Little Mexico Austin Reviews
Been coming here for the past 25 yrs. Imma miss this place. Us real southsiders ate at this place. Thank for all your service.
This is a golden spot! A hidden gem I will forever miss the arroz con pollo it tastes just like my Abuela’s. Little Mexico I will keep you in my heart.
Thank you Little Mexico for everything!!! This restaurant has been an Austin staple my entire life and it's with a heavy heart to see your doors closing today! We celebrated my Mom's 50th birthday there almost 2 decades ago and it's a core memory. The Mariachis playing was always a treat, the atmosphere was always happy and uplifting, the food (especially the migas) were always on point!!! Best migas in the world!! I wish y'all could stay open forever. I'm glad I got to eat there one last time during Christmas and New Year's. Thank you for everything and I hope everyone who works there knows they will never be forgotten and forever appreciated 👍🏼! Take care and God bless you all! An OG Austin restaurant. Long live Little Mexico ❤️!!!
Best kept secret on S.1st. It's a must try if you are in the area. They offer quick service and friendly atmosphere. The food is on Paar and reasonably priced!
Very cute and cozy little Mexican restaurant. The server lady was probably the owner too and she was very warm and polite.
I been coming here since the early 90's and I'm always satisfied with my meals and the staff. It's a different environment inside and with Tejano music playing, not like the other places with tvs and sports on. You can sit enjoy your meal and have a good conversation as long you put your phones away. The staff is friendly and it's always clean. They have a room you could rent out for private parties and outside sitting.
The hot sauce is very spicy. The home made tamales tasted like my grand mother’s. The bowl of menudo and fajitas are a bomb. You can see I been there many times.
Got 3 tacos de barbacoa and they were so delicious whine the waitress was also very kind and did a great service! Definitely would recommend coming here.
I’m not sure if that last reviewer was at the same restaurant or not. Our experience today was a 180* different from what they stated. First off, the service was impeccable, they were very attentive, friendly, and courteous. All of the dishes we ordered looked fresh and delicious. I ordered the crispy meat taco, cheese enchilada, pork tamale, with rice and refried beans plate. It was right on point. They served warm chips and great tasting salsa as well. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, in a clean and quaint environment, with outstanding service, then this is the place you’ll want to come to. I highly recommend them, and we’ll be coming back very soon.
Perfect little Mexican restaurant located in South Austin! Their food was delicious and the service was great. I got to try their protein plate and their bacon and egg breakfast taco - both entrees were so good! Their salsa was perfectly spicy, and had such a good flavor. Shoutout to Toni and the rest of the team there - very nice employees!
This place has been here for years very sad to see it go.
We got to the restaurant at approximately 5:52 pm. The food was very good. Everything had good flavor. My husband got the Texas burrito and I Got the fajita nachos. It wasn't too busy. It just seemed to take awhile for our meal. It was about a 40 minute wait. The staff was very nice. Checked on us frequently. The place was decorated really cute.
Every Sunday after a hike we always try to find a spot nearby to have brunch.. Came across this place.. typical Tex-Mex spot, pretty straightforward.. had the protein plate, didn't come with beans, rice, or potatoes, so I had to order those separately.. potatoes could have been crispier.. carne guisada was flavorful and delicious.. I asked for egg whites for my migas and they were happy to accommodate.. I'm a happy camper..
Little Mexico is that classic Mexican place you think of when you think of your home town (if your hometown isn't Austin, of course). It's like they turned a cute little house in to a restaurant. There was plenty of seating for our breakfast and the server was very friendly. We got the Huevos Rancheros and Machacado con Huevo. For the low points... I'm a fan of crispy potatoes at Mexican places. Unfortunately, the potatoes were a little undercooked so a bit crunchy. The ranchero sauce had good flavor but was a tad watery for my taste. Now the high points... Some places have beans that you can drink, but I really like the thicker/chunkier beans here. We also both the red and green salsas which had a good kick. But the true star was the machacado con huevo. The meat to egg to veggie ratio was spot-on. It really made for a great taco when thrown on a tortilla. I look forward to coming back and trying some of their recommended lunch/dinner plates.
There are some places I will just always love and this is one. I don't think they've updated the decor in the 10+ years I've been going. Food is simple, not overdone. Service is bilingual and friendly. Where else can you go to eat and also hear a wedding celebration over a karaoke speaker? Only at Little Mexico!
As soon as I walked thru the door asking if we can sit outside they gave me the most ugliest attitude because I had my Dog with me. The sign on the door says NO PETS ALLOWED ONLY IF IT IS A SERVICE ANIMAL. Which my dog was so they didn’t allow me service due to me bringing my dog. Also as i was walking thru the door the MEAN lady with glasses driving a BMW was already telling us NO we weren’t welcome due to my dog. She was extremely RUDE and very unprofessional She needs to do better. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL
We had high hopes for Little Mexico Restaurant, but unfortunately, it just didn’t live up to expectations. The service was slow from the start, and we were seated in the back of the building—far from the lively front area where there was music, dancing, and what seemed like a great time. Instead, we were in a quiet, empty section that felt a bit forgotten. The food itself was lukewarm and tasted like it came straight from a can—especially the queso, which lacked any freshness or flavor. We ordered fajitas for one, added a queso, and ended up with a $60 bill for two people. Definitely not worth it for what we received. What really caught us off guard was the drink situation. My wife was offered a refill on her Sprite, and they brought another can—but didn’t mention it wasn’t complimentary. At $3 per can, we ended up paying $6 for two canned sodas without warning. That felt a bit sneaky. Overall, it felt overpriced and underwhelming. Nothing tasted fresh or homemade, and the vibe was off. Sadly, we won’t be returning.
