Oceanview Diner Berkeley Reviews
One of the best breakfast spots in the bay! Swap your toast for a freshly baked pastry. Homemade sausage. Super fast service. They know what they're doing. I recommend the ham and cheese omelette
Great food, friendly servers, usually a significant wait, but there are plenty of fun shops to wander around. Be aware that the largest group they can accommodate is 5 and that's putting one person at the end of what is basically a four-seat booth. It's fine if you know that's what you're signing up for, but might be an unpleasant surprise if you didn't know.
Wandered in here and was we were greeted warmly by the staff , got a table and the great service started , server was attentive and gave recommendations ended up with the BLTA and tangy slaw and that was really amazing. Wife ordered eggs and bacon portion were amazing overall a great experience and would recommend we will be back here again to dine !
Excellent food and portion size! High paced atmosphere, but not annoyingly loud. A can't miss for breakfast!
The new owners do keep up the old vibe and cool menu. I always get the Philadelphia breakfast with scrapple that is as good as any, fried eggs, sourdough toast and fried tomatoes. They know how to fry scrapple, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Eggs are good. My wife gets the Maryland breakfast with corned beef hash, which she loves. Staff is super friendly, particularly the greeter, who is super social. Their homemade blackberry jam is more of a compote but tasty on the sourdough. All in all it is a diner as you expect it. Doesn't have the old jukebox and floating pie but is still classic.
Much enjoyed the Mexican scrambled eggs for breakfast. Good coffee. Came back the next day for a stack of pancakes and a glass of chocolate with whipped cream. Service was v. good. While the food is good, what I really enjoyed was the staff who look like they enjoy their work and working with each other.
Diner is defined (in my definition) a place where you meet new friends not yet met, a place where waitstaff have a vibe that welcomes you in. A place that makes you feel like g'ma is in the back, YELLIN' at the kids to get out of the kitchen... A place where the food is great and not even talked about, because there's a line out front.... A place where the owners are hobblin' around on a soft cast making sure everyone else is taken care of. A place where the other owner is meeting everyone and everyone knows his name. A place where the locals know the kitchen staff and the tourists feel right at home... This is the spot... Thank me later...
Haven't been here in years, and was not disappointed. Just as good as I recalled, or better. Yummy eggs, oh, so! soft, just perfect! Delicious latte. Friendly folks all around. Not cheap, but well worth it. No one should start the day with a disappointing breakfast!
Super good food breakfast and got sat real quick. It's an old-fashioned dinner at its finest with enough space for many👌 I ordered the herb omelet and it was delightful. Airy, light, and cheesy. Potatoes were outstanding, and the waffle with fruit was perfect. They even serve hot chocolate!
It was a great experience all around! The staff was super nice and welcoming, we went with our dog and they even gave him a treat. They've got a good variety of options and we were all pretty satisfied. Would recommend the potato pancakes and the chicken sandwich with pepper (the bread was so fresh it was still warm!!) Plus the drinks were pretty big
Great location in the middle of a great little part of Berkeley. Old diner vibes with good food to match. It met expectations and was definitely a place that I would try again. The salmon hash was great and the biscuit. Oh the biscuit. Somehow the biscuit stayed nice and hot throughout our time there.
We came here for breakfast and had a fantastic meal. We ordered the buttermilk pancakes, New York everything bagel platter, potato pancakes, banana rum soufflé pancakes, and 2 sunny side up eggs with home fries and chorizo. We really enjoyed the banana rum soufflé pancakes, and the buttermilk pancakes are the best pancakes we’ve ever had, as they’re so thick, light, and fluffy. We will definitely come back again when we’re back in Berkeley!
🚙 Our plan was to drive to Berkeley and find a restaurant to satisfy our sweet cravings with some delightful French toast 🍞 After Parking in the neighborhood, memories of this restaurant from a previous visit flooded back and we decided to secure a spot on the waiting list. We were informed of an approximate 30-minute wait so we took this time to take a leisurely stroll around nearby stores 🏬 🚶 It was raining, and store hopping made it a fun way to spend our time 🌧️ ☔️ The restaurant, though small, exuded charm, with an intimate and inviting ambiance. Seated at the back, we enjoyed front-row views of the busy kitchen, the syrup station, and even the bathroom. We were able to see everything and everyone 😂 I enjoyed being observant. The French toast was delicious. Despite my love for hot chocolate, the density of their version left me wanting something more sweet. Thank you for the exceptional service, and a special shout-out to the bilingual Spanish speaking employees who made our overall experience pleasant. Lastly, we enjoyed the background music 🎵 🎶 There were many food options on the menu so we’ll definitely come back to explore more options. Hasta la próxima y gracias por su atención.
Oceanview Diner had absolutely amazing food, very reasonably priced. Definitely a must visit for those who are looking for a great American breakfast or brunch. Tips: the corned beef hash, and chili, are both homemade (something I always ask about when I see it on a menu 😋😁), and either souffle is a fantastic item to share. Order it as far enough in advance, because it takes about 30-40 minutes to prepare and cook.

Food was pretty good. The syrup was the best. Drawn and kept warm so the drizzle on the toast and souffle was delightful. The place is super busy. I had to wait sometime for the syrup because I got my souffle (takes longer than other food to prepare they warned ahead of time) before the syrup came.
Please add an option for dressing on the side in online salad orders. More importantly, can you please make it possible to pick up online orders without waiting in the line where people are ordering? And please don't ask me to sign a receipt with tip option after I have already paid, and chosen a tip amount, online. Great spot, reasonable prices.
When Bette's announced that they were closing we were crestfallen.....and then Bette's announced that its staff would be opening again as The Oceanview and we were relieved. The food here is solid if a little overpriced. But that's fine: it's worth it and the clientele in the area can support the place longterm. I mean, Bette's was Bette's for _decades_ and you don't remain if your food isn't up to par. Especially on 4th street. The service can be a little slow but it's understandable; I've never seen them underwhelmed. The menu is generous and Darryl treats each dish like he invented it. Which might actually be the case, but no matter. We've never been disappointed. Just _go_.

Went in on a Saturday for brunch with friends. They were very busy and did not take reservations. We sat after our full party had arrived. It was my first time here and I felt it was just okay. They didn't have a lot of options on the menu. I ordered the bagel plate and shared it with a friend who ordered the potato cakes. The bagel was good ( hard to mess up a bagel!) but the potatoes were bland. We also stopped at the bakery attached to the restaurant. I got cookies and brownies for the family. We all had the same opinions of very dry and not good for the pastries.
If you love waiting in line, this is the perfect place for you. I have been here numerous times and not once was the wait less than an hr. If the food was divine, then maybe it is worth it, but it is not. However, it is not bad by any means. My eggs was cooked just right, the bacon was crispy and everything else was good. Unfortunately, nothing blew me away and I left wanting my 2-3hrs back from waiting and eating.
The food is fine, nothing special. I know inflation is a problem these days but the prices here are just crazy. With tax and tip it cost me $40 for an omelette and a cup of coffee today.

Nothing special about this place. Average fever rated. I rather get the McDobalds breakfast platter than this place. Service suck. ambience suck.
