Pine Tree Cafe Bronx Reviews
Freshly made pizza. Tuna sandwich was good too!!
Good fresh options with an amazing beverage choices.
Good food
Great food a little pricey but what do you expect when you are in the botanical gardens
A nice clean self serve place inside the Botanical Gardens. It offers a wide array of sandwiches and cookies, brownies etc. A cup of coffee or hot tea is delightfully welcome at the end of a tiring but interesting visit to the gardens.
We ate here after enjoying the orchid show. The desserts and drinks were good and not too sweet.
Line out the door, settled on a pre-made sandwich(very good) instead of waiting in line. That's what happens during the Orchid Show!
Very cozy place, you feel like you are dining in a lively hut in the woods! They gave sandwiches, salads, and dessert.
Great food, great ambiance, but it is a little pricey is my only critique.
Best concession food in NYC. Prices comparable to lunch at the zoos, but much higher quality food.
This is a nice little museum cafe with a fantastic coffee menu.
The food is always fantastic. It stays pretty consistent throughout the seasons. There are some seasonal dishes. Their sandwiches are sooo delicious, same as pizza and soups. It gets a bit hectic.
This cafe is located inside the Botanical Gardens in The Bronx. I had a tasty sandwich and a soda. There are public restrooms and the bugs will bite you while wandering the large gardens. There is also a gift shop. Admission cost was $35.00 unless you were a student at Fordham University.
The staff here are so nice. We got a sandwich and soup for lunch and it was perfect and simple. It didn't feel too over priced like some garden/museum cafes and they have a ton of awesome outdoor seating.
My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVED the pizza! It was made with passion and it shows. 10/10! I sure hope that those employees are being paid well. I witnessed an absolutely rude customer complaining about something stupid that was out of the employee’s control. I was getting angry because I HATE people like that. But you know what?? The employee stayed calm. As if it was no big deal. He OFFERED NICELY to get the manager and then the manager was very polite as well. It taught me to be more patient from now on. There really should be a better system to get the people moving. Its chaos.
They have a great selection of sandwiches, cheese and pepperoni pizza and soups and drinks. Perso ally I love their rosted chicken sandwich and the cheese pizza. Have not had luck with their soups, feel like canned soup. Their drinks election is great from coffees teas to juices sodas water and most importantly beer!
They have great grab and go sandwiches as well as a section that will prepare hot sandwiches and pizza and a little section for coffee and latte. Very reasonable price considering it is in the botanical gardens itself. It's a great way to support the botanical gardens by purchasing from the cafe.
A great location for a tasty and tastefully prepared meal. Courteous and professional service. I had a chicken sandwich and soup, even though I was in the sandwich line the woman serving me politely accommodated my need for soup. My friend who is a vegan loved their salad. The seating areas are well lit, airy and clean. There is the option to sit inside or outside. We chose inside because we were cold, tired and exhausted after doing the Tour de Bronx bicycle ride. I am glad we sat inside because it was nice and warm, just right to take off the edge of the crisp Fall air. On the flip side, it was a bit pricey, $48 for soup, salad, sandwich, a coffee and a bottle of juice. But the ambiance and quality food was worth it. I will be back!!!
A convenient spot for a quick bite! It's located right at the entrance and has two different places to order from; a little coffee place and the café. The sandwiches are pretty good and they will warm them up if you ask. They also have soup, pizzas, salads, drinks, chips, and cookies. There is a good amount of seating both inside and on the outdoor covered patio.
Located inside the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. They have some good selection to choose from and I believe the product all from the state of New York
Always enjoy their variety of sandwiches, pizza, soups, and selections of beverages, both hot and cold. New Lavender Matcha latte was very good. It did not have a strong match taste (which was acceptably suitable) and the hint of lavender made this latte an enjoyable beverage. The café is a recommended location to pick up a quick bite or beverage before or after walking the grounds.
The Pine Tree Café at the New York Botanical Garden is a delightful spot to enjoy a meal amidst nature. Nestled under towering pines, it offers a family-friendly menu featuring artisanal panini, Neapolitan-style pizza, and fresh salads. The café's serene ambiance, both indoors and outdoors, makes it perfect for a relaxing break during your garden visit. While prices might be a bit higher, the quality and setting make it well worth it. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, and savor the peaceful surroundings, making your NYBG experience even more memorable.
The service was impeccable! We had the sweetest human welcome us to New York warmly when we said we were visiting from Canada for our anniversary. Cookies and red velvet cupcake were so yummy!
Can't beat the convenience! We enjoyed a beautiful fall visit to the garden and just needed to sit down and refuel. Found a yummy salad and a shady table to sit. Very busy and a little chaotic, but so many options. Nice to see vegetarian options, but would love to see better vegetarian protein options. Thanks for taking care of us!
Loved the fresh oven fired pizza, I love this style of pizza, crust is thin and there is a generous amount of sauce and toppings. I was really hungry so I thought it was delicious. I also got a sandwich which was not quite as good it needed more time in the oven to heat up but it was alright.
Even on a busy day, the Pine Tree Café provides good food and quick service. The premade salads are delicious and fresh, coming in half a dozen varieties at least. Custom made fare also an option. Good portion sizes. New York prices. Service cheerful if not a bit to thorough. A wide variety of drinks. Did wonder why the attendant restocking during the lunch rush was fussing over the precise positioning of every bottle. Was told that yes, people do buy the red wine in a can.
The Pine Tree Cafe is a great quality restaurant at the New York Botanical Garden that offers guests wonderful meals at reasonable prices. When visiting the New York Botanical Garden in January of 2022, I brought and treated my wife and myself for dinner at the Pine Tree Cafe. I purchased a pizza pie for both my wife and myself and we both found it to be well seasoned, tasty and delicious!!! In light of the COVID 19, the Pine Tree Cafe also made sure that its table and seats were appropriately distanced from each other and its hand sanitizers were readily accessible. All in all, both my wife and I very much enjoyed our time and experience at the Pine Tree Cafe!!!
Latte was good, but honestly quite expensive.
Nice place. Members get discounts. So become a member
They have pizza, soup, panni and cold pre-made sandwiches, along with hot and cold beverages. The cheese pizza and lentil soup were both good quality.
Good place to rest and enjoy coffee or a quick bite after a long walk in the Botanical gardens. The views are splendid. The staff is accommodating.
sandwiches were yummy! tables and floors of seating area were pretty grim, could defo use a sweeping every now and then.
Margherita pizza was reasonable, better than cheese pizza which was salty. Cafe is well maintained and with good ambience, better than other museum cafes that I've been to.
As usual with a place within a venue, the prices are somewhat higher than the average enter-from-the-street places, but the food is tasty and has good choices.
Very nice, although the good stuff like pizza don’t come out that often
Food was very good, a bit chaotic in getting food ordered and picked up- mostly due to other customers not paying attention to anything other than themselves.
Surprisingly good food for a cafe, my sister loves the pizza. I thought the tomato bisque was superb.
Pizza was passable. Nothing too extraordinary, but it was fairly good. Not too oily or floppy, but mildly overdone.
Sandwiches were surprisingly tasty for a zoo cafe.
They never have the Mocha available 😢 it's literally the only drink I like to enjoy there. It's now never available. Disappointed.
We eat here most times when we visit the gardens. Decent selection including vegetarian. Always busy. Food is tasty but definitely over priced.
Great sandwiches soups and salads. My faves include the smoked turkey with bacon, the chicken teriyaki wrap, and the grilled chicken with chipotle sauce. Love their curry chicken sandwiches which has just the right amount of spices. Their chili is great for those cold winter days. The. chocolate chip cookies are baked on premises and are delicious. My only complaint is that their prices are a bit expensive. Other than that, the place is a four-star experience.
I must admit I was pretty impressed at the selections. There were quite many choices to choose from including build your own salad. Plus getting to eat in the beautiful botanical gardens it's a win win
Expensive but tasty! Have a fairly large selection of healthy meal options. Must show vaccination card just to enter the Botanical Garden and then into the Cafe.
This is a nice looking place very modern, it could get a little crowded but for a stop in your heading out or in the Botanic Garden, is perfect.
A bit pricey but taste is not bad.
Situated right after the entrance, this little but spacious cafeteria has just what you need to refresh or refuel on a day at the garden. They have a pizza oven, hot Cuban sandwiches and lattes. There is seething in the dining room, and in the back tent. You can also stop in to grab a drink on the way to the conservatory. Just don’t bring it inside.
Vegan eats review: Surprised to find good options and to add delicious and well thought out. Farro salad is packed with deliciousness. Flavors marry well with each other, shallots, olives, capers, golden raisins. Roasted broccoli tofu sandwich was not bland and had a satisfying taste with the tasty ciabatta loaf. There was a tumeric hummus as well but I didn’t have an opportunity to try it.
Food is good but not worth the price. A sandwich shouldn't cost over $10
We could take a casual lunch with kids. It’s not so bad taste.
They had soy milk for your coffee but no other vegan options other than the apple wrapped in plastic at the register
Many quick choices for a snack or lunch at NYBG. Sandwiches, soup, salads, even pizza were offered. Yum.
This light dining is typical unmemorable museum feeding. You don't go to a museum for fine dining! With a little of your imagination you can get some affordable nutrition and get to sit for half an hour. As we used to say in my childhood Bronx,"it could have been woise".
The Cafe is in the NY Botanical Gardens and is a great place to rest and refresh while spending time at the NYBG. It is cafeteria style but has a variety of excellent offerings from bakey and coffee, to fresh salads, pizza and sandwiches. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Mangia.
Food is good, but expensive. Also, little birds are taking refuge from the winter inside the Café. They got into a little bird fight and ant lots of dust flying over our food. Gross.
Food is good but expensive. The restaurant is smaller and kind of messy to order. Eating outside is okay but the tables are not organized and uncomfortable.
Portobello mushroom sandwich was very skipy on the fillings compared to there other sandwich offerings.
I waited in line where it says “coffee” for 15 mins when I got to the front they directed me elsewhere. When we suggested changing the signage we got a long blank stare.
Good assortment of product, prices are very high though. Nice, relatively quiet environment to relax or work for a bit.
No one to ring up your food. Waited but food got cold. Went back to pay when the person sweeping up went to the register.
It's a cafeteria. The food is fine, I typically go for the sandwiches. A little pricey, as you'd expect for a cafeteria serving a captive audience. There's some enclosed seating, a bit warmer than outside, but not take your jacket off warm. It's fine.
This is a moderately small but pretty clean lunch spot for your day at the park. They have coffee and pastries, soup, sandwiches, pizza (fresh), and salad. I paid $14 (w/ tax) for a make your own salad, with 4 toppings. it was fresh but definitely over-priced. For that price I would expect to have avocado, or eggs as an option. Didn't ask but seems to be nut free, with a lot of vegetarian & vegan options. Lots of seating available!
Food is good, better than what one might expect from a touristy place, but the price is definitely touristy. A sandwich is like 12 bucks! Yikes.. but the vibe is good and the view from the cafe is very relaxing, although it's not as awe inspiring as the description says about the 100-foot pine trees from around the world. I would give this place another star if prices were better.
Food is fine. They were totally understaffed when we went and my wife kept getting redirected to different cash registers because there was no one working the main register. It took her 5 minutes just to figure out where to pay then she had to stand in the coffee line with her hot food behind people ordering their coffee and muffins
In my opinion the food was overpriced. When we went, there weren't many servers there either so if you wanted soup, pizza, or sandwiches it was unclear how to get them. In the end we got snacks from the fridge and they were fine taste wise, but were too expensive for what they were.
High prices for bad quality. It is disappointing as the garden is so lovely, and it is the only spot to eat or drink something
The Pine Tree Cafe is located in the NY Botanical Gardens. The food is ok with a selection of sandwiches, salads and pizza. Cafetaria style setup. Prices are astronomical. Better to eat before or after your visit to the gardens.
The food is good and fresh. There isn't much of a selection, sandwiches, salad or pizza and coffee drinks. Only one person was behind the coffee counter and the line was very long while I was there. There isn't any atmosphere to speak of, unless cafeteria is an atmosphere now. There is a big glass wall so you can see outside. The cashiers were polite and helpful.
I would agree with most of the reviews here which state the food is okay, but the prices are outrageous. The NYBG itself is not priced for the entire community access. The prices for entry are dismaying to those who live here, even the "special" discounts. So don't expect their food venue to be priced in a way to accommodate the diverse community As it was, my husband and I, shared a large cup of great coffee. Bring your sandwiches & get a drink and sit down and enjoy the view. Great area for birders!
Just to manage expectations the food is fine here, just overpriced in my opinion for what you are getting. The coffee has coffeine in it no doubt, but far from a decent latte you may get in another place. All in all, it's better to grab sandwiches on your way to the botanical garden.
Very expensive! had no hot coco when i came was disappointed my sandwich got burnt too 🤷🏼♀️
I guess the 1 bonus for a tourist eatery is that everything wasn't fried. The sandwich was basically $16 airplane food though.
Went to this place and the manager was very unpleasant asked for seating and the tone of voice was very nasty. Worst customer experience ever.
Overpriced. Hot chocolate was 4.50 for small cup. Do yourself a favor and find a better venue.
As with any food at a public venue, the food and drink are way over priced. I'd suggest the sandwiches if anything. They are on par with a pret a manger quality if you're looking to compare, but the prices are near double ( in the 12.95 range). They have personal pizzas for the same price. Admittedly the crust for these are good but the rest was...meh. it hurt to pay those prices but you're at their mercy if you have nothing else. I would highly suggest bringing your own food.
Food was ok for grab and go. I have one leg and the place was completely packed with no available seating so we went to sit on the grass right next to the seating area. An employee started yelling at us that we could not sit there and when I explained that I have no leg (I had shorts on, this was no secret) and asked where we could sit, all she did was continue to yell at us instead of offering another seating option. We finally found a free bench around, but really poor customer service and completely no regard for the sensitivity of the situation. Only gave 2 stars because the pizza was pretty good, but pricey.
Outrageously overpriced for less than ordinary snacks, sandwiches and salads. Paying more than 12 dollars for a tuna sandwich and 4 dollars for a drink in an public attraction that is supposed to cater to families is not only unacceptable but plain immoral. That some people have been made to accept the argument that "these prices are normal for New York City" is most surprising. Do what many other families do. Pack a lunch and eat it outdoors in one of the many picnic areas that are available for that purpose.
Food in the park. I know, I cannot expect much. I wish they will just keep the standard hot dogs, nachos or whatever like they had in the old days. Everything's overly priced: - bottle of water $4.50 - nothing special chicken sandwich $12.50 - individual fake pizza $13.50 Lots of cheese doesn't mean a good pizza. Check out the real world recipe please.
Food was good but extremely expensive. Customer service was dire: the person taking my money at the cash desk was so busy talking to another visitor (who seemed to be a friend) that she completely forgot to make my coffee. This was quite early in the day and they certainly were not busy, but it took ages to get (partially) served.
Rude encounter with barista. He got upset when I asked to add onto my Latte. Pizza was burnt but staff was polite, besides that beautiful views at the garden.
Expensive premade sandwiches and even more expensive coffee, baked goods and made to order sandwiches. $4.50 for a bottle of water. Food was mediocre.
Very underwhelming... I ordered a warmed caprese sandwich and was completely forgotten about. After about 30 minutes I asked about my sandwhich as everyone that ordered after me had already gotten their meal, and the employee admitted she forgot about my order. In total, I spent $41 for 2 people=2 sandwhiches and 2 sodas. It wasn't worth it at all in my opinion, you would be better off getting food near the botanical garden before heading in.
Expensive, small can of beer for $10+
Burned my pizza and instead of making me a new one, they made an entire batch of pepperoni pizza (which I can’t eat). I got to sit and watch hungry and frustrated while the rest of my party ate their meals and 3 unordered pepperoni pizzas sat doing nothing. So frustrating and rude and pointless. Would it have been that hard to NOT put pepperoni on one of them?
We came here for lunch in he middle of our Orchid show tour. Food was pretty bad, and definitely overpriced. I had a tasteless chicken sandwich on stale bread with hardly any chicken. My son had a mediocre pizza. I stood in line for 10 minutes for an avocado salad that.... Oops... Had no avocado in it. I never met a cheesecake I didn't like until I met their teensy blob of tasteless cream for $4.50. But the final insult was when I ordered a double espresso and didn't realize until I sat down that instead they gave me a lukewarm plain coffee in an espresso cup. I'd avoid this one unless you really need food immediately.
Brought a salad but found worm in it so I told the staff but she just said it’s not a big deal and that you are around garden but I was inside the cafe and it came out of the romanian lettuce.
Yesterday, I order a cheese pizza. After I ordered, I noticed a cheese pizza sitting on the counter to his left far corner of his counter. The other guy is there making pizzas, all freshly made. The one who took my order took the pizza sitting on the counter and heats it up and serves it to me. Of all the non Asian people who were there before me and who were waiting for their pizza; as the only Asian person there that I could see; I was given that old pizza. I can assure you that pizza never left that area. Truly truly sad that he is being paid to be a racist.
Worse cafe mocha ever. Hershey syrup with coffee. Yuck. Plus sanitation safe guards were not being used. Servers wearing no gloves put hands/fingers in paper cups. I survived. Botanical garden lovely!
Asked an employee if they had more selection of beer (only 1 ipa left). Employee said with attitude no what we have up there is all we have. Minutes later saw others walking out with lagers.
The prices are outrageous. The food is mediocre AT BEST, the sandwhiches and pizza are always cold! Don’t go there! The coffee is always fresh and hot 👍
I had eaten their food before and it is good. But this time I had the $5 hot chocolate, It was horrible, I know it is water base. I tried to fixed it with cream that it is available for the coffee but It didn't work. I love the botanical garden. Not trying to upset anybody just giving my opinion.
Service is awful in the coffee/pastry section. Ordered a few drinks and pastries and waited on the side for the latte we had ordered. After seeing a group after us receive their drinks, I questioned where the latte was. After asking where my drink was, he rudely remarked that the group was there first. They were, in fact, not, and there were two groups after me, in which I explained to him, only for him to rudely say he "knows because he's the one who checks out the orders". Since I had plenty of time to wait and focus fully on the orders (the phone was low on battery), I noticed there was never any communication between the baristas taking the orders and making the drinks. The barista in the back was just listening to folks' orders without communicating with each other, so whether he hadn't heard our order of latte amongst our order of croissant, Christmas tree cookie, cheese danish, hot chocolate, latte, and drip coffee is uncertain to us. After asking where my latte was, seeing many other espresso drinks being given out, the one in front is practically yelling at me for a simple question: Where is my drink? The group behind us had already received their order: a cappuccino with an extra shot, a latte, and an americano. His outrage at my asking made me flabbergasted. HIs condescending tone of saying he was in fact correct and that his hand gesture of checking his imaginary notepad is not wrong. The review above is for the barista working on 2025-12-20 in the morning, between 11am and 12pm. The barista in the back was diligent, but the one in the front would benefit from a customer service class, perhaps not yelling at customers for asking where their order is, a good starting point. Overall, bad service and below-average Lattes. Deterred us from going back to the botanical gardens again.
