It can get quite busy, depending on the time, so you may have to wait on line. The food was quite tasty. I absolutely loved the steak with onions (bistec con cebollas). I enjoyed the food so much that I visited El Malecon 3 times in one week.

We did take out. Beans and rice. A whole rotisserie çhicken. And fried banana?. All were delicious. We enjoyed it a lot. The order was ready quickly. There is a nice dine in area.

It was a little pricier than I was expecting but food was great nonetheless. Staff are very nice as well. The seating (indoor and outdoor) options are great and food comes out reasonably quickly.

The pepper steak was delicious (and so were the plantains that I ordered as a side). I got some hot coco and tres leche for dessert and it was so good!!!!!!!!!! I recommend this place, because the employees are super nice and the environment as a whole is comfy and welcoming. Best Latin food I’ve had in awhile.

The mofongo and seafood salad was so tasty. The overall vibes and music of the place was good too. This is one of my favorite Latin food places.

Best Dominican Food! We visit el Malecón every time we are in town. The place has amazing vibe. Staff is very friendly, and the service is excellent. Everything that I have tried in the restaurant taste amazing. I love the batidas, especially batida de chinola. Love it so much I end up taking food home.

Hands down the best food!! My go to, cannot go wrong. EVERY single time the food is awesome! The service is excellent. The prices are good too. They never disappoint. I am there a few time a month at least. My daughter LOVES the parrillada, especially the churrasco. It is a must if you are in Washington Heights!

Stopped for drinks and dessert before a concert. The desserts were outstanding! The service was excellent and the drinks were great. I wish we were hungrier because the dinners smelled delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely come back!

Probably the best Dominican/Puerto Rican food in Washington Heights! I came here recently with my boyfriend and his aunt for dinner on a Friday night! They were fairly busy but we were able to snap a table. Because of covid they have expanded to outdoor seating and have plastic partitions between tables indoors. The first thing I noticed when we walked in is the smell of the chicken cooking on the rotisserie. Wow! We ordered the frozen mango daiquiris, a Long Island iced tea and mojito. The drinks are strong and you can get lit off 1-2 🤣! But they were so good & fresh! We ordered the whole chicken, rice & peas, white rice, beans, plantains, potato salad, calamari and empanada! Everything came out hot, fresh and flavorful. I will definitely be coming back! You may have to wait a bit for seating, but you won’t regret it!!!!!!!! Authentic, family-oriented Dominican food!!!

The best of the best when it comes to Spanish food! I highly recommend this place. This place never disappoints me. The staff is super friendly and work as fast as possible. They have variety of food plates and drinks to choose from so don’t worry about that one family member or friend who is picky with food.

Authentic Dominican food. Garlic shrimp was delicious and the tostones were fresh! Worth the trip.

I liked these quesadillas. Maybe they aren't a traditional Mexican one but the flavor was good. Melted cheese with chicken a different dices to try was good. The service is really good and they have a international menu. ------------------- @Elmanidlminguez (Instagram) Food + Entertainment in NY

Great food! I got the roast pork (pernil) and white rice and black bean. Plus sweet plantains. Generous portions for an $11 lunch. Two to three meals out of this serving. Will try again and again. 😋 delicioso! Leftovers picture! If you like my review, please click like.

This restaurant sells a whole chicken or half chicken 😋 how cool is that ? And less I forget, the prices are fairly decent as well. I've been here a couple of times on lunch break and it has never disappointed me for once, the staffs are very friendly and helpful. Most importantly the food taste really delicious 😋 and I can assure you that you'll get the value for your money. If you're around and you need to grab lunch by yourself or with friends and family, I'd recommend this spot. Please like this post if you find it useful, thank you 😊

Fantastic service and experience. Customers are treated well. The beans are legendary. Perhaps the receipe has changed, as I recall the beans were even better in years past. Worth a visit if you're in the area. Ribs are alright. The menu has so many offerings!

Omg I am licking the plate! Been here twice honestly and I tell you I would go every day if I lived across the street from this restaurant. The Pina colocada was deliciously awesome! The chicken soup the best I ever had in any restaurant as of yet! Next time I will take some soup to go. The Shrimp Mofongo again the best I ever had in any Spanish restaurant. The Mofongo was extremely balanced it was not dry at all. The Sauce was so very flavorful you will not be let down. Overall 5 stars for me and my experience. My Waitress was very nice and attentive with my needs. Cheers to the Chef I taste the love in your food, you take much pride in your love of food. To the Own keep doing what you're doing, your doing a Great job! The staff looks happy and works as a team which makes it a pleasant restaurant to dine in. I am totally looking forward to my next visit. Malecon is not a fancy lookin restaurant inside nor outside but who cares the FOOD and HAPPY staff makes it the BOOM!

Nice place in the neighborhood. Feels and looks like a diner, but they serve Caribbean food. The mango smoothie was so refreshing! Lots of staff around cleaning, cooking, and helping guests. Big meal portions! Everything had great flavor.

My go-to place in Washington Heights for Dominican fare. Malecon is delicious, easy on my wallet, and yummy. This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant. I like the pollo al horno (actually, I wouldn’t roasted chicken any place but here) Moro, tostones, and cafe con leche with toast. The staff is also very nice. Lastly, it’s located across the street from the United Artist theater….

I'm happy to have found this restaurant while exploring Northern Blvd. My quest to find different cuisines had led me to try this Ecuadorian restaurant. The waitresses were amazing, very friendly and helpful with the menu. The food was very different and seemed like an adventure. I tried some soup, roasted pork, and another dish with a combination of pork, goat, along with tripe. Modelo Mexican beer went well it the food.

J

Great food and drinks, really enjoyed the sancocho, parrillada, chicharrón, tostones y ensalada de aguacate. But the most interesting thing of the night was the birthday song playing it lasted for almost 3.5 minutes playing. The presidente beer are really good and fresh, you can definitely tell the difference.

Typical Dominican restaurant. Service was quick. Food was amazing. Music wasn't blasting. Waitress was attentive. Always a go to when in the area.

The best Spanish food in town. The rotisserie chicken is so flavorful. The chicken is crisped to perfection. I normally ask for garlic sauce on the side for an extra juicer kick. For appetizers, we order chicken empanadas. I also recommended the shrimp mofongo in garlic sauce. So filling. Honestly this place has a lot of different options and everything is good. Their pina coladas are good as well with an extra shot of Hennessy . Overall great place, good atmosphere, always busy, but you will leave pleased.

N
Nzhingha Nkhrumah

The best Dominican food in The Heights. Their customer service is amazing! Very affordable priced & they give you hefty portions. I ordered the sancocho among other items. It was literally the best sancocho I’ve had in my life besides going to DR. 10/10 all around.

Amazing Dominican food, authentic (so says my Dominican coworker) and our highlights were the rotisserie chicken, the bistec and the 2 different Mofongos we had.

Easily the best Dominican restaurant in New York. It’s a go-to spot for authentic, traditional dishes served in a no-frills, straightforward setting. The staff gets the job done—while they can be a bit slow or chatty at times, they’re generally efficient. This place is a true neighborhood staple. The chicken and mofongo are my absolute favorites.

Malecon Bar and Restaurant is a great place for a meal. The service is friendly and prompt. Food good across a wide range of options. Some confusion with waitstaff on what may contain gluten. Prices make a meal affordable. Food freshly prepared but came pretty quickly.

My goto place for the best roasted chicken in the area. Their motto - El Rey Del Pollo - King of the Roast Chicken. Also tried their other dishes today like the sautéed pork chops and the grouper fish fillet sautéed, with side dishes of red black beans, maduros, steamed vegetables, and yellow rice. All were generous and delicious. Also ordered their Malecon cocktail, diet soda, and finished off with an authentic Tres Leches dessert. We were so full and we still had lots of food to take home. We actually over-ordered. Service was very friendly, attentive, and efficient. Ambiance is cozy and contemporary. The place was packed on a Sunday lunch, very popular.

Pollo asado (Rotisserie chicken) embodies the personality and flavors of Central and Latin American cuisine, making it a delightful experience for anyone from other continents. The concept is distinctly Latino, with intense and wonderful flavors. I absolutely love roast chicken, and this is by far my favorite. The authentic flavors are what make this chicken so delicious. I also enjoy their fresh and natural juices, which contain no artificial flavors. My favorite is the batida de mango with milk, as it reminds me of my childhood. The bathroom is spotless and private, which is excellent. I have returned many times and will continue to do so. If there are any changes, I will keep you updated. One more thing: if you visit on weekends, keep in mind that the place can get crowded during peak hours, so you might have to wait for a table. Be patient.

It was a warm Wednesday afternoon in Washington Heights, and the air was filled with the delicious aromas of Dominican cuisine. I had just met up with my cousins for lunch at Malecon, a popular Dominican restaurant that was a favorite of our late aunt. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who seated us at a table in the back of the restaurant. The dining room was brightly lit and decorated with colorful murals of Dominican landscapes. The atmosphere was lively and convivial, and we could see that many of the customers were local families and friends. Our server, a young woman, came over to take our drink orders from a wide selection of beer and local drinks, like sour sop smoothie. Once we had our drinks, we were ready to order our food. Maria recommended the Pollo Asado (or Chicken Rotisserie), which is one of Malecon's most popular dishes. We also ordered the Mofongo con Chicharonnes, Yuca, and Platanos. The food arrived quickly and it looked and smelled amazing. The Pollo Asado was perfectly cooked, with crispy skin and juicy meat. The Mofongo con Chicharonnes was a delicious combination of mashed plantains, fried pork rinds, and garlic. The Yuca and Platanos were also perfectly cooked and seasoned. We all dug in and savored every bite. The food was absolutely delicious, and we could taste the love and care that went into preparing it. As we ate, we reminisced about our aunt and all the wonderful times we had spent together at Malecon. We shared stories and laughed until our sides hurt. We left Malecon feeling happy and content. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. It was the perfect place to celebrate our family and to remember our aunt. Thank you, Malecon, for making us feel like we were part of the Washington Heights community. We will definitely be back soon.

The closest you will get to Dominican food without being in Dominican Republic. The sangria is also extremely strong, which is an amazing thing. Malecon is probably one of the best Hispanic restaurants in New York City. Authentic Dominican-style food is delicious, portions are big and there are great lunch specials the whole week that include salkocho, roasted pork, beef ribs, baked fish fillets, etc. Staff members are very kind and and they make you feel like at home 🙂. We took the subway to Washington Heights to explore the neighborhoods and worked up an appetite. I picked out the Malecon restaurant in advance after reviewing the menu and the many good reviews.

We were seated quickly and spent a few minutes looking over the substantial menu.

I chose one of the daily specials and my wife selected what she thought would be lighter a bowl of their Sopa De Pollo. A server brought a plate of warm bread and after a few minutes our food arrived - it was plentiful! I enjoyed the Pernil which was slow-roasted marinated pork, served with a side of Moro Gandules (mixed rice with pigeon peas). The pork was so very tender and flavorful - would definitely order again. Honestly, I was not a fan of the mixed rice (I do not love peas) but that’s my fault for ordering. My dining partner enjoyed her bowl of Sopa De Pollo, flavorful broth with lots of big chunks of Chicken. We shared a plate of Maduros (sweet fried plantains). So tasty. The prices were very affordable and the serving plentiful. Although I thoroughly enjoyed my Pork, next time I would order one of the dishes with the roast chicken (you can see the rotisserie in the front window and an employee cutting up the freshly roasted chicken as you enter the restaurant.

12/15/23 met up with a friend that recommended this Dominican restaurant because were were hungry . I just to love coming here for the food since the flavors were very authentic but lately they changed and unfortunately not for the best. Last time I was there I had a fish and it wasn’t well cooked and I had found a piece of plastic on the plate.

I live in the neighborhood, so I had family visiting and we decided to check this spot out. Heard great things about the food. We ordered the wings, rice and red beans with white and yellow rice along with 2 orders of the Mofongo with garlic. There was also an order of the meat platter, which consist of grilled chicken, pork and steak. The atmosphere was busy, nice decor. Our waitress did not speak much English so it was a bit of a struggle to order out food. And we were seated very quickly, but it took a while for someone to come and take our order. And in all fairness we did come on a Sunday Afternoon. I'm The food overall was not all the HYPE we were expecting. The Mofongo was dry, even with the sauce that came with it. The meat platter was ok, chicken was the best, but the steak and pork were to chewy. The wings were not bad, just dry and tasted better when we added ketchup. Overall the food wasn't too bad, just not what we expected. Would recommend this place for an evening dinner or Sunday lunch/dinner.

C
Christopher Todd

Our first experience with Dominican food, and it was great. I had chicken with shrimp, my wife had beef tacos and my daughter had Alfredo pasta. It was all very good. Any of the plates could have fed all 3 of us. In effect we got 9 meals for the price of 3. They even boxed up the leftovers for us. Service was quite good, but there is very little English spoken. We recommend visiting them.

As a cuban cuisine aficionado (Miami being the epicenter!), I entered Malecon with extremely high expectations. Love the atmosphere. Almost has a Versailles (Miami...8th street) vibe reflecting the neighborhood around Washington Heights (think movie...). Loved the "smells" of mom's kitchen. Malecon serves a nice mix of Latin cuisine reflecting the differences between many different Latin cultures. The atmosphere carries the day for the experience. The service targets throughput, which is ok (just focused on serving quickly and turning tables). Pricing for the quantity of food was solid. Just note that it felt like most of the food is pre-prepared in large quantities to help facilitate serving a lot of patrons. This method can result in potentially drier portions or even less seasoning or taste. I liked the food, loved the atmosphere and location, and was most appreciative of the restaurant's efforts to promote our culture! Adelante!

I remember this place from 20 years ago and still got that flavor of garlic and chicken and rice an beans. I wish the service was better. Maybe cause language barrier or something else.

Takes a while to get seated and the whole place feels chaotic but the food is good and almost makes up for it. Half chicken is the move with delicious skin. Churrasco is a large serving and can feed 2-3, but is cooked nearly well done. Overall not a bad spot.

Brought my mother-in-law from DR to eat here during 6:00pm rush hour. Medium frame 30's Latino fella with short dark hair approached me and directed us to sit where we like. Nice fella, professional, great customer service skills & well groomed. He should be in charge of reception, training and directing wait staff. Our waiter was taller thin older Latino. Upon seating noticed tables being properly cleaned. We Both ordered baked salmon, avocado, mashed potatoes, broccoli. Had to get up and speak to waiter because we decided to order salads. He had never come back to our table to see if we needed anything, except to deliver the food. I used the bathroom and it was very clean and cleaned with bleach. This is very important. The same fella that met us at the entrance also came to our table to give us a pan to take leftover food home and took my credit card to pay $75 bill. Super reasonable. Upon departure I gave tip to the guy that met us door, seated us, took care of bill , and gave us food tray and told him split with the other guy. Our waiter was very nice fella but needs a little training to make him the perfect waiter and he would get better tips. The food was good, didnt have to go to the bathroom in an hour, so this tells us kitchen must be clean. One drawback was the music was way too loud for us senior citizens. I felt like I was eating at bodega in Barrio where the 20 year olds are drinking all the time. Music needs to be turned down 2 notches. The crowd was respectable at the restaurant.

The most famous rotisserie chicken in the tri state area, even more than Costco. A Dominican spot that shows you their cuisines global influence and their differences to others like Puerto Rican and Cuban. It's a long standing stallwart in the ethnic food community in NYC. The birds are cooks so long you can almost cut break it down with a fork and once they do and pour that wasakaka sauce on it', it's fire. It's like Hainan chicken with bite. It's a sit down place but with dark casual vibes. It's priced right considering they have a big menu, big, goat stew, breakfast, carribbean items, spanish items, western items all with an island flare. Service is really good if you know what your ordering, if it's your first time and asking all kinds of questions they don't style you out as much. Prices were always reasonable until the pandemic and then they went up, but not alot and not on all items, items you didn't think. Like Costco you gotta use those loss leaders to hook people on items your known for. To me it's not unaffordable and less worth splurging on. I like the shrimp mofongo becuase it's got shrimp and little bits of chicharrones, it's a texture and flavor collage. Shrimp and squid soup is alot less Siete mares and more arrozy if you will. Don't get the paella, get the spanish fried rice, it's less expensive, just as big and to me more flavorful. You'll consider the half chicken with a side order and then see the side order is almost as much as the half order and then order the whole chicken with no sides. Don't forget to get the Wasakaka sauce. It's tangy, sour, savory, spicy, really brightens the richness of the chicken, which is densely flavorful, soft and juicy on it's own. As appetizing as the fried beef and onions is, it's in no way worth it. If you ordered what you think you want it's Peter Luger pricing and you'll be full, but not super satisfied on value. $40 snapper when it's half that at places like Johnnys Reef. It's a must try becuase of the chicken, but not somewhere you could or should eat at often becuase it's value was flavor and authenticity, but it's prices aren't keeping them competative with other cuisines. It's less expensive to eat at Bark BBQ. I love coming here, but it's a rarity and not even a place I go to everytime I'm in NYC anymore.

Always love coming here. Food is sooooo good. I had to order another beef ribs to go. Amazing food. Service was great too.

Malecon has always been a staple in my old neighborhood. Growing up, it was my go-to spot , the food always hit the soul and tasted like home. Their rotisserie chicken, especially, was unmatched and a true part of my childhood memories. Now that I live in New Jersey, it’s rare to find that same quality, so whenever I’m in NYC, I make it a point to pick up food for my family. However, the last few times I’ve ordered, I’ve been disappointed. The rotisserie chicken has not been fully cooked , something I never expected from Malecon. Whether it’s the rush of customers or a slip in quality control, it’s noticeable. This review isn’t to tear down a place I’ve always loved, but to remind the team of what made Malecon special in the first place. Please tighten up the consistency and ensure the chicken is well cooked like before, that’s what made your flavor unforgettable. I hope to see the original Malecon quality return, because many of us still appreciate and believe in what you built.

It almost felt like a quick trip to the Dominican Republic. I really like Dominican food — the fried chicken (chicharron de pollo) and pork(chicharron), the plátanos, the cheese, rice with beans… even the Dominican beer. I just love it all. Other Dominican spots I’ve been to, the staff usually don’t speak English, so it was awesome that our server actually could. Had a great time overall, but wow — the bathroom smell was rough.

Ran here with a couple of friends for a cooldown run to get food because the armory (which we were competing at) had meager food options. We figured this place would have better food. While my Pernil sandwich tasted just fine, my friend wasn’t a fan of what he ordered. If I recall it was something along the lines of a cheese sandwich or something. a very useful tip if you are here with a bit of a time crunch on your hands is just because sometimes the food is “ready to go” when you pre order online in advance is doesnt mean it always is. Overall the atmosphere was great, the restaurant was lively, and the food was a/ok.

Decent food after movie, can be long line, chaotic, quick service kinda and huge menu. I wouldn’t come again. The service is okie and food is so so. I am not a fan but it’s definitely well made for the chicken. They could have use organic chicken for the price. I think they get busy during regular hour. We got here on an odd hour. Good service.

I had the stake and it was boiled, not what I was expecting when u pay 31 dollers for the stake. But my wife had the garlic shrimp and it was really good. The food there is good just not what I was looking for in a stake.

The quality of the food you're given seems to be going down. I hope they develop a system to keep their chicken moist. In the past dozen visits, too many times the chicken has arrived to the table dry and not too appetizing. The sides like rice, plantains, and the mixed salad are always great. Usually you can find a waiter to refill your water although, at times, they seem to be inattentive. I may look into other rotisserie chicken restaurants to see if a better-tasting product is found elsewhere.

Food is good atmosphere honestly forgettable but nothing bad but the service....while no one was rude with more employees that guests we waited a while not juat to be seated but to even be acknowledged, every server and other worker looked at us multiple times but said nothing, walked around pass and damn near through but again said nothing, only after customer's and workers could no longer pass us cause we blocked the hostesses stand we eventually was seated and again not crowded plenty of seats, soon yeah...

I've come here several times in the past as I'm in the area often. I had steak sandwich and my companions had mofongos. Overall, the food was okay, but there was an issue with a morir soñando which tasted fermented as if the milk had gone bad. Only one sip was taken and the wait staff was notified to return the drink. I understand that things can go bad in a restaurant, but it's unreasonable to charge the full price for a drink that has gone bad.

I used to go there often a few years ago and I remember the food being one of the greatest that I would drive all the way from Brooklyn to go uptown just to eat their food. Now the restaurant is already known so the food is ok but not the way it was a few years ago. You can find better spots around the area. The place is nice and clean and the workers are great but other than that the food was ok. The food looks great but the taste is ok. For me, nothing special anymore.

Worst mofongo I’ve ever had. Not sure if it was just mine, but it seems like the garlic was burned. Taste was horrifyingly bitter. Will not be coming back. Churrasco was very delicious—along with the yuca fries.

Been coming here whenever in the area, but prices have gone way up. For food quality, ordered the pernil sandwich, the pork was so dry like eating card board. Throw something in there, onions, sauce, something!

I am giving this restaurant 2 stars mostly because of their TERRIBLE customer service. I was in this restaurant about three weeks ago with three friends. Our waiter was extremely rude, messed up an order of "Pechuga a la plancha limon" She sent a regular order of "pechuga a la plancha" then when told she messed it up instead of taking the whole meal back she brought over a bowl with the limon flavor (it looked gross) the pechuga was over cooked and you can taste the burnt. Next, I ordered mashed potatoes with SHREDDED cheese I was brought over a plate of mashed potatoes with SLICES of American cheese barley melted on it. Then the "bistec encebollado" was so bland, no flavor what so ever. Which was not expected since we were in a dominican resturant... Now to top this whole thing off my three friends and myself ordered enough food that the bill was roughly 300$. We left the waiter a good amount for a tip even though she was rude, carless and messed up our orders. When she takes our money and tip and is cleaning the table she says our tip surprised her because our bill was so high she was expecting more. First of all, I have NEVER eaten somewhere where a waiter comes to the customers and complains about their tip. Extremely disrespectful what if it was all we had left over from our weekend trip to NY? So OF COURSE I went to the manager to complain who did NOT apologize on her behalf nor did she. Our waitress name was Belkys, honestly deserves to be fired. I have attached images below of our food. Do not think I'll return there again. On the bright side I can say the drinks were very good and the environment was very chilling!

i got some food today from here , as i have been for 30+ years. i’ve brought my kids here when they were growing up , & do this this day. they are all 25+ years old and we’ve lived in long island for all of those years as well* i ordered a mofongo con camarones. little did i know that meal came with a cockroach on the side. i am disgusted. this made me so sick to my stomach. to think i’ve been eating here for 30+ years! i’m at a loss for words. I guess things just aren’t as they used to be. Do better.

Everytime I’ve went here or ordered food I’ve been disappointed and disgusted. Dont waste your time. Sandwiches 0/10 , Churrasco Steak 0/10 disgusting, thick and sloppy, uncooked. Baked chicken 0/10 Beans are unreliable. Restaurant has absolutely no quality control. I’ve got food poisoning several times after eating this. Take your money elsewhere ✌️

I ordered their little chicken. It was even worse than the one you get from Costco. It’s probably from the day before. The chicken was too dry and tasteless No flavor. It was terrible.

I ate here on 10/2/2025 and ended up with a chipped tooth due to the fork I was provided with. When I called the server over all he did was take the fork away from the table. When I asked to speak to a manager, they referred me to the busser and counter attendant.

The food was prepared well but the service was lacking substantially. Once I was told to pick a table and have a seat I was given a menu and an appetizer was set on my table. I had confusion with the menu because I don't speak Spanish fluently and fumbled alone through the ordering process. Rice was placed on my table that I didn't order and had to order a different kind. I had to wave at "my waitress" several times because she never stood at my table and greeted me properly to get my order and my preferences. I asked for mayonnaise practically yelling from my table because she stood behind the counter. She gave me a look like I was an inconvenience when I asked for the mayonnaise that was given to me in packets!! wow... I was never checked on during the meal to get a refill or ask if I was satisfied with my food and required anything else. VERY POOR SERVICE. I strongly recommend that my people spend not a dollar in that establishment under the current management.
