Emilia's Pizzeria Berkeley Reviews
Great pizza, might be my favorite in the Bay Area I’ve had! We live nearby and have heard about this place for some time, so decided to see what the hype is about. It did not disappoint! This might be our new go to pizza spot, requires some planning ahead due to the online ordering system but it’s worth it.
Well, I just discovered my new favorite pizza place in SF. I’m from the east coast originally and this pie hearkens back to the classic NY style slice. Thin airy crust with just enough chew, great sauce with a little peppery kick, and toppings chosen with care.
The best. You need to go to the website and plan ahead but it’s well worth it. Every ingredient is delicious and the toppings are not too crowded - the crust has room to shine. The only time my pizza has turned out anything short of amazing was because of a distracting car accident nearby and he offered to remake the pizza since it got overcooked.
This place is an absolute gem!! Our friend recommended us this place and we finally got around to try it. Make sure if you want to try this place that you order online early! Otherwise you will have to wait a bit to pick up your pizza. We got the Gina Calabrese and it was so delicious. It’s NY style pizza and it looks like there is only one person making all the pizzas so feels very homemade but super tasty! Will be back to try other pizzas.
Best pizza crust aka under carriage. Get Dave Portnoy over here!
Absolutely incredible pizza. I recently moved here from New Jersey and was told I'd never find NJ/NY pizza but boy were they wrong. The biggest thing to keep in mind is to check their website and call at 4pm to put in your order, it's easy. And they give you an estimated time of when your pizza will be ready (either dine in or take out) and he was spot on with that time. The crust, sauce, cheese, visual, aromas, everything was exactly what I want in a pizza. And btw cash only!
Keith is legit. A lot of pies this size are overtopped and have too much sauce and cheese. Not here. His balance is perfect. His sauce is sweet, and that’s not to my personal taste but it was still delicious. The dough is the star here. Complex, tangy and subtle hints of sour. Outstanding work. I hope he gets to a point where he can get staff and more space. We need more great pizzaiolos in the bay! I say that as one myself! Great job Keith!
Officially our favorite pizza in Berkeley! One man show. Need to order early starting at 9AM. Each order gets a specific pick up time.
My favorite Pizza in the world! If your in the bay area and love Pizza you must eat Keith's pizza. Start calling at 4 to get your time slot and be on time. It's not hard folks! Thanks Keith!!! Until next time
The downsides are that you have to call in ahead of time to secure a pick-up time slot (the only table might be available if you're lucky, but it's usually reserved), and he only takes cash. But it's the best pizza I've had in Berkeley.
One of my favorite pies in the bay area. It's kind of a blend of NY style and neopolitan, with great toppings. Zero frills. Not the easiest to order, but worth it every time for me. I've had the best of NY pizzas, and in terms of quality, this is right up there for me.

Had pizza delivered. We had a Pesto Chicken pizza and there version of a supreme. Food arrived hot and was so so tasty. Had plenty of toppings, cheese and sauce. Reasonably priced and convenient. Did not disappoint. (our only issue was we didn't see the tip we left the delivery driver on the receipt he handed us, but it was on the electronic receipt. Really hope driver got his tip.)
A pizza situation without complications. we picked up our first pizza from here, the "Standard" exactly on time and it was love at first sight when we opened the lid,, we ate most of it on our drive home, discussing the high harmonies & the perfectly neutral crust. it was a 20 minute conversation. on a search for pizza that reminded us of our childhoods, whenever that was; not too acidic; floppy but with a crisp. no one is fighting in this pizza. a sad intermission while finishing the crust then biting into the next slice remembering why you love pizza all over again. by far the best pizza of this type (maybe all types) in the bay. close second (need more tastes) to mother dough in LA (RIP). thank you pizza man.
I generally shun pizza, except for my husband’s or mother-in-law’s, which are white and Roman-style. The former ordering system was a hurdle, but we finally tried it tonight. The crust is crisp and flavorful, and somehow fresh and light. It’s got char but it doesn’t taste of ash. The toppings don’t make the dough soggy and it thankfully doesn’t reek of garlic or dried oregano. Thank you!
Nice NY style pizza. Ingredients taste fresh. Must order online early to get a slot. No interior public space, just pickup at a table outside the front door. 1-2 veggie pizza, can order it without cheese to make it vegan.
This is the best pizza ! The owner is great. I loved the entire experience. Must eat ASAP. Don’t wait until you get home. Have a picnic ! Fantastic ! For those that say it’s ‘ light on toppings ‘ ..that’s how real pizza is done. American pizza slathers tons of toppings and weighs down the pie. This is Italian !
Best NY style pizza in east bay, maybe beyond. Don’t think about it, just try it
This place is a gem!! I cannot believe I lived pretty much next to it for 5 years and didn’t know about it!! The first time I tried the pizza was two days ago. I ordered both the vegetarian and the hot honey pizzas and it was delicious. I went back for the extra cheese pizza and once again, just divine!!! I actually love that it’s one person (maybe the owner?) making the pizza and taking their time. It’s visibly their craft. I can’t wait to bring it to all my friends and family to try.

Good pizza! Kind of a hybrid Neopolitan-NY style. The toppings on the classic were delicious with fresh tomato flavor. I appreciated that the toppings weren’t overloaded and it helped preserve the crust undercarriage.

Emilia’s suffers from one of the greatest fallacies in pizza along with a desperate hype-train in a quality-pizza-barren region. All the hallmarks of a social media-lauded Neapolitan style are present: Under-cooked center, I.e a crispy crust with chewy core (this one was a little bit too chewy, although I get it that some people love that), under-seasoned sauce, overpowering basil, and tasteless cheese. Another disappointing element was the heavy handedness of the fennel in the sausage. If you like licorice pizza, this might be for you. But the fennel is supposed to be there to accentuate the meat, not cover it up. Heavy fennel like this makes me question the quality of the pork. Overall the pizza was very fresh, but perhaps too fresh. Think garden salad fresh. That’s not how pizza is supposed to taste. Mozzarella, or other cheeses, are better left aged to develop rich oxidized flavors and aromas that cut through the sauce and crust. Oregano is needed to balance basil (especially when you’re using those Biano DiNapoli canned tomatoes that have been soaking in basil for months before they arrive stateside). Crust shouldn’t be doggy-chew texture inside, but rather croissant like. It’s sad that this and cheeseboard (a far worse offender) are the best the East Bay thinks they have to offer. To top it off, the pie will run you about 25-30 bucks depending on how aggressive you are with toppings. While pizza enthusiasts might find this disappointing, Emilia’s offers instagram op fare for privileged trust-fund drunk kids, which fortunately is a sustainable market in Berkeley.

The pizza tasted good but it was light on ingredients and the chef/owner really had one style-his. Don’t ask for extra Parmesan because it’s already on the pizza and no peppers available. It was good but there are so many better options that I won’t be back.
