Tarka Indian Kitchen Austin Reviews
Tarka is hands down my favorite spot in town, but Luis is the reason I keep coming back! The food is always a consistent 5/5, but the service Luis provides is next level. He’s incredibly fast, super friendly, and knows the menu so well he can practically order for you. He handled our checkout with such great energy and truly kept the vibes immaculate. If you're stopping by, pray that Luis is on shift!
I’m new to Austin and was pleasantly surprised by how much my family liked this place. It’s a casual restaurant which comes in handy when going out with two little kids who are starving. We ordered, sat down, the kids food came out first which was helpful, the lemonade that came with the kids meal was so yummy. My girls got the chicken strips and fries. The fries usually come with spices on them but because we hadn’t tried them before I had the spices put on the side just in case. The quality was really good and it was a great price for a kids meal. My husband and I both ordered the Tikka Masala, medium heat and it was delicious. The flavors were great and the garlic naan was very good. I recommend ordering more naan than you think because it’s just that good. Will be returning and had a great first experience.
Tarka is hands down my favorite Indian cuisine spot! I use the app often and love the rewards, it makes coming back even easier. I usually eat here every few weeks (and honestly would even more if it was closer!). The value for the price is excellent, my orders are always accurate, and the food is consistently delicious. The staff is also always so friendly, welcoming, and happy, it makes the whole experience even better.
It's a very nice place, with good menu and friendly staff and enough of seating for 30+. It's not very noisy, and you can find a seat to feel comfortable either on the chairs or the couches. There are tables for groups. I liked the food and loved the Indian chai and will definitely go there again for the chai and the gulab jaman (desert).
Great food! Amazing staff! Lissett, Luis, Alejandra and Berenice, along with the amazing chefs, runners! They’re always so nice, willing to help and walk me through any questions I might have. They keep the place clean and welcoming! I’m here every week😂😫 Keep up the great work guys!! These pics are different times in same week😂😂🥰
I had dinner here a few days ago and the food was excellent. The naan was warm and the lamb tender. The fries were good but I don’t think I’d order them again since there’s other starter options that seem better. There’s plenty of vegetarian options so it’s great for anyone. 10/10 recommend and will be back
I can only speak for the North Cross location, which I have been eating at for over 5 years. Is the food more like fast Indian food for non-indian people? Yes! But as a white girl who needs the occasional quick meal, I love it. Also, I accidentally ordered from the wrong location and didn't realize until I came to pick up. Without missing a beat, the cashier entered my order in so I wouldn't have to drive across town to get my food and they took care of me.
Tarka's food is tasty, but inconsistent. Once the menu offered - and we ordered - Gobi Manchurian: it was delicious, but it has never available again (if it was, we'd order it again). Most recently, the Chana Masala tasted flat and apparently had no cardamom, although cardamom is an essential ingredient (but it is expensive!). Tarka offers spice level customization and vegetarian/vegan options, but those entrees are very starch heavy - mostly potatoes and beans. The two fresh salads offered aren't vegetarian/vegan. However, you can always order a $3 side of raw veggies or kabob veggies. We enjoy and appreciate the rice with added cumin seed and the vegan lassis.
Fast and affordable Indian food without sacrificing great taste. We really enjoy it for lunch when we want some curry, but don't want to spend the time or money for a full service meal. The Vindaloo and Yellow Dahl are our favorites.
Tried this place for the first time and will be going back. The food was robust and flavorful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was a fan of the outdoor seating as well. Update: Been back a few times and tried different dishes. They're consistent with flavor but they have no concept of mild. My mouth is on fire every time but I keep coming back 😅
We love TARKA! Mind you, the spice level overall is not as high as a typical Indian restaurant. It is more catered towards to a western palate but the flavor is bomb. We had food here countless times and each time, the quality of the food is amazing. Clean, fresh and biggest of all - NOT GREASY!
Tried Tarka Indian kitchen for the first time, and enjoyed their paneer korma and garlic naan. Love how they have small portion size for curries and biriyani in kids menu.. felt like Biriyani was high on turmeric. It was ok, not the authentic biriyani. However the ambiance was good with Indian music playing in the background, minimum wait time and great taste.
Tried this place on my 2nd day in Austin. The ambiance was good, the music did set a mood. They had one of the best chicken korma I have had. Creamy with a perfect balance of a lot of flavors. The menu allows combination of curries with different proteins. Would recommend for a filling, savory meal.
I actually ordered my food delivery and we absolutely love this place and the food is always excellent but this time my food was way way too spicy and any other time I ordered it medium spice it's never that hot so they must have gave me the hot or extreme hot and there was only like three little tiny pieces of chicken in one of my dishes. We spent a lot and I was so disappointed with the portions and how extremely spicy it was. Almost inedible for us but it was late so there wasn't really time to try to take it up there and return it for a refund before they closed. Not sure I will return again since it was about $70 waste of food!
I ordered a vegetable biryani extra hot among other dishes, I got a half filled box of spiced rice and no vegetables, it was not even mildly spicy. Probably the worst vegetarian biryani ever. The delivery cost me about $15 for this waste of food.
The food was a disaster for me and my friends. Some people may like it but its too bland for an indian person. I ordered a medium spice paneer tikka masala, it was too sweet and was like tomato greavy with paneer pieces. Then I ordered a extra spicy mirchi masala curry, that was not a flavorful spice. Its more like a raw mirchi kind of spice. The paneer biryani I ordered was more like a paneer pulav. The cumin taste was too overpowering in it. My entire food experience was like american versions of the indian menu. Tbh I dont recommend it to any person who wants authentication indian food, as its spice levels and flavors are not on par with many other restaurants in austin and round rock areas. The service and atmosphere was really silent and peaceful though.
DO NOT EAT HERE. Roaches in the food and the Food license is expired. I visited Tarka for the first time today. Ate a portion of my meal and then decided to get a to-go box. After scooping my bowl, I found a dead cockroach at the bottom. Ick! It was so disgusting to find this AFTER eating my meal. Upon leaving, I also discovered their food operating license is expired. I will never visit this restaurant again.
