The interior design is terrific with the velvet rope curtain, the huge orange arch and the colorful mural. The food is also very good and they serve the best lattes

Great food, a different stew every day. Comfortable atmosphere, and sometimes you get a free jazz concert. My favorite lunch spot!

Stopped by this café in Berkeley and loved it. The place has a warm, relaxed vibe with just the right amount of buzz from people studying and chatting. The coffee was excellent—smooth, rich, and clearly made with care. I tried their cappuccino and it was perfectly balanced. The staff were friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy what they do, which adds to the atmosphere. There’s plenty of seating, good Wi-Fi, and a nice mix of indoor and outdoor spots. Great place to work for a few hours or just hang out and unwind. Definitely coming back.

What a hidden gem! I didn’t knew they were here the atmosphere is absolutely beautiful and cozy and the service was immaculate. The barista was very welcoming and he had a beautiful smile. Highly recommend and try their amazing cappuccino. Also not to forget the hours are amazing.

My regular go-to at least once a week. Can't beat the super nice staff, great owner and great quality food. Lots of menu options with an excellent specials menu that changes every day and always includes a vegetarian soup, a panini, a salad and a stew. The protein choices offered are amazingly varied. I really enjoyed the swordfish salad. I often get the grilled goat cheese salad. Had a stew last week, and it was perfectly thick, chunky and full of flavor.

Great service, cute spot, good coffee. They don't have live jazz performances in the cafe anymore, sadly, but it's still a nice place to relax and unwind. I know some people feel otherwise, but I personally love the "no laptops" policy; makes it feel like a real old-time neighborhood café. Will definitely come back.

Stopped for lunch and tried the daily special Panini: Applewood smoked bacon. The sandwich was good. Side salad was missing sauce (vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper fixed that). AC / not working - there was no fixing that :-)

Walk half a block from the busiest street in Berkeley and down a flight a stairs, and you find a lovely setting: the Jazz Caffe. Although the menu is limited, the lunch specials are always enjoyable, tasty, and hearty servings. It's easy to sit and linger there while you chat because the nearby hustle and bustle doesn't penetrate this place.

Surprisingly one of the best places to get espresso based coffee in Berkeley. It can sometimes be loud when there are performances on. They ban laptops around lunch hours. Some staff are super friendly and some can be a bit inattentive. Nevertheless, I keep coming back for the coffee and a quiet place to read a book.

I had the best ever Turkey sandwich. All if the trimmings were fresh: the lettuce, the cucumbers, the tomatoes. There was some sauce on the panini that opened your nostrils. Perhaps horseradish or some type or gourmet mustard. Whatever.... very yummy.

No bathroom available for clients apparently, got asked to leave one hour before declared closing time. Was empty when we went in at 4:30…probably for a reason

I used to come here fairly often, and it was one of my favorite cafes in the downtown area. It's got great food, good coffee, and the ladies working there are polite and attentive. However, the place has soured for me because of the attitude of the manager. I've never been to a cafe where I was asked to move because I was "studying" during lunchtime. That is to say, reading while enjoying my paid coffee and pastry at one of the corner tables. The manager insisted I move outside because "the older people" liked to sit there to eat at lunchtime, but why should I be the one to move given that other customers can just as easily sit outside? Would customers actually get offended if there are no seats left within the cafe? Doubt it. Meanwhile I've caused no disruption and am also a paying customer. The attitude, to me, stinks of greed and disrepect. If the manager wants to enforce those kinds of restrictive policies he's in the wrong line of business. It's a cafe, not a restaurant.

Walked in on an empty day, the lady working there kept her gaze on me the whole time, and told me I couldn’t sit down if I didn’t buy anything, as I was checking the menu, she proceeded to stare and “fix” everything I touched, she said “what are you doing” everytime I touched a menu… I proceeded to leave as it was an uncomfortable, and profiling experience (mind you, I walked in with books as I’m a student just looking to study)

Barista was chatting on the phone using an earbud throughout our interaction. Croissant was stale. For the privilege of this inattentive service, I was charged nine dollars. Barista could hardly tear herself away from her phone conversation to ask me basic questions like what kind of croissant I wanted. When she was chatting on the phone, I said, excuse me? (Thinking she was addressing me) and she pointed to her ear and looked at me like I was interrupting. What a letdown. Why do we as a society create this kind of problem? I live most of the time in Europe. I can’t wait to get back there. Nobody makes you coffee while talking on the phone. Visit was 3:20 pm Friday August 29.
