Sombrero Broadway Reviews
Absolutely amazing food and even better service. Hands down one of the best Hispanic meals I have ever had. Our server Salvador was fantastic. From start to finish eve was incredible. Cannot wait to dine here again. Most flavorful guacamole I have ever had. Had the steak ranchero, more tender than any I have had at Ruth Chris or Morton’s.
Coming to the restaurant by chance, I was suprised by how many people were there, the beauty of the all decorations and the food of course! The personnel is very nice and the atmosphere is truly welcoming! Location is very convenient as well! The Sombrero burger I got was delicious! Will definitely come back!
We are so glad we stopped here on our recent trip to NYC. The service was absolutely amazing… seriously some of the best service. The manager Deysi (who we asked to join us for a photo) made us feel like we were lifelong friends. The food was so delicious and the drinks really hit the spot after a day of walking in swarms of people. Highly, HIGHLY recommend! And thank you again Deysi for creating an amazing experience.
Very nice spot near Time Square, so glad I stoped by to eat with the family; the service and the food was delicious, in addition to the cold beer Pacifico and the michelada my wife order with the option of any beer she would like. 100% recommended for anyone who would like to try good Mexican food in New York, we order the molcajete mix.😋
great food, great service. This restaurant is definitely on the medium-high end prize of what I am used to, but the food was great, the environment in the outside seating is very calm, compared to the loud bear-like atmosphere inside the restaurant itself. The margarita was to die for. Would definitely recommend.
I LOVE this little cantina of fabulousness. The $5margaritas all of the time, coupled with those shrimp empenadas are the perfect after work wind down, or just getting the party started. Something before or after a show is pretty awesome, too. Again, the $5 margaritas are kinda special. The wait staff is so accommodating. If you get a chance to meet Ms Daisy, the manager, then do it. The warmth of this place flows from the top to the bottom.
After just getting back from Arizona, I thought I had the best Mexican food of my life. I shouldn't have underestimated Sombrero. I had the tacos which were the best seasoned chicken tacos I have had to this point. Their house spicy sauce was like an elevated Valentina hot sauce and I would buy it in gallons if I could. My wife had the quesadilla which, well, was a quesadilla. The chicken was very good in it but let's be honest it's hard to make chicken and cheese original. My in-laws had the fajitas and though I didn't try them they also were blown away by the flavor and quality of the food. Overall, the shining stars and the reason I would come back is the sauce and the tacos. But I would be hard pressed to not try everything on the menu next time.
Anything you order from here is going to be delicious—and this is coming from a Latino from Hispanic/Latino Mecca that is LA. Best part are their $5 margaritas (what?!) and service! If you ask, they will accommodate. Special thanks to our waiter Heavenly Kevin who recommended the enchiladas and rapped us some good music em Portugues!
Best Margarita and Margarita Mezcal I've never tried!! Unfortunately my girlfriend and I discovered this place too late to try their food: I saw delicious dishes passing in front of me. I will have to taste next time! The service is professional and fast but at the same time the staff is very funny and kind. Gracias por esta experiencia!
Stopped by after seeing a show on a Saturday night near closing time. We were asked where we would like to sit and chose to sit outside in one of their enclosures. The service was excellent from being seated all the way through paying the bill. They were friendly and attentive. The raspberry margarita refreshing and the food was also very good. For starters, we shared the Elote de Feria (Street Corn) and it was probably one of my favorite things on this weekend trip. For our meal, my wife had the steak quesadillas which were excellent. I had the steak tacos which were also good, but a little dry for my liking. It was the end of the night, so that may have had something to do with it and I'm not going to hold that against them.
Loved this place! So glad we finally popped in to check it out. Food was fast and tasted fantastic. The atmosphere was excellent as well, had a chill nighttime vibe. The fishbowl margarita was awesome as well, although bigger than we had originally planned to order. P.S. Shout out to our fantastic server Kevin who made us feel right at home! He made our dining experience that much more enjoyable. We will definitely be back next time we are in town from Canada! ❤🇨🇦
Excellent food & very friendly service. Bartender made some of the best margaritas my wife has ever had 👍👍. Would recommend this to any visiting first timers or NY locals.
One of the best Mexican I have ever been, was so delicious and great money value that we ended eating there almost every day during our trip. The service was fast and all the waiters were extremely nice and sweet. Me encantó la comida y el servicio, comimos ahí varias veces y siempre rápido y delicioso. Lo recomiendo
Amazing Mexican food spot with diverse food and ambiance. The staff was super helpful and the food was delicious. First time I had nachos that wasn’t enough toppings for the bottom chips. Reasonable prices, tasty food amazing presentation. Especially for the salad bowl. Nice little Mexican spot in the city 🔥
I was in the area doing some shopping and stumbled across this cute Mexican restaurant! The service was amazing the man who waited me was very friendly! The manager Daisy was a doll so sweet and outgoing! She was so nice about recommending things for me and friends to come back! Perfect spot for happy hour it’s everyday until 5! I will be coming back here again! Really made my day and the watermelon frozen margarita // regular marg is great and strong! A good deal
Really great meal, large portions in fact no one was able to finish their meal. I had a sombrero burger which came with some very tasty chips, aka fries. The staff were very attentive and friendly and the restaurant has a really good atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Wow. So we only came in because this guy “Kevin from heaven” assured us that we had to come in and try the “best guac on the city block” and rest assured it was the best I’ve ever had. He recommended the nachos and churros and we were immediately glad we came in! Drinks are refreshing not too strong not too sweet but they packed a punch. We thought we weren’t going to get taken care of right away because it was busy but Kevin was running around like he was in a race. Kevin single handedly make our experience one we will never forget. Great food, better service! Make sure to put this on the bucket list!!
This would be my 2nd visit to Sombreros the workers are very warm and welcoming. You know this place is good when you have returning customers from the west coast and your regular customers who live in and around the city. Not only is the food favorably amazing and filled with so much of the latin flare its highly recommended. Thank you Daisy and the Sombrero crew for the awesome experience and wonderful hospitality hearts 💕
During training this week in mid-town we visited a bunch of places. This one barely caught my eye as Times Square is an assault on the senses. So on the last day of training I recommend this place to my co-worker and we are pleasantly surprised. The place had just opened, so it was empty, we picked our seats and looked at the menu. My co-worker quickly scanned the menu and found what he wanted, I wanted to spend some time scanning the menu, but got the 3 enchilada special. We had explained that we only had a hour so the food would have to come out faster than usual. After placing our our, the waitress brought chips and salsa. The salsa had a nice kick to it. We gobbled the chips pretty quick. Then the entrees came, my co-worker had ordered shrimp tacos and he was quickly overwhelmed by the quantity of shrimps in his 3 tacos. I got my plate and was impressed with the flavor.
Let’s start with the service: A++ Attentive, kind, welcoming, and with smiles in their faces! Boom! Drinks: awesome! Apps: A+ The guac was very tasty and the queso fundido was pretty good (I recommend getting the guac with it because I do think the queso could use a little extra something; just an opinion). Ove experience: A++ I would definitely hit this place again! I really appreciated the person touch of coming around and checking in to make sure our experience was fantastic. That’s why I think you should give the a try!
Not going to lie, one of the major reasons I am giving this place 5 stars is for its desserts. We got tres leches and churros with dulche de leches. You could feel the freshness in these home made desserts. Apart from this we got the gauc and chips. Guac was average. Also got the chicken quesadilla, taste was good but would have preferred if the chicken pieces within were smaller and not that big.
I definitely recommend this place. Outdoor seating. Gluten-free homemade corn tortilla chips and thick and spicy salsa, yum. Happy hour frozen margaritas are delicious (passion fruit is great!). The enchiladas are really tasty and the taco bowl (basically a salad) is really well layered with seasoned chicken, cotija cheese, tomatoes, avocado, cucumbers, and chickpeas. Check it out, thanks for the great service, we will definitely be back soon!
The atmosphere is nice and chilled. The chips and salsa was good they have an awesome guacamole. My food was amazing i had a burger was cooked to perfection so juicy and full of flavor, for drinks I had passion Mexicana was very tasty and well balanced. The hostess erika was amazing always making sure all was great and the bartender definitely know how to make a well balanced drink. Must go and check out.... A+++++
Feb 10 2023, Visiting from South Florida for NY Fashion week, we said let's try this restaurant and it's not too far from our hotel we can walk. They were so nice from the door. We were seated and given a menu and water which i end up asking for bottled flat water. The server was nice and the manager came to our table to check on us and suggest we order more drinks lol. We didn't care for the Valentine menu just taco bowls, shrimp appetizer and caipirinhas. Sooooo delicious!! When we visit NY again, we will return. ❤️💕
Visiting from Houston, TX Was a great experience. Food was great! I order the tree tacos and the elote. My friend order the nachos. All was great! Ordered a $5 margarita, hit the spot well. Currently with covid- outdoor heated seating is available and sensitized after each guest. Staff was on point 👌 Little wait time for a table. Recommended spot.
I came here with two of my family members before they went back to college. We had a great time drinking margaritas , eating chips and guac, and enjoying the outside weather. Our host and waitress , Daisy and Marcela (I believe those are their names), were absolutely exceptional! This place was a random find for sure BUT so glad it happened. I will be recommending and going back!
Happened to stumble into this place and blown away with the authentic flavors! Amazing food and great service in a cozy ambience. Definitely coming back.
This place is so great! The staff is so nice and welcoming. I enjoy ordering a Classic Margarita Up with the Chips and Salsa. The perfect snack. Go check it out!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ In NYC from Texas for the Lopez vs Stevenson fight. We made an impromptu stop at this Mexican restaurant next to our hotel, and it ended up being such a great decision! The food was absolutely delicious. The drinks were just as amazing, well-made and refreshing. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was friendly and attentive. Definitely a hidden gem and a spot we’d happily return to again! Sunday Funday in full effect!
me and my friend always come here on our lunch hour! i left my wallet there on accident and they kept it for me!! super sweet. the food and drinks are also amazing and greatly priced for hells kitchen.
COME HERE! Everyone is incredibly kind, and their drinks are amazing. Rafael is so sweet and his kindness was unforgettable. The restaurant is so beautifully decorated. We stopped by for the $5 margaritas, I got salt on the rim and it was so yummy. I’ll definitely be coming back! Thank you!
Raphael was so amazing!! The hostess was also so kind and attentive when we stopped by for their $5 margaritas. The classic margs were delicious and the holiday decorations were beautiful. My family enjoyed their meals and we will definitely be back for dinner during our trip!!
We stayed at the Belvedere and just popped in here because it was a block away, my goodness were we blown away by the food! The staff were so sweet and very welcoming but I cannot say enough good about the FOOD! My mom got the chile relleno and said it was the best she ever had. Highly recommend if you’re staying close.
With so much overrated and overpriced food in manhattan, in my opinion, this is one that lives up to and exceeds expectations. $20 entrees with large portions is definitely not cheap, but quite fairly priced considering the location and quality. Some of the best mexican we've ever had, equaling some of the best home-cooked mexican we've been able to have. Along with the food, the service was very polite and attentive, a great atmosphere. Quite spacious seating area considering the location, we came in at around 5pm on a Wednesday and sat all eight of us immediately. The cocktail menu is even bigger than the food menu, with probably 5-6 kinds of margaritas alone, of which they were made perfectly, not skimping on the alcohol. Overall, highly recommended if you're in the area.
I enjoyed the food so much. The molcajete tasted so good!! Elote (corn) was delicious, guacamole 🥑 with the tortillas was delicious . We ordered the big sized drink for 3 of us and we couldn’t finish it. We didn’t make reservations and we were able to get a table. Staff were friendly and helpful. I recommend!
What a hidden gem of a restaurant! Being from Texas, home of Tex-Mex, we were thrilled to discover Sombrero! We had chips and salsa which were fantastic but the sizzling steak fajitas stole the show! The steak was tender, juicy and the flavor was superb! The accompanying vegetables were perfectly cooked and so delicious! We topped our meal off with Tres Leches which was remarkably good! We were greeted with a big smile and assured we would be pleased with our meal. That was an understatement! If you’re looking for a great meal with excellent service in the Time Square area, you cannot go wrong with Sombrero!!
We had a party of 6 and each person ordered something different. Every dish included fresh ingredients, and each entree had amazing depths of flavor and seasoning. One person in our party has multiple food allergies. The waitstaff happily answered questions about ingredients and accommodations. Each staff member was exceptional, extremely attentive, and friendly. Our entire party agreed that this is one of, if not the best meals we had this trip. We can't wait to visit again in the future. Thanks Sombrero for the memorable experience!
We went the weekend before Halloween and when we arrived the place was somewhat packed. Made sense once we got our food which came out quickly. Great big portions, excellent wait staff and lovely atmosphere/decor made this a must. Also it was my youngest daughter's birthday and some of the staff joined in in presenting cake and singing Happy Birthday which we really appreciated.
The food was amazing and the service was even better! The ambiance was cozy and filled with laughter and smiles! Definitely a must every time I go to New York!

Food was good, no complaints. It's near the hotel we stayed at so it's in a good location.
Strolling through Times Square area with some friend I heard $5 MARGARITAS. I wasn't going to say no lol our waiter Kevin was the absolute best. We only got margaritas because we had food not too long before coming there. Drinks are amazing in my opinion and the options/flavors are endless. I definitely plan on returning to try the food.
The quesadilla was tastier than the burrito. The chicken wings are ok but average, not memorable. The bottles of corona beer were seved cold with a slice of lime. The service is excellent. The place was average, not bad. It can get loud depending on how many tables are occupied. Overall, my visitors from France were satisfied.
I was interested in this place because I saw the shareable fishbowl drinks and it did not disappoint! I ordered the smaller fishbowl and trust me, it was more than enough for my partner and I to share. The food was pretty decent as well, the portion of food is very generous. I would definitely come back again :)
I enjoyed our dinner here! The waiter was very attentive to us. The guac was very good but had more flavor in the beginning because the diced tomatoes and onions were on top rather than mixed into it. The chips were warm and crispy. We shared a steak quesadilla which was yummy with the rice. We didn't try the beans
Cute little Mexican restaurant right off Times Square near Belvedere hotel. Stopped in for a quick bite after our flight! Food was good not great. I had the steak quesadillas, steak was cooked perfectly. Husband had the chicken burrito he enjoyed it. Not our favorite rice and beans but we would eat here again. All the wait staff were very friendly and awesome! Pretty good portions for price. Margarita was delicious.
I liked this place! You get a huge servings and the food is tasty! I ordered the Chicken Fajita and my friend ordered a shrimp chimichanga. You really get great value here, the staff were great and this place stays open until midnight on a weekday! We came here after watching a broadway show. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend, and will definitely come back
Not bad... Total Mexican food for white people but for what it is, it is actually delicious. The ground beef enchiladas in green sauce were good. The classic margarita was DELICIOUS. Decor is fun. The only downpoints are therestaurant is NOISY and expensive. But that said, this place would be great for a party.
Sombrero Mexican Restaurant on West 48th Street is a fantastic spot right in the heart of the Theater District. The location is perfect if you’re seeing a Broadway show or just walking around Times Square and want a relaxed, sit-down meal that isn’t rushed. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels lively and colorful, with a fun, upbeat energy that makes it a great place to unwind. The food was fresh, flavorful, and served in generous portions. The chips and salsa came out quickly and were a great start. The guacamole tasted fresh and well seasoned. The fajitas were sizzling hot when they arrived, packed with tender meat and vegetables, and full of flavor. The tacos and enchiladas were also well prepared, with good seasoning and satisfying portions. You definitely feel like you’re getting your money’s worth, especially for Midtown Manhattan. The margaritas were a highlight. Well balanced, not overly sweet, and strong enough to enjoy without being overpowering. They pair perfectly with the food and add to the overall experience. Service was friendly and attentive. The staff checked in regularly without hovering, and everything arrived in a timely manner even though the restaurant was busy. It felt welcoming and comfortable, whether you’re dining with friends, family, or just stopping in before a show. Overall, Sombrero on 48th Street delivers a fun, classic Mexican dining experience with solid food, good drinks, and a great location. I would definitely return and recommend it to anyone looking for tasty Mexican food in Midtown.
My son and I came here for Sunday lunch before seeing an off-Broadway matinee. we shared the nachos and the big burrito and both were delicious and plenty of food for the two of us, almost too much. Server was very attentive. Prices were high (even for this New Yorker), but that’s to be expected in the theater district.
I had what was is listed on the menu as sizzling fajitas. They come with your choice protein, I chose steak ($31). The steak was tender and tasty, I was very pleased. At a few other restaurants, I have tried this dish and found that they pre-cook the steak. At Sombrero, based on the taste and tenderness of the steak, I would say that the pieces of steak included were cooked after I placed the order. The restaurant is on 48th Street, off the corner of 8th Avenue.
Seems more like a place for drinking. Tables too close to each other. Only had chips and salsa, can't vouch for the food. Service slow (understaffed).

We enjoyed our food at sombrero. The atmosphere was fun and the margaritas were delicious. However, we felt very rushed while eating our meal . We weren’t even finished with a drink or our dish and it was trying to be taken away from us. They were trying to turn their tables as quick as possible. We probably will search for another Mexican restaurant in New York City to enjoy.
Not our first choice for dine in however it was around the corner and we were tired after a long day exploring NYC. Server did not read us the specials, which was where we discovered the dish we ordered - tampiqueña- steak with rice and beans. Steak was well done however the flavors of the overall dish were mediocre. If you're a tourist, you should rather spend some time researching and try another Mexican restaurant
These recipes need to be updated or be given updated seasonings. It was bland and lacked flavor. The chicken fajitas were burnt in the bottom, not sure if this is normal but never had an issue with it burning. The chicken fajitas was colorless itself. The $5 margaritas special is a basically small beverage, we actually had to ask for the special as they have signs all around their store. Not sure if the host/waiter forgot we were still there but took forever to get the tab. We had empty water cups and empty margarita cups, empty stacked plates too, yet we had to find a waiter to simply come and collect our cards and handle the bill so we could leave.
Outdoor dining was cute but hot. The high cardboard barriers is good for sanitation purposes but there was no air flow. Inside had large fans, is darker, louder ambiance. Overall was a nice place to hang out. Great service and drinks but food could be better. Wings were large and dry, but not juicy. Wings came with celery. They only had blue cheese not ranch. Drink was good and strong. Steak tacos were dry, came with rice and beans. Not recommended for the food, but go for the drinks and vibes!
The place was highly rated on google so we tried it out and boy was it disappointing. Most of the food was bland, missing that little oomph and taste. Not worth the high prices for sure. Never thought i did say this - they even managed to mess up the classic margarita! Definitely wont be going back
Sombrero Restaurant does a good job marketing with a person out in front pulling people in. That is an effective marketing strategy. Unfortunately the food just isn't quite at that level. A group of us came in for late night dinner. I had the chicken fajita and it was underwhelming. The others in my group who got different entrées agreed that it was adequate Mexican food, but in an area with lots of choices, you need to do a little bit better to stand out. I will say the workers were incredibly friendly and hopeful in the interior ambience is very nice.
Sombrero has a really nice atmosphere, and when you see “$5 margaritas,” you think you’re about to win at life. My wife and I were ready for a good time. We ordered a few drinks, and I got a simple steak taco. My wife ordered the steak quesadillas. Now, the margaritas… let’s just say the pours were so light I started wondering if the bartender was using a dropper. I couldn’t taste any liquor, and my wife confirmed it wasn’t just me. Great deal on paper, but not when the margarita tastes like a lime-flavored memory of tequila. Food wise, my taco was okay. Edible. Nothing to write home about. But my wife’s quesadillas? Delicious. I took one bite and immediately started questioning all my life choices like why I didn’t order what she ordered. Overall, it’s not a place I’d frequent. The food felt pricey for what you get though, to be fair, it’s pretty standard for the city. Nice vibe, great quesadillas, invisible tequila.

Average mexican food. Nothing spectacular to write home about but it wasn't bad. We sat outside in their heated street dining area and being the only party out there, the service was very attentive…
This place is great to grab a drink, the workers are so kind and always making sure you are good. The Downfall was the food the fries had lots of cumin and made the whole food taste horrible I was very disappointed; I left all the fries on my plate due to the amount of cumin/seasoning they had put.
Food is fine, service is good but it is INCREDIBLY LOUD
The service was attentive and location/atmosphere was very enjoyable. However, the food was pretty disappointing. The 'queso' was a flat skillet of melted (I think mozzarella cheese). It wasn't flavorful and just oily and hard to eat as it quickly cooled. I ordered the fajitas which came out looking amazing, but the chicken was flavorless and very, very dry. Good veggies. The rice was odd as well, but the black beans were good. The price is pretty high but not outrageous considering the location.
Pros: \n$5 dollar margaritas \nFriendly staff \nClose to multiple bars & restaurants \n\nCons: \nInedible food \nAwful margaritas \nPricey \nUnderwhelming ambiance
They charge for refills on soda water. 3$ for a soda water and an addtl 3& for the refill. And 5$ for chips and salsa. Hm.
Horrible food! Ordered beef taco platter was brought out in 45 seconds all was premade food! I specifically asked if they were carne asada tacos before ordering? Clearly they were some cheap, hard to chew dry beef! Disgusting
Service was terrible with our waiter, other staff were friendly. The waiter couldn’t answer simple questions about the menu like how many shots are in the 12oz vs 22oz, just one example. Didn’t really care to smile with us. And kept trying to get us to pay even tho it was very empty in here on a Friday night. Then to top it off tip was automatically included which explains the lack luster service. I don’t mind tipping as someone who works in the food industry myself, however this server really didn’t do this place justice and I do believe that tips are earned not expected. Definitely makes a difference in service. Guac was good and so were the wings.
