Romeo's Coffee Berkeley Reviews
First of all let's start with the service,.. Friendly, attentive, very courteous. Next let's talk about the food..... The sandwiches and the breakfast sandwiches are so great they should have been a sandwich bar instead of a coffee bar. Best avocado toast Made with professional love. Lastly let's talk about the coffee... Whatever you want and if you don't see it on the menu they will make it for you, If you are tired, Red Bull with 8 different flavors. Sports drinks of every kind. They even have ice cream with a shot of espresso poured over it. When it's hot you need something cold they have slushies. (Remember slushes) If you are in Berkeley this is a must try location!!!
Jose makes the best drinks fr and great service!!
Dont know why there are some really negative reviews here. This was my first time but I had a pleasant experience. Good coffee with a reasonable price, good vibes, and the employee was also nice to me.
Great local coffee shop! Super friendly staff, awesome artwork and chill music make for a welcoming and cool hang out spot. Spacious seating for individuals, pairs or groups. Compost available for those environmentally friendly caffeine drinkers like myself. Highly recommend stopping in and grabbing a coffee if nearby!
Best coffee in town in my personal opinion , way fairer priced than blue bottle for a drip coffee with exquisite tastes , baristas are super helpful as well with any questions if recommendations are needed ,
cute lil spot right off campus, great for studying and brain food. service was lovely and i appreciated staff helping with recommendations!
The tea, coffee is great, the service is great, and the people are friendly. Very clean and a great place to study/work.
All staff is unbelievably nice and accommodating with any item ordered. Seriously my favorite coffee and sandwich place.
☕☕☕ 🥪🥪 I love this place, food is great, try the breakfast sandwich with bacon, real good, and I had ice cold drink, called love potion #9, so my thoughts are, very cool place, staff seems to be always happy, and very helpful and clean. My choice for when I visit Berkeley or in town, ok enjoy.😊😊
My coffee go to spot for years, love it. Awesome coffee and food. Clea ,safe and friendly.
Everything at Romeo's is out of this world! I don't know which sandwich and juice are my favorite but my top three are: Grub 1. Good Girl Gonr Bad 2. Seduced in Seconds (the mayo) 3. Midnight to Mystery Drank: 1. Sin By Chance 2. Aphrodisiac 3. Laugh to Insanity And in that order. Whatever you choose, just eat!
Love the place! The staff is friendly and everything tastes great!
Excellent coffee for a reasonable price- close to campus as well.
Large, spacious space with lots of tables and leather chairs, bright lighting and large windows. Definitely going to be coming here a lot! The egg sandwich & latte are delicious!
I always feel welcome when I come through the doors. The coffee feels more robust than drip coffee made from a machine. I like drinking real coffee not americanos
What a pleasant surprise! I honestly didn't think a sandwich could taste this good. Fancy looking but with good prices and great service
love the overall vision of this place, especially the fun menu items and names. the sandwiches are amazing and the coffee really rich
Best coffee and ambiance in Berkeley. I wish it was open past 5, but that just shows how much I’d want to stay here longer. Highly recommend
I had 2 empanadas and a cup of coffee. One Beef and one chicken. These are great and affordable. The coffee ☕️ is just smooth. Found a gem on this one.
I usually dine in and it’s an awesome, sweet, welcoming environment. There is plenty of seating and outlets for charging electronics which makes it a great place to study or do some work. It’s also a friendly environment and you often see people chatting with friends. The staff is so sweet! I forgot my laptop charger once and they were so generous and let me borrow theirs. Food is so yummy too! I love the smoothies and breakfast sandwich — as a vegetarian I get lettuce and tomato instead of bacon!
Love this coffee shop! Very convenient location right by campus. I usually dine in in-between classes and it's always a relaxed environment - perfect for getting some work done or light reading. Service is always amazing, I'd highly recommend trying the Iced Pistachio Latte and Lox Bagel. Plenty of outlets and fast wi-fi.
Amazing service, I’m always greeted with the biggest smile and I always feel so welcomed here. The food is delicious and the drinks are so amazing and carefully curated to make your taste buds explode in the best way. This is the best coffee shop on telegraph and more people should come here!!
Romeo’s was an incredible experience! The staff was so kind and welcoming, and it was enjoyable to have a great conversation along with an incredible drink. I had a guava lemonade which was very refreshing and my friend got a matcha latte, which she loved. Jose, who made our drinks was so kind and sociable as well :)
Haven’t had the food yet, but the drinks have been great! Solid lattes and the eggnog latte was a nice treat. Good service and a fun atmosphere, the tables and set-up are cozy and the music is not too loud :)
The staff here are SO FRIENDLY and go above and beyond to create a great customer experience!! They always remember my order and are so kind! Would highly recommend

Cool hangout spot and friendly service, not the best latte in town though.
lots of seating, sleek ambience, and AWESOME concept! im a lovergirl, and all their drink items (juices, coffees, smoothies) are love themed it is so cool i have never come across anything like it. it would be good if they did hot coffees in the smaller sized cups (you can only get 16oz which is a good amount but i dont always want that much) but anyway it was good! i got their “light my fire” and it was very sweet but i was in the mood for it and the flavour was very nice. i also LOVE that they give a hershey’s kiss with their coffee because yum. i definitely want to try their pour over next time!
Stopped in for a latte. The woman helping was super kind and helpful with suggestions. I tried the Redemption half sweet and loved it. Would’ve loved a bit more ice but it was good. The teen kids all tried something different and everyone enjoyed their picks. Restrooms were clean and so was the seating area.

The place looks like a coffee shop and has a vibe that way too. However, the coffee is undrinkable. My espresso tasted like the wash-water of an ashtray.
Very nice people, didn't really enjoy my experience. Asked if they had vegan empanadas, they said mushroom and impossible meat, I said I'll take one of each and an oat milk cappucino. I notice while waiting sign outside says mushroom empanada comes with cheese, I ask if it has cheese, they check and say yes. I tell them no thanks since it isn't vegan. I ask if there's anything else I could have in place of the 7 or 8 dollar empanada I won't be having. They say no. No refund is offered, they just ask if I want to take the non vegan empanada to give to someone else. I mean y'all told me it was vegan but now I'm out 7 bucks? Whack. The cappuccino also has way too much oat milk and has an off smell. Not really happy.
This place was a weird experience. We came in to order a drink. When we asked to use the restroom, the staff made sure we know it’s for paying customers only (each customers need their own drink to use restroom). Well, that’s fine with us but when she tried using the restroom she was stopped more than once and interrogated. I’m not sure whether this policy was implemented due to the homeless population but we don’t look anything of the sorts. It gave us an uncomfortable feeling. I didn’t get kicked out for having an outside drink though (a reviewer mentioned that had happened to them). As for the coffee itself, she ordered the cupids potion which supposed to have vanilla beans and blueberry. It ended up just tasting like regular black coffee you’d get from a brewer at your office. I’d had expected more with their prices. Can be an one off kind of thing! Hoping other people have better luck with their coffee. Other than that, the place is well kept pretty occupied.

This place is pretty expensive and they tend to nickle and dime for a cafe based in a university/college town. I already bought two items from them in the morning, and later in the afternoon needed to send an email. They made me buy another item to get the wifi password, despite already spending more than $10 there just a few hours prior. One time I put in an electronic order for coffee and my boyfriend and I were drinking the order we placed inside the cafe. They yelled at him for using the restroom because he didnt purchase anything. He had to show them the cups I had already purchased. Later on, I went to use the restroom. The same thing happened from another cashier! We didn't even get an apology. It's ridiculous, if you have to gatekeep basic amenities from customers who are already clearly paying for services/food to that extent, then that's concerning!
I came to just join my friends in between classes to catch up. I pulled out a can of pringles and the manager proceeded to approach me saying that I can’t have outside food. I apologized sincerely but was met with “well there’s signs everywhere”. In 5 mins, another worker walks up and says we all have to leave because we didn’t pay, but my friends did pay for food and threw out the wrappers after finishing. I just felt watched in the ten minutes I was there and just left, my friends (who were customers) soon left too.

Walked in for the need of a bathroom. At the counter there is a sign that states to use the bathroom, it’s $3 per person. I paid for a water so that my friend can use the bathroom. When we paid, she went to one side of the the door and so i went over to stand with her, but when i did that, a cashier stopped me and asked if i am going as well and that I have to pay. I told her that it was just my friend, the cashier then taps on the man whom I assume is security. He is intimidating looking to say the least… but when she tapped on his shoulder, he turned and said “you know you have to pay for the bathroom”, I then go “yeah I know, she is just going” he then says “good” and turns around, but it was the way he approached us that made me feel intimidated. This is illegal to say the least
The high prices are not worth dealing with how rude the male employee was.
Quite disappointed with my experience here, the coffee was subpar and the service was upsetting. Less than an hour before closing, a worker commented that one of the members at our table did not order anything and threatened to kick this person out despite the fact that there were multiple tables without orders. Our table was not causing any disruptions and, while I do not like to make such assertions, I did notice that ours was the only table which was primarily Hispanic. I would not recommend going to this business again, especially with hints of racial profiling.
Wife, 3 year old daughter, and I were next in line to order. Daughter says she needs bathroom badly. Wife was ordering our coffees when we walked toward the bathroom and two employees jumped and blocked the door. I explained that my wife just bought our coffee. They didn’t care. At all. To the owner who pointed at the sign that only paying customers can use the bathroom, you have a lot to learn. You and your establishment are gross. Worst experience and worst customer service. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. They don’t deserve your business.
Just saw the owner/manager verbally and almost physically assault at a customer for using the bathroom because he didn’t remember her purchasing a drink. Racist white manager yelling about “you people” to customers. Do not visit if you value your comfort or safety.
The owner/manager is on an insane power trip and NEEDS to be stopped. This guy sucks and harassed my friend for using the bathroom after she and her boyfriend bought a drink. Also the drinks SUCK
My friends and I went there to have coffee for the first time and once we were done we wanted to use the restroom, but they didn’t allow us. They said they were closing the cafe, and after I insisted, mentioning we were paying customers, they said we could not use it. Terrible customer service! I don’t recommend going there!
Probably the worst coffee in a while. I ordered a flat white. I got a tasteless concoction of hot water milk and rather what felt like flavor of coffee
This is not the local business I would choose to support. All the students know that this is not a friendly or welcoming place to spend your time. The drinks aren’t bad, but if you want to pay the whopping $8 for a drink (go to Strada, Sodoi, Souvenir, Peet’s or Caffeinated instead for better prices), they will still change the Wifi password halfway through your study session and then badger you about whether or not you bought a drink when you ask for the updated password (even as you’re holding the cup). The experience just feels hostile. If you’re the owner and you’re reading this, please reconsider the way you approach talking to customers and cultivate the energy of your establishment. This is coming from someone who really wanted to like your cafe, but has always left with a bad taste in her mouth. There are better cafes to support in Berkeley.
I ordered a vegan empanada which did not taste good. When I spoke to the person who seemed to be in charge, he basically said, "well, we have this pamphlet that shows the ingredients and you should have looked at that." I told him that no one had showed me this pamphlet which was under the counter. He was like, too bad. Very unfriendly. Also the drink was nothing special and for this tiny inedible empanada and iced tea, the charge was $16. I will not be returning.
I went in and sat down for about 5 minutes since I usually go to Peets across the street but it was closed. I was deciding on what to order when a man approached me and told me that only customers were allowed to sit inside. Sure, I guess I understood that? I was planning on ordering but the man had a rude tone and it wasn't very welcoming, so I decided to just leave.
I'd been excited to study here because the concept was enticing and the atmosphere seemed great! I walked in and first found a seat and was reviewing the menu on the wall to decide what to get. After about five minutes I wanted to see photos of the drinks and was on yelp when a gentleman who appeared to be a manager/owner comes up to me and says "you have to be a customer to be here" and hovers over me. I explain I am deciding what to order and he gives me a discerning look before walking away. It was very unwelcoming, especially as I didn't notice him approach anyone else who didn't seem to have cups or plates. I decided to leave and am disappointed that I will likely not be returning.
I’m a frequent customer at this café and have always supported the business, so today’s experience was extremely disappointing. My friend was asked to leave simply for not ordering anything, despite the fact that I was actively purchasing and we were sitting together. It felt unnecessary and unwelcoming given how often I come and support this place.
