Native Broadway Reviews
Yesterday was my first visit to Native for a simple girls catch up. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the lovely hostess, and immediately sat with one of my friends near the bar as we waited for our other 2 friends. The vibe was very grown, fun. The food was amazing; I got the Ewa Riro *Chef’s kiss*, with a glass of Rosé. The music was great, made us feel like we were back in undergrad (much appreciated because we miss it bad lol). I’ll be back for sure. Oh yeah, photographer did her big one. Thank you!
Great atmosphere, is you like music while you’re eating you definitely should go here, Dj was smooth, played Afrobeat and afrobeats, R&B, dancehall reggae, some vibe’s,the drinks were good , starters do take a while to come out but it’s worth the wait 20-25 minutes, had a native salad , crispy calamari, Mac and cheese, our server Ola did an amazing service, he checked on timing for everything and came back with updates, for our main we had lamb chops and jollof rice, pan seared salmon with asparagus, a asta dish as well I’d like to say like a Rasta pasta, all of them tasted great, a person who seemed to be the manager was great as well I didn’t get his name, definitely will be going back
Native restaurant and lounge inarguably, has the best Food, drinks and hookah and honestly, I’ve dined at several other west African restaurants in NYC and their food tops it for me personally. From their Jollof rice to the Egusi soup, Suya and more! The ambience, the music, I could go on! I like how calm it is on the week days and on the weekends, they have a life DJ. They have also improved on their music volume which is a game changer. Great date night / Pre game spot. By far one of my favorite restaurants in New York. They can always take my money ☺️☺️☺️✨
First had these wings catered at an event in Williamsburg and was hooked. The owners and servers were so warm and kind. Went and ate in over the summer: Food is bangin. Don’t come in when starving or in a rush and the service will be adequate - all the servers are very sweet. Ordered delivery wings they were still great! Only thing is we got blue cheese instead of ranch which was a bummer.
This place is so underrated. The vibe is actually amazing. It is right on Broadway and every time I go it is never crowded, which blows my mind because it deserves a packed house. They have themed nights Monday through Friday, the food is on point, and the drinks are strong and good. It is a West African restaurant and they also have a location on 125th Street. Mondays are karaoke night and it is always a good time. More people need to put this spot on their list.
This is such a welcoming environment! From the moment we walked in they were all great! The hostess Imani incredible! They literally treat you as if you are walking into a friend’s living room. The food was also wonderful I had fish tacos. The drinks are strong and taste wonderful!
My waiter was Ola. He was really making the night worth coming out. He was pleasant and energetic. He was also very sweet. Definitely have to come back. I had the Pounded yam with Egusi soup (I had mixed meat). My friend had the Jollof Spaghetti with Salmon (I obviously had to take a bite from the food). For drinks we had the Ziti Bo (hibiscus, ginger juice and pineapple juice!) It was all delicious. I don’t know which was better the drinks, the food, or the music!!!!! All was a great experience.
As a customer, I can always count on the flavor from the pepper sauce that’s used to season the jollof, and the jollof spaghetti and I’m not disappointed. The native punch is really good, but so are the zobo kiss and hibiscus margarita. Lee and Cass make the best drinks and I enjoy having this staple in my neighborhood to enjoy on my days off :)
This was some of the Best African food I’ve eaten in Brooklyn! The customer service made everything 10 times better. When I say everyone was so accommodating and pleasant that it really made my first experience of this restaurant a great one. I believe my waiters name was Ola and he went out of his way several times to accommodate my needs. The decor is stunning and the prices are very reasonable. I had the Efo Riro with goat and was licking my fingers for a hour straight in there because it was so good. The goat was perfectly seasoned! I’ll definitely be back over and over again.
Native BK is an absolute gem! Check out my full review on TikTok @thefoodiegirlnyc. The West African food was fresh, flavorful, and truly authentic, every bite felt like a taste of home. Our server, Ola, was incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The highlight of the night, though, had to be the cocktails, their lemon drop was the perfect balance of strong and sweet. Everything came out in an orderly manner. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Truly enjoyed the Afro Vibes brunch! Ola provided the best service, Liza the best drinks, and overall it was a great vibe. The food was delicious and a great way to try something new while still maintaining the core of the food and flavors of the diaspora. We had the Native Bowl w/jollof rice and goat, Chicken & Waffles, suya, jerk chicken mac and cheese, and bottomless mango mimosas. The decor is cute and great for content if needed. The DJ mix was also fantastic!
We came with my boyfriend to eat and it was an amazing experience. The music is amazing, the decoration is unique. you can also watch NBA match if needed. The food is very good, I was especially chocked by the quantity in the plates: they are BIG it’s worth your money. I love how generous they are. The cocktail are quite strong in alcohol but quite original. such a good experience at Native I recommend ✨
I came here for Mother’s Day and let me just say everything was a 10/10. The vibes, the music, the customer service. Just everything, a 10/10. They had live flute performances by @notesoverton on IG, he’s fire. I had the Mac and cheese appetizer, out of this world!! Their chicken? Amazing. While the wait on the food was a tad bit timey, it was worth every minute that I waited. I will definitely be coming back here. Thank you for such a great experience. I’m telling you, you won’t be disappointed!
If you're looking for a memorable dining experience in Brooklyn, look no further than The Native* located at 911 Broadway. This gem of a restaurant beautifully blends authentic West African cuisine with a modern, vibrant atmosphere that’s both welcoming and Instagram-worthy. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by warm, vibrant smiles from the hostesses, immediately setting the tone for a delightful evening. The bouncer professionally checks IDs at the door, ensuring a secure yet friendly environment. The space itself is immaculate—every corner reflects thoughtful design and care. The deep blue ambient lighting casts an elegant glow, while the Afrocentric wall art brings cultural richness and character to the space. It’s a perfect backdrop for photos and celebrations alike. The food? Absolutely exceptional. Every dish is bursting with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and plated with care. Whether you're a longtime lover of West African dishes or exploring them for the first time, The Native offers a culinary experience that delights the senses. What truly set the night apart for me, however, was something incredibly personal. My now fiancé chose this restaurant to propose—because he knows how much I love West African food. With the help of the amazing staff, they executed his vision flawlessly. The Afrobeat music softly transitioned to a love song, and I was surprised with two dozen rose bouquet, an "I Love You" balloon, a handwritten proposal note, and even a cameraman and sparklers to capture the magic. It was a moment we’ll never forget—and one that made us feel incredibly special and celebrated by everyone there. Whether you're dining casually or planning a special occasion, The Native is a top-tier destination. With flavorful cuisine, a vibrant yet cozy ambiance, and staff who truly go above and beyond, this is one Brooklyn restaurant you don’t want to miss.
It was okay. My 2nd time trying African cuisine and I was disappointed that there were non-spicy options. The mixed meat was very delicious. My friends all enjoyed their meals. The music was too loud for dinner conversations and we couldn't hear each other. We asked that it he turned down on several occasions but that never happened. It's pretty expensive & not worth the hype. The server was wonderful and all in all the service was great!!
Arrived early enough for happy hour even though my reservation was set for 6:30. The vibe for a Friday felt a little mid—maybe because it was still early—but the food was really tasty and super good. The only downside was the hibiscus margaritas. I love anything hibiscus, but these weren’t strong at all. I ordered two and could barely taste the tequila. Because of that, I’d rate the place 4/5. Aside from that, the DJ was great, the service was attentive, and the space was aesthetically pleasing. I’d definitely come back!
I’m always excited to try West African fusion restaurants, and stumbling upon Native was no exception. While the service left much to be desired—we waited about 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us, despite several open tables near the bar—the food more than made up for it. Everything we ordered was flavorful and well-prepared. The lamb chops were absolutely divine, and the suya chicken wings were just as impressive. If you enjoy heat like I do, be sure to ask for their pepper sauce—it’s spicy, bold, and pairs perfectly with both the lamb and wings. The zobo drink was the only letdown for me. It was much too sweet and lacked the ginger kick I’m used to, so I couldn’t finish it. The atmosphere started off a bit slow, even though the DJ was playing great music that deserved a more lively crowd. Fortunately, the energy picked up as the night went on, which added to the overall vibe. Despite the rocky start with service and the overly sweet drink, we had a pleasant overall experience, and I’d definitely return for the food and vibes alone.
Another well run Nigerian themed fusion restaurant operated by the owner of Lagos. I loved the Suya quesadillas, and the pepper soup was authentic. Hookah smoking on premises was a turn off.
It wasn’t my vibe but it was cool. If u are into loud music, hookah, and females twerking at their table then “welcome home”! Food was good, very flavorful, drinks were great, service pretty good. Some negatives: we were a group of 9 and we were REAAL close to one another. Also the photo op was behind booths that was occupied the entire time. Also the bathroom was neglected not too dirty but garbage overflowing.
utilized they’re happy hour which started at 1PM & ended at 7 PM. $8 drinks 🍹 Happy Hour 1pm-7pm M-F Hookah Food : Jerk Mac n Cheese Jollof Rice Chicken/ Fish Fries also Truffle option Drinks 🍹: Sorrel Mimosa, Native Punch This is my second time going.. both times the people were nice but they took really long to serve us in between orders . Drinks took long to come out .. 1st time I went was a party in the back so I just thought it was overly packed so it was affecting the service but this time . We were the only ppl in the restaurant for about an hour .. when we first walked in it was freezing …… food was ok .. they do have the option to make any if their cocktails a mockail
The atmosphere is very nice , when you walk in you see the bar first , then you walk further into the restaurant. The service is not so good , takes very long to place order , then longer to get food . The bill takes forever to arrive. The suya burger was good , not a fan of the bun , but it the meat was juicy , I asked for medium spice. The fried rice was not that good , the stew for swallows were really good. The meat wasn’t tough. You have to buy protein separately from the swallows or mains.
The jollof with mixed meat was too spicy and the meat was too tough for comfort like it had been heated several times before I got it. The host gave lack luster energy I kept mentioning it was my friends birthday and she looked at us like so what it’s not 12. Native won’t get my dime ever again for two orders of rice and mixed meat 4 rose wines and still water the bill came too $200+ I should have just went to STK or blend for better service and excitement.
The restaurant is very cozy and split up as a bar/lounge and dining in the back. For dinner it is pretty dark in the back. Portions are small for the price. I paid $21 for this tiny portion of "jollof spaghetti" during dinner. It was very spicy even though the server said it was about a 2 on the scale. It was a small cereal bowl of pasta. It was empty on a Tuesday night, with a few tables occupied. Really easy to rack up a fat bill trying to procure enough food to eat and have a decent meal. It was slow night in terms of traffic but the kitchen produced output like it was a full house. It took forever to get our entrees. Have mercy on your stomach if you try to eat here when it is busy, perhaps on the weekend.
If you want to wait over an hour and a half for your food this is definetly the place to go. The service was just awful. I don't understand how this place is still in business. I had to ask for my appetizers which took a long time then I had to ask for my food. I was on the verge of leaving when the manager said 5 mins which turned into an additional 20 mins. Being offered shots is not a compensation especially when you don't drink and then they had the nerve to add gratuity to my bill. What an insult. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
