Astorga's Bishop Reviews
We did take out to support the local businesses. The food was excellent. I can judge the quality of Mexican food by the beans. Every thing was wonderful. Thanks for staying open.
Food was exceptional! We went on a Wednesday very busy ordered guacamole, the shrimp steak and chicken fajitas and Cadillac margaritas. Did not disappoint!!
We stopped for dinner as we were coming down 395. The place had a great vibe and everyone was friendly. Ordered the #14 Carnitas plate, and it was really excellent, rice and beans were also. We have a lot of great Mexcian food where we live, this Carnitas plate was as good as it gets. I'll be back next time we are in this area.
We're so glad we found this little gem in Bishop that we never knew about before. A perfect afternoon or evening stop while traveling up and down 395.
Fantastic first visit visiting from Hemet brought the family in for carne asada burritos which were tasty !!!!And some flautas. Perfect lunch for a pleasant experience! Ty for ur hospitality!
I tried their sope when I was there for Labor Day weekend. OMG I would drive 4 hours easily from my house to have that again. Absolute perfection! We are going back in a couple weeks and my first stop is this place. Yummo!
This place is soooo good! Good food, good salsa, and excellent margarita menu! We were just passing through otherwise this would be one of our faves! And Vicente our server was awesome. Get customer service skills!
Great staff, great food and we loved the ambiance of eating out on the patio. They had strings of lights and heaters to keep us warm when it ot colder and we even got the fire pit table that garnered a lot of "oohs" and "ahhs" from our girls lol. "The girls" keep mentioning how they want to go back lol
Our waitress was so sweet and informative. The service was great, drinks were awesome and so was the food.
Great family restaurant with good service and food. I just wish they had more Chile relleno prepared for dinner service. The last 2 times dining in early, they were out .
I’m from Bay Area and get over here occasionally. Astorgas (and Great Basin Bakery) are why I prefer Bishop to Lone Pine. Both are better than their better advertised competitors in Bishop. I’m partial to the Chili Verde and Cadillac Margarita. I’m not sure the locals know how good a thing they have.
The food was delicious. They were pretty busy but we were seated after a short wait and the staff did a good job checking on us and being concerned about the time it took to get our dinner.
Awesome place for food and relaxing. Must stop in if you're driving through Bishop. Staff is friendly, food is yummy 🤤😁
The only Mexican place in Bishop that serves soup. I had a wonderful tortilla soup and the waitress assured me that the albóndigas is also good when it's the soup of the day. The flan was also to die for, creamy and not over bearing.
Great food. The server wasn't very enthusiastic but the service was ok. Never came back to the table to see if we needed anything.
We had a chicken chimichanga and beef taco salad. Both were excellent! Server was very friendly. Nice e yo eat at a restaurant where everything was excellent.
Ate thier first time a year ago after tenting/fishing for a few days thought might be a fluke, went back to bishop with wife looking for camp sites for this year for trailer had lunch there and was just as good as first time. Recommend to every one.
Food was delicious crispy beef taco enchiladas were amazing. The service was good
Amazing great Mexican food! Had the chimachanda and it was cooked perfectly with shredded beef, the sauce was outstanding, it also had lettuce, sour cream and fresh guacamole. The hot sauce was not hot enough for my taste so I also ordered diced fresh jalapenos to kick it up a notch. I would totally recommend this place to everyone I know. Service inside was very attentive and timely. Just go try!
First time here was great food and fast service. Will definitely recommend to other family members 👍
The best Mexican food. Tamales and Enchiladas are recommended.
I want to Thank Sean Michaels for showing our party of 16 such hospitality! We arrived an one hour before the restruant opened yet the manager allowed us to wait on the patio and served us the best chips and salsa I've ever had! We ended up with our private room inside, which was fabulous cause we were a loud group. The food and drinks along with the service (Maria) was awesome! Can't wait to visit again!
We had so much fun here drinking a pitcher of margaritas on the patio. The service was slow but it was busy after covid with socially distanced tables. The food was good. We will definitely return.
I shared the pork tamales with my wife. She shared her grilled mahi mahi tacos with me. The tacos had a nice spicy sauce with large chunks of meat and the tamales had plenty of pork and fresh masa. She had a prickly pear cactus margarita while I enjoyed a spicy mango margarita. Fantastic to both drinks! We shared a cheesecake chimichanga dessert. My wife found it to be a bit on the heavy side with the fried pastry, but I enjoyed the very light sweetness to it. The service was a bit slow, but since the place was packed with diners, that's understandable. The wait staff were quite pleasant and genuine. Love this place and are sad that we don't live nearer.
on a weds afternoon- best veggie burrito ever
I sat on the patio with friends and their dog. I love they are pet friendly! I live locally and have always had excellent food and service!
Great ambiance on their lovely outdoor patio! The food and the service was excellent!! Cadillac Margaritas were as good as they get. We had fish tacos and enchiladas suizas, delicious! Highly recommended!
Astoria Mexican restaurant is a great place to have breakfast lunch or dinner. Eve. When they are busy they have smiles on their faces and do their best. The guacamole was really good with thoughtful additions. I had a burrito Supreme that featured pork in a verde sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.
One of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to in a long time and I live in Los Angeles. The tamales were great. Update: we stopped by again while traveling through Bishop. We were not disappointed. The place is great.
Been coming here for a few years and they never disappoint. Food is great, salsa is good, service does an outstanding job and its very clean. We stop here at least twice a year when in the area.
Absolutely delicious food and super friendly employees...these dark days aren't holding these guys back! The shredded beef Chimichanga was just as good as the phenomenal souza enchiladas.... Raised the bar the Mexican food for sure!! Signed, Full and Happy, Mike and Aimee, NV
We looked forward to eating at Astorga's on a Sunday evening after coming down hungry and tired from a day at the Ancient Bristlecone Natl Monument. We were not disappointed! Delicious food, thoughtful service, and an overall great experience dining outside under the stars. If I could, I would eat there weekly for the chiles rellenos.
There was a dog on the patio. Every time the server came UP 2 their table, the dog started parking and lunging at her, they should have asked them to leave and they did not.
I love Astorga’s! Best Mexican spot in Bishop. The fajitas & guacamole are amazing and they have SO many different margarita options. Will come back every time I’m in town!!
This place was exceptionally good. The food was so so so good and I highly recommend the veggie burrito here. It is cooked with lard though, so not completely vegetarian. If you're in Bishop, come here!
Drinks were good. The food was awesome. We had the nachos with shredded beef and the trio fajitas. The service was nice. Plus, they have a new bar. We will definitely be back.
Good food and good service. The club I belong to takes advantage of their banquet room twice a month. They provide lunch for one price all the need is the number of attendees. For our evening meeting they have a special menu with a variety of selections all at the same price. Owners and staff all go out of their way to make our experience there a positive one.
A friend of mine told me about this place because they have live music on Friday and incredible fajitas. It did not disappoint. The service was fantastic. The Ultimate Cadillac was delicious! The fajitas were perfectly cooked and so flavorful. I don’t know how this does not have 5 stars. HIGHLY RECOMMEND if in Bishop. Will definitely be back.
Excellent place for Mexican food, friendly service, the food was very good, fresh ingredients you can order custom food and they delivered. This time we did not ordered margaritas but for sure next time. You can bring your well behaved dog with a leash.
Love this place. Great food and service.
Excellent food and service! I had the combination two shredded beef enchiladas withe rice and beans and it very tasty! The salsa and chips before my donner arrived were also very good and fresh. If you enjoy good Mexican food, Astorga's will not disappoint.
While visiting Bishop we found this restaurant in a Bishop tourism magazine. My chicken taco salad was delicious and my husband cleaned up his steak fajitas. Highly recommend you stop in when traveling through the city.
Stopped in last night and was very impressed. The place is a rambling house on a busy corner with both indoor and outdoor dining. We were expecting some good home cooked meals and were not disappointed. Everything was very fresh! The service was excellent! The servers were attentive without being overly so. This is definitely now high on our list of places to stop on US-395. I only wish I lived closer to Bishop so I could go more often.
I visited Bishop with my family and dined here twice during separate trips. The food is delicious and the service is friendly. We were seated near the window along side Hwy 395. I especially enjoyed watching cars driven by with snow on top during winter time. It’s a short distance from town center and the parking is easy. Highly recommended.
Stopped here for lunch per a recommendation from a friend, and let me tell you, the food was fantastic. Very authentic Mexican food, seasoned to perfection and priced fairly. The service was excellent and friendly staff. Will definitely be back when driving through Bishop, CA
Stopped here as we were checking out the area and were glad we stopped here. Seating is both inside and outside. Service was at the table. The outside area is big and not crowed. We order margaritas, check out the difference in size from regular to larger. The large is massive! We ordered a chicken burrito with green sauce and the taco and enchilada combination. Portions were large and food was great. Very authentic! If you’re in the area highly recommend stopping for a taste of real Mexican food!.
We've been passing by this place for years, always wanting to give her a try so we finally did and were pleasantly surprised! You know it's gonna be good food if the chips are crispy and fresh and the salsa is tangy and chilled. My Dos Equis was muy frio and the food...Que Sabor! Super yummy food here. We'll be back! Hands down BEST....
This place has a full parking lot every time we drive by so we decided to stop and check it out. OMG! Our food was so good and our waitress, Maria, was very attentive. We had the ground beef taco pizza and the chili relleno/chicken enchilada combo. My husband NEVER cleans his plate at a Mexican restaurant, today he did. We will be back!
Very good service and excellent food. Large plates of food for a reasonable prices.
We come here every time we come through Bishop, and it's always a delight! The staff is super friendly and professional, and the food is outstanding. This trip, I enjoyed a shredded beef chimichanga. My husband enjoyed a chili relleno and an enchilada. We highly recommend Astorga's!
Looked at all the reviews on Mexican Food in Bishop. Looked great and it was. Best mex food we have had in a long time. Service was impeccable. Opens at 5:00 and fills up fast.
The restaurant has a warm inviting atmosphere. Great food at good prices! We will have enough for another whole meal.
One of my favorite spots when I return home! The quality of the food is always consistent and service is always friendly! Oh, and try the prickly pear margarita! This pic is the sizzling chicken fajita!

That’s a great family restaurant with delicious trio fajitas, salsa, and guacamole. My friend ordered a meal off the menu, and they still made it for him. Special thanks to Jayla for her excellent service!
Just had the steak fajitas and guacamole. Outstanding food! high-quality steak. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and the beans addicting :) Family owned and operated with family recipes. Love this place.
Simple, small town restaurant, but flavors are far from it. Five bites into the chimichanga I had to give it the review. Delicious is all I can say born and raised in Southern California. Exactly what I would expect.
Astorga’s was able to seat our wedding party of 18 people with just a few days notice. The restaurant was very clean and the decorations were beautiful. The food was excellent, service was fast and food/drinks were very affordable. This is our go to stop whenever we spend time in bishop. Highly recommend!
Our family's favorite restaurant in town! Food is great and the staff is as well!

Wow...those Margaritas are sinful! Salsa tasty, on the nippy side, and so nice with the thin warm chips. Menu offers a nice variety and portions reasonable.
Astorgas is great. I didn't always like this place but something has changed with the new place and the food is really pretty good. Fajitas are recommended and the Margaritas are stiff.
Good food, great comfortable setting and a super friendly staff! We sat outside, under a huge Sycamore during a thunderstorm due to a business call. Staff accommodated us right thru the rain! I should also mention the terrific Mexican beer selection!! Salud!
Great Tortilla Soup!!!!! Our Server was very attentive to our desires and needs! CalTrans was installing a Traffic Signal at Astorga’s intersection, so their Patio Wall/Fence demo’d out for the Street work... But I am sure that once the wall is up DRINKS ON THE PATIO WILL BE GREAT!!!
Food was great; the waitress was as attentive as she could be, but they seemed understaffed.
This place is great. Food is yummy and authentic. There’s something on the menu for everyone from super spicy to no spice at all. Very kind and considerate workers. Went out of there way to answer all questions regarding menu. Food was done quickly and very clean business with hard workers
We stopped here on a road trip into Bishop. We were in need of some Mexican food! We waited quite a while for service and they were not busy when we got there. It got busy as we ended our meal and the service cost them a star. The food was pretty good so I think we would give it another chance.
Don’t come in a hurry, this is a slow moving kitchen. Options are limited but food has a beautiful presentation and a good quality
The ONLY reason I gave 4 Stars overall is because parking is tricky. Narrow lanes and spaces too close together and not enough parking. That and the floors are uneven in several places and could be hazardous if you’re not watching while you are walking. The food IS 5 a Star! It’s a bit more expensive but well worth the price! A fan favorite is the Chile Relano combination plate! The biggest Relano’s I have ever seen in a restaurant and cooked to perfection! Tonight I had the Fajita Trio - Steak, Shrimp and Chicken and it did NOT disappoint. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The turn around time from placing your order to the food arriving at your table is reasonable. They have a modest selection of imported beers. I’m so happy to have found this little hidden gem in Bishop, CA. It’s a regular spot for me and my coworkers bi-weekly after work dinners.
The salsa is made in house and was excellent. I Tried the Mexican hot wings, and they were fantastic. The sauce is made in house and has a nice kick to it, get the sauce on the side so it isn't too spicy. Chicken enchiladas were good too.
We had the Taco Bowl and the "Mexican Tacos" (street tacos). They were good but the salsa was REALLY good. I would've liked to have brought some of that home! They must've been pretty shorthanded bc our orders were both wrong but to be fair, the poor guy that was working the cash register also stepped in as hostess, busboy and server. And the manager made every effort to make us happy. The place was in the middle of remodeling so it should look nice later. We'll try them again another time.

It was not very busy however, the waiter we saw first kept walking by saying she’ll be with us. Finally we got seated by another person. We waited some more until we were able to order our drinks & food. Food was great. We ordered dessert. Dessert was delicious. It took awhile to get our ticket.
It's great food but I think they are overpriced. For two chicken tostadas cost me, with tip, a little over $40. For a tortilla, some chicken and mostly beans. $ 40 bucks.

Chilli verde was ok. No pastor and out of adobado. Server was rude. I guess I shouldn’t have asked if they had pastor or homemade tortillas.
I believe that the waiters to be more friendly.. A food was excellent menu had a lot of traditional Hispanic And healthy Options With alcohol and non alcoholic drinks. I find the food is a plus with a healthy portion.
Very careless, slow and unattentive service, although the people were friendly. The food was okay, not great. The carnitas plate I got seemed like they just put fajitas fixings on the plate along with rice and beans. It tasted okay but unlike any carnitas I have ever had. Portions were fine.
Good Mexican food for an out of town visit. In consideration of Food/Drinks/Atmosphere, we had the following: great Chile Relleno with very good flavor and texture, but only an average chicken tostada. Also, the salsa was very good with lots of chopped tomatoes, onions and cilantro in it. The traditional margaritas were fairly good (not great) and I could taste the tequila so that was positive. The atmosphere was diner-ish and lacking any of the usual Mexican fanfare, but they had booths to sit in. I oddly enjoyed the immediate view of the 395 which runs right next to the dining room. Prices were reasonable, so it’s safe to drop in for dinner.
Okay but not great. The salsa was really watery. The food was good but not great It was not cheap either.
Seems that their new Chef doesn’t know the cooking process well. Terribly firm meat, just slightly cooked almost raw tortillas - in a specialitet dish it is not decent. Have been here last year - the food was much better then.
Expensive very filling no taste fast food. Price are not 10-20 but 20-30$ each.
The last couple trips in there it’s been over 90° for whatever reason they can’t keep their air conditioning operating very uncomfortable place to eat even though the foods OK
When we arrived in the nearly empty restaurant, we were told to wait for the waitress to wipe down a dirty table. I’m pretty sure the people working there didn’t smile one time, and appeared to hate being there. The food tasted good, but also nothing special. Lunch for 3 people should not cost $50 though. They charged us $2 to add sauce to a burrito, $3 for a side of sour cream, and $3.25 for a fountain drink. I have never experienced so much overcharging at any restaurant in my life. Will not be back.
NO VEGETARIAN OPTIONS. That’s my headline. We ended up not eating there, because of it. Even the Veggie Burrito has lard in the beans and chicken stock in the rice. At least the waitress was good enough to tell me. Cheese quesadilla would probably be their only vegetarian offering.
Paid an unbelievable amount of money for this very average Mexican food. My daughter's cheese enchiladas were $16 for two tortillas, a hand full of cheese, a 1/4 cup of sauce, very old rice and overcooked beans. They also put RAW red onion on top of everything. WHY? Who in the hell wants raw onion on their enchiladas? Should have cost $10 at the most. Simply ripping people off. We won't be coming back to this place.
I've eaten here before and food was OK, but this time the Chile Verdes was so salty as to render it inedible. The salsa tasted like chili powder was thrown in it. Waitress never came over to check how our dishes were after serving, and it was the other staff that cleared tables that noticed I only took a single bite from dinner. Maybe an off day, but this experience was bad enough that I'll not go back... My wife had enchiladas and they were edible, but she said they were fairly bland.
Waited over an hour, way overpriced, and not worth it. Chips and salsa also costs money after the first bowl. Go to Taquerias Las Palmas or somewhere else.

10-18-17. $8 for an ala cart tamale. $8 for an ala cart chili relliano. $5 for an ala cart taco. Absolutely highway robbery. My fault for not asking price before I ordered, but have never seen prices like these. got blind sided big time. Manager basically told me too bad. Been going there for years. Never again. Shame there in no "0" star.
Ordered online got to the Astorga’s and picked up two burritos selected chips and salsa, guacamole and sour cream only got the burritos went back to get the chips and salsa and they gave me one bag of chips no salsa and I said was supposed to get two chips but they said I ordered only one. So confused I left then found out not only did I pay for two of everything I was still short my salsa I had paid 39.92, with tax it was 43 something anyway it’s common there and shouldn’t be happening I’m not the only one who has gotten ripped off my parents had the same thing happen to them but they naturally assumed it was their mistake. The burrito cost 10.99 with nothing added, condiments are 2.99 each, altogether 19.96 add another set it’s 39.92.
Only a party of 2, we waited outside, due to social distancing, for 25 minutes in 102 degree weather (which wasn't a big deal) we were completely ignored from the moment we walked up. Not even acknowledged, the worst customer service I have ever received. I don't usually leave reviews but this one was a must! Awful service!! Unfortunate, as we love to support local and small businesses but not this establishment. Note : (I can't seem to directly respond to the below, so I am attaching to review) Thank you for the response Manuel, I completely understand all of the issues and challenges you are facing daily if not hourly during these uncertain times. Patience is a must, not only for owners but patrons. As we waited for over 20 minutes without any sort of acknowledgement was super disappointing. Upon leaving, we watched another couple walk up and leave after being treated the same, they just didn't tolerate it or wait around as long. Anyhow, sounds like you have your food dialed in (great reviews are why we stopped to dine) .... good luck on ironing out the customer service! All the best! Meagan
Last night we were treated to a disaster at Astorga’s, hungry after a fun day of play. We stopped to have dinner like we have for over six years, were greeted and seated quickly, chips and soda there too. After 25 minutes we got up to leave when the hostess came over to say the waitress would be right over, (the waitress was right behind her, up till that time the waitress had not even acknowledged us) by then the chips were gone for over ten minutes and we hadn’t seen any food delivered to the three tables before us. At that point I had to wonder how long I would have waited for mine? Don’t think they were shorthanded, there must have been five or more working. We said that we were still leaving, as we were walking towards the door the waitress said “we’re busy” and “don’t come back”. There were only three out of ten tables taken in her section when we were seated! It is a shame that we were treated this way, and NO we won’t be back and YES, we will not recommend them to any fellow travelers. The place wasn't worth 1 star
WORST EVER. I've never posted about a restaurant before, but this was terrible. I ordered online, it was supposed to be 40 minutes til ready. I arrived in 40 minutes but it wasn't ready. Then they tell me they were out of what I had ordered. When I open my food order, the amount of food was miniscule. I ordered whole beans, but that was wrong. I ordered no cheese, but that was wrong. Never again.
There was no wait when I arrived at this Mexican restaurant, which initially seemed like a good sign. However, it quickly became clear why—it took 45 minutes to receive my food even though the restaurant was empty. Unfortunately, the meal was disappointing. The food lacked flavor, the steak was tough and chewy, and the potatoes were extremely hard. The portion size was also small for a $25 plate. I wouldn’t recommend this place.
Waitress disappeared. Left us hanging. Never received my tortillas. Waited forever for the check. Had to go to the front for doggie bag and to ask for the check. Saw the waitress sitting chatting with another employee. The food was fairly good but the service was unacceptable. The table was sticky and felt dirty. The general look of the place was run down looking. I could look past all that but it was very rude when your server disappears for 20 minutes. I would not recommend.
On my way back from YNP I decided to stop for Mexican food and I chose this place because it had very good reviews, unfortunately when we got there I approached one of the waitresses and asked her for a table for a big party, she replied to me in a very rude manner that they didn't have tables for big parties inside the restaurant, I told her it's ok we can eat in the patio, I requested a high chair for a baby, and when she came back with the chair she literally pushed it against us, the tables in the patio were filthy, in my thoughts I expected that she was going to clean it, I was wrong, she started to give us the menu's I asked her if she was going to clean the tables I saw her expression and that was it. We decided to leave, food could be good but with service like that no thanks !
Didn’t even get to order food here service was horrible. Server had an attitude. We sat down ordered drinks but then once we saw how rude the waitress was we got up and left. Tables, booths, and chairs are worn down. We hoped for some Mexican breakfast, when my husband asked if there was breakfast she yelled at him that there’s no breakfast! Taking our party of 10 and tip somewhere else where service and food is better.
The food was very good . The service was absolutely horrible. At the end she didn’t even ask if we wanted anything else . We had to stop her from dropping the check and running . When we tried to order dessert they had none . A touch up would go a long way . Booths were torn up , making this restaurant very run down . Our waitress was not friendly at all . She disappeared every chance she got . Took awhile to order , and get our check .
Menu specifically encouraged paying cash, when paying bill i handed older male cashier a $100 bill for $55 purchase , he refused to take it making me use my debt card. This happed in early October, i could not tip waitress. I will never go there again!!!
