Gather Berkeley Reviews
What a wonderful restaurant l! We we walked in Just a few minutes before 2 pm and they graciously welcomed us. The service was outstanding during our whole meal. There were accommodating to ourparty of four including a wheelchair.. I asked them for recommendations on dishes to eat and all of the dishes they recommended were spot on. We enjoyed the hamburger, Quinoa salad with chicken, cauliflower soup ,hamburger with fries As well as the deviled eggs as an appetizer. We were the last customers In the restaurant and they patiently waited for us as we finished our meal. We definitely will need to go visit this Restaurant on our next visit to Berkeley .
This spot in Berkeley has a playful and unique feel with both indoor and outdoor seating available. The sandwiches are filling without being overwhelming, and the pricing feels fair for the area. It is a great place to stop for a meal while exploring the nearby campus or checking out the modern art museum.
Great restaurant for lunch. Food was delicious. We did family style and had the deviled eggs, ahi tuna, pepperoni pizza, and butternut squash soup. All were so good I can't pick a favorite. Service was great.
What a beautiful space; definitely sit in the back area where the greenhouse and water feature are. Had an amazing caesar salad. Loved the french toast bites and the pizza. Burger was pretty good; fries were perfect.
We hosted our wedding reception at Gather this weekend and it was fabulous! Jodi, Chef Matt, Kurt, and their team are so exceptionally kind and attentive. We were lucky enough to work closed with Mika and Ivan who were so attentive, responsive and helpful with everything. Gather accommodated every food allergy request and gave us generous creativity to customize the drinks and food menu. Our top favorite recommendations on the menu: spicy tomato pizza with cashew puree, harvest bowl, corn soup, and of course all the perfectly roasted veggies!!!! The indoor space has a delightful balance of natural light, greenery, and wood and the outside garden is fabulous in the summer. We can’t wait for future celebrations at Gather and feel so grateful for the kind service and delicious memories we shared there.
The tomato pizza was absolutely phenomenal—bursting with flavor and taken to another level by the spicy chili oil and velvety cashew cream. It struck the perfect balance of heat and richness. Their local lettuce side dish was a surprisingly refreshing highlight—crisp, fresh, and full of character. The ambience was warm and thoughtfully designed, and the service made us feel genuinely welcomed from the moment we walked in.
Whether it's date night, lunch with co-workers, girls' night out, hanging with friends or simply a nice relaxing meal, @gatherberkeley is the perfect spot for those occasions. We had a fun night chatting and enjoying the delicious food and drinks. Their Pomegranate Mule and Blood Orange Spritz was so refreshing. Their Crispy Cauliflower is a must-order! So good! Their steak, pizza, and burgers were yummy and juicy. Don’t forget dessert, the Warm Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding was sinfully delicious! I’ll come back just for that.
Really nice private (in a spacious patio with a fence to separate it from the sidewalk) outdoor seating area with heating lamps! The Guava Mule was a pretty mellow drink - there's no ginger in it, which might've been nice. The sauteed calamari was better than I expected - the calamari was very tender, not chewy at all, and flavorful. It went well with the splash of lime, kumquat, fish sauce, 7 spice bread crumbs, and the slightly sweet broccoli rabe. The asparagus pizza was so yummy - the onion added a nice sweetness whenever I got a bite of it! The crust was pretty crispy, but not like a cut up the roof of your mouth crispness, and not too chewy either! What I remembered the most about the meal was the service - the expediter who delivered our pizza said, in a super chill voice, "one delicious pizza for you." 😂 And the person clearing one of our empty cocktail glasses said, "Would you like me to destroy the evidence?" 🤣
This place is a local treasure. Everything from the cosy, earthy decorations of the interior to the amazing quality of food using the freshest local produce is absolutely on point. Their mushroom and potato are beautiful. Also look out for the cute comics in their bathroom. The portion size is pretty generous , their pizza in particular is huge and can be shared by at least three people. We had a olive oil dessert consisting of lemon cake, olive oil infused cream, vanilla ice cream that was really beautiful.
The pizza dough is so so good. You can smell it when you walk in the door. The October pizza was tasty, a bit too much honey I think but tasty nonetheless. The dough made up for it! Can’t go wrong with a pepperoni or another classic they have.
We were in the Berkeley area and decided to grab dinner at Gather. Food and drinks came out super quick which was great since we were hungry. Service was very good. We got the Brussel sprouts, broccoli and mushroom pizza and the bread pudding. We also got two mocktails, which were very delicious and tasted fresh. The Brussel sprouts were delicious but could have come with a creamy sauce on the side and the bread pudding could have been slightly warmer (but was tasty nonetheless). They also have loads of vegetarian options!
Gather is a celebrated farm-to-table restaurant located right in downtown Berkeley in an open, appealing, large corner space. Fresh ingredients are definitely on the menu, with a variety of sandwich, salad, pizza, and grain bowl options. Dinner adds starters and entrees. The inside feels like a cabin with lots of reclaimed wood, and the outdoors patio is covered to keep warm and flowing with plants. It’s quite inviting. I went at lunch, and it wasn’t immediately apparent that ordering at the register is how lunch operates as a podium with “wait to be seated” was stationed right at the entrance. Dinner is, indeed, seated with waitstaff. My friend ordered the soup of the day, which was white bean and potato. She thought it absolutely delicious, savoring each bite. I ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich, topped with a slaw and dill-cucumber yogurt and served up with fries. The coleslaw crunch made clear the quality of Gather’s ingredients, but I was surprised that the dish ended up tasting closer to a sloppy joe than I what I’d expected—this may partially be due to my eight years spent in North Carolina, where vinegar sauces on pork reign supreme. Or it may partially be that the tomato in the sauce was so fresh and bright, it simply dominated the dish. I was disappointed that the dill-cucumber sauce contributed little in terms of flavor. I love dill, so I was looking forward to it, but alas, it barely raised its head. The fries were solid. Definitely would go back but would probably skip the pulled pork sandwich.
Loved this place. Great atmosphere. Good prices. Nice guest and staff. Desert was magnificent. Unfortunately we were chased out because of other people needing table. We were there for a birthday and would of stayed longer if waiters were not nagging us to leave. Pepperoni pizza best I've had since new York.
I went back a decade later hopeful that this would fill a neighborhood need with an organic, farm-to-table, high quality restaurant. We found the service to be friendly and WE caught an error about our GF item (they gave us a non GF bun). The food was mediocre at best. A bit shocked that it isn’t held to a higher standard! I will not be returning.
I ate here last week and ordered the mussels. They came with no bread, so I asked for some. The mussels were good but I needed something to soak up the yummy sauce. They charged me $7.00 for the bread. Why were the mussels served without bread anyway? But $7.00 for a few pieces of bread? Does anyone else find that ridiculous? And when I wanted the check I waited so long that I finally had to get up and go ask the bartender where my waiter was. It was a totally strange experience for a very typical meal. I would not go back. Too bad. It’s a nice place with a lovely patio.
My falafel burger was super dry and quite plain. I only took 2 bites because it was hard to swallow and not flavorful enough to try. The fries were whatever. The space was pretty and service was good but I wouldn't go back because I didn't enjoy the food. Someone beside me got a chicken wrap and it looked like one you find at a grocery store deli. She said it was fine. Apparently the grilled cheese was good.
I have never done two things before last night: send food back to the kitchen (more than once!) or write a Google review. When we arrived, just after 4, there were only a few tables filled. The host asked if we had a reservation, and when we said we didn't, she said she could only seat us at the bar overlooking the food prep area. My partner was puzzled by this, but I assured her that they likely had a lot of reservations coming up. However, the place was only about 1/4 full by the time we left. I hadn't eaten anything since breakfast, so I was pretty hungry. I ordered the grapefruit tonic and the harvest bowl because I eat rice bowls all the time and hoped it would be a comforting and nourishing dish. My partner ordered the salmon. As we waited, we debated and finally decided on adding an order of the bacon-wrapped dates as well. The grapefruit tonic was refreshing, and I enjoyed it, though I don't think it was worth $9 for a bit of sparkling grapefruit juice and a sprig of thyme. The dates arrived, and we were excited to dive in. They were stuffed with bland sausage, wrapped in bacon, and set on pepper sauce—fine, but not worth $16. The meals arrived as we were just starting on the dates. My partner said her salmon was decent, but there were hardly any vegetables to go with it, and the ones that were there tasted strongly of cooking oil. My harvest bowl, on the other hand, was inedible. I kept trying to eat it, but all I could taste was stale cooking oil. I ate the hardboiled egg, which was perfectly fine, but nothing else in the bowl had any flavor other than cooking oil. I was really nervous about telling the server I couldn't eat the dish because I was raised to eat whatever I was given, so I usually find a way to choke down almost anything. I was also raised to be deferential to waitstaff, so it was quite a challenge to speak up for myself. I did so nervously, apologizing to her, and she seemed OK with it and took the dish away and asked me if I'd like anything else. I decided to order a gluten free pizza because I figured it'd be hard to mess that up, and it also shouldn't have a lot of cooking oil on it. Plus, I thought, it'd be good to have some leftovers. The pizza arrived quickly. However, I took one bite of it, and was shocked at how bad it was -- it was simply inedible. The sausage felt rubbery and almost raw in my mouth in addition to being completely flavorless and oily. The sauce and cheese had no flavor, and the crust was one of the worst gluten-free crusts I've ever had in over 16 years of being gluten-free. I think the server may have overheard me exclaim to my partner in shock, "this is awful!" and she came over and asked how things were. All of my socialization kicked in, and I told her it was fine, then I tried a few more times to pick at the slice of pizza. At this point, I'd lost my appetite and felt pretty disappointed, so we asked for the check. When the server asked if I wanted a box for the pizza, I told her no and I apologized and let her know that I also found it inedible. (I didn't tell her this, but I didn't even want to bring the pizza leftovers home for my dog!) I am very appreciative that she removed the two worst items from our bill, but I ended up paying over $83 for some grapefruit juice with thyme, 2 dates, and a hardboiled egg (plus my partner's salmon). I understand that people have different tastes in food, but I cannot understand how anyone finds this edible or worth the price. Maybe I just got extremely unlucky with the dishes I ordered, or something was off with the cooking oil last night? I'm genuinely uncertain whether this was a catastrophic off-night for the kitchen or a consistent problem, but either way, I can't recommend it based on what I experienced. At least I got some practice speaking up for myself. Is that worth $83? I'm not so sure.
Asked our server for extra sauce and condiments and he forgot about it. Finally had to walk over and interrupt 4 other employees talking amongst themselves to ask for it again. Had to do the same thing to pay the check. It wasn't busy at all, only 2 other tables had customers. Food is overrated and overpriced. Very mid, unseasoned burger and fries for $22 is crazy. Pizza is fine but there are several higher quality places within minutes from here. Also with more reasonable prices. The property itself and decor are nice. I can't speak for the vegans but anyone else could do much better elsewhere.
