Don's NY Pizza Avondale Reviews
A true gem of NYC vibes!! I came without a reservation on, what seemed a pack night, but we were able to sit in the next 10 mins as the service is very quick and efficient. We dined before going to a Broadway show and it was PERFECT!! The pizzas came incredibly fast and were so good. In and out with dessert included in basically 45 mins. Highly recommended!! Ps: Don’t you dare to skip the Nutella Pizza! 🤎
Insane! The pizza was off the chain. The fresh sauce and mozzarella were bursting with flavor. Basil...yum!Definitely more New York style crust. Different from the crispy New Haven style that I'm more used to. I only cut a star because it was just so cramped. They packed us in like sardines. Worth it though. I couldn't recommend any more highly.
Second time here with the first being over 10 years ago. The first experience was amazing and the second one was just as good. The pizza is absolutely exceptional! If you're in the area, don't miss this place! Service was excellent as well!
Anyone with celiac disease knows how hard it is to find great pizza. Well, the 7th Greatest Pizza Maker in the United States knows exactly how to do it! What an amazing dinner served by the kindest staff. The friendliness of the Host and Bartender cannot be overstated. The menu is outstanding and offer a huge variety of authentic pizzas and all with GF options. The restaurant also has GF beer and cider. Apologies for going heavy on the gluten free commentary but it deserves high praise. Service is very fast so if you are headed to the theatre or just need a quick fix, this place is perfect. Thanks for an awesome dinner.
Recommended it, great experience. The pizza is delicious, we got a Diabola, a Margueritta with prosciutto and a Capricciosa. Definetely, authentic italian pizza. I lived in Italy for four years, these flavours took me back to the bella Italia. The customer service was amazing, five stars plus. From now on my favorite pizza in NYC.
Very layered, interesting and delicious flavors. Wonderful crust, but we expected that. Everything was so fresh and balanced that we felt more like we were eating fine-dining Italian than “just” pizza. The salad was so fresh, the potato croquettes have just a hint of parsley and lemon and the arancini have just a little fresh tomato. The small touches elevate every dish - even tiny, perfect little sprigs of basil on the Calabrian pizza made a difference. Service was terrific. Very attentive without being intrusive at all. Overall, a fun, comfortable and very delicious NYC Pizza experience.
Excellence is the only thing that exists here. Drinks are wonderful, appetizers great, and the pizza is other worldly. Like seriously. The best pizza I have had in my entire life, and that's really saying something. Triple D alerted me to the existence of this place and it absolutely did not disappoint. It's a 12 out of 10. Do your taste buds a favor and get over here 👍🏼
After having pizza in Naples, Italy this is easily the best Neapolitano pizza in the US. KESTE its sister restaurant in Brooklyn is equally as good. Make sure to get the classic regina margarita with buffalo mozzarella. It’s always the best. Also the KESTE pizza. We have eaten here easily 15 times and we live 3 hours away. We’ve also ordered online and had it shipped frozen which is also fantastic cooked at home.
A beautiful American Italian restaurant in the heart of midtown. Gluten-free options are available and clearly marked on the menu. The gluten-free pizza is excellent, the dough taste just as regular one does. The restaurant can get loud when all tables are filled, the bar area is quieter, even though it’s at the front of the restaurant. The staff is friendly and the food is fast even when the restaurant is full.
I haven’t been to Don Antonio location in NyC but I just had their pizza at the NYCWFF and I’m obsessed. This was my favorite bite at the festival and hands down one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had!!!! I can’t wait to visit the restaurant and have more and more amazing 🍕🍕🍕 Update: I finally went to Don Antonio before my Broadway show and I ordered the same pizza I had at NYCWFF, the Fall in Love. Of course I feel in love again. It’s delicious! The restaurant was packed but luckily, I scored a seat at the bar. Great vibes and I had the best time!!
Amazing pizza. Great restaurant vibes but seating just okay. Service a bit pushy. Definitely worth going out of your way to visit. Walked by the place many times but finally decided to give it a go after seeing a show. We showed up 30 minutes before closing but they were happy to accommodate us. Pizza looked and was authentic. Not heavy. Absolutely delicious. “10 year anniversary” and “fall… in love” pizzas were just amazing. My girl really liked the wine menu. Overall top notch food experience. Staff were generally good but as it was near closing, they kept pushing us to order quickly and finish up. I get it but not so nice. Great atmosphere too but the wooden benches weren’t the best for a 4 person group. Would have given 4.5 stars for each if I could. Overall, totally worth going for the food.
Don Antonio is a must-visit for pizza lovers! Every pie we tried was amazing—authentic Neapolitan with that perfect light and crispy crust. The lemon pizza was my favorite—bright, tangy, and unforgettable. It’s run by the daughter of the owner of Kesté (another great NYC pizzeria), so pizza mastery clearly runs in the family. A true family of expert pizzaioli. Friendly service, cozy vibe, and top-tier food. Can’t wait to go back!
I like this place for the simplicity but delicious pizzas. Came here with a large group during the week and was able to get seated with a reservation made the day of. The pizzas came out quick once ordered and the staff were wonderful to work with. The margherita stood out the most to me - simple yet fresh and delicious. Would come back again if I’m looking for a meal nearby.
Got the montanara clasica. Unique pizza but sauce could've been better, it was a bit too tangy/bitter. The dough was interesting, it was a bit on the sweeter side almost like funnel cake.
Bustling place. Many parties were waiting on a Friday night. The food tasted good, we really enjoyed the pizza. Service was okay, atmosphere was good.
The pizza had a great chew, though sometimes it turned into jaw exercise. I like string flavors, but the crust had a really strong flavor to a fault, because it overwhelmed the toppings. The Regina margherita could have more cheese to make up for that. The salad was pretty plain and not appealing at all.
Disappointing Experience at Don Antonio – Not Worth the Hype! I was genuinely looking forward to trying Don Antonio, given its reputation and prime location in New York City, but unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst pizza experiences I’ve ever had in the city. While the pizza came out quickly, that was the only positive. The crust was soggy—more like wet paper than anything resembling a proper crust—and the cheese was overwhelmingly greasy. The entire pie was a sloppy, inedible mess. I’ve eaten Neapolitan pizza hundreds of times, both in NYC and abroad, and this was nowhere close to acceptable. When I brought the issue to my server’s attention, I was brushed off with the explanation that “this is how Neapolitan pizza is.” That’s simply not true. I asked to speak with the manager, who was noticeably rude and dismissive. Although she did agree to remove the pizza from my bill, she never once offered an apology or showed any concern for the poor quality of the food. With so many incredible pizza spots in New York City, I strongly recommend skipping Don Antonio. Nearly any other pizzeria in the city would be a better choice.
