to do that anywhere. While dancing we noticed a lady going up and taking pictures of every single bike, we asked her why she was taking those pictures, she lied and said she was “starting her own bike business.” 5 minutes later we were all asked to move our bikes and that we can’t lock them on the sidewalk/fence. They were not in anyone’s way, we were all by them the entire time, and like I said there was zero signage saying we couldn’t. Every other bar we visited on the crawl (9 other spots) allowed us to lock our bikes up on their fences. It felt like the bar was empty and people kept coming in because we were the first and only group dancing. They were fine with us being there when it was empty, but after we got there and got the party started once it was packed suddenly it wasn’t okay anymore? Also who was that weirdo lady taking the pics of our bikes? We absolutely will never go back and do not recommend in the slightest. Trash atmosphere, trash customer service, and overall weird behavior between that weird lady and the bouncers.
the bartender tipped themself more then i had put down, me and my friends when out to the key bar on the weekend, and we where all paying for each other drinks. My bill was $49 and i gave the a $1 tip to make it $50. the bartender gave himself a $10 tip to make it $59. when my friend had gotten drinks she had gotten a $39 bill, my friend had put a $10, to make it $49. but the bartender put a$30 tip for himself, to make that a $69 bill in total. We had other friends who where putting bigger tips. so he didnt mess with there stuff and put bigger tips. Im just hear to say if you go here make sure to watch your bank accnt. and get a receipt as soon as i tip the tip he took the bill and never gave me my receipt and i didnt think anything of it. so that was on me. i did nt have a bad time there the issue i have is putting a bigger tip on something that wasnt supposed to be big. (in total me and my friends had spend over $100 on drinks, and only two of my friends didnt drink because they wanted to make sure we where okay.)
Nice place, but unfortunately some of the worst cocktails. Couldn't make multiple drinks from the menu because there weren't basic ingredients, which was fine. But ordered two margaritas and one was syrupy sweet while the other was salt water. Tried other peoples' cocktails and they weren't great either.
