Moonshine 152 Boston Reviews
Does it get any better? Love this place!! You have to love all the selections Chef Asia has to offer. Quite impressive when you order, Chef Asia brings it to you with a smile and describes what you ordered! Also I learned that all of her employees are happy to be there! That speaks volumes about her business! Also dog friendly! If you call ahead you can bring your pet to the outside deck! My new favorite place to enjoy!!
Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Boston. Chef Asia’s food epitomizes the heart of true fusion: a beautiful marriage of flavors and influences that co-creates a sum greater than their parts. This innovative, skillful approach to food is something I’ve known exists but haven’t yet found in dare I say all of New England. Moonshine is locally rooted, globally inspired, with street food-level accessibility yet top tier-level finesse…and some extra flair from the chef to boot. I’ve taken two separate parties back there for brunch within a couple months of my first visit. Everything here is tried and tested - but PLEASE get the phoritto!
Great place to enjoy food and drinks in an understated and low-key vibe. Recently took a visit for dinner on a Friday night. Their menu featured an eclectic mix of Asian fusion and American bar food classics with interesting twists. The most interesting item from the appetizers was the caramelized onion-roasted beet dip: the combination of thin and salty crisps with sweet and savory beet dip was very satisfying. On the other hand, spicy lamb meatballs, jalapeno crab rangoons, and bacon wrapped stuffing bites were good but plain. Advertised as the "Boston's best fried chicken," their buttermilk fried chicken wings were fantastic. While they didn't have any unique seasonings, the wings were extremely tender. Craving for more, we also ordered the chicken and waffles and loved the waffles as well. Mama Mei’s famous dirty fried rice was another one of our favorites, and it was interesting to see that Chef Mei herself delivered this to our table. The only item we found plain from the entrées were their daily special fish & chips as the excess moisture on the inside ruined the overall texture of the cod. The food here was certainly beyond what we expected, and the service was also amazing throughout the evening. Would definitely come back for their wings.
Chef Asia’s food is magical. Ordered the crab Benedict and my partner ordered the fried rice. Both were phenomenal. Still cannot believe the effort chef puts into service bringing food to table and making connections with guests. Wait staff was amazing as well and overall was an unforgettable experience. This will be a Boston must for us on our next trip.
LEGIT some of the most tastiest food here in Boston. I only made a dent in their menu with ordering these items, tots, rangoon's, cauliflower tacos, chicken wings, and chicken and waffles. Oh, and can't forget the desserts, butterscotch pudding and Oreo brownie. Service was spot on! Jessyca was an amazing server; she was very attentive and super nice. I have much respect for Chef Asia as she was serving food alongside her team and working the kitchen. I can't wait to go back and indulge in other menu items.
One of the best meals I've ever had in Boston. It is an absolute crime that I went five years without eating at Moonshine 152. The chef brought out every dish and chatted with us- it was unreal service. We dinned for my birthday, and every dish was delicious. They were kind enough to gift a birthday dessert with a candle too. We sat on their patio which was lovely, you don't feel like you're sitting on the road which is lovely. Their cocktail with boba was UNREAL, so unique and fun. The crab rangoons were the best I have ever had. Highly recommend the beet and caramelized onion dip, fish tacos, and the crab rangoons. We already picked out what we will order the next time we go! I was impressed with the amount of vegetarian options, and how many could be made vegan.
The Buttermilk Wings literally fall off the bone. Everything was delicious. The customer service is excellent. Chef Asia Mei is very personable. She brings out every order personally. I definitely recommend reservations because space is limited, and it's not very large. Great experience for our first time eating in Boston!
This place is weird in the best way. The chef is super nice and brings out all the food herself. Best steak in Boston!
This was a great dining experience. The food here was delicious. We were seated promptly at 5pm because that's the time it opens on a Friday so we sat outside for a few minutes. During that time we had front row seats to a car collision but no one was rushed to the hospital. The interior decor is very much my vibe with all the handmade artwork everywhere. The staff here were very friendly and professional. There is no parking so we were able to get a street side parking spot not far away. I wish the tacos were bigger but they were good. I am looking forward to going back again soon.
This isn’t just a place to eat, it’s an experience. Atmosphere, food, service - everything was spot on. I ate here two nights in a row and Ben was our server both nights. He’s an absolute rockstar. I’ll be back here every time I’m in Boston.
Really enjoying dining at Moonshine 152. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff are friendly and helpful. I ordered the rabbit pasta and the patata bravas. Food takes longer than usual to be served but it’s definitely for a reason: everything from the texture and flavor to the presentation was on point. The patata bravas had a delightful crispy exterior and a fluffy interior. They were not spicy but the smoked paprika and tomato base paired well with crispy kale on top and a garlic aioli underneath. The choice of campanelle as pasta for the entree was a great choice, and the creamy sauce paired well with the crushed nuts and crispy herbs. They also have an interesting rotating menu, and I heard that the mortadella burger was great. The interior design and atmosphere are cozy and elegant. Would definitely recommend visiting!
Absolutely amazing! This is all according to my taste and experience, so you might have different feedback. But if you haven't tried it before, I definitely recommend giving it a shot. We got the: Jalapeno crab rangoons: not heavily stuffed with cream cheese and delicious Party tots: the toppings/sauce were there key to this dish, wasn't too overwhelming Local mixed green salad: dressing was light and their take on the ginger-sesame was on point. Buttermilk fried chicken wings: meat was fall off the bone tender. The batter was lightly fried. Both the chicken and the batter melted in your mouth. Definitely worth the title of "Boston's Best"! Hawaiian poke-rice bowl: perfect blend of flavors in this. I recommend tasting there two types of fish separately before mixing to get an appreciation for the effort put into the dish. Firecracker burger (burger of the month): staff mentioned this burger kept making a return appearance and I understand why. The sauce they have on it was, simply put, amazing. Burger was well seasoned and juicy as well. Caramel apple waffle ice cream sundae: what can I say about this? Waffle was nice and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Ice cream was smooth and delicious. Caramelized apples are not my favorite, but it blended well with the dessert overall. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was great as well. Staff is super friendly and the chef comes out and checks on the customers. That was a nice surprise. Again, this is according to my taste and experience.
Had one of the BEST meals and experiences I’ve had in Boston at Moonshine 152. This place is an absolute must - so creative, delicious and welcoming, the service was so friendly and quick, and we got spoiled by the head chef and owner popping over to our table to say hi, already can’t wait to come back. We started with a ‘Farm to Glass’ drink - so crisp and refreshing. We also ordered a plate of their chicken wings (award winning for a reason) which are served with a sauce so good I almost could’ve drank it. Then we got the Ron Swanson which was INCREDIBLE and the chicken and waffles which were also incredible. For dessert we had the carrot cake - so light and delicious, the perfect end to this experience. You literally can’t go wrong here - an absolute must-try, couldn’t recommend it more, and we’ll be back soon.
We really liked this place. Very friendly and inclusive vibe, flavorful food, and great service. It's not every day when you hear a customer say "chef, I love you!" (and mean it). The Best of Boston Buttermilk Fried Chicken Wings is literally the best in the area. Everything else that we tried was also delicious. Definitely will go back for more.
We were really pleased with our experience here. The food was tasty, the service was excellent (friendly, speedy, approachable), and we always love to support small local restaurants - especially women of color owned!! Chef Asia was really sweet and friendly. She came out to check in on us and make sure we were enjoying. The rib meat just fell off the bone and had a really nice spiciness to it that I loved. The kale Caesar was so garlicky and delicious. I (very uncharacteristically) got a burger and was happily surprised because it was very fresh and the bun was well toasted - all around good. The chicken nuggies were well breaded and real chicken instead of ground who-knows-what’s-in-there. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Southie and you should definitely check this little gem out!
This place had great reviews so we took a chance on it and were super happy we did. The chicken wings were highly recommended and because they’re so delicious! We also had Korean and fish tacos which were both tasty with some spicy sauce in them. The Jell-O shots were also fun to take here! Overall, I’d come back for the wings and tacos. The environment was also laid back because it was not a huge establishment. It made the experience even better.
My wife and I went for date night to try something new. It took one meal for us to make this a monthly visit. The food is nothing short of amazing, and the peeps they got there are just as inviting. Chef Asia Mei suggested we come for brunch next time, and she screwed us. Now we don’t know if we come for Brunch or Dinner. Such a wonderful problem to have!
I've had this restaurant in my list of places to visit. OMG, I regret not going sooner. Went with family for brunch. The food superb. Well seasoned, good sizes. The chef says hi, to all the customers, which I loved. The service was great. Great ambiance. Highly recommended. Will definitely visit again.
I love this restaurant. Second time dining in and it was just as good as the first. Obsessed with the beet dip, it is easily the best item on the menu that I’ve tried! We tried a few items from the fall specials selection, too, the risotto arancini were so tasty! Don’t sleep on moonshine 152!
The staff is amazing and super nice here! We got to meet the chef as well! The food is geared toward bar food, definitely get the fried chicken and burger! Our favorite dish was the artichoke salad!
Excellent food, nice atmosphere, great service and reasonable prices! This Chef owned restaurant hits on every detail. Chef Asia delivers food right to your table. The quinoa and warm kale caesar salad with chicken was perfect. Rice bowl was also great and everyone was very friendly. A++++++
A great restaurant to enjoy delicious food. The space is nicely designed and decorated and the layout is good. The service was very friendly and accommodating even with our the large group and the chef checked couple of times if everything was good. The food was delicious, most of the meals we tried were very good. The Leslie Knop fried chicken and waffle was tasty (I was sold by the name of the meal since I am a fan of that show). We tried as well several desserts and they were good. A recommended place for an enjoyable dinner!
What a gem! We visited Moonshine 152 in Boston during a family trip from California and had an incredible time. Chef Asia Mei, daughter of my TaiChi teacher, Master May Chen is truly gifted. The menu is a vibrant fusion of Asian flavors, and everything we tried was delicious. The Korean BBQ tacos were especially spectacular! The atmosphere is upbeat and welcoming, the drinks were fantastic, and the staff made us feel right at home. Whether you’re a local or visiting Boston, this is a must-try spot for a fun and flavorful evening out.
Such an amazing menu and staff. Warm and modern flare. Great location just hard to find parking during busy times but been recommending to everyone. Cant express how amazing the food was and owner/chef was very nice and accommodating. My new favorite boston restaurant
Loved the atmosphere, the staff, and the service and the food was amazing. The chef herself brought the food out and that level of personal interaction with the person who’s cooking your food is a unique experience. Will definitely be coming back. The lamb meatballs were so good and was my favorite. Went back for brunch and enjoyed everything.
I’d heard a lot about Moonshine, and finally had the chance to check it out. We came in a little late (around 10:25pm, with the kitchen closing at 10.30pm), so things felt just a bit rushed, but the staff handled it with fast and friendly service. The food really blew me away—especially the jalapeño crab Rangoons and the bacon-wrapped stuffing bites. Absolute standouts! Drinks were tasty too; the garnishes could’ve been a touch more polished, but I get that the vibe here leans more toward comfort and creativity than fine dining pretension. What really makes this spot special is the personal touch—the owner, who’s also the chef, came out with the food herself. She’s not only talented in the kitchen but also a great artist, which adds so much character to the place. Definitely want to come back soon for brunch—if dinner was this good, I can only imagine how amazing their brunch spread must be.
Out of this world delicious. This place is on an other completely different level than any other place that serves food. Cos this place does not serve food. It delivers the most unique, delicious, custom, savory, sweet delicacies from the beautiful mind of chef Mia. This is a bucket list spot for and serious foodies. You will cherish the experience here.
The reviews speak for themselves, a true neighborhood gem in Boston. Chef Asia truly makes you feel like you’re at home and brings all the dishes to you personally! I was blown away by her service and creative dishes. The food was unique and exceptional. Can’t wait to come back.
Soo tasty. Super conveniently located spot that serves thoughtful ~flavorful~ dishes often brought out by the chef and owner, Asia, who is so pleasant to interact with and clearly loves what she does. I prefer brunch because the vegetarian options are typically a bit more abundant. Dinner can be limited, depending on the seasonal menu making dinner only 4 stars for me, brunch an easy 5. Make sure you bring your SPF for the patio! ☀️
Guys... this is a must. We've been to Michelin star restaurants and Chef Asian takes it to a whole new level. It was genuinely a gift to be on the receiving end of her calling as a chef. Every bite was art. There's no other way to describe it. Absolutely must go! The crab rangoon wontons alone blew my mind. And the Korean tacos were beyond fantastic
The FOOOOD. Omg. We came at 11:30am on a Sunday and had chicken & waffles, Greek yogurt parfait, and mushroom & swiss omelet. Everything was absolutely delicious. The coffee was so smooth and not bitter. Atmosphere is cozy and colorful. Service is amazing. 10/10.
First of all, I’ve never been served so quickly at any establishment. And by the owner, no less! We established great rapport with other diners which made the experience an absolute delight. The food was exquisite! The fusion of flavors was subtle but delicious. I was skeptical, since what Asian twist can you add to schnitzel? Oh my, every bite demanded savoring. If you get yo Boston and don’t try Moonshine, you’ve missed!
This place is soooooooooo good. The food is out of this world. Way better than anything I’ve ever had in Southie and I’ve lived here for 7 years. The chef is an actual angel. You can tell she truly cares about each item. The food is so flavorful and creative. We got the crab rangoon, fish tacos, and the chipotle pulled pork scallion pancake quesadilla. Everything was so damn good. Down to the fries. Best I’ve ever had. We couldnt stop raving about the food. The owner / chef, Mei, then brought us these little espresso martini Jell-O shots on the house, which again, was an explosion of flavor. If you’re looking for spot with a super cool vibe and top tier food, this is it. Crowd is definitely people more in their 30s which is hard to find in Southie. Now I have a hidden gem and won’t be fighting for a seat in Southie for subpar food. Will def be recommending and coming back.
Father's Day dinner at Moonshine 152 was an adventure in flavor. We were lucky enough to have fabulous service from Sandra. We chose to eat family style starting with cocktails and then into appetizers. We shared a few entrees and wrapped up with some amazing deserts. Asia brought us some of our dishes and chatted with us. It was an exceptional experience.
Moonshine 152 was a great stop on our visit to the area. We went with a tapas/appetizer approach and we weren't disappointed. The jalapeño crab Rangoon were probably the best I've ever had. Scallion pancakes were really good as well. Everything was great there! We had a great time, and would definitely come back!
I stumbled across Moonshine 152 on my first night in Boston for a business trip, and I’m convinced I found one of the city’s culinary gems. The cocktails? Spot-on. The food? The kind that makes you pause mid-bite just to appreciate it. And the service? Let’s just say the owner/chef herself came over to our table, chatted with us for five minutes like we were old friends, and even surprised us with a free butterscotch pudding (which, by the way, should be illegal for being that good). I loved it so much, I came back the very next night and it was another flawless experience. Two-for-two on incredible meals, creative drinks, and warm hospitality. Moonshine 152 isn’t just a restaurant, it’s the kind of place you immediately start recommending to everyone you know. Also, our waiter, Ben, was funny, attentive, and fun to talk to. Five stars, no hesitation. If you’re in Boston, do yourself a favor and go. Then go again.
We had the crab racoons as an appetizer, my husband got the burger, and I got the bao pork buns. Everything was absolutely amazing. Our server was friendly and the wait times were short. We sat outside and although its a bad spot they make it feel cozy.
1st meal as a new Boston resident . Food was amazing. Staff members were professional and friendly! Thank you for your warm welcome. We look forward dining at Moonshine in the years to come. Chef Asia we LOVED every dish!!!
I had a great dinning experience. The owner and head chef even came to out table to bring food and also chatted with us. The food was good. I went for dinner but I heard their brunch is better. So I have to make my way back.
Best casual restaurant in Boston! Chef Asia is a comfort food genius. Every time we dine here we try new things from the menu and nothing is shy from amazing. I didn't take a pic of the burger, but it's hands down the best in town. Every month they have a special burger, I try my best to try them since they are very creative with their fillings.
Seriously yum. Got the chicken and waffles after hearing such good reviews from friends! Met expectations and more. Highly recommend asking for the angry house hot sauce on the side if you like a little spice. Such a wonderful dining experience and can’t wait to go back and try something different!
Fantastic place & Chef Mei actually serves the food. Friendly staff, great food. Would definitely go back.
I don't know where to begin about this place. Asia Mei and her husband, Seamus, have made things so special. Asia is always on her game and always very directed on how she will deliver her menu. What you get is not only the tasty, flavorful food, but it's always delivered with warmth either by Asia herself or by the staff. One of my favorite things to do is trust them when they announce the burger of the month. Just do it. Trust in the force! And thank you to Moonshine 152 for all you do for the community and for us as patrons! It really is a great experience :-)
Where do I start? I was in a tiny bit of a rush cause I had contrast therapy at SweatHouz. Upon arrival, I was immediately acknowledged by the bartenders. I got the steaks frites with patatas and the pavlova. The chef/owner herself came and dropped them off. The food was phenomenal. It looked and tasted even better (I didnt even wanna eat it cause it was so pretty). The frites took back to Paris. The ambience, the staff, the food 20/10. I want to keep this place a secret and not even tell my friends. I am mad at myself for not checking this place out sooner. It's a HIDDEN GEM!
Me and my wife went here on Saturday. Service was awesome. Very normal, comfortable to talk to, and just on point overall. We got two drinks a piece and they were perfect. Food was beyond good. It was truly incredible. Literally the perfect fusion, and the chef/owner also came over and dropped off some items and checked in. She was so nice and even added a snack appetizer on the house that was truly phenomenal. We will def be back but want other to know how awesome it was
Such a great vibe! Fun and friendly, the staff are wonderful. Chef Asia is amazing with preparing food that is full of flavor. Eaten here many times and never have had a bland bite! The lamb meatballs, duck fried rice and tacos are favorites. Also great cocktails. Couldn’t ask for a better dinner anywhere.
Genuinely the best restaurant in Boston. I’ve been here five times and will continue to come back for years to come. The food is the best I’ve ever had, no matter if you think you don’t like something, you’ll like it here. Chef Asia is super kind and sweet, she usually comes around to every table to see how everything is. I love to come every season to try the new menu changes. The portions are great and you get your moneys worth. Honestly a great place to eat, go here !!
The Korean Beef Shortrib Bibimbap was truly otherworldly—honestly the best dish I’ve had in over five years. Given that I travel across the U.S. constantly for work, that’s no small feat. Chef Asia’s hospitality is unmatched; she personally greets her guests and delivers the food herself. She even went above and beyond to create a vegetarian version of the bibimbap for my fiancée. It’s the first time in three years we’ve been able to enjoy the same meal together at a restaurant. If you are in Boston, this is an absolute must.
Great service and friendly servers! Chef personally brought our dishes over. Great place to try for Boston Asian Restaurant Week. Interesting fusion of cuisines to try! Recommend the french toast and scallion pancake quesadillas! The shoe string fries were perfectly crispy. Pleasantly surprised by tasty beet dip and loved the color.
I really wanted to like this place more but the food just wasn’t anything crazy special. We liked the crab Rangoons, they were spicy and way different than a classic crab Rangoon but really good. The kale Caesar was also really good - pomegranate seeds were a surprisingly good addition to this. The crispy rice was kind of a let down, and just bland in general. Both the curry cauliflower tacos and shishito peppers were fine, but both had too much sweetness for us. Service was great and attentive. The vibes here are like an laid back, upscale, nighttime diner? It was a good atmosphere, but the food could have been a lot better for the price point.
