Anytime I am uptown at lunch time, I get the half chicken with rice takeout. If I have time, I grab a table and get the churrasco. Every bite is fantastic. Never had a complaint only regrets I didn't get extra for dinner.
We took the subway to Washington Heights to explore the neighborhoods and worked up an appetite. I picked out the Malecon restaurant in advance after reviewing the menu and the many good reviews. We were seated quickly and spent a few minutes looking over the substantial menu. I chose one of the daily specials and my wife selected what she thought would be lighter a bowl of their Sopa De Pollo. A server brought a plate of warm bread and after a few minutes our food arrived - it was plentiful! I enjoyed the Pernil which was slow-roasted marinated pork, served with a side of Moro Gandules (mixed rice with pigeon peas). The pork was so very tender and flavorful - would definitely order again. Honestly, I was not a fan of the mixed rice (I do not love peas) but that’s my fault for ordering. My dining partner enjoyed her bowl of Sopa De Pollo, flavorful broth with lots of big chunks of Chicken. We shared a plate of Maduros (sweet fried plantains). So tasty. The prices were very affordable and the serving plentiful. Although I thoroughly enjoyed my Pork, next time I would order one of the dishes with the roast chicken (you can see the rotisserie in the front window and an employee cutting up the freshly roasted chicken as you enter the restaurant.
Great tasting food, Dominican Style food. Be prepared for well seasoned dishes it is so tasty. It's a usually busy place & the people that work there are polite. The only thing that I wish was better is more Dominican Music & if they would put the volume up a little more hahaha I loved their smoothies too which are great in the hot weather
Working in the area. Coworker recommended this place for lunch. He had the chicken he loves. Have to say probably one of the BEST Roast Pork dishes iv have, “FANTASTIC” Love to be here for dinner atmosphere was great place crowded for lunch. What do you expect for one of the best place in the area. Thank you
12/15/23 met up with a friend that recommended this Dominican restaurant because were were hungry . As you enter you smell and aromas of this amazing food. it does get busy and there May be a little wait to get food, but it’s all worth it!!! Genesis our waitress was excellent. She was very friendly, attentive and professional. The food freaking great!!!!!! Must recommend and return.
The most famous rotisserie chicken in the tri state area, even more than Costco. A Dominican spot that shows you their cuisines global influence and their differences to others like Puerto Rican and Cuban. It's a long standing stallwart in the ethnic food community in NYC. The birds are cooks so long you can almost cut break it down with a fork and once they do and pour that wasakaka sauce on it', it's fire. It's like Hainan chicken with bite. It's a sit down place but with dark casual vibes. It's priced right considering they have a big menu, big, goat stew, breakfast, carribbean items, spanish items, western items all with an island flare. Service is really good if you know what your ordering, if it's your first time and asking all kinds of questions they don't style you out as much. Prices were always reasonable until the pandemic and then they went up, but not alot and not on all items, items you didn't think. Like Costco you gotta use those loss leaders to hook people on items your known for. To me it's not unaffordable and less worth splurging on. I like the shrimp mofongo becuase it's got shrimp and little bits of chicharrones, it's a texture and flavor collage. Shrimp and squid soup is alot less Siete mares and more arrozy if you will. Don't get the paella, get the spanish fried rice, it's less expensive, just as big and to me more flavorful. You'll consider the half chicken with a side order and then see the side order is almost as much as the half order and then order the whole chicken with no sides. Don't forget to get the Wasakaka sauce. It's tangy, sour, savory, spicy, really brightens the richness of the chicken, which is densely flavorful, soft and juicy on it's own. As appetizing as the fried beef and onions is, it's in no way worth it. If you ordered what you think you want it's Peter Luger pricing and you'll be full, but not super satisfied on value. $40 snapper when it's half that at places like Johnnys Reef. It's a must try becuase of the chicken, but not somewhere you could or should eat at often becuase it's value was flavor and authenticity, but it's prices aren't keeping them competative with other cuisines. It's less expensive to eat at Bark BBQ. I love coming here, but it's a rarity and not even a place I go to everytime I'm in NYC anymore.
Malecon has always been a staple in my old neighborhood. Growing up, it was my go-to spot , the food always hit the soul and tasted like home. Their rotisserie chicken, especially, was unmatched and a true part of my childhood memories. Now that I live in New Jersey, it’s rare to find that same quality, so whenever I’m in NYC, I make it a point to pick up food for my family. However, the last few times I’ve ordered, I’ve been disappointed. The rotisserie chicken has not been fully cooked , something I never expected from Malecon. Whether it’s the rush of customers or a slip in quality control, it’s noticeable. This review isn’t to tear down a place I’ve always loved, but to remind the team of what made Malecon special in the first place. Please tighten up the consistency and ensure the chicken is well cooked like before, that’s what made your flavor unforgettable. I hope to see the original Malecon quality return, because many of us still appreciate and believe in what you built.
It almost felt like a quick trip to the Dominican Republic. I really like Dominican food — the fried chicken (chicharron de pollo) and pork(chicharron), the plátanos, the cheese, rice with beans… even the Dominican beer. I just love it all. Other Dominican spots I’ve been to, the staff usually don’t speak English, so it was awesome that our server actually could. Had a great time overall, but wow — the bathroom smell was rough.
Ran here with a couple of friends for a cooldown run to get food because the armory (which we were competing at) had meager food options. We figured this place would have better food. While my Pernil sandwich tasted just fine, my friend wasn’t a fan of what he ordered. If I recall it was something along the lines of a cheese sandwich or something. a very useful tip if you are here with a bit of a time crunch on your hands is just because sometimes the food is “ready to go” when you pre order online in advance is doesnt mean it always is. Overall the atmosphere was great, the restaurant was lively, and the food was a/ok.
Decent food after movie, can be long line, chaotic, quick service kinda and huge menu. I wouldn’t come again. The service is okie and food is so so. I am not a fan but it’s definitely well made for the chicken. They could have use organic chicken for the price. I think they get busy during regular hour. We got here on an odd hour. Good service.
The food was prepared well but the service was lacking substantially. Once I was told to pick a table and have a seat I was given a menu and an appetizer was set on my table. I had confusion with the menu because I don't speak Spanish fluently and fumbled alone through the ordering process. Rice was placed on my table that I didn't order and had to order a different kind. I had to wave at "my waitress" several times because she never stood at my table and greeted me properly to get my order and my preferences. I asked for mayonnaise practically yelling from my table because she stood behind the counter. She gave me a look like I was an inconvenience when I asked for the mayonnaise that was given to me in packets!! wow... I was never checked on during the meal to get a refill or ask if I was satisfied with my food and required anything else. VERY POOR SERVICE. I strongly recommend that my people spend not a dollar in that establishment under the current management.

Malecon's Legendary Chicken Still Reigns Uptown
If you're ever making your way through Broadway uptown, there’s a Dominican spot that’s been a community stalwart for ages: Malecon. It’s the kind of place that’s practically synonymous with rotisserie chicken in the tri-state area, and for good reason. They cook those birds so long and lovingly that the meat is incredibly tender, almost falling apart with a fork. But the real magic happens when they drench it in their famous Wasakaka sauce. This isn't just any sauce; it’s a bright, tangy, sou...
