Coyote Joe's Avalon Reviews
I had the avocado ceviche and I have to tell you the fish was absolutely fresh, wonderfully cured not too salty not too sour just great flavor and great texture. Plus a nice heap of homemade tortilla chips on the side and of course, the half of avocado perfectly ripe. I was by myself and found a great table by the window. There’s a nice little bar tile and mural decor, and another group came in. It looks like almost 20 people, and they lined them all up, conveniently along the mirror wall with plenty of room for other tables inside and out. An intimate place with friendly people. Big thumbs up.
An amazing spot to enjoy with friends or your partner. The Latin music brings the place to life, the food is delicious, and the service is top-notch. Every detail is on point—definitely a 10/10 experience! Highly recommended
Spotless! Quaint, cute great atmosphere good service and everything seems to be freshly made. Chips are all handmade not store-bought fresh salsa cold beer.
We ordered the fish tacos plate and the fish ceviche. The food was authentic and absolutely delicious. The waiter was super kind and attentive. Whenever I visit catalina again, i will definitely stop by😋

10 days on a cruise ship with no good Mexican food and the boat stops in Catalina so what’s the first thing we do is hit this place. Food was excellent and service was great. Back to HB and our own kitchen for our kinda Mexican food.
Food was great and had lots of options veggie options! The service can be improved slightly, the place gets quite busy so sometimes hard to get waiters' attention.
Very cute place and very vegan friendly! I asked if they can make fajitas with beyond meat and they did it which is great. Even though they were very generous with the plant-based meat the flavor of the fajitas was off. Big portions and delicious fresh chips!
Iv been here before for dinner and it was great! Somewhat salty but not bad and good portions for the price. What really stood out to me was the service and price of a margarita. I came by around after closing time to which they were still taking walk ins. The margarita was huge huge huge. Seemed endless in the comically large cup. And that at $11. This place rocks. It's great for a late night thing since they're open later than all surrounding places.
Food B, service and safety A+. Overall we enjoyed our meal here. It was nice they had some options for little kids like french fries and chicken tenders. But overall the dishes were okay to good. The margaritas are sweet and strong which I liked but my husband didn't. What we all really liked was the partitions in between the tables and the fact that they have outdoor dining. Staff is super friendly and helpful.
So I just got back from Catalina and I'm still reeling from the most epic drink ever - Buffalo Milk, yeah I know, weird name, but trust me, it's a game changer. We hit up Coyote Joe's, because, Mexican food, duh, and I was on a mission to try this mythical drink. We scored a seat outside, because people watching is the best, and the weather was straight fire. We ordered the cheese enchiladas plate, because, basic, and my wife got the Birria Tacos, which were, no joke, amazing. My enchiladas, meh, but hey, I wasn't there for the food, I was there for the Buffalo Milk. Our waitress brings out these two glasses, one big, one small, and I'm thinking, okay, this is it, and oh man, it did not disappoint. I tasted the small glass, and I get it, the hype is real. It's like crack, but, you know, in a good way. I downed that small glass, and then proceeded to steal some of my wife's, sorry, not sorry. I'm making this drink my go-to from now on. Major props to the bartender, you're a genius. Only bummer, no free chips and salsa, what's up with that? The decor was on point, bright, festive, the whole shebang, and our waitress was awesome, wish I'd caught her name. All in all, Coyote Joe's is a must try, and don't even think about leaving without ordering the Buffalo Milk.
Was the perfect spot for a quick all you can year. And yes, Its all you can eat "everything*. We're pretty sure our members gained about 20lbs each.

We stopped in here for a late night snack. Service took forever, the nachos were pretty terrible, some of the worst I’ve had. Poor quality and barely any toppings besides low quality meat. Wouldn’t recommend or go back.

Food and drinks were good. We were docked with the Carnival Radiance. Restaurant was very busy. Experience was good until my bank statement showed they charged more than I authorized. Keep your receipt and cross check your records. Not a very good business practice to overcharge credit/ debit cards.
Came here for the “all you can eat” from 3-5pm. It was $20pp which is a good price for this sort of thing. However the food was not good, seemed like it was just microwaved. My friend felt sick immediately after so we had to leave early. The employees were nice and the atmosphere is alright but i would not recommend coming here
Staff was friendly and service was fast, unfortunately the restaurant is dishonest. I got the california burrito and asked to get the fries inside for the extra $3. Waiter told me it was included as part of it being a "california style" item. Well, not only did they still charge the extra $3 dollars, but it turns out the meat is an extra $4 charge, so I guess the burrito doesn't include meat by default, so the california burrito is actually $25. They also only serve bottled water, and the waiter told us, as he handed us the menus, that it was $2 each but it was actually $3 each. He said this as we were handed the menus so we hadn't yet seen that it does say $3 on the menu. The food itself was fine but the restaurant itself looks cheap.

The only Mexican restaurant I've eaten where chips and salsa is not served before the meal. Waited a long time for our food. The server never asked if we wanted a refill our beverage or how the food taste, I had to get up and ask the bartender for a refill. Bad service and the food was edible but definitely not worth $70 plus tip. I would suggest eating at a different restaurant. On a positive note Catalina Island is a beautiful place.
Never seen a Mexican restaurant not offering a complimentary chips and salsa before meal. After waiting for 30 minutes, I had to stand up and ask waiter to come and take an order. Had to pay for water, $3 for a 500 ml water bottle. Then food came in with uncooked rice. Told waiter that rice is uncooked, she said "ok I will let you know". Didn't hear anything on that, no sorry, no offer for replacement. We ordered chicken fajitas. There was red meat kind of thing mixed with chicken. Pretty sure it is a meat as we saw the texture but didn't eat it as we are allergic to red meat. Horrible experience!!
Cute restaurant with nice decor, but the food was not great. They also didn’t have all the items available on the menu like the ceviche and shrimp consome. I ended up ordering the green aguachiles and some of the shrimp were not deveined. For $23 I think the shrimp poop should be cleaned at the bare minimum. lost my appetite after seeing that and ended up just eating the avocado, onions, and chips. Fish tacos were alright but not spectacular. Service also was not great and it took a while for our server to bring us the bill. Overall food and service was mid, save your money and go elsewhere
I was not going to wtite a review but, just saw the menu and decided to do it. Came to this place on 1/11/25, the food was good but the service was terrible. Food got served and we didn't have the utensils, I asked the waiter for them when the second plate came, about 3 minutes later he walked by our table he has the utensils but went to the other table first, when he dropped off the utensils I asked for additional napkins, he responded used this one fitst then I'll bring you more! But what it made me mad was, when I asked him I think my plate should come with jalapeño, his answer was "I don't know, I'm NOT the cook!" He was so rude. This has been bothering me, I just saw the menue here and yes it's supposed to have jalapeño. If a simple question bothers you, then this is not your job!

OCTOBER 11, 2025 ........ My husband and I waited 30 min to get our credit card back from paying our bill. After asking the owners kid at the bar to please help us look for our card, he says they are looking for it, meaning the one waitress who told us she would bring our card to us 30 minutes ago. After 5 minutes of waiting again, I told the kid, why can't you help her look for it, you're just watching the game on TV? He said, she is looking for it for you, I said no she's not, she's serving other people and I'm sure they don't pay you to watch TV. The bartender kid didnt like my comment and was VERY RUDE, stating his daddy is the owner and has the right to kick my husband and I out (on our birthdays). So out of the building we went without our credit card, Not to mention the food taste horrible. No respect for senior citizens anymore from this younger generation. And this kid doesn't even own the place and carries his weight around as though he does. Im sure his dad won't appreciate his behavior after this review. ******* READ the reviews below about 4-5 reviews down.
