Cheeseboard Pizza Berkeley Reviews
Cheese Board Collective Pizzeria is definitely one of those hidden gems worth making the trip for. Even if it’s not in your area, the effort to stop by is totally justified. The vibe is super laid-back, with a real community feel to it since it’s worker-owned, and they really focus on quality ingredients and unique flavor combinations. The menu is constantly changing, so you’ll always find something fresh and seasonal, but the standout is definitely their signature cheese pizza—simple, yet perfectly executed with a crust that strikes a great balance between chewy and crispy. If you're into creative toppings, you'll love their ever-changing daily pies. It's not your typical pizza place where you choose toppings, so it’s more of an adventure every time. The lines can get long, especially during peak hours, but it's worth the wait. Plus, it’s usually a great spot to chat with locals or fellow pizza lovers. Their salad bar is also something to note—fresh and really complements the pizza. It’s a bit pricey for pizza, but the quality and experience make it feel like a treat every time.
Hands down the second best vegan/vegetarian pizza I’ve had. You can really taste the freshness in every bite. It is honestly unique: have you ever seen a pizza place with 3k+ reviews that only sells one type of pizza per day and is completely vegetarian? I haven't. The atmosphere is a huge plus. There is live music whenever we visit, which adds a great vibe. If you prefer to talk without the music, they have an outdoor dining area where you can sit and chat comfortably. The only struggle is parking around the area. Be prepared for a line if you go on the weekend, but don't let the length scare you off: it moves very quickly. The max we've ever waited is 15-20 minutes. Most importantly for me, they are incredibly accommodating. They are always able to customize for my Jain vegan diet (no onion, no garlic) if I order the whole pizza. Staff is very friendly too. Highly recommend this place.
Finally made it to the Cheese Board Pizza Collective in Berkeley — a spot I’ve wanted to try for years. They serve one style of pizza a day, and when it’s gone, it’s gone. Today’s slice with baby chard and kale, leek, mozzarella, ricotta salata, garlic olive oil, and citrus zest was fresh, unique, and seriously good. I’m usually a simple pizza guy, but this one delivered. Absolutely worth the wait. A true Berkeley staple.
The cheeseboard is legendary in Berkeley. The bakery and cheese shop is world class. Great selection, frequently changing menu, and seasonal treats. The seeded city loaf has a strong case for being the best loaf of bread in Berkeley. The people are friendly, and it’s nice to know there’s a nice business model supporting it. Excited to see how their renovations open up the business
Legendary for a reason and in a league of its own. Not much to say that hasn't already been said. Best potato on pizza I've ever had, will be worth the wait no matter what, and do not forget to grab some green sauce! Something about stopping by, especially when there's live music, always lifts my spirits. Ridiculously affordable. Staff is always incredibly pleasant. Would that I could eat here every day.
Finally got to check out this pizza place and bakery for lunch! They have a simple yet unique concept - one vegetarian pizza offered each day. I arrived right when they opened, and although there was already a line, it moved quickly. The pizza was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully simple - no frills, just quality ingredients. The green sauce paired perfectly with the pizza. I drove an hour to try it, and it was absolutely worth it!
Unique, surprising, and delicious! Fresh, hot, and totally tasty. Not from the area, I was caught off guard by the 1 flavor type of pizza but we barreled ahead to enjoy what was being served. It is such a popular spot that even 30 minutes after they were open, we were already standing in a line. All of the people who already ordered and obviously enjoying their slices were a testament to what we were about to try out. We were not disappointed! Wow. I never would have thought this combination would be my thing but Cheese Board pulled off an absolutely amazing topping choice. Wow. So happy that we stopped in to try to out this spot. Also! This cola was wonderful! Who needs Coca Cola anyway? Cheese Board found an amazing replacement! Absolutely would come back to try again :)
The Cheese Board is a Berkeley gem. The pizza was excellent — with one carefully crafted flavor offered each day. Even the vegan option was impressive and full of flavor. On this Wednesday evening, a live band added to the vibrant atmosphere, making the experience even more enjoyable. Although there was a long queue, it moved quickly and was well worth the wait.
Nirvana for pizza and cheese lovers, foodies of all sorts - tonight was a fig, danish blue and arugula pizza, with Caravan, an eclectic north african / spanish quartet who played beautiful music on a summer night with friendly patrons sharing tables and conversation. Berkeley at it's best!
Cheese board is simply the bests I have been going here for more than 20 years since I was a kid. They do one type of pizza per day, with rotating menu using local in-season ingredients. You can buy by the slice or a half or whole pizza. They also have a daily salad and a dipping sauce. It’s all vegetarian. I don’t live in Berkeley any more, but make sure I visit every time I come back! The crust is a chewy sourdough and the cheeses are always on point!
A must try pizzeria! You are served a one and only (vegetarian/vegan) pizza of the day in an amazing ambience. The choice of crust and toppings is simply delicious. The pizzeria knows what they are doing, trust their choices and give it a try. P.S. don’t forget to get a side of zesty green sauce to further elevate the flavor profile.
Cheeseboard Collective in Berkeley might just serve the best pizza in the Bay Area. Their thin-crust pizzas are made with fresh, local ingredients and change daily — so check the schedule before you go. It’s always vegetarian, but the inventive flavors more than make up for the lack of meat. Expect a line, but it moves fast and there’s often live music to enjoy while you wait. Don’t forget to grab a chocolate chip cookie — it’s incredible.
This is something out of the world. The guys are running this place for more than 20-30 years and serve only one type of pizza everyday. And they don’t repeat that type on the other day. You need to wait in a queue for over half an hour for your turn. But the tase is amazing and pizza really juicy and well prepared. Atmosphere is very raw with a band of some old guys playing live music of seventies. Its a must visit place and if you love pizza than this should be on your bucket list.
Had a great time at The Cheese Board in Berkeley! They offer just one type of pizza each day, so no confusion — and it actually makes the line move pretty fast even though it was long when we went. We tried the pizza with organic cauliflower, baby spinach, mozzarella, curry coconut sauce, fresh lime, and cilantro. It was super fresh, flavorful, and unique. The real star for me was their mint green sauce — so refreshing and packed with flavor, easily 5/5 stars! There was also a live band playing while we ate — really good music and such a fun vibe. Highly recommend if you're in Berkeley!
I think this may be one of my favorite pizza spots (and I’m from NYC - if that means anything)! I do tend to love more vegetarian options and the fact is that this place really hit the spot. Their concept is interesting; they only do one type of speciality pizza per day. The best thing is their green sauce. If I could dip all my pizzas into that sauce, I’d be a happy camper. It does have a kick to it. The line can get really long and it’s crowded. Finding somewhere to eat was hard but worth it.

They usually have yummy vegetarian pizzas but this time it was a bland potato pizza. We ordered one regular and one gluten free. There's usually a long line so it takes a bit of time even though it moves quickly. Staff are friendly.
One kind of pizza per day. Very good. Always fresh ingredients. Love that they have live music. My favorite part. The line is always long because the people love it. Makes eating pizza feel a little healthy. The green dip is amazing. Also. The best part. I live alone. And they offer by the slice. That is so great. And they aren’t skimpy and their prices are really good especially in the present where prices in most places are way overly inflated.
One the best pizza in the US, at least for this style. There are long lines but it moves fast. It is fast because there is not much to choose from, each day there is a single flavor of pizza. I put 4 ⭐ in atmosphere because sometimes there are bands and the music is too noisy for such a small place. Also 4 ⭐ overall because there is only one flavor per day so there are days that I can't eat there because that day they have onion. At least I can see it in advance on their website. But the pizza es very good, so I recommend it.
Luckily the line was short and we got our pizza quickly and got a small Green Sauce and it was worth it! The pizza was good and greasy and the sauce helped but the grease and add some heat. The soft serve has great texture. Would definitely return again if you're looking for a great vegetarian pizza.
I don’t really understand the hype around this place. The pizza wasn’t bad, but it definitely wasn’t anything special either. The crust was decent but a little bland, the sauce lacked depth, and the toppings felt more like an afterthought than the highlight. It’s not terrible by any means, but with all the buzz surrounding it, I expected a lot more. Overall, just an average spot that seems to be overhyped for reasons I can’t figure out.
