Comal Next Door Berkeley Reviews
This place is great for a quick lunch. I tried their Molette, it was very flavorful! Highly recommend it.They have some pretty good vegetarian options. Would def like to revisit again and try more!
Amazing food and great service. Recommend the asparagus and guacamole. Fish tacos were solid but not the best dish we ate.
Prices were decent. Food was good. Their few cocktail drinks were nice. Small space. Didn't even notice it existed for 6 months... It works. I've never gone to comal but now that I've had this I want to try!
Acceptable choice if your group is struggling to decide on a place to go to for lunch

OKAY. SERIOUSLY. THE SALAD. the ingredients are SO FRESH! and they pile it IN! Everything in my bowl is brightly colored. (Have you ever gotten a salad and the lettuce is white and it's like two things in there and disappointing?) SHOUTOUT TO THE CHEFS. 🤌🏻
I’ve eaten here for lunch 1-2 times a week for the past two years - Comal Nextdoor is worth every penny. While it’s slightly more expensive than most food in downtown Berkeley, the key word is “slightly.” The portions are massive — I could happily split a burrito with someone else. The service is also really fast. Today, I got my burrito in maybe 2 minutes, I’d say the average is 4-7 minutes. Can’t recommend the chicken burrito highly enough, either.
Love Comal the restaurant and have been going there for years, but only recently tried out Comal Next Door. As expected, the food was as good as it's namesake 💯 I had the fried chicken torta which was great. Chicken was juicy and fried perfectly. The roll was quite soft and fluffy but also didn't fall apart.
This is my Platonic ideal of a burrito. The potatoes, eggs, and beans are perfectly cooked. The homemade chorizo really takes it a step above. And if you eat in, their fantastic hot sauce is just the cherry on top!
Great food but very pricey.

The tacos is better good compared to other tacos I have had in the area although it is a bit pricier.

It’s the “fast food” version of the full service restaurant next door. Our group had some tacos and burritos that left us reasonably happy.
Went there twice so far, ordered the bowl al pastor both times. On the first try the portion received (to go) was quite small and lacking lettuce. The second bowl was more appropriate given the price. Probably birthing pains on the first week of opening. Both times it was excellent! Food arrived within 5 minutes of order. They also have interesting drinks but again with a significant markup.
Is it me or does it look like my rellino was cut in half? Normally when I order this it takes up 1/2 the bowl! Dissapointed today :(

I think it's unethical to add the $1.99 "Restaurant Operations Fee" to the posted price. The posted price should be the total price except for tax which we usually know about. Overpriced food with the fee.
Ordered chicken burrito to go. Portions are generous but the chicken was too salty. The beans had a rich homemade flavor but again a bit too salty. Meal was okay but I’d be willing to give them a second shot.

The service was cold, and the food was microwaved. Chilie relleno was soggy and buried in a salad. The lettuce was crisp and fresh. And the guacamole was tasty. Sadly I prefer Chipotle... And I really wanted to like this location 😞
Talk about a soggy bottom. We ordered a bunch of tacos and a salad. The tortillas were the wettest I’ve ever had in my life. The veggies were bland overall. The mushroom tacos had more flavor and the barilla was decent. Oh but the nightmare of the juicy tortilla was so disappointing. Also, the salad dressing was tangy and sour, but not in a good way. The East Bay demands better taco game than this y’all.

Super unimpressed. Lackadaisical staff, but you pay 15% mandatory tip. $6 for tiny tacos. Spent $20 for three of them and left hungry. They were ok, the chicken is the best, carnitas and al pastor were mediocre.

I called the store before placing the DoorDash order and clearly stated that I did not want any hot sauce and left my DoorDash name. As a result, the food I received was still spicy and I couldn't eat it at all. Now I called them but they were closed. I had to order my dinner from another restaurant again, which wasted my $27 and had a terrible night.
I rarely write reviews but I was so disappointed. I ordered the caesar and the fried chicken torta and was really hungry after a long day. The torta bread was soggy. OK, fine, I can deal with a little soggy bread. But the meat was inedible. It was chewy, off-color, and had a weird taste. It seemed to have gone bad. I could tell it was low quality. It was pretty much inedible and I basically had to throw out my whole sandwich---really frustrating given how much they charge. The salad was very disappointing as well. The quality of the lettuce was on its last legs. Many of the leaves were starting to turn red. Both dishes not only lacked flavor, but the ingredients were not fresh and on their last legs. Never doing either Comal again. Do not come here.
Avoid them they charge restaurants operating$3.75 fee even on Togo there Mexican food is mediocre even for Berkeley case. Go the Tacos Sinaloa or las Cabana it cheaper by $5-7 same for Sinaloa
