Love this place. Everything is great. The porkchop was cooked to perfection. And crab cake appetizer was the best.

I recently hosted a baby shower at The James, and I cannot recommend this venue highly enough. We rented out the entire upstairs, and it was nothing short of stunning. The space is so beautifully designed that there is no need to bring in any additional decor—it’s absolutely perfect as it is. From start to finish, the staff was exceptional—both professional and warm. They went above and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly. The food was delectable, and we enjoyed a mimosa bar that the team kept fully stocked throughout the event, ensuring no glass was ever empty. I was also impressed by how the staff seamlessly took coats for coat check, all while maintaining the flow of the event without disrupting the atmosphere. Whether you’re planning a private party, dinner, or even a casual happy hour, The James offers a fantastic experience. After our event, we moved downstairs to the bar, where we continued to receive impeccable service in an equally beautiful setting. If you're considering a place for your next event or simply looking for a great dinner spot, I can’t recommend The James enough. It truly is the perfect choice for any occasion!

The James is a true culinary gem that captures the sophisticated energy of a Manhattan dining, right here in our neighborhood. After eight memorable visits, I can confidently say that each dining experience has been exceptional. The thoughtfully decorated atmosphere sets the perfect backdrop for their outstanding cuisine, shows their commitment to customer experience but what truly elevates The James is their remarkable staff. Their teams commitment to hospitality, anticipating needs and ensuring each guest feels genuinely welcomed. From the carefully crafted dishes to the impeccable service, The James has mastered the art of fine dining while maintaining a warm, inviting ambiance. We will keepgoung back.

I had an amazing experience at The James in Babylon, thanks to Katie! She was friendly, attentive, and spot-on with her recommendations. The special Tomahawk steak was incredible, and the duck fat potatoes and Brussels sprouts were perfect sides. Plus, all the raw bar items were so fresh and delicious. Katie truly made the night unforgettable—be sure to ask for her when you go!

Food was delicious. Celebrated a birthday and they were so lovely and fun. Food was scrumptious-we had duck, flounder, short rib and steak. Everyone was happy with their food. Server Ana B was our server and she and all the other staff were top notch! Even the valet guys were fun! Highly recommend

We went here for Restaurant Week so it was a prefixed menu we ordered from. Got there during happy hour, 4 to 6, which is a great deal. $5 draft beer and cocktail specials along with food specials. Dinner was delicious and very rich. Service was terrific. Very good experience.

The James does not disappoint. It's upper echelon so you'll pay but well worth it. The staff are professional ,gracious & very helpful, thank you Frankie. Tuna app was delicious & the beet salad was best we ever had. Wine list is extensive & priced to fit every budget. The Porterhouse was insanely tender & super flavorful. The bone marrow butter was over & beyond yummy. An absolute must, Enjoy

This is the third time I've been to the James, and it never disappoints. It was restaurant week by chance and very crowded, however, with that being said, the service and attentiveness was top-notch. Our waitress Anna Besy checked in on us frequently to ask how our meal was and if we needed anything else, cocktails etc. The busboys kept our water glasses filled, which is very important to me. Food and dessert was delicious. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

We celebrated my daughters Bridal shower Sunday afternoon at The James in Babylon. Samantha and her staff were amazing! The food delicious, beautifully presented and plenty of it. Michael and the rest of the staff were so attentive, friendly and always making sure we had what we needed. The highlight was the French Toast served family style so that every one could enjoy. The ambiance was exactly what we were looking for and really required minimal decorations. Thanks again Samantha for making our day so memorable!

Overall exceeding my expectations! Party of 8 . Very attentive staff. From the bar to dinner and dessert , everything we ordered was spectacular. Pork chops were cooked perfectly. Pecchere pasta with short ribs was delicious! Branzino was fresh and flavorful. Key lime pie, sticky toffee pudding had a great presentation and yummy. Cocktails were generous and really good! Caviar shot girl was a nice touch too! Loved the whole vibe of this beautiful restaurant!

My husband and I had a fabulous meal on New Year’s Eve. For 15 years we went to Insignia, but wanted to stay closer to home so we tried The James. The restaurant is beautiful! The porterhouse steak and rest of the meal was delicious. And our server Ana B. was amazing. As busy as she was, she took care of us like we were her only customers. We found our new steakhouse right in the Village!

Desmond was our server and he was beyond amazing! We got the special New york strip with truffle butter and lobster mac and was so delicious. Desmond’s service was amazing and we couldn’t have asked for better! He was so personable and accommodating and gave us the best advice as far as what to order.

The food and drinks have been phenomenal both times I've gone. But the service has been next level! Rebecca our waitress was super attentive and pleasant. Going as far as even bringing me an extra drink that was accidentally made at the bar because she knew I liked it. Truly exemplary service, from the waitress to the busers and everything in between. Love it!

This was our first time at this restaurant. We have been too many different steakhouses since my wife loves steakhouse. I must say the James where we came to celebrate my daughter‘s birthday. I cannot find a negative thing about this restaurant. We as a family had amazing time and the service was amazing. Kudos to the management and the owners.

The food was absolutely amazing. My favorite was the paccheri: short rib with pasta dish AMAZING!!! Apps were great: crab cake, duck Lorange, baked clams were scrumptious!! The only thing that I wanted was MORE of everything. It was that good !!! Such a great addition to Babylon Village !!! We will be back A Lot !!

The James was such a delight! I had the beef Wellington for an entree and a couple of the smoke screens to cure my thirst. Both food and drink were spectacular. Family and I also shared a fine spread of appetizers and desserts. Be advised, the baked clams are second to none. I cannot wait to dine again at the wonderful new establishment in the heart of the historic Babylon Village, in a very historic building!. At The James, the food, service, and atmosphere exceed the expectations of dining in 2024. Do dine there soon! Bravo! 🎉

Today, we decided to try The James restaurant for my husband's birthday. I was immediately concerned with the number of people that were dining out on a Thursday night and thought there would be a lack in service...at some point...somewhere....but that was NOT the case. Staff was attentive and friendly throughout the entire dining experience, and there was no lag in waiting for our dishes. Now let me talk about the food....although I miss their previous Thai chili calamari, their current calamari offers a delicious crisp and flavor. My husband ordered The James salad, everything tasted so good and had a freshness. We tried the rack of lamb special and their bone in steak special with some delicious butter sauce. My husband emptied his plate, and anyone that knows me, knows how much I love A1 sauce on a steak, especially if I dislike their marinade...let's just say....no A1 sauce was needed here. We finished off with the crème brûlée, again....I'm very picky about my crème brûlée lol and it was beyond amazing! I cannot wait to go back. Oh! One last thing! The new decor is stunning, no matter what area of the restaurant you sit in. Okay, that is all. Hope you are encouraged to try it!

The James has elevated the game on Long Island for elegance, fine dining and hospitality. From the decor, to the swanky old timey music that teleports you to feeling regal in another place in time, to their dedicated, professional staff, to lastly their incredible food, I can’t talk enough about The James. It’s a whole experience. Carlos is an incredible server, he goes above and beyond and hits it out of the park with thoughtfulness and consideration and he’s solidified our loyalty to The James as our go-to spot for date night, dinner with out of town guests, a drink at the bar, dinner on a random Tuesday, whatever the occasion. Other restaurant groups (Scotto brothers, Lessings, Poll, Bohlsen etc) need to come to The James and take notes. The attention to detail and care towards their guests is simply unmatched anywhere else.

Amazing experience tonight! *Excellent* service, balanced and perfect food from start to finish. Oysters were fresh and reasonably priced, bone marrow butter was a perfect addition to ribeye, which was cooked to perfection. Table of 5 people, no one got a bad dish honestly. For the first time dining at The James my wife and I had a great time celebrating our 11 year anniversary. Even on a Saturday night during “rush hour” the service was top tier, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was inviting. We really enjoyed the Crab Cake, Tomahawk Steak, Duck Fat Gratin Potatoes, and Sticky Toffee Pudding. Overall I’d recommend The James based upon our experience and we will be returning for certain. Special shout out to our Waitress Ana Besy who made the experience memorable with her fantastic service.

I have no words. What an incredible experience. When you go out to eat, you want an experience and The James brings it. The food quality is top notch and the service and ambiance are there to match. Easily the best restaurant in this area. Do not hesitate to make a reservation, my wife and I were lucky to get one.

My girlfriend and I ran out for a quick bite tonight and returned to the James for the second time. The host seating us was so sweet and gave us nice compliments. The service was perfectly timed and servers were so great, often checking on us to see if we needed anything throughout our meal. We both ordered the steak frites which was so yummy, French fries nice and crisp. Perfectly priced and a steal at $38. Our waitress was the best, Ana B., and took care of us so nicely throughout the entire meal. I also ordered the cats pajamas cocktail. I don’t normally drink my drink fast, but drank this one so fast cause it was so yummy! We will be back, thanks for treating us so kindly and feeding us delicious food 🌈

The James in Babylon Village is a whole vibe—beautiful decor, warm and inviting atmosphere, and food that’s out of this world. The James Salad with lobster was super fresh, and the Ribeye with Brussels sprouts and Fries? Pure magic. Total flavor explosion. Paola at the bar made amazing drinks and had the sweetest energy. Can’t wait to go back!

I’d give this place an 11/10. As someone new to the area, I wasn’t sure what to expect—especially since I showed up in gray leggings and a sporty Lululemon‑style sweater at what turned out to be a rather upscale restaurant. From the moment I stepped inside, though, the hostess, my server, and every team member made me feel genuinely welcome. My waitress was outstanding—warm, attentive, and full of spot‑on recommendations. I kicked things off with a refreshing lychee martini and a pile of baked clams that were simply divine. Next came a skinny margarita made with reposado tequila, followed by a perfectly cooked wagyu steak alongside roasted potatoes and caramelized sweet onions—absolutely mouthwatering. For dessert, I tried an espresso martini for the first time, and it was executed flawlessly. In every respect, this meal blew me away. 11/10!

BEYOND SPECTACULAR….Every aspect of our dining experience at The James was truly amazing! Our server Brandon was so accommodating and highly attentive. This was our first experience with The James, and it was totally worth every moment. Sean the manager went above and beyond to ensure we had a pleasant experience! Every single employee was friendly, polite, and paid so much attention to details: whether big or small… There were so many nice touches such as claiming your leftovers after the meal, by having them hold it for you before you departed! Ambiance with amazing jazz-like music was also a highlight. The interior decor was so relaxing (and welcoming). Kudos to the entire staff at The James for making my husband’s birthday dinner so special! We will be back very soon.

The James is the sister restaurant of Arlo in Northport. The food is just as good and the ambiance was great. Caesar salad was great, the baked clams had an anchovy breadcrumb which was delicious. The beef Wellington was fantastic & the 19 layer chocolate cake was also excellent. Drinks were well thought out and fantastic as well. Overall the food & experience was just as good as it is at Arlo. Some of these reviews complain about noise, however I did not have any issue with that. It was a normal atmosphere. Some people just like to complain. The place is huge and gorgeous inside and is a nice spot to go to on the south shore. Overall this place is a nice new spot. Food and service was impeccable and well worth the price. Definitely should give it a try

I recently dined at The James in Babylon, and it was fantastic. The vibe was elegant yet fun, with great music and ambiance that kept the energy high all evening. The seafood tower was incredibly fresh, and the tomahawk steak was impressive. The short ribs for two were the highlight of the table. Desserts were outstanding—18-layer chocolate cake, crème brûlée, and cheesecake, all delicious. We topped it off with an espresso martini. Rebecca, our server, was fantastic, and Samantha at the front of house took excellent care of us. We’ll definitely be back!

I had my bridal shower at the James for 40 people and cannot rave enough about the staff, food, ambiance, and entire experience. We really liked this place. I remember the Old Carriage House. They made this place beautiful. Service was great and the food was really good. I thought Prime was expensive, this place takes the cake. Cracked $350 a couple here no problem with drinks. But hey, can't put a price on a good time right?

J
José Tutiven

A gem within the South Shore. I think you have to start off the review for this place with acknowledgment of the incredible environment it offers. A perfect homage to the historic Carriage House that was there previously. Now lets move to the drinks - yes espresso martinis are the drink of 2024 and instagram influencers. But this was the first time I tried it with Casamigos Cristalino and it definitely elevated the palate of the drink. Wine list was endless and decided to try something from a new region, which paid off. Took it easy with the appetizers and shared a wedge salad at the table - which was more than enough. But shoutout to the chef because the Roquefort dressing was the star of that show. Menu offers a variety of options which satisfied both vegetarian and carnivore palates. The cauliflower had the perfect amount of roast and a chimichurri to die for. For the pork chop, let the chef decide on how it comes out and promise the apricot mostarda brings it all together. The wildcard of the night was the Duck Fat Confit Gratin Potato. No complaints there either. With all that said ‘The James’ is a place that you need to experience if you’re in the vicinity (or coming from out of town) The whole staff was accommodating starting from valet service, the downstairs mixologist, to the professional wait staff and the manager Matthew. Highly recommend and will be going back when I need an elevated dinner experience.

My fiancé' and I have eaten here 4 times now. It's safe to say that we love spending an evening here. The atmosphere and the customer service are always top notch and keep us coming back. The food is always great and ready in a quick and timely manner, despite how busy they may be. We also appreciate the dim lighting and decor of the restaurant. We went to eat last night for restaurant week and were especially impressed by the exemplary service provided by our server Tori and Sherwin. These two represent the definition of what class and service should be in the industry. In a time when everything is more expensive, The James is always worth it due to the high quality service that is continuously provided by all.

B

Amazing! Matthew and his staff were incredible. Prince Harry took care of us. The food was exceptional. It was restaurant week so it gave us a chance to try it. The drinks were well made. The service was too notch. The aesthetics were great. The Fusilli and the Salmon are the best we have had. The cheesecake was smooth and creamy. Salads were too notch as well. I cannot say enough about their restaurant. And the birthday card for my girlfriend's birthday was a nice touch. We will be back. Tell em Barsnobs sent ya!

The James reminds you of what service and quality used to be like in the era of suits and ties, handkerchiefs and lace. There is a Great Gatsby feel to this brick and mortar two story restaurant and it works from the lighting to the artwork, the decor is pleasing to the eye. Our waiter Michael was fantastic, knowledgeable, and never rushed us. The food was delicious, well portioned, and served quickly. We had the tuna appetizer, pork chop, steak frites, and key lime pie. Everything was on point. The pork chop was juicy, savory, and just the right amount of heat . The steak frites was extremly tender and well cooked. The complimentary drinks were a nice touch and a very uncommon practice in this era of nickel and diming customers for everything. We felt appreciated as patrons and that speaks volumes about the customer service. The James is the finest restaurant in Babylon and one of the finest restaurants in Long Island.

Realllly phenomenal experience at The James thanks to Tori. She took the time to go over the drink specials and menu, and I ended up going with the skirt steak which was excellent. Her service was attentive, pure, and she made sure everything at our table was running smoothly the whole night. To end the dinner she offered tea, coffee, or dessert which was a great touch; I went with the tea since she recommended it. Tori is definitely top tier and made the whole experience even better.

I hosted a party for 45 guests at The James. The private room was beautifully decorated and created a perfect atmosphere for the event. The food was abundant and delicious — the lamb chops were an absolute standout! Service was excellent throughout the night: attentive, professional, and seamless. A special thank you to Samantha Mollica, the Catering Manager, who was wonderful to work with. She was responsive, organized, and made the entire planning process easy and stress-free. A great place for whatever kind of night you are looking to have. We have done Sunday all day happy hour, formal sit down dinners upstairs, drinks and appetizers at the bar, and even attended their hosted local charity events. From the moment you walk in, they set the tone that it is going to be a special night. The food is outstanding, and the espresso martini is a must. They will even make a decaf version if you ask. We love ordering a little of everything and sharing with friends because it is nearly impossible to choose just one dish. Also worth noting, any previous comment about a credit card charge issue was not the restaurant’s fault. It turned out to be the individual’s bank taking over a week to release a standard pre authorized charge. This is our go to spot for a night out any time of year. See you at The James.

What a great restaurant!!! Good food, friendly staff, unbelievable service. I had my church Christmas dinner at the James in Babylon. We were about 30 people. My team couldn’t stop talking about how wonderful the night was. It was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Samantha is a great manager. She took care of every details for the night. She made sure everything was up to par before she went home for the night. She assigned Jazmine and her team to our party, and I must say, they were all fantastic. I already booked another event with the James. I know for certain it’s going to be great. Thanks to Samantha, Jazmine and her team.

The restaurant itself is really beautiful with the wrap around staircase, loft and high ceilings. The waitstaff was very attentive and we enjoyed our meal. Would recommend the Brussels sprouts as a side and key lime pie for dessert. I enjoyed the Riesling wine and calamari appetizer. I didn't love my entree which was Chilean sea bass but it didn’t take away from the experience being great.

First time at The James. Place was so beautifully decorated, staff was very sweet and accommodating, but my favorite was the manager Sean. He kept coming to our table asking if all was ok. Always with a smile. He was knowledgeable about the food and drinks, giving us some good advice on what to order. We tried the caviar pump for the first time and he instructed us on how to properly eat it. Food was super tasty and drinks were strong. We definitely will be coming back to visit Sean. He made this experience 10 times better. Thank you!

I recently had my daughter’s engagement party at The James and cannot say enough about the staff, the food and the restaurant itself. Samantha (our event coordinator) planned the perfect party for us. She was very detail oriented, very helpful and very patient with any last minute changes. She always made herself available for any questions that we had, which we greatly appreciated. She stayed on sight at the party the entire time to make sure that everything ran seamlessly. The food and drinks were absolutely fabulous and the staff were honestly just wonderful (shout out to Michael who always made sure we were taken care of). The staff as a whole were professional, very kind and very personable. The restaurant is beautifully done. Our party was upstairs, very spacious and private. We had compliment after compliment all night long. I cannot say enough about Samantha and The James and would highly recommend them for a special event. Elegant party venue! I hosted a bridal shower for my daughter on Saturday. Everything was just perfect! Samantha and the staff worked seamlessly to insure the shower was a success. They even helped with setting up and breaking down the room! Our guests raved about the food and service! I felt relaxed leaving the details of the shower in their very capable hands! Thank you for a most memorable day!

This was our first time at "The James". We were Celebrating our Wedding Anniversay. The manager "Kyle" made sure we were happy with our choice of restaurants. "Ramon" our server was patient & very attentive. The car Valet attendants were polite & quick. Our meal choices were deliciously prepared, served with joy & the flavors were memorable. Everyone who attended to us seemed happy to be there. I highly recommend the house "Tiramisu" & the "Sticy Toffee Pudding" for dessert.

This is my first time at The James and I will most certainly be back! Abby was so efficient and sweet, she had great recommendations and made sure we were taken care of at all times. The food was wonderful and the drinks were a 10/10. For appetizers we got the beef tartar, tuna crudo, oysters and caviar bumps. For dinner we got the cowboy ribeye, beef Wellington, pork chop, NY strip, brussel sprouts and mac and cheese.

My wife and I had dinner tonight at THE JAMES in Babylon to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We started the evening at the bar, taking advantage of their excellent happy hour menu. Afterward, we were seated in the dining room for dinner where we shared a 40-ounce Tomahawk steak topped with Bone Marrow Butter. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was absolutely delicious. For our sides, we ordered Duck Fat Confit Gratin Potato and Charred Broccolini. Both were flavorful and well prepared. Our server Ana was incredibly helpful, kind, and professional, offering exceptional hospitality throughout the night. Before dinner, we were surprised with a glass of champagne and a personalized anniversary card. This thoughtful touch made our evening even more special. Another unique aspect of The James is their food claim check system. If you have leftovers, they carefully pack them up and provide a claim check number allowing you to pick them up before you leave. From start to finish, we had a wonderful dining experience and have only good things to say about The James. Highly recommend.

The James is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, everything was amazing. Our waiter, Michael, was incredibly helpful in explaining the menu to us. The food was delicious, starting from the mouthwatering bread they served us right down to the tasty dessert. We had an incredible time, thanks to the fantastic drinks and the immaculate atmosphere and vibe. The interior design is phenomenal, with lovely aesthetics that add to the charm of the place. Every detail in the restaurant was great, and we can't wait to come back!

Beautiful place for my nieces shower. Food was good except the coffee & they gave you about enough cream for 1 or 2 people for 4 or 5 to use so it couldn't be doctored & My sister said the French toast was very greasy. I had the filet it was very good. Only drawbacks are the acoustics are Very loud due to the high ceiling probably ( I was practically yelling at my aunt next to me!! Lol! )And the bathrooms are ridiculously dark for some reason?? Price wise idk as I was only a guest. But my niece was very happy

Thank goodness for valet parking. it was quite cold out, and the place is very popular. Upon entering, you'll notice the activity right away. Several hostesses were about, taking coats and seating people, and it was quite noisy on the main floor. We were seated upstairs where it was quieter. Waitstaff was hustling and our server milled around without being overbearing. Water glasses were filled regularly, and they came around to refresh our drinks as needed. We were here to celebrate a Friends' Christmas Dinner, and this place did not disappoint. They sat 11 of us in a large round table, and it was a little cramped, but not bad. Apps and food came out in a timely manner, no waiting. We had steaks, pork chops, salmon, duck, octopus, calamari, shrimp, and the variety was dizzying but it was all great. Rare steak was prepared perfectly, and the au poivre might have been a little past medium rare but very tasty nonetheless. The octopus was fantastic. I can't say much for the other dishes, but I had a taste of the duck and salmon because they were within arm's reach and they were equally as good. The duck was seasoned just right, and the temp was respected. The salmon was a nice chunk with that crisp sear, but moist inside. Desserts were also just right to cap off the experience.

The food was good — the Caesar salad was great, so was the salmon dish, oysters and cheesecake.. the flavor of the pork chop was awesome, but it was a litttle dry this evening. Ambiance on point 👌🏽

Reminiscent of a busy Manhattan steakhouse with a loud, large atmosphere. It's not romantic, yet fun and exciting. Warm upstairs seating. Food was spot on. I ahd the duck cassoulet appetizer and the pork chop entree. Both fanastic. The duck was confit to a crisp, moist, and tender inside. The sauce was a good balance of acidic, salty, and savory. Pork chop was cooked well, mosit with a bit of cherry pepper spice. Another person at my table said their pork chop was dry but then realized he had no sauce on the dish. Kitchen error, perhaps. Service was not so good. Slow and inattentive, yet the wait staff seemed to be running around. Other sections wouldn't even clear unused wine glasses, stating he would send over the waiter to do it. Spilled some wine from the wine bottle after breaking the cork. Not exactly excellent service, but the waiter was nice and respectful. Left a good tip. The Saint Joseph Northern Rhone was exceptional and a fantastic value, highly recommended. The wine list was beautiful. Cheers!

The atmosphere here is very nice. It can get noisy but it's not to the point where you can't converse. The service was pretty good and the food was delicious overall. I would not pay extra for the table side martini though. Just get it made at the bar.

Celebrated my birthday here with my family and holy crap was it expensive! There were 8 of us, and we go out to dinner very often to high end restaurants—but this place definitely took the crown for our highest bill yet. We all had drinks(not nearly as many drinks as we usually have at dinner) apps, sides, and a few of us split entrées. I will start off by saying this place is absolutely stunning. The hostesses were so friendly, and we were greeted by a lovely lady who opened the door for us. We were seated on the second floor, but the ambiance up there was a bit disappointing. The music was unreasonably loud we could barely hear each other across the table and while I usually love a dark, modern restaurant, it was way too dark in here and they kept putting the lights lower and lower. Service was okay. It took about 25 minutes to get our drinks, but we were given complimentary samples while we waited (twice actually), which was a nice touch though we were definitely ready for our actual drinks, lol. Our server was great when he was at the table and made sure everything was good, but we didn’t see him very often. Our drinks stayed empty for most of the meal, which was frustrating especially since we’re big drinkers but I guess that helped keep the bill slightly lower…. The food came out quickly, which I appreciated. It was good overall, but a few dishes missed the mark. The scallops were overly salty, my $160 porterhouse was a quite chewy, and the lobster mac had a strong fishy taste. Everything else, though, was pretty solid. Best creamed spinach we’ve ever had. Overall, yes, I’ll be back just with a smaller party of two to give it another shot. I had really high hopes, and while it wasn’t bad, it just didn’t quite live up to the price tag or the hype for our most expensive dinner yet.

Enjoyed a meal here with 2 other couples. Our server was great. The food was tasty. Price point is very high for portion size. The only complaints were they were out of a lot of things we ordered, the first round of drinks at the bar took a very long time (it was not crowded) and the burger someone in our party ordered was not cooked well.

To start, I must say our dinner at The James was during a popular time for holiday parties. As such, I will need to return in the coming months when things calm down. However this review is our first time dining at the restaurant and during busy holiday time of year. To start, we arrived early for our 6pm reservations to have a cocktail, walking in around 5pm the bar was packed and extremely loud. I slipped inbetween people to order a drink that once the bartender reached me all went well. Cocktails were made perfect and bartender was quick to cover demand. Wish we could have sat down but majority of the tables were reserved for parties. With others of our party arriving, we were sat at a table upstairs and greeted by our servers. They were busy but very attentive to our needs through out dinner. We ordered Baked Clams that were absolutely excellent. Followed by Lobster Pasta, Cod Fish and their Tomahawk steak special for two. My wife and I had the steak which was prepared to our request but was a bit fatty. I might be spoiled by other steak houses here on Long Island but dont think it stacks up to those as its competition. However all in all. It was good and I will go back to try at a quieter time and provide a update.

The James is a beautiful restaurant with a great staff and service. Unfortunately our food was just too salty. I'm someone who likes finishing salt on my steak but this was way too much. Everyone in my party had similar feelings even though we all had different dishes. Even one of my kids who got the pasta with red sauce off the kid's menu, her dish was too salty as well. I had high hopes for The James as my wife and I love the sister restaurant Arlo and we brought my Father here for his 75th birthday, but left disappointed.

Attended an afternoon event there. They locked up the parking lot I had to do metered parking for $1.10 for four hours. The event was three hours. There were three entrées on the menu, salmon, chicken, and a hamburger most of the people that had the chicken said it was very dry And they were asking for something to dress it with. The salmon was very good. I’ve never had to skin my salmon. The sauce with the salmon made it very good. The hamburger can only be cooked, medium rare so many people did not order it. The weight staff was very good. The room itself was very noisy. We were 40 people and the room didn’t seem to absorb the sounds.

One tonight for the first time. Got there early ordered a Prosecco at the bar, was charged $16 when the menu says $14 by the glass when I question the waitress, she printed out the receipt and there is $1.22 tax which would bring the total to $15.22 so apparently The James upcharged to $16! that really upsets me when an establishment doesn’t round down on $.22 My beet salad was delicious and fresh, I had a steak which was delicious. The Keylime pie was too cold making the consistency too stiff. I did order a second iced tea, which never came. I was very thirsty but I get this happens sometimes. Based on rounding up the change. I cannot bring myself to go there again. It’s just not right in my opinion. Please beware of the up charges they make.

After hearing so many good things we finally tried The James. Sadly it's a one and done for us. They did a lovely job on renovation. Music a bit too loud for dinner conversation, but that's nothing. Hostess took us up to our table and handed us the menus while we were still standing and removing coats! Huh? This isn't a taco stand, it was so weird. server very nice, even brought a small aperitif on the house. Each couple ordered caesar salads to share. Salad was brought out for us to split ourselves, ok not terrible but no serving utensils! I used my own dinner fork. We had no spoons so it wasnt so easy. I had to ask for fresh pepper, none was offered. Steaks were cooked perfectly, veal special was not a generous portion. The lobster mac and cheese was dry. Not very creamy or tasty. We have dined in almost every fine restaurant on the island and sadly, The James missed the mark for their prices. We don't mind spending the money but expect a finer experience. Step it up because really there is much better within 25 minutes of Babylon.

Will start off by saying the restaurant is stunning. A great venue. It’s huge but maintains a sense of intimacy somehow. I think it’s the lighting and floor plan. Our waitress was prompt, helpful and kind. Drinks were great. Another delight of the night was the great music choices. The food was just ok. We didn’t order any over complicated dishes. Everything was just a little bland and didn’t feel fresh. We did go close to closing time to I’m assuming that attributed to that. Also, this restaurant is on the pricier side so please keep that in mind before planning a visit.

I came in with high expectations, and the ambience was incredible. The service was great—everyone was very kind and made our birthday feel special, which we really appreciated. The food itself is very expensive, but the portion sizes were perfect. You get a fair amount for what you pay. Unfortunately, my counterpart and I had a bad experience with the meat. We ordered the filet mignon, and for $130, it was disappointing that the steak was overcooked. We didn’t ask for a replacement because we were starving, but it came out very overdone and honestly a bit cold. The flavor was still good, but for that price, it should’ve been perfect. I understand it was busy, and overall the service was still solid—our waitstaff was incredible, very polite and attentive. There were a few moments where we waited a bit, but nothing unreasonable, and it did give us time to get our appetite back. One highlight was the dessert. The cake was amazing—18 layers of pure goodness. I’d definitely recommend getting that.

This experience deserves to be posted so that this restaurant can hopefully improve. I’ve had similar issues multiple times I’ve dined here and since some time has passed since my last time there, it unfortunately doesn’t seem much has changed. Ate here Saturday night, the server was very pleasant but basically left our table after the appetizers were served. We had an 8:15pm reservation, sat at 8:30pm which is fine, not a big deal. Appetizers came out at a decent time however the main issue was that they stopped servicing our table after that, no one came by to check on us for over an hour. We were all fighting to stay awake as we waited for our meals. The staff was even breaking down the tables all around us which I’m sorry when you’re dropping over $200 per person on a meal, is in extreme poor taste. We were not served our meals till 10:30pm, my bf had to stalk someone down to even get a coffee to try and stay awake before the dinners were finally served. In this type of an establishment I was shocked at the service received. It was great in the beginning and then crickets. They also took forever to hand the cards back so we had to wait again when all we wanted to do was leave. Oh, and they took our waters away as we were mid drinking them, it was very odd. Please take this review into consideration as this was such a poor experience at such a beautiful establishment.

Was excited to come here. Atmosphere and service were top notch and a beautiful setting. We came for a friend’s birthday and they even gave her a Birthday card. The menu looked relatively unique and we were excited to try the food. When the food came most of the party was very dissatisfied. All three dishes were drenched in sauce . One dish seemingly to cover a cheap piece of meat. I would have enjoyed my dish much more had it not been for the sauce. Aside from that the drinks were not mixed well at all. I’m glad we didn’t order any of the specials as the check might have been double the price and I’m afraid we would have been terribly disappointed. We did order dessert and that was wonderful! I ordered off the menu and the berries were sweet and fresh and presented beautifully.

Been here a few times now since moving to town. Beautifully executed space, food is good, however this is now the second time I’ve run into an issue with this place. First my card was charged twice for someone else’s check (which was reversed thankfully). Last night dined there and noticed how much of an up charge they put on drinks at the table vs. bar area. Talking about a $7-10 difference. It’s inconsistencies like this that I will probably not return to dine again. Shameful.

Decor is nice, very friendly , very pricey and you don't get enough food. Food was average like any other regular restaurant. My opinion if you're going to open a fancy restaurant make sure to have the best cook money can buy.

As soon as we arrived the girl up front had an attitude. The food was bland and unseasoned. The Shrimp was not fresh and tasted old. I told them to pack my leftovers and they completely forgot to pack a dish. To top it off we were taking photos before leaving and overheard the staff making fun of us with the patrons at the bar. Not classy at all

The place is absolutely beautiful but the food was not good at all.. tasted old and no flavor and it’s expensive for nothing. Better off going to a steakhouse. When I told the sever my beef Wellington did not taste right his response was “have you ever had that before” in a real conceited tone. Don’t waste your time here if anything just get a drink.

Had the pork chop, nice portion but flavored like buffalo wings. After my mouth was numb from the spice, the chop taste identical to chicken with franks red hot. I enjoy spicy food but this was disgusting. Waiter was awesome, very friendly and very responsive. Very nice looking restaurant with a ritzy feel. People told me prior to going they were also disappointed with the food but i wanted to formulate my own opinion and i can agree they were correct. Would go back but to sit at the bar for a drink.

We were really looking forward to trying this restaurant for our date night, but unfortunately, we left disappointed. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful and our waitress was kind and welcoming. However, the food fell far short of expectations. My husband’s pork chop was undercooked to the point that he couldn’t eat most of it. And I didn’t think it was possible to go wrong with a pasta dish, but somehow it missed the mark completely (and still came with meat in it when requested removal). Then our nearly untouched plates were cleared away without anyone asking if there was a problem. At this point, the only thing we could recommend is stopping by for a drink to enjoy the ambiance. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning for a meal.

I’ve eaten at The James and the food was good. My issue is with the customer service. I order a e-gift card for my friend’s birthday on October 19 which he never received through his email. I thought my friend would enjoy a nice dinner. Since then I have called The James numerous times just to have the issue with the e-gift rectified. I have yet to receive a call from the manager, left messages with the hostesses. They were quick to charge my credit card, but nobody has had the courtesy to call me back. Very disappointed!

Save yourself the time and go to the Lakehouse or Tellers. The service was just horrible, they took away one of our plates before we were done without asking, the duck and the burger were over cooked, we told our waiter who just walked away without saying anything. Later he gave us dessert menus and failed to return for 20 minutes by which point we just wanted to leave. Honestly this place is quite pretty, but for the money you can go to prettier restaurants with much better food.

D
Dan Brown

Despite the establishment’s visually appealing ambiance, we experienced significant delays in receiving our seats and the waiter was frequently absent. Consequently, the culinary experience did not meet our expectations. My wife’s salmon dish was undercooked, making it inedible for the majority of the meal. Similarly, the Caesar salad dish, which we had requested to be served with chicken, failed to meet our standards. Furthermore, our nearly untouched plates were cleared away without any inquiry regarding potential leftovers. Regrettably, we will not be returning for a meal.

Our group of 10 adults experienced a dangerous failure to follow food allergy safety protocols. I have a nut allergy and routinely disclose it when ordering items that may contain nuts, yet we were served appetizers from the specials menu containing nuts with no indication, no warning, and no allergy inquiry. After one bite of the meatball appetizer special, I had an immediate allergic reaction. When I asked the waiter to confirm what type of nuts the meatballs contained and questioned the bacon appetizer, he was unsure and had to go to the back to check, later confirming that both contained nuts. Our server never apologized. The manager’s response was dismissive and unempathetic, deflecting responsibility rather than showing concern to a serious medical issue. While I was in the bathroom dealing with my reaction, my unfinished entrée was taken away. As I returned to the table, I passed the manager and pointed out that my meal was being removed. He stated the unannounced nut-containing appetizers and my entrée would be removed. The bill arrived incorrect, and after follow-up, I was still charged for my entrée. We also declined a complimentary dessert, yet four desserts were brought anyway two of them containing nuts. This ruined the night , as I spent the remainder of the evening managing an allergic reaction. The lack of communication, allergy awareness, and follow-through was unacceptable. Overall, the atmosphere was beautiful, the service was unacceptable and the food and drinks were average at best for a restaurant that presents itself as higher-end.

The waitress forgot to get one of the party's dinner order. This has never happened in any restaurant that I have ever been too. It happened to be the birthday boy. She also never made up for the mistake. One of the water glasses had a finger mark on the inside and it had to be replaced. The food was excellent the bus boy service was excellent. The waitress was probably too busy to really care about our table. We asked her for some tongs for the salad we ordered and she brought over two forks. The table next to us had the same salad appetizer and they got tongs. Very disappointed with the waitress and it kinda ruined the night for the birthday celebration. If you go there you should probably expect great food but poor waitress service. Maybe we just got the wrong person to wait on our table. I used to be a waiter so I can understand a little bit but this was definitely an issue especially in this level of a restaurant.
