Ako Brooklyn Reviews
Food was great, atmosphere was amazing and the customer service was top tier. Thank you for making my mom’s birthday a memorable one.
I very much enjoy the covered outdoor patio in the back! it's perfect for those of us who prefer highly ventilated areas, but is totally weather proof, comfortable, and clean. it feels like an extension of the restaurant, and they have outdoor heaters installed out there during the winter (although they would only be on if people choose to dine in the patio) additionally, the food, service, and atmosphere is great! coming here for the lunch special is always a treat. I always get the "any three rolls". highly recommend.
Ako is such a special little spot. Delectable really. The people here are genuinely kind and welcoming in a way that makes you feel happy right away. The fish is fresh, simply prepared, and really well sourced. Everything we ordered was incredible. The purple sweet potato fries were unique and delicious, perfectly crispy with a matcha mayo that paired so well. The matcha tiramisu to finish was light, not too sweet, and a really nice way to end the meal. It was our first time here, and we came to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. They made the night feel special, and we will definitely be back. Thank you!
Food is delicious. Inside atmosphere is small but mello. Never dined in patio area but seems ok. Staff does the best they can. Nevr had a problem.
Get the sushi reserve and four season. Thank me for the rest of your life. The staff is also super nice and professional always. Been here like 5 times now. Rudy is super friendly !
I had a negative experience involving missing condiment (soy sauce) and delivery, however the restaurant wanted to make it right and they did. So this is an updated review. I ordered chirashi for lunch and it is a good value. I enjoyed that the fish and rice were packed separately, and rather than soy sauce packets they provided it in mini cups so that you don't have to fiddle with opening the packets. While I had one negative experience, I believe that was a one-off and I can tell from my communication with them that they care deeply about their reputation in this neighborhood and have an attentive manager/owner.
Ate here on our Thanksgiving NYC trip. Flew all day from CA so we were starving. Got seated in the back room on the big picnic table. Plenty of room. Ordered an assortment of rolls and sashimi. Delicious. Coming from CA we have high standards for sushi and this place delivered. Service was excellent. Never had an empty water glass or dirty plate. Highly recommend Try the spicy seafood soup. You won’t regret it
Such a great spot! The ambiance is amazing. Plenty of warm lighting, comfortable seating, and heaters above seat to keep everyone comfortable. The service was phenomenal! Quick, attentive, and they went out of their way to accommodate us. The sushi was TO DIE for. We ordered many rolls but the “sushi for 2 deal” is a must. Great way to sample many rolls. We also ordered the Lychee Sangria which was honestly the star of the show. 10/10
Delicious food and crazy convenient location. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for tried and true sushi options. They have happy hour on weekdays incl. Friday from 5-7pm. Got here on a Friday around 6:35pm and had plenty of seating- they have indoor and outdoor patio. It was pretty packed by the time we left around 7:20. Food was amazing. One of the best miso soups I’ve had and the special rolls were delicious: Golden Dragon, Four Seasons, and Ako Wasabi. We were so full but taste palettes wanted more! If you’re looking for a cozy, great services restaurant with the classic sushi options and their takes, this place is great!
This is an adorable Japanese restaurant serving super fresh sashimi and sushi. You can watch them make it from behind the counter and there is a lovely back garden seating area too. The staff were fantastic, so lovely and efficient. I came for a low key birthday meal (4 people) and it was perfect.
The food and the service were both delightful. The waitress was very attentive. The chicken teriyaki was perfectly cooked. The chicken was succulent and flavorful. The salad even had a very addictive dressing. The sweet potato tempura roll was crispy, with the right amount of flavor. Overall, I am quite pleased with this establishment.
Came here for quick bite. Food came out fast and was fresh, delicious and hot. I had edamame, miso soup and eal avocado roll. Very yammy. It was not too crowded on a Monday night. But i was alone and sat at the bar. Sever was very friendly. Atmosphere also was very relaxing. Which made my crazy monday much more calm. I wish i had this type of place in my neighborhood.
We stopped here for lunch with a time crunch - the service was swift, food was delicious, and we made it out in 45min which was amazing. The most beef negimaki I've ever been served. The back area has greenhouse vibes and it was a very nice ambiance. We would love to return and be able to enjoy it without any time constraints. * Edit: We've returned a few more times and it is definitely a favorite in the area. Service is always great!
We gave this place a try and we did not regret it. All the other sushi restaurants in Williamsburgs are either hard to reserve, very expensive, require $50-75 no show fee deposit or closed on Mondays. We reserved for 7:30pm on a Monday night and upon arriving there were plenty of seats. The host asked us if we would like to sit in the back outdoor area and we said yes. It is beautifully decorated in the back, with lights, a mural, but you will be hearing the zapping of mosquitos and getting a few bites! We ordered a tray of sushi to share, some speciality rolls, an udon dish, gyu-don rice dish, and purple yam fried and karage. The appetizers came promptly and they were so good, the chicken was hot and fresh and came with sauce and a dipping salt. The purple yam fries were very interesting and I think it came with a matcha sauce. These two appetizers are really good and a must try. The sushi came and it was the typical rolls, not the best sushi quality but that is okay because it was still good and presentable, and this isn’t a $$$$ type of restaurant. The udon was good and so was the gyu-don beef over rice. We also ordered beers and cocktails which were good. Our party enjoyed our time here, it was quiet, soft, ambient, the food was good, and it is a great place to catch up with friends over a meal.
The best Sushi restaurant in the neighborhood. All the rolls are on point. The fish is always fresh. I highly recommend the the Crunchy Scallop roll. What I also like about Ako. is that all the staff treat you like a regular. They are always making sure that you are happy with the food and service.
Great spot for casual Japanese food with a cute patio. Good for a quick lunch, or a dinner date. This place has been a neighborhood staple, and glad to see they have improved over the years. The staff is still the same friendly people. The food is delicious yet isn’t expensive. They have a good selection of sashimi, sushi, and rice bowls, and noodle bowls.
Great place in the ‘burg to grab classic rolls. Ambiance was great. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. Service was quick and sushi was tasty. Good spot that’s not too $$
My first time here and it’s like they expect you to know what’s on the menu. The food was okay but didn’t get to enjoy it because it had mushrooms. I even asked what comes with the bento box he said “lo mein , rice , California roll”. I get the bento box it’s full of mushrooms no lo mein. It has the potential of being better but please remember not everyone has been to your establishment before. So if you are going to add mushrooms it should state that in the menu or the server should be knowledgeable.
Ordered takeout from here for probably the 2nd or 3rd time since I live nearby. The food is ok but unfortunately the portion sizes have gotten smaller and smaller. I know sushi is expensive but my $40 of food would have been half the price (or twice the food) somewhere else. Sushi rice was small, sashimi cuts were 1/2, maybe 1/3 of what they should be. I won’t be ordering from here again.
This is my go to sushi spot when in williamsburg. Unfortunately, the owners are not friendly and will openly treat others better than they treat poc. So if you plan on going here and want to be seated quickly and acknowledged bring your yt friends with you lol. I tip everywhere I go but I did not tip even a penny after eating here. The guy that walks around with the man bun is so rude and all they do is walk around staring at certain tables like we’re gonna steal the chopsticks or something. It sucks because their sushi is actually really good, but the service isn’t.
