Elizabeth Street Cafe Austin Reviews
We found this place by chance and it is now one of my #1 favorites in Austin! It's easy to find and they have parking in front and off street. We came on a Sunday with no reservations but had no problem getting a seat. It's pretty hot these days and really wasn't sure about sitting outside, but they have misters and fans and now without question, I would always sit outside. Very quaint place with a very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The menu is a bit overwhelming in that everything sounded amazing and we wanted to try so much. We started off with a butter croissant and simply amazing! Very fresh and clearly they make these themselves. We arrived afternoon so all the chocolate croissants were gone but will have to go back and try those. Freshly baked goods are hard to pass up. For an appetizer, we had the Spring Rolls; I had mine with the Marinated Grilled Tofu and my friend had hers with Shrimp. Amazing spring rolls! They were so fresh and delicious. The peanut sauce wasn't quite what I've been used to at Thai restaurants; I don't know if the peanut sauce is different at a Vietnamese restaurant but it was a little bland. But by all means, make sure to have an order of the Spring Rolls. They are epic! For my meal, I had Red Curry Dan Dan Noodles with Chicken, Bok Choy, Sprouts and Thai Basal. First, come hungry because it's a huge bowl. And I hope you like spicy! Not burning your mouth spicy but definitely has some spice to it. What can I say but if I had to come up with my top ten dishes of any food or cuisine, this dish would be on that list (providing it comes from Elizabeth Street Café). The broth was amazing and the ingredients were the freshest ever! From the first bite, I was amazed at just how delicious this mixture of ingredients would be. If you want authentic Vietnamese food, I know of no better place to recommend. If you are tired of the same old food and want something fresh and delicious, you won't regret coming here! We came without reservations but I imagine they are typically busy so I would check before coming. We can't wait to come back and try other items on their menu. We live out west in Spicewood and as that area develops, we hope Elizabeth Street will consider a new location out near us!
Elizabeth Street Cafe is fantastic! The spring rolls were amazing and tasted super fresh! I had the fried rice with red fish. The flavors were great. They do use fish sauce with the fish, so that flavor is present. Next time, I will try it with the steak. My wife had the chicken pho and said it was the best she had. It did taste super! The beinets were the best in the world! Crispy, warm and yummy! I might get 2 orders next time! 👍
Wow. First timers here, and we loved it. From walking up, the inviting nature of the whole place was wholesome. Mark and Allison, yall did amazing tonight with service. BEST BANH MI I've eaten in Austin, HANDS DOWN. The Pho hit the spot on this chilly day, and the drinks quenched the soul. Thank you for a pleasant Monday night, we will be back. Highly recommend this spot!
Elizabeth Street Café is Vietnamese and French. It is a charming and delicious spot, I can’t recommend them enough. It is small with a vibrant environment. The staff are friendly and attentive. Must-haves include: • Da Nang Margarita • 10B Spring Roll — Poached Shrimp, Avocado, Cilantro, Bean Sprouts, Jalapeño, Lime Zest • Broiled Escargots • Crab Noodles • Nutella Eclair
Cute cafe that has some limited parking in front and I was excited to score the last spot. I didn’t have a reservation since I was vicinity for work but was able to grab a nice seat at the bar. The chili ginger dumplings were amazing! I also had the spicy pork meatball banh mi which was just ok. I thought there could be more meatballs. I also ordered the key lime macaroon and the Nutella eclair for later. The eclair was good but the macaroon was great!
Never knew it was Vietnamese Food. Amazing quality. Hands down the Elizabeth Fried Rice Sirloin Steak was perfect. Before going to Elizabeth I went to see Nomad across the street (1st Street) and the energy there was a little too snobby for me. I always go for the underdog!!
Such a cute place with yummy food. Tried it for the first time for a quick lunch but was back here with family the next week. That say’s a lot about the food :). Loved all we have tried so far - noodles, banh mi, spring rolls, fried rice. Casual and comfortable vibes to enjoy some great flavors.
Sunday morning for Vietnamese food?? Yes please! Excellent service and knowledgeable. We had an all vegetarian meal and they were very accommodating. Probably the best meal I had in Austin to be honest. Lots of options. Weekends do get busy so come early. Bao buns are the softest and tender buns. Coconut Chai is delicious, I order one to go as well. This definitely lives up to the hype and I would gladly come back to Austin to eat here.
I'm Vietnamese and this is my first time trying here. Personally I feel like there are some chinese-cuisine inspired, love the little salty Ginger-chili seasoning (you don't need extra sauce).10/10 Ginger-chili dumplings, fried spring rolls , pork-belly steamed buns, steamed rice rolls. The iced Vietnamese coffee needs somes some more condensed milk, it was watery. Love the settings, got inside booth, regular tables, stool tables, outdoor table and outdoor benches( also pet friendly). Sorry no pics bc they are all in my tummy 😝
The pho is flavorful and comforting, the banh mi sandwiches are crisp, fresh, and packed with bold ingredients. Don’t miss the shrimp & pork spring rolls! Everything is thoughtfully prepared and beautifully plated. To top it off, the staff is attentive SHOUT OUT TO JELENA and friendly, and the patio seating is perfect for enjoying Austin’s sunshine. Whether you’re in the mood for a croissant and coffee or a hearty Vietnamese meal, Elizabeth Street Café is always a win.
The Banh Mi sandwiches here are absolutely to die for- I highly recommend trying them! The Pho was okay, could have used more flavor. The atmosphere and service is phenomenal.
After spending the entire day volunteering at TSD, my family and I had a couple of hours to kill between events so we decided to grab a bite to eat. Due to its close proximity to the campus, we were able to easily walk to the restaurant. Upon arriving, the manager was able to accommodate us, even though we did not have a reservation (oops). The entire experience here was amazing, from the manager to the server to the quaint atmosphere and especially to the delicious food! It was the perfect way to compliment the day. Will definitely be back the next time I’m in town.
Elizabeth Street Café is an absolute delight! This charming spot offers a unique blend of French and Vietnamese flavors that work together beautifully. The ambiance is vibrant and cozy, with a chic, welcoming decor that instantly puts you in a good mood. The food is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The pho and banh mi are outstanding, packed with authentic flavors and crafted with such attention to detail. The pastries are a must—light, flaky, and the perfect sweet treat to end your meal. Service here is friendly and attentive, making the whole experience feel warm and personalized. Whether you're in for brunch, lunch, or dinner, Elizabeth Street Café promises a memorable dining experience every time. Highly recommend for anyone who loves inventive, delicious cuisine in a stylish setting!
Elizabeth Street Cafe is a culinary gem that left me thoroughly impressed. The appetizers set the tone for an exceptional meal, with the poached shrimp spring rolls offering a fresh start and the pork belly buns stealing the show with their unbelievably soft texture. The main courses were equally delightful, featuring a perfect pairing of Singapore noodles and red curry noodles that offered contrasting yet complementary experiences - the former a satisfying dry noodle dish, while the latter consisted of a comforting brothy soup. The restaurant's attention to detail extends beyond the food, with craft cocktails that are as visually stunning as they are delicious. The quick and friendly service enhanced the overall experience, and the charming, fun decor created a delightful ambience. Elizabeth Street Cafe is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience that seamlessly blends flavors, presentation, and atmosphere.
Everything we had here was delicious, but I wouldn't call this place a Vietnamese restaurant, its more of a fusion. The banh mi is just a sandwich labeled as a banh mi, but it was a delicious sandwich. We also had the shrimp steamed rice rolls, which ended up being my favorite dish. The sauce was the perfect balance of flavors, and the crispy puffed rice added a nice texture.
Chili oil dumplings and beef drunken noodles were the winners of the meal. The flavor on the noodles were some of the best I’ve had in Austin. Pork belly buns and spring rolls were also solid. The crepe (which is really like a scallion pancake) was also a winner. The beignets for the dessert were fresh and delicious.
We tried drunken Beef Noodles and Scallion Noodles, and they were delicious. The restaurant's ambiance is charming, and the menu is a fusion of Vietnamese and French cuisine. But I am a dessert person, so I, of course, tried theirs as well. And I have to tell you, you need to try the beignets. They were so good! I would definitely recommend Elizabeth Street Cafe to anyone for a very aesthetic brunch and delightful meal!
Elizabeth St Café has exceptional Vietnamese cuisine and a very interesting menu. The restaurant has been busy both times I’ve been and it was hard to get a table - however the wait is worth it. The spring rolls are the best I’ve had and there are a few different types to choose from. We went with the poached shrimp and avocado which comes with three tasty dipping sauces. We also tried the wonton soup, chili wontons, bao buns, vermicelli bowl and Dan Dan noodles. The wonton soup was fantastic and a good size for one as an appetizer. The vermicelli bowls are well balanced and delicious, I would recommend adding a boiled egg as well. Finally the Dan Dan noodles are the ultimate ramen type dish complete with a spicy broth, bean sprouts, chicken and cilantro. Overall the food was exceptional and I would 100% recommend coming here if you can get a reservation!
My partner and I got take out from here. It was fast. The vegan options slap! The tofu and mushroom bun mi and bun are amazing! On my sandwich, I always swap mushrooms for avocado and’s it’s one of my favorites. It’s creamy, crusty and a tad spicy. I’ve eaten inside many times too. It’s adorable inside! Although, this place gets super loud. It becomes quite hard to hear your table.
This is a lovely little restaurant with fresh, delicious food. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, the service is attentive and friendly, and the food is actually worth the price, which I honestly find to be a rare occurrence in Austin these days. This strikes me as both a great date spot and a chill lunch/dinner spot for catching up with a friend. Treat yourself and come here :)
Very cute French/ Vietnamese Cafe. I ordered a shrimp sandwich with vegetables, dairy-free cold Vietnamese coffee and a macron ( not pictured.) The sandwich was fresh and delicious. The macaron was okay and the coffee was delicious. This place is located in south Austin and worth the drive.
Always an Austin favorite. The food is superb! Service is always excellent and the drinks are too. A bit noisy with loud music trying to compete with diners trying to talk above it, so having a conversation at your table can be challenging, but don’t let that stop you. It’s 5 star all the way. Parking in the lot is tight so you might end up parking on the street but it’s free and you can usually find a spot close. This is a favorite spot for us for special occasions - this time it was an early birthday and Mother’s Day treat.
Visiting from DFW - this place is amazing. Caiman gave the best hospitality!! Was deceived by yelp reviews. So glad we came and had the best food. Will 1,000% be coming here again. Thank you caiman for the best service in ATX. There
Elizabeth’s Street Cafe is a charming, personality-filled restaurant with friendly service and delicious food. My favorite dish is the Vietnamese wonton soup. It has just the right amount of spice and well-balanced flavors, making it the perfect dish when you need a comforting meal. I’m also a fan of the spicy chicken crunch spring rolls. They are packed with flavor and are always a delight. Overall, Elizabeth’s Street Cafe is a fantastic restaurant. Try to get there early, as there is usually a wait later in the afternoon. The only downside is that on my last visit, the chicken in my fried rice was burnt.
Brunch was amazing! It was our first time here, so the staff explained the menu to help us decide. They were very considerate when it came to allergies and went to check with the kitchen before submitting our order. They even helped us take a photo after our meal. 100% would recommend and definitely will go back!!
The best Vietnamese food in Austin, I think. The menu has something for everyone! My only complaint is that brunch runs so late I can never get my favorite dish at lunch (Larb, which is the best in town) but their pork Bahn Mi is also good so I get it instead. At brunch, my husband enjoys the Singapore Noodles without shrimp and my kid adores the house baked brioche French toast. The steamed rice rolls are also a family favorite. The indoor space can get loud and dining at a communal table is common. The outdoor seating is not very comfortable, the furniture could use some repairs (the wire seat backs are unusable). Whatever you do, don’t leave without having a macaron (flavors change regularly).
The sheer number of positive, high-ranking reviews should honestly speak to the quality of Elizabeth Street Cafe. We came for a weekday lunch and were impressed with the ambience, server, and both the quality of the food and the size of the portions. The cafe is a cute little spot with open, bright lighting and lots of seating. Our server was polite, attentive, and made some great recommendations for our meal. We started off with the Shrimp and Yam fritters. These were perfectly crunchy and came with a tasty Nuac Cham sauce. We then split the Bun bowl with Grilled Marinated Pork and the Red Curry Dan Dan Noodles. The Bun bowl was light, refreshing, and had lots of veggies. The pork had a great marinade with a real depth of the Vietnamese flavor. I think the Dan Dan Noodles was our favorite dish though. The red curry broth was deeeeelicious and brought the entire dish together. I really should come here more often to try more of their amazing food.
This restaurant is definitely a charming spot for a great Vietnamese breakfast with French notes. I really like their menu, and it is undoubtedly one of the best places for Sunday brunch. Be ready for a wait if you plan to visit on weekends because it is a really popular place. We ordered Bahn Mi #23, a truly delicious sandwich with pork belly in a soft and crispy house-baked baguette. We also ordered Pho 30A, which was delicious, and the broth was full of flavor. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate eclair and paired it with Mocha and Vietnamese Coffee. If you have a taste for condensed milk, be sure to try the Vietnamese Coffee – it's sure to please your palate.
Amazing Vietnamese fusion spot! My husband is vegetarian and loved his pho. I had the sticky rice and sausage dish and it did not disappoint! Cocktails and coffees were on point and our server was delightful. Only drawback is how loud it gets, I could hardly hear my husband throughout brunch. Will definitely come back !
Came here to celebrate my 5 year wedding anniversary with my husband and we had the most delicious meal. The service was excellent. Our server greeted us with a handwritten card to celebrate our anniversary, along with a complimentary champagne toast. However, my husband and I don't drink alcohol. So instead of the champagne toast, they gave us dessert to celebrate. So thoughtful! We started with the Green Mango & Cucumber Salad. It was incredibly refreshing and addictive! I had the Marinated Flank Steak Bahn Mi sandwich. It was mouthwateringly delicious, and the bread was so soft and lovely. My husband had the Elizabeth Street Fried Rice with the crispy redfish for his protein. He really enjoyed it! We finished off with the Beignets. These were to die for! The raspberry lychee jam was my favorite of the two jams provided, but they were both delicious! I forgot to take photos of the fried rice and the mango cucumber salad, but they were both beautifully plated!
The fact that I wasn’t at all regretful about paying $18 for a Banh Mi should tell you everything you need to know! Places like this cafe are what make the Austin food scene so versatile and superior. The baguettes are made fresh in house daily- I’d HIGHLY recommend the salt & pepper shrimp Banh Mi as well as the Tiger Lily cocktail. All the staff made us feel at home and we couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience.
Can't believe I haven't tried this place in my 6 years here in ATX. This is now one of my top 5 restaurants in Austin. The chili dumplings were fire and the Singapore noodles to die for. I can't wait to come back and try something new. 5 stars!!!
Last summer my wife & I went to ELIZABETH STREET CAFE and had a great experience. The dinning room was cozy & clean, we sat at the bar, shared an appetizer & enjoyed a couple of fantastic BAHN MI sandwiches... I'm a big fan of Bahn mi & have to say the bread they used was phenomenal. I'm told that they. source their bread from SWEDISH HILL BAKERY.
was in town a few days and stopped by for lunch and it was soooo good! as you can tell from the pics, we could barely photograph anything, the apps were gone! ban mi bread was so soft. the breakfast Singapore was crispy on the edges, like no Singapore I've ever had before. I got an almond croissant and ended up eating it the next morning, slightly warmed and it was buttery goodness. the raspberry macaroons were delicious as well. I will definitely be back! Update: I returned to Austin and had to pop in. everything was as delicious as I remembered. I even took friends with me and they were impressed. 2 days in a row I visited. and even brought food back with me to Houston. Elizabeth's is officially an Austin staple for me.
Couldn't find a table last time because of a long wait and a busy schedule. But I'm glad I gave it another chance. I got to the restaurant on Friday for lunch and only waited around 15 minutes to sit down. Everything from the cocktails to the spring rolls and bahn mi was great. The spicy green mango and cucumber salad was incredibly refreshing on a hot Austin afternoon (I was seated on the patio). The beignets were the perfect way to end it off, I think they were fried croissant dough it was a little different than the beignets that I've had before and a really welcome change. Worth the experience and the price. I'll be back on a rainy day to try the pho.
The best brunch Asian cuisine. We’ve been craving for Asian food and we are not disappointed. Everything that we ordered is amazing and in good quality. My only suggestion is the Thai coffee should be more flavorful compared to what I’ve been tried. We recommend to try this restaurant, The vibe is really relaxing and cool. ❤️
My family and I visited a couple of Saturdays a go to celebrate my 20 year old daughter's birthday. We did not have a reservation, and the restaurant was busy with serving lunch. We waited close to an hr but being that is Austin and most restaurants are usually busy for lunch We decided to wait. The wait stuff was very friendly and accommodating and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They felt bad for us waiting longer than the usual and more than made up with complementary appetizers and some dessert at the end. And btw the salads, Pho and Vietnamese sandwiches were so delicious! We will visit again soon!
Warm cozy inviting Vietnamese that is actually a lot more with its pan-Asian offerings. Definitely will visit again!
Absolutely loved this place. Very flavorful pho broth, amazing flavor on the tofu. Very soft, perfectly fried. Great portions!
No doubt my favourite place in Austin, we were here a year ago and came back and everything is delicious
Charming place with delicious food and decent service. The staff's outfits are the same dress in various colors which is so cute. The spring rolls were very fresh and tasty as was the pho. Many different seating options including inside, outside and at the cafe bar. Outside seating requires a bit more of a wait. Will definitely return!
Having a private event? Rent the Croissant Room at Elizabeth Street Café! From the start, working with the MML team was a delight. Preparation was clear and made easy. The day of the event went off without a hitch! The team at Elizabeth Street Café really go the extra mile to make things just right. We loved having both the inside and outside spaces--it really made the event feel open. And the food and drinks were fantastic! And really, this is a huge shout out to the entire team for making it extra special. We had the best time and I highly recommend renting the Croissant Room for your next event!
We visited Austin TX & got stuck in the ice storm this weekend. This place made our extra day here so much better. The Pho was delicious. Best pho broth I’ve had anywhere! We also got some crispy rolls & it came with plenty of fresh herbs & lettuces. The nước chấm dipping sauce reminded me of my mom’s! DELICIOUS food!!!! Lovely packaging. Thank you so much.
The experience is always top notch! Highest quality food and service. I’ve also ordered recently through DoorDash and appreciate the staff taking taking the time to follow-up if there is ever an issue with the order, and going above and beyond to make things right if necessary. Kudos to the entire staff and thank you for the excellent service!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Elizabeth Café is an absolute gem! I stopped in recently and was blown away by how warm, charming, and perfectly “Austin” this spot feels. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, the service is quick, and everything on the menu tastes fresh and thoughtfully made. The vibes are cozy, bright, and just make you want to stay awhile. My food and coffee were both perfect — full of flavor and beautifully presented. You can tell they really care about quality here. Whether you’re grabbing a quick breakfast, meeting a friend, or just want a relaxing café to unwind, Elizabeth Café hits every mark. Highly recommend! I’ll definitely be coming back. 🌿☕️
We’ve been wanting to try this place for some time and yesterday we finally had the chance. We came in for Happy Hour on Thursday and ordered the Rice Paper Rolls (Crispy Chicken), Chili Oil Dumplings, Steamed Rice Rolls, and Drunken Noodles. All dishes were great! Kai our server provided amazing service and made some great recommendations for us first timers..we’d come back for the service alone!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. The food is just so good. We’ve tried so many things on the menu and have loved it all. Only complaint is service and be a little slow and the seating is tight because it’s a small restaurant but the rest of the experience makes up for it. If you’re looking for great Vietnamese food in the Austin area, this is the spot.
Authentic, Flavorful, and Unforgettable Elizabeth Vietnamese Restaurant nails it with bold, authentic flavors and a cozy, inviting vibe. Every dish feels thoughtfully crafted—fresh, vibrant, and deeply satisfying. The Paloma with a mezcal twist was a highlight: refreshing, smoky, and perfectly balanced. I enjoyed a relaxed afternoon on the patio with my dog, and it was pure bliss. Can’t wait to come back!
We’re visiting Austin and all of us agree that Elizabeth Street has been our favorite meal. The spring rolls, chili oil dumplings, Singapore noodles, steak fried rice, chocolate mousse and croissant beignets were all amazing. Our server, Anna, was great. The atmosphere is lovely. Definitely worth a visit or ten.
LOVED everything about Elizabeth st cafe!!!All the servers were very friendly, and kept checking in on us. The decor and atmosphere was immaculate especially with all the outdoor seating for a sunny day. And of course the food was all delicious. A good menu with a lot to choose from including banh mi and pho, but we went for summer rolls, fried rice rolls and grilled fish bun vermicelli bowl. They were all delicious! 10/10! A good majority of the menu was also gluten-free friendly.

Love the location and ambience of the restaurant. Thou the outdoor area is facing two roads, it still feels tucked in and relatively quiet. We ordered crispy chicken rolls. That was tasty and love the dipping sauce came with it! We also ordered Singapore noodles and Banh Mi, both were just Ok. The noodles are on the oily side and not enough vegetables and curry powder. Banh Mi was rather bland. I’ll probably come back and try the pastry next time. Dog is allowed on the patio which is a bonus.
Lovely experience, happy hour saves a few bucks and the appetizers were excellent especially the pork belly buns and fried egg rolls. Also enjoyed the lavender gin cocktail and Singapore noodles. Only thing I’ll change next time is the pho for a bahn mi, prefer a more savory broth.
Really enjoyed the vibe and ambience of this place. It's a cute cafe with beautiful wallpapers and decor. We got the hibiscus cocktail, crunchy chicken rolls, pork belly bun and Dan dan noodles. The drink was average, pork belly was decent but the crunch chicken rice paper rolls were really good. They were fresh and loved the sauces that came with it. The dan dan noodles were definitely not dan dan. This came with some curry flavored broth, it felt more like ramen. Nevertheless we enjoyed it
Cute little spot! The service was great and the food was fresh. It’s an interesting take on the Vietnamese cuisine - it’s very modernized but the flavors still come through well. Tried a few different plates, and while they were all good, nothing stood out as “spectacular”. I’d definitely visit again to continue trying other dishes.
Accommodating with reservations adjustments. Small space but very cute vibe. Love the 4-5 options for spring rolls. We got the shrimp and it tasted so fresh. The reimagined Singapore noodles was top notch. A fresh twist on the classic that was inspiring, yet still gives you that familiarity of the OG dish. Plenty of flavors and the pork was so tender and moist. Banh Mi was on point. Pretty glad to have gone here for our last meal on this trip. Thumbs up!
This place was tasty. The spring rolls were super good with the lettuce wrap (a little salty but the lettuce helped even it out). The lemon grass chicken pho was unique and good with the chicken wrapped around the lemongrass but the pho broth was nothing crazy with flavor. The banh mi was good. Very small place and you feel like you’re on top of the table sitting next to you and long wait because of how popular it is.
This place is one of my favorite places to eat. Love the food and the atmosphere. Always a great meal. Makrut Lime Fried Chicken (Bún) is my favorite dish… you must try and use all of the sauce ask for a second sauce😉 The spicy chicken crunch was also very good I love the different dipping sauces.
First time and loved the food! Service was great too! Wow exceeded all my expectations. Only complaint is the noise. While vibrant is a great thing it was almost inaudible to have a meaningful conversation inside.
The dumplings were good, but I felt they were very one dimensional in terms of texture. Seemed like the line cook was afraid of using all his mise before service (unfortunately this is quite prevalent in a lot of restaurants) so my dish got skimped. The carpaccio was quite excellent, although for the price point I’d really love to have some grilled bread along with it. The shishitos could have forgone a harder char. Finally, the banh mi. I appreciate its authenticity, the bread was spectacular and the flavor was on point, but the line cook forgot the jalepenos and that really wasn’t nice. The carrots could’ve been pickled longer but overall a solid 7.2/10. I hope yall take my review to consideration, I’ve been a long time supporter of y’all’s banh mi and I don’t want to steer my fellow peers in the wrong direction if you’re not able to retain your quality. Also our server should’ve had more help from her fellow FOH staff. Great meal, although expensive, I will gladly return to this beautiful establishment.
We were there early on a Sunday morning & the food was VERY slow coming out. We were having a nice conversation & had the time to linger but if we had been in any kind of hurry it would have been a problem. Waitstaff was attentive & kind. The food was amazing! There are only three parking places in their lot and limited parking in the surrounding neighborhoods so definitely either ride share or allow time to locate a parking place.
Happy Hour Review :) I decided to take advantage of their 1/2 off appetizer HH special so I ordered their seared flank (which was a fresh summer roll), steamed rice rolls, broiled escargot, and beef carpaccio. The flank steak was probably the biggest disappointment. First of all I think it should be made more clearly that it is a summer roll. Luckily our waitress told us and we thought it was still worth a try. The amount of vermicelli/salad to flank ratio was ridiculous (see photo attached). The sauces did make up for it, but I think this dish would be significantly better if there was double or even triple the amount of meat. Some more authentic greens would be great as well (perilla leaves, cilantro, mint, etc). In my opinion, the rest of what we ordered made up for it. The steamed rolls were great, the beef carpaccio was well balanced with just the right amount of acidity, and the escargot was buttery and delicious. Please note that my review is also based off of what I paid for during HH. The regular menu prices are pretty high, and I’d say if you have decent standards for Vietnamese food, it is extremely atypical as most delicious Vietnamese cuisine does not cost this much. I’d say you’d be mainly paying for ambience and vibes since the interior (and patio) is really cute :)!!
The food is excellent. A few of us had to banh mi and one had a vermicelli bowl, and all of it was fantastic! Main problem with the atmosphere is something they probably can't fix, which is that it's extremely loud. We had five people at a table and literally had to almost yell to be able to hear each other. For many people this wouldn't be an issue, but it made for a less than relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a great meal. Don't get me wrong: I highly recommend Elizabeth St for the food, but I would recommend either sitting outside if the weather is nice or planning to have a small group.
I’ve been coming here for at least 5yrs. I usually get the same mushroom Pho because it’s ridiculously good! My favorite part is the unique variety of mushrooms it includes. However, I just went and ordered the same Pho as usual but it only included sliced Bella mushrooms. What a let down that was. Maybe is the economy…everyone is making changes to keep profit margins. I get it. But this soup has lost its hold on me. Now, the shrimp roll appetizer is amazing as always!
The spring rolls, pork belly buns, Saints and Sunsets mocktails, and Opera cake were delicious. My friend really liked her fried rice. I ordered the banh cuon, and although it was tasty with very authentic flavors, the steamed rice batter itself was quite thick. Pro: You get full really fast on just the dough. Con: You miss out on the tasty pork fillings, and like me, if you're visiting from out of town and staying at a hotel, you have to leave behind half the dish because you can't take back leftovers.
We went to dinner as a group of nine and arrived without a reservation. Even so, we were seated quickly (at separate tables), which worked out perfectly since the restaurant filled up shortly after. The place is very nice, especially the terrace. The weather was great and the area is calm, with little traffic, making the atmosphere very pleasant. The service was excellent. Our waiter, Mark, gave us great recommendations and was very attentive. We started with the buns (the order comes with two, but they added an extra one), had the grilled chicken thigh banh mi with generous portions, and finished with the drunken beef noodles. The beef was delicious and flavorful, though it is spicy — something they let you know in advance. Overall, a great experience and a place I would definitely visit again.
Visited Elizabeth Street Café with a friend and had a really nice experience. The place itself is beautiful and cozy, and the staff was polite and welcoming, which made the visit even more enjoyable. We ordered the Ginger-Chili Oil Dumplings, Spicy Chicken Crunch Spring Rolls, Mushroom & Tofu Bun, and Chicken Banh Mi. The Chicken Banh Mi and the Dumplings were absolutely amazing and full of flavor — easily the highlights of the meal. The Spring Rolls and Mushroom & Tofu Bun were decent but felt more on the average side compared to the standout dishes. We also tried their French Toast, and it was excellent — perfectly cooked, flavorful, and definitely something I’d recommend trying. Overall, Elizabeth Street Café offers a great combination of good food, pleasant ambience, and friendly service. I’d happily come back again, especially for the Banh Mi, Dumplings, and French Toast. Must-try: Chicken Banh Mi, Ginger-Chili Oil Dumplings & French Toast
Elizabeth Street Cafe on South Lamar in Austin is a culinary delight, masterfully blending the sophistication of French cuisine with the bold flavors of Vietnamese heritage. The ambiance echoes this fusion, creating a unique and captivating atmosphere. The Vietnamese wonton soup, a creative reinterpretation of the classic French onion soup, was a highlight of our visit. Rich, comforting, and perfectly suited to a chilly evening, it showcased the cafe's ability to reimagine familiar dishes with unexpected flair. The Bahn Coun was a testament to the kitchen's skill, with tender, expertly cooked meat and a harmonious balance of textures and flavors. Each component was carefully crafted to elevate the dish as a whole. Dessert was a symphony of refined indulgence: the macarons were delicate, nuanced confections, while the chocolate sesame puff was a sublime marriage of crispy, nutty, and rich elements, a true tour de force of textural contrast and flavor pairing. Overall, Elizabeth Street Cafe delivers a distinctive and captivating dining experience, one that will appeal to adventurous palaters and those seeking a sophisticated take on traditional flavors.
My husband and I visited Elisabeth Street Café on a Sunday for a late lunch, and street parking nearby was easy to find. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and, since we had a reservation, promptly shown to our table. The tables are set quite close together - so, at times when the noise level is not deafening, it kind of feels like a large banquet table as one can overhear conversations from nearby guests. Overall, I had two main concerns during our visit: Noise level: the restaurant was extremely loud. Voices from a large table carried throughout the room, making it difficult to hear my husband even when sitting directly across from him. The atmosphere became uncomfortable, and I would recommend that management consider adding sound-absorbing panels to help balance the acoustics. Food spiciness: while the flavors were bold, the redfish dish was overwhelmingly spicy. I usually tolerate heat quite well, but this level of spice left me with severe reflux, which is very uncommon for me. It would be helpful if the staff asked guests about their spice tolerance before serving dishes prepared with such intensity. Elisabeth Street Café has great potential, with a lovely ambiance and attentive service, but addressing the noise and spice-level concerns would make the dining experience much more enjoyable.
The food was outstanding, a solid 50/10. The presentation, dish choices, flavors, and temperature were all amazing. However, the service left much to be desired. I initially thought I could give them the benefit of the doubt, considering they were transitioning into dinner service, but I was never offered anything to drink beyond the water that their attentive busser provided. Even though I was dining alone, I had to encourage a family of three to seek out their server. The inattentiveness of the staff was frustrating, and I can't honestly recommend this place for a dining experience but I would for take out.

Full circle moment for our lunch with our UT grad. We started her time at UT here with dinner for her 20th birthday and came back for lunch on grad day. Love this place. Good good and very friendl…
This review is for the lunch and not the brunch which closes at 2 pm. The lunch was ok, I would say definitely overpriced for the quantity and taste. There are plenty of Vietnamese places or Asian fusion places with much lower prices. The service was a little all over the place, they got the spring rolls first and the coffee later because they forgot. Then the food wasn't delivered on time either. I have heard good reviews about the brunch and the French toast but I can't confirm. The Vietnamese coffee was amazing though, and so were the spring rolls. The place is nice and well maintained but I wish the food was better. They also serve bakery items. The twice cooked pork was really salty, definitely avoid that.
I really wanted to like this place more. The patio was nice and the spring rolls were good. Unfortunately, we were unsatisfied with all of the other dishes that we had. The dumplings were very underwhelming and out of the 4 people in our party, none of us were able to eat the noodle seafood dish. The banh mi was ok. Our server was super nice but the service was overall extremely slow when the restaurant was not busy
We had not been to Elizabeth Street Cafe in over a year and back then it was decent. It was not authentic Vietnamese food, but the food had decent flavors and textures. Last night it was subpar and far too pricy. The rice paper wrapping on the Steamed Rice Rolls ($17) was too watery. Next we tried the Green Mango and Cucumber Salad ($14). Since I do not eat meat, we asked for the beef jerky to be served on the side. It came with the beef jerky on the salad. The sauce was too sweet without any spicy element. We ended our meal with Szechuan Redfish ($26) and were not able to finish this dish due to the texture. The accompanying rice was dry and hard as if it was a day old. The fish had a slimy consistency and tasted like it was battered in old white flour and fried in old oil a day before and then warmed up. It was not crispy at all, nor fresh. For $26, I would assume they would serve crispy, fresh, hot fish in larger pieces. Not something that tasted like it was made yesterday. The accompanying sauce was one dimensional and too peppery even for me. Our server deducted 25% from all of the items on our check. Honestly the whole meal was not worth half that. The ambiance is cute, but it gets too loud inside with all of the tables approximately 6" apart and hard surfaces everywhere. We will probably not come back. There are better Vietnamese restaurants in town.
The food is great, cocktails are delicious, but you’ll be shouting at your friends across the table because the acoustics inside are horrible. Leaves you gritting your teeth with ringing ears. If they can fix that, it’s a winning spot.
I’m accustomed to family run Vietnamese restaurants. This hipster cafe is notable for its long waiting times and high prices. $16 for miso based vegetarian pho plus $6 more to add 2 pieces of tofu…
As a regular to-go orderer, I was excited to dine in. My rating has nothing to do with the food but everything to do with the waitress rounding my change back down because she decided herself that I was going to tip anyways. I paid in cash. I'm an extremely generous tipper, but the principal that you would just assume I don't need my change is absolutely appalling to me.
Don’t come here if you actually enjoy Vietnamese food. The restaurant itself and the ambiance are very cute and trendy. The lattes were nothing special but the apps were good (the green mango cucumber salad honestly was incredible). That’s where the positives end. The Vietnamese dishes were so poorly executed that my husband and I actually looked up if the founders/owners were even Asian (surprise, they’re white men). They should be ashamed of themselves for making such a mockery of Vietnamese food while charging the prices they do. The Bún bò Huế literally tasted like spaghetti. The meats were so tough and all the complex flavors were missing— same for the beef pho. Shockingly bad for how long we waited for it to come out. Seeing only white people there should’ve been a sign. Not to mention the multiple huge dogs we kept seeing people bring into the restaurant. I truly don’t understand the raving reviews and have to assume they’re from people who think Panda Express is good Chinese food.
Beautiful place, full of tasteless food claiming to be Vietnamese 😕 Vietnam is known for its rich, yet light, aromatic umami food that brings complexity and depth while maintaining simple, light and refreshing. The food here really didn’t bring the flavors I know and love, being Vietnamese. I’ve had Bánh mì far better out of trucks, If you want to try Banh mi that is really Vietnamese, please got to Baguette House on North Lamar. Or Cơm Tấm Pa Phi. Pho from Pho Dan is also a great pick. The chicken Pho was underwhelming :( and very bland. There was no Vietnamese pickled vegetables in my sandwhich. And if there was Pa Te I didn’t taste it. It just makes me sad because to me Vietnamese food is so special, and they are boasting of having authentic Vietnamese food with Vietnamese names but just aren’t executing it and slandering what Vietnamese food really is. I’m assuming the good reviews are from people who don’t eat Vietnamese Food. Despite appetizing visuals; the flavor didn’t suffice or measure up
The food was really lacking for the price. $22 for a bowl of Pho. The pho broth was really bland, and the beef was very scarce. The broth was very hot which was good. But overall it was really lacking. For those who know Pho and appreciate quality Pho, this isn’t for you. To be honest it’s probably some of the most average pho I’ve had. Saved only by the atmosphere. Restaurant Atmosphere and service were lovely.
waited 30 min for a to-go bahn mi with 2 small half pieces of pork in there, girl at the front was pretty rude by saying "here ya go" and nothing else after 30-45 minute wait even when I said thanks have a great day so I had asked to see a manager which she rolled her eyes at me for, 5 employees and the manager stand right in front of me and the manager ask the issue while they clearly overhearing us... had to be the one to take the conversation more off to the side. After around a decade giving them business because it's down the street, I won't be coming back. 2 stars because its nice if you wanna sit down and have a "Vietnamese" taster course and don't care about the price. If you can't handle to-go service, than don't offer. If you guys are going for world record smallest bahn mi portion for highest price, than keep doing what you are doing
Our group's initial visit presented some challenges due to the unfamiliar layout and ordering process within the establishment. Several members of our party experienced inaccuracies in their orders, despite specific requests for modifications. Additionally, I was not informed about the 10% to-go fee at the time of my order. I perceived a degree of bias based on my appearance, which led to the impression that my patronage was not as valued. I have a lot of piercings and tattoos and felt like I was looked down upon. My yogurt and berries were served in a box, contrasting with the bowls I observed being used for other customers. Furthermore, we were asked to vacate the patio area while we were in the process of eating our meal, which was handled in a manner that felt less than welcoming. Jade, however, provided excellent service and was very helpful. (Finally had some of my food and it was not good at all. Very bland. Yogurt and berries tasted ok, but its hard to mess that up.)
If you are Asian don’t go there, 100% you won’t like it. I order Phò for my kids and parents, they all said the broth test like power mix. My kids not even eat it after one bite. They also said the noodles is over cook it is too soft. My husband got pan fried noodles OMG it is too salty we can’t eat it at all. The service is good and the Banh Mi is good, that is the reason I give them one star. Also this place is over price.
worst phở i’ve ever had. if you come here please order something else. Genuinely atrocious. Please change chefs or recipes or whatever, or stop calling yourself a viet restaurant if the phở is this bad. Not even mediocre. It was just plain terrible 💀💀💀💀💀
