State Flour Pizza Company Berkeley Reviews
State flour is a must if you’re in the Berkeley area! It’s up there with some of the best in terms of quality and balance of flavors. A delicious and well-seasoned crust, perfectly portioned toppings, and also great service! It can get very crowded so it was just loud and hard to hear but atmosphere aside, the pizza and service is top tier. I could see myself ordering this to go and it being a great time. I’ll for sure be back! 🍕
Amazing and perfect dinner in Berkeley. This is an adorable little spot, the interior is chic and the food is delicious! We got the mushroom/cauliflower pizza and they were both flavorful and perfectly crispy. They were kind and let us do half and half because we couldn’t decide and it turned out amazing! Overall service is amazing and 10/10 recommend for a nice dinner :))
I'm so glad state Flour is in this beloved space where my favorite Italian restaurant use to be. We had a great fresh mozzarella cheese pizza with pepperoni and the prettiest and delicious salad around. Staff was also very, very nice and youthful. Terrific!
Glad that I tried out the new restaurant. Pizza is thin-crust, very savory, with fragrant cheese. A little salty to me but it’s just personal preference for light flavors. The pear salad is amazing as well, and I would consider it as fine dinning quality salad! A chilled environment, nice second floor sitting, order at the counter, help yourself with forks and tissues, very nice dinning experience. Highly recommend!
Absolutely excellent pizza. A perfect in between of a neopolitan and a New York pie. The Burrata and Casanova were both perfectly baked excellent sauce and ingredients all around. The crust alone with out sauce or ingredients would put most pizzas to shame. Service was very friendly as well. Can’t wait to go back.
Honestly my favorite pizza place in Berkeley. The vibe is nice - not pretentious at all, but also not run down. The staff is always attentive and the pizza comes out quickly. The Hunter pizza is my favorite :)
Such fantastic pizza! The thin crust was perfect—light yet incredibly satisfying. I’ve honestly never seen pizzas so generously loaded with toppings. My husband absolutely loved his pepperoni and burrata pizza. The Gaia pizza I ordered was a wonderful vegetarian option—full of flavor and beautifully done. We also tried the Ollie without sausage; it was good, but it didn’t quite compare to the thoughtfully crafted vegetarian choice. The state flour salad was beautifully done too! All in all, we were extremely impressed and would wholeheartedly recommend this place. 🍕
Take the warmth of a local community-run kitchen, add in some killer flavors and textures, sprinkle on some coziness from the ample mood lighting and you’ve got the magic that is State Flour Pizza. I don’t think I could’ve asked for a better experience at State Flour Pizza Co, and that includes the 30 minute wait time for a table. This is the kind of place that hires the neighborhood teens in the summers while still taking the time to source all fresh ingredients. Consensus for favorite was split between the mushroom-sausage and green goddess pizzas, but the margherita and hot honey pepperoni were almost as good. Apple salad gave some much needed freshness to the table. This pizza place is as perfect for a family dinner as it is for a first date, and is just as likely to have a table of college friends as it is a post-conference debrief. That’s because it’s designed for the community, so it attracts the community.
Perfect woodfired pizza with upgraded gourmet toppings, offering half&half pizzas. Clean white simple decor with warm white lamp lighting, a streamlined vintage feel? Love the State 'Flour' 🏵 name with California poppy logo, our state flower ... representing us well here 🌉 DESSERT: So excited to see they had a vanilla PANNA COTTA, with honey & fresh strawberries atop served in a small yogurt-sized glass cup. It was a little softly set but felt chilled still. We should've ordered a whole one each, next time! PIZZA: The crust was good & narrow, blistered some, firm enough on bottom not soaked thru nor soggy. No thick square pizzas on menu, we wanted a thinner variety. They offer a thin medium round single pie with 6 slices; we both ate 2 slices each & shared a salad & dessert. We loved trying these 2 specialty-topping combos on a single pie as a half & half, kindly suggested by our server (thanks!): - HALF "OLLiE" PIZZA (caramelized leeks, crimini mushrooms, nut free pesto, sausage, garlic confit, mozzarella, grana padano (a white pizza $24, lots of tiny chopped toppings, more filling than the LoLo below, loved both) and the 2nd half... - HALF the "LO LO" PIZZA (Pineapple, Hot Sopressata, Goat horn Peppers, Tomato Sauce, Fontina, Mozzarella, Grana Padano, fresh Basil (a red pizza, loved this sweet-hot elevated Hawaiian $24) We'd get the same half&half again, or may bring home a 2nd pizza, we ate 2 slices each SALAD: Endive Apple $13 with 3 huge thin-crisp prosciutto slices: Endive, little gems, pink lady apples, crispy prosciutto, blue cheese cheese, pistachios, shallots, Tarragon vinaigrette. The house salad sounded unique & delicious too. . APPETIZER: Will try the BAKED RIGATONI & RICOTTA BOLOGNESE app next time. EXPERIENCE: It was 50° on a Wednesday January eve after 5p, so we sat upstairs where it was warmer & inviting on the loft overlooking the downstairs dining area & passersby outside on busy College Ave. It wasn't busy as far as picking a table, & the service was great upstairs on this quiet evening. There's a water station upstairs be our attentive server brought us waters without asking in nice mason jar style type-handled cups. Not a tv place, didn't expect any. There were people picking up takehome orders, and a quiet bday gathering upstairs, a good area for private parties or a weekend gathering. Must return to have this pizza again :-)
A Hidden Gem for Pizza Purists This isn’t your classic pizzeria—it’s better. Think: thin, crisp crusts, pitch-perfect ratios, and inventive, unfussy flavor combinations that reveal serious culinary intention. Every pie feels like the result of thoughtful experimentation, not trend-chasing or nostalgia. If you’ve already made the rounds—Da Laura, Rose, Cheeseboard, Jupiter, Zachary’s, Summer Kitchen, even Nabloom’s—and still crave something new, this place will reset your expectations. It’s pizza stripped to essentials, elevated by quiet mastery. No hype, no scene—just pizza that earns it. You’ll thank me.
Absolutely delicious! Quality all around. The dough/crust was divine and the toppings perfectly balanced. The sauce had a bit too much sugar added and could use a little work, but otherwise no complaints. I got a Darcy pie and gradually ate the entire pizza throughout the afternoon because it was so good.
From new jersey... this place is the best I've had in california and I've searched for about 15 years. I'd say its up there with east coast artisan. Eat it fast before it cools down. One piece at a tome so its hot.

Stumbled in here just to get a slice for lunch, and left with two of the best NY style-slices in Berkeley. So much attention to detail and flavor in the dough and sauce PLUS they freshly grate Parmesan on your slice after reheating it. Way more than I was expecting and reasonably priced! I liked both the mushroom-leek slice and pepperoni-onion!
Every time I dine at State Flour I know I’ll have the most perfect salad with vinaigrette and chicories, my favorite pizza, a choice of lovey beverages, and the best service from friendly staff who make me feel like a guest of honor. This place should be on every best of list. The menu includes classics and creative twists, celebrates outstanding ingredients, and has something for everyone. The vegan and gluten free options are among the best I’ve had anywhere, and offered with the same care and quality as the rest. Charm, flavor, warmth, consistently outstanding pizza - everything I want in a restaurant!
I don't know where to start, I really like this place. The pizza dough/crust is crisp and airy and easy to digest and delicious and perfect. I like to get the house salad there. It's a delicious vinaigrette and the bolognese is excellent too. Really good cooking. Really good little spot, I highly recommend it.
Amazing salads and pizza. I love that they have an option for the controversial pineapple enjoyers like myself, and they certainly did not disappoint. I love a crispy crust with a little bit of chew, and toasty blisters throughout, and they absolutely nailed it. Not too doughy and not too crunchy, just perfect. Really excellent pizza worth every penny.
So so good. I’ve been getting carry out or delivery for a while and finally ate in the restaurant and the pizza was even better. Really enjoyed the salad and pasta with meat sauce too. Super friendly service. Only request is to close the front door when it’s cold because I would have loved to sit downstairs and enjoy the atmosphere but we had to sit upstairs because the door was kept open :)
Best thin-crust pizza on College Ave, with reasonable prices! The pizza menu has a good variety and the specials are always interesting. You can tell the ingredients are high quality. The staff are friendly and kind, and they've always been willing to leave out certain toppings or substitute as requested. The salads are also great. You can get a one salad + one pizza dinner for two people to share at a great price point for the neighborhood. Recommended dining in and sitting in the cute upstairs area.
Why did I wait so long to discover State Flour pizza? It's amazing 🤩🤩🤩. The crust is thin and perfect, the toppings are well balanced. There's not too much dough or gooey cheese. It's great the next day too. It's now my favorite go-to pizza establishment.

My favorite pizza is the Hawaiian. So good! I had another and ordered one again. Staff showed my appreciation by loading all toppings slightly extra. Loved that.

Really great pizza spot on College. I love the way they've set up the restaurant, with the upstairs seating and the simply laid out first floor. The pizza itself was fantastic, I had a chance to try the shroom and Hawaiian slices - really great flavor combinations, good ingredients and not your standard toppings! The Hawaiian was my favorite and was a combo of pineapple, pepperoni and sweet peppers (from what I could tell) and I got to experience another great version of pineapple on pizza. Highly recommended for a quick lunch inside or on the go while you're out exploring College Ave.

I got a burrata pizza with their house made sausage. Very well made and delicious. I just wish the cheese was cut thinners it was not cold in the middle. The sausage was excellent! The dough seemed to be missing flavor, perhaps because of the oven used or the length of fermentation. The wine was very good. The waitress serving me today was wonderful and kudos for her efforts with two stories to move up and down and her effervescent personality and efficiency.
