My sister and I traveled over 4,400 miles to enjoy P.L. Johnson's Swedish meatballs. As a born and bred Swede, I can confirm that this place serves the real deal. It's delicious! The complimentary rye bread (I think it's rye, anyway) reminds me of something my grandma used to make. I only wish I had asked for the recipe. If you’re in Bishops Hill, you definitely need to stop by. And the service? Excellent.

This is a very quaint restaurant that embodies the Swedish heritage of the village. The menu and the hours are somewhat limited but the food on offer is delightful. I got the Swedish meatballs and a slice of peach berry pie. Everything was very tasty. The service was great, too.

The food is delicious. Wait staff are very helpful and attentive. We love the Swedish meatballs and the homemade pie. The Swedish sampler plate is also very delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant. We make the drive from the suburbs of Chicago to enjoy the food.

We've been coming to Lucia Nights for many years, and for nearly every visit we have chosen P.L. Johnson's for dinner. We've never been disappointed. Their soups, sandwiches, and desserts are terrific, and the service is friendly and efficient. In particular, the dining area by the kitchen is cozy and decorated beautifully for Christmas.

Cute little store/restaurant. We went on a weekend. Not busy so seated quickly. Service was fast and efficient. Food was delicious! I highly recommend the meatballs! Oh and get the lindenberry sauce. Yum! I would compare these to the ikea meatballs. So good!! And way closer to me then Chicago. Manageable portion. Soda came in a can. But on a cold day they have tea, coffee and coco. Enjoyed being in this historical building to eat. Will visit again next time I'm in Bishop Hill.

We arrived here during a down pour and the proprietor graciously helped us in with is big umbrella. The menu that evening was small, but the food was excellent and satisfying. We had the cabbage rolls and the Swedish meatballs. We treated ourselves to dessert and tried the three berry pie and the bread pudding. Both were also wonderful, but the bread pudding was fantastic.

Good pan cooked cheese ravioli and fruit pudding on cabbage. The desert sampler platter gives you options for two different small slices of pie plus bread pudding. The strawberry ice cream and chocolate cookie pie is my favorite! Come for the homey Swedish atmosphere, stay for the desserts.

Very small portions for very expensive price. Pie is good but the bread pudding was coconut and brown sugar spread over bread basically. Coffee was very weak. haven't been here in years but that's the reason we didn't come back for a long long time. Will not be visiting again. It makes me very sorry to say I brought my young children here all the time I believe the Bakery is where we'll be going from now on.

We were there a year ago and found the place charming. This time the service was very slow (over an hour to get served) and the food was unseasoned and over cooked. When we went to leave, we had to ask for the bill and they expected us to know the name of the server, because they foegot. I went to pay and had to wait 10 minutes for someone to show up to take my money. Never again!!

Eat somewhere else if you're hungry or if you like good value for your meal. Glad it was just my wife and me, and not the 5 kids too! The food tasted good but the prices were ridiculous. I paid $13 for a cabbage roll that could be eaten in two bites; even $3 would have been expensive. Also got the Swedish meatballs. For $13 I expected at least a dinner-plate, but instead it came in a tiny bowl. It felt like we had eaten at one of those haute-cuisine restaurants where the portion is barely enough to feed an elf. Both my wife and I left hungry, and she's almost always takes home a doggy bag.

Heard so much about this town. Ate at this restaurant. I asked for soup and 1/2 sandwich. They said they were out of soup. So we ordered a sandwich that comes with a pickle and chips. We get plates and I get a half sandwich a pickle and grapes. I.asked where my chips were they said they ran out. I asked for a side dish to replace the chips I was told that's what the grapes were for. I told them I didn't like grapes. We paid $12 something for our plates. Two ice teas @1.95 a piece with were about 6oz. When it came time to pay I was asked how everything was. I told him our situation and all he said is that he was sorry. No discount nothing. Very rude. If they didn't have chips we should have been told. We should have went to the Filling stationbetter menu and better price. I don't recommend anyone go here. Customer is just a paying customer.
