Zut! Berkeley Reviews
We celebrated a birthday at Zut! On Fourth Street, and it was absolutely marvelous from start to finish! The atmosphere is cozy and charming — perfect for a special occasion without feeling over-the-top. It strikes that rare balance between intimate and lively. Parking was luckily easy for us, but I’d definitely recommend allowing a little extra time since Fourth Street can get busy. It’s worth the effort, though! The food was perfection from the appetizers all the way to the steak — every bite was flavorful and beautifully prepared. Huge shout-out to Chef Noah, who was on staff that night. He was spectacular! You can truly taste the care and talent in every dish. We’ll definitely be trying to come back when he’s working his magic again. The cocktails were delicious, well-balanced, and thoughtfully crafted, and the staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout the evening. 10 out of 10 — highly recommend! We can’t wait to return.
Went for brunch and sat at the bar. Great options across the menu. I had the eggs Benedict with salmon and it was absolutely incredible. I highly recommend it. Some of the best hollandaise sauce I’ve ever had.
Enjoyed an evening dinner - gold and red beets salad with cheese and a juicy pork chop with arugula, apples, roasted pecans, and bacon finished with a nice islamic or glazed dressing. Excellent service! Great ambience! A very satisfying meal!
Even better than I expected. We both had the filet mignon and flourless chocolate cake with the Graham's 20-year port for dessert. Menu and receipt is attached to my post. Great menu selection and wait staff was attentive without making us feel rushed. Perfect background music for the setting. Love how 4th street is all lit up there.
I’m not sure why this place is rated so poorly. This is my second time dining here. Both times have been at lunch time by myself. Both times the food has impressed me. Today, the BLTA with a side Caesar is hitting the spot. Would definitely recommend. (They served me a full sandwich - already housed the first half before taking this picture lol)
Great service, food and atmosphere. Great little secret in Berkeley. Did not need reservations mid week but you may want to get them on weekends. Avg per person price $50 +/- not including alcohol. Salmon was remarkable.
Extremely impressed! Just happened to be passing while hungry, checked out the menu and in the end was so pleasantly surprised! Soup of the day was clam chowder which was clean and tasted so fresh. I got the smoked salmon omelet which comes with breakfast style potatoes. Overall enjoyable and the customer service was excellent!

Good food and good service, very comfortable place to hang out for lunch or dinner! Expect American Italian food and American European cusine It’s not 100% Italian food because they also serve fish and chips!

The staff was friendly and efficient. The cocktails on offer were delicious - especially the non-alcoholic cocktails were a surprisingly delicious find. Food was flavorful and nuanced and arrived at the table piping hot.
Drove up from San Jose to meet with out of state family and this was recommended. Beautiful atmosphere, fantastic service, and decent pricing. Many great, delicious choices and all with good size portions. You can eat outdoors or inside comfortably. Other restaurant owners should send a couple of spies over to observe and understand why a great and friendly restaurant such as Zut! Is always busy with happy customers. Parking can be an issue on weekends due to that Berkeley area being so popular, but go for it.

Our almost monthly lunch spot. It continues to provide excellence on all aspects. The salmon salad is new and fantastic.

Had two pizzas and the food is great. We celebrate the family birthday there. Just hope the service can be better. We wait for a while and we need to order more later. The service put us wait for a long while. Like the pizzas
I wanted to try this place because of the Onion Soup Gratinee!! It has been a while since I had seen that on a menu. Being Canadian, I have fond memories of this dish and even made it at home from scratch many times. Before I talk about the soup, we were ushered into a nearly empty dining room at an early dinner hour on a weekday. Even with so few customers, it was a very long time before somebody came to take our drink order. Service was painfully slow all night. I’m fine with leisurely service at an upscale restaurant but this was extreme. We ordered the raw oysters: 4 very lonely oysters on a huge platter of ice!! Delicious as they were with a raspberry vinaigrette minionette, they looked so sparse presented that way! The single crab cake looked somewhat unappealing, pressed into a flat hamburger-patty shape, rather than a plumper, hand-formed shape. Sorry, I forgot to take a photo of this. Both the onion soup and the pizza were good but not spectacular.
One of my high school classmates treated me to lunch at Zut's. She booked the reservation for 12:30 PM. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were seated promptly. The weather was nice for outdoor dining. After perusing the menu, I decided to have the crab sandwich with avocado on toasted sourdough bread and a side of spring mix salad drizzled with a vinaigrette dressing. Drawbacks: Nice presentation of the Arnold Palmer, but the tea overwhelmed the lemonade. It was okay, but I had better elsewhere. I did not finish the beverage. I wasn't feeling it. Bread was fine without the butter. Restaurant added salt to the butter. The buttered bread was very salty. Service was prompt and the waiter was attentive and pleasant. Restaurant is receiving a 4 star rating for the crab sandwich with a side salad, and customer service. Future visit? Yes, if I am in the neighborhood for the Margherita pizza.
Ok breakfast/lunch restaurant on trendy Fourth St. Rose wine was very nice, crisp and refreshing. Eggs Benedict was perfectly cooked but the breakfast potatoes were a little under seasoned. There was a good portion of crab in the sandwich with fresh salad leaves. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
Very pricy brunch, $75 for two people for meals + coffee. The good: the French toast was outrageously good, it was everything a mound of young Parisian dough could aspire to be when it grows up. The bad: the sausage links were dry. They were more akin to a pair of cigarillos left out in the Sonoran desert to desiccate, after the 10th “record breaking hottest day” in history. Avoid. The potatoes and eggs definitely needed salt.
Went there primarily for the jazz music, which was very good. They were located more as an afterthought, so I hope the owners create more desirable arrangement. Food very good and adequate portions.
This is a solid choice in the area. I was invited to meet a few friends for lunch during the week and they selected Zut! With both indoor and outdoor seating I suspect this is not a hard reservation. Our severs were great and everything came out quick and tasty.

Nice lunch. Nothing spectacular, but solid with an enjoyable atmosphere. Worth a try if you need a bite to eat and are in the area.
We like ZUT! for drinks after work. Decided to try it out for Lunch. Food was delicious, however had to wait 30mins for the server to take our Order. Did notice only 1 server for all tables. Will give them another try

Finally decided to try this place after walking by it for years. The staff was nice but dinner service was extremely slow. It would've been nice if they had some bread or nuts to make the wait less torturous. The entrees and dessert tasted good but they are overpriced for the portions; I left hungry. My pork chop had a couple areas near the bone that were uncooked so I didn't get to finish an already small pork chop. The atmosphere was casual and pleasant.
The atmosphere is charming, but the food really is not great. The spaghetti in my $27 (vegetarian) plate was clearly run of the mill spaghetti out of the box. Not even nice dried spaghetti. It's a nice atmosphere, but the last few times I've come, the food has really dropped off.
