Ako Brooklyn Reviews
Just came here for Valentine’s Day dinner. Loved it so much. Would recommend go anyone. Amazing service and great food. Can’t wait to come back!
Very cozy, great service, amazing sushi !! :)
Came here with my husband and friend. The atmosphere was cozy, food was top notch, inventive, and fresh. We loved everything we ordered. The service was very on point. Can’t wait to come back!
A Williamsburg staple, been coming here since I was 10. One of my favorite sushi spots to go to and their entrée dishes are always a hit. I take all my friends here whenever they visit me.
Our server Dianna was so kind! She was so sweet and understanding of our order. It was the first time I’ve come to Ako, as my friend and I saw it while walking home, and decided to go inside. The service, especially by Dianna that we will definitely come again. Thank you!!
Had an excellent dinner here. We ordered a nice variety of dishes including the shrimp shiu mai and multiple types of sushi and all of it was fresh, perfect temperature, and very well portioned. The drinks were great as well!
Stopped in here while thrifting with my daughter and nephew; there were plenty of options on the menu,a mix of classics and specialty or signature rolls and hot dishes. Everything was very reasonably priced. The service was quick, professional and kind. It could have been cooler inside, and the music was generic pop hits but I would absolutely return!
This is my favorite sushi spot in Brooklyn. My boyfriend and I come here every single week, ordering the same things because we like it so much. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Nice backyard in the back if you’d like to sit outside (inside seating is available as well). Quality of the 🍱 is great every single time and the check is always reasonable. Check it out sometime. 😉
I been coming here since 2014, I never had a complaint about food or service. The sushi is great especially if you come for the lunch special deal. The staff always greets me at the front door and I never wait long for my food, If I do wait long it's because it's busy since it is a top 10 sushi place in Brooklyn. Sushi is always a 5/5. Service 5/5 and good times 5/5. If anyone disagrees with my review is wrong especially I seen Ako come up over the years in Williamsburg and hope they stay forever. Yes price for food went up since 2010 but that's definitely due to the economy. Long story short great sushi at Ako. 🍣🍣 🍻🍻 🍻🍻
Not a bad note about this place. Friendly people, great sushi, greater desserts. I'm going to tell you to get the cheesecake and tiramisu at a sushi spot, and I know how that sounds, but I've never steered you wrong before. The eel melts in your mouth, the roe is poppy, and the tempura is light an crispy. The sushi entree for 2 is a good place to start.
i came here after a tattoo once for a quick lunch and it was delicious! came here again after a concert with a friend after remembering this place around 9:30, we were seated in the back right away and the back garden seating was so cozy. it was covered but had heat lamps and hearing the rain patter on the roof was so comforting and nice. the food was DELICIOUS. the rock shrimp tempura had the most yummy honey mustard sauce and i could’ve had a whole second order. my friend and i loved the vibes of the restaurant. it was so great and i’d definitely recommend it for anyone looking for delicious, fresh sushi.
Got take out. Always great. Can't go wrong with their bento boxes!
Amazing sushi, really nice staff! Salmon and mango roll was literally so bomb. Also got the white tuna and jalapeño roll and the jalapeño was roasted to perfection. Got shishito peppers that were glazed in soy with bonito flakes and the karage chicken! Everything was amazing, would love to come back!! Also the atmosphere was amazing and so beautiful and airy <3
I been going around Williamsburg restaurants trying different foods and I have pass by Ako a lot of times and I didn’t notice this gem. The patio seating is great, warm and cozy. The sushi was fantastic. We started with the tuna tataki and the edamame. Then some rolls. The rainbow roll was delicious. The staff was great !!
Great backyard, great location, fresh delicious fish and good service. Ako is a solid sushi spot on Bedford Ave near the L train station. It costs about the same as other restaurants in this area. There are reasonable lunch specials too. The backyard is great, on the sunny September day I visited it was quite busy in the backyard area. Calm and pleasant, this place is solid. You will be happy with your meal here
I've been eating hear regularly for over a year now and I really like this place. It's consistent! The prices are pretty reasonable for Williamsburg. The back outdoor area is really nice when the weather is good. Everything I have ordered here has been good. I especially like the tempura, including the Rock Shrimp Tempura Appetizer.
As soon as I entered I was greeted with a smile. I came in for lunch with my friends and we sat down in their back yard area. Very calm atmosphere with new renovations. We made sure to try their new refreshing drinks at their new bar. Very affordable prices in you are staying to eat out but at the same time save some money . :P
I came here for sushi dinner I absolutely love this place. The restaurant is really large and beautiful. The back of the restaurant has an almost outdoor type seating area that’s very scenic. The sushi here is super fresh and delicious, and very reasonably price. Wine selection is also expensive and each class is only nine dollars. I highly recommend this place for date night or even a quiet dinner by yourself. The staff is also super friendly and helpful.
My favorite local sushi spot! My girlfriend and I have been coming here for about a year now and it never fails to deliver. Generous portions of fresh fish, friendly service, and really affordable prices. I’ve tried quite a few of the local sushi places in Brooklyn and this one has consistently been my favorite.
Ako was such a pleasant and delicious surprise after shopping around in the Williamsburg area. The fish is so fresh and will melt in your mouth! And the serving size is just right. You will also receive some of the best service. I can't wait to go back again. I promise you will not be disappointed.
The food is full with warmth and is delicious. The service is nothing special but there is a very fun flowy vibe in the air !
Food was great, atmosphere was amazing and the customer service was top tier. Thank you for making my mom’s birthday a memorable one.
I very much enjoy the covered outdoor patio in the back! it's perfect for those of us who prefer highly ventilated areas, but is totally weather proof, comfortable, and clean. it feels like an extension of the restaurant, and they have outdoor heaters installed out there during the winter (although they would only be on if people choose to dine in the patio) additionally, the food, service, and atmosphere is great! coming here for the lunch special is always a treat. I always get the "any three rolls". highly recommend.
Ako is such a special little spot. Delectable really. The people here are genuinely kind and welcoming in a way that makes you feel happy right away. The fish is fresh, simply prepared, and really well sourced. Everything we ordered was incredible. The purple sweet potato fries were unique and delicious, perfectly crispy with a matcha mayo that paired so well. The matcha tiramisu to finish was light, not too sweet, and a really nice way to end the meal. It was our first time here, and we came to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. They made the night feel special, and we will definitely be back. Thank you!
Food is delicious. Inside atmosphere is small but mello. Never dined in patio area but seems ok. Staff does the best they can. Nevr had a problem.
Get the sushi reserve and four season. Thank me for the rest of your life. The staff is also super nice and professional always. Been here like 5 times now. Rudy is super friendly !
I had a negative experience involving missing condiment (soy sauce) and delivery, however the restaurant wanted to make it right and they did. So this is an updated review. I ordered chirashi for lunch and it is a good value. I enjoyed that the fish and rice were packed separately, and rather than soy sauce packets they provided it in mini cups so that you don't have to fiddle with opening the packets. While I had one negative experience, I believe that was a one-off and I can tell from my communication with them that they care deeply about their reputation in this neighborhood and have an attentive manager/owner.
Ate here on our Thanksgiving NYC trip. Flew all day from CA so we were starving. Got seated in the back room on the big picnic table. Plenty of room. Ordered an assortment of rolls and sashimi. Delicious. Coming from CA we have high standards for sushi and this place delivered. Service was excellent. Never had an empty water glass or dirty plate. Highly recommend Try the spicy seafood soup. You won’t regret it
Such a great spot! The ambiance is amazing. Plenty of warm lighting, comfortable seating, and heaters above seat to keep everyone comfortable. The service was phenomenal! Quick, attentive, and they went out of their way to accommodate us. The sushi was TO DIE for. We ordered many rolls but the “sushi for 2 deal” is a must. Great way to sample many rolls. We also ordered the Lychee Sangria which was honestly the star of the show. 10/10
Delicious food and crazy convenient location. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for tried and true sushi options. They have happy hour on weekdays incl. Friday from 5-7pm. Got here on a Friday around 6:35pm and had plenty of seating- they have indoor and outdoor patio. It was pretty packed by the time we left around 7:20. Food was amazing. One of the best miso soups I’ve had and the special rolls were delicious: Golden Dragon, Four Seasons, and Ako Wasabi. We were so full but taste palettes wanted more! If you’re looking for a cozy, great services restaurant with the classic sushi options and their takes, this place is great!
This is an adorable Japanese restaurant serving super fresh sashimi and sushi. You can watch them make it from behind the counter and there is a lovely back garden seating area too. The staff were fantastic, so lovely and efficient. I came for a low key birthday meal (4 people) and it was perfect.
The food and the service were both delightful. The waitress was very attentive. The chicken teriyaki was perfectly cooked. The chicken was succulent and flavorful. The salad even had a very addictive dressing. The sweet potato tempura roll was crispy, with the right amount of flavor. Overall, I am quite pleased with this establishment.
Came here for quick bite. Food came out fast and was fresh, delicious and hot. I had edamame, miso soup and eal avocado roll. Very yammy. It was not too crowded on a Monday night. But i was alone and sat at the bar. Sever was very friendly. Atmosphere also was very relaxing. Which made my crazy monday much more calm. I wish i had this type of place in my neighborhood.
We stopped here for lunch with a time crunch - the service was swift, food was delicious, and we made it out in 45min which was amazing. The most beef negimaki I've ever been served. The back area has greenhouse vibes and it was a very nice ambiance. We would love to return and be able to enjoy it without any time constraints. * Edit: We've returned a few more times and it is definitely a favorite in the area. Service is always great!
We gave this place a try and we did not regret it. All the other sushi restaurants in Williamsburgs are either hard to reserve, very expensive, require $50-75 no show fee deposit or closed on Mondays. We reserved for 7:30pm on a Monday night and upon arriving there were plenty of seats. The host asked us if we would like to sit in the back outdoor area and we said yes. It is beautifully decorated in the back, with lights, a mural, but you will be hearing the zapping of mosquitos and getting a few bites! We ordered a tray of sushi to share, some speciality rolls, an udon dish, gyu-don rice dish, and purple yam fried and karage. The appetizers came promptly and they were so good, the chicken was hot and fresh and came with sauce and a dipping salt. The purple yam fries were very interesting and I think it came with a matcha sauce. These two appetizers are really good and a must try. The sushi came and it was the typical rolls, not the best sushi quality but that is okay because it was still good and presentable, and this isn’t a $$$$ type of restaurant. The udon was good and so was the gyu-don beef over rice. We also ordered beers and cocktails which were good. Our party enjoyed our time here, it was quiet, soft, ambient, the food was good, and it is a great place to catch up with friends over a meal.
The best Sushi restaurant in the neighborhood. All the rolls are on point. The fish is always fresh. I highly recommend the the Crunchy Scallop roll. What I also like about Ako. is that all the staff treat you like a regular. They are always making sure that you are happy with the food and service.
Great spot for casual Japanese food with a cute patio. Good for a quick lunch, or a dinner date. This place has been a neighborhood staple, and glad to see they have improved over the years. The staff is still the same friendly people. The food is delicious yet isn’t expensive. They have a good selection of sashimi, sushi, and rice bowls, and noodle bowls.
Ordered for take out through GrubHub, so can't attest to service or atmosphere since we were in and out in less than 10 seconds. We order sashimi platter for 2. Sushi quality was decent, price was little above average. There was a green sauce that came with our order and we have no idea what it was for but my husband and I enjoyed it. This would be a place I would go back to knowing they have decent quality sushi for fair price.
10/10 sushi for a great price. Super authentic sashimi and nigiri, everything is prepared correctly. Tamago is also decent. Their sashimi salad is to die for, we tend to order more traditional dishes but their spider roll takes me back to my childhood in execution and flavor. We love Ako
We came here one rainy Sunday afternoon, thankfully their backyard area is covered with a transparent roof and we were able to hear and see the raindrops, we found it whimsical! Since I have not had a bento box in months, I ordered it to see what is their take on it. I selected salmon teriyaki bento. They first served a veggie salad with ginger dressing followed by miso soup. The bento box came with 4 pieces of California roll, 2 pieces of fried siomai, white rice, and salmon teriyaki on a bed of mixed greens. I thought the serving was generous for $13, and it didn’t compromise the quality nor the taste. On our way out, I told our server that we will come back next weekend. With great customer service and price points, who wouldn’t?!
It’s my daughter’s favorite sushi place. We love the place, the back yard as well as inside. It’s nice...the sushi is really good, I just don’t like ordering from the 3 for a price special because it will be the simple ones that you can get from a just anywhere...overall the dishes and sushi are amazing, the desserts are great, the service is excellent...it’s a really great place
Great place in the ‘burg to grab classic rolls. Ambiance was great. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. Service was quick and sushi was tasty. Good spot that’s not too $$
Ordered here for delivery, we weren’t very impressed unfortunately. The quality of everything was great. But $18 for yaki soba and you half filled the container? $6 for lemonade that is truly 99% ice? And my rolls were pretty pitiful, and I’m not even someone who likes them really stuffed with fish. The portion size is just not justifiable for the price. There are sooo many other great Japanese spots in the area that aren’t quite as stingy with their portions.
Highlights: the fish was delicious and we had a lovely sake. Pain points: the service was slow, each sushi roll came out separately and with a big time gap between plates. Also, the rice was very poorly cooked. It was overcooked with a very grainy texture.
I often use it for lunch. So I decided to order a bento box as usual, but it was only lunch time. So I ordered the pork cutlet. I was very surprised. The tonkatsu was very thin. I felt this thinness was a bit expensive for this price. But the staff was so friendly and nice.
My first time here and it’s like they expect you to know what’s on the menu. The food was okay but didn’t get to enjoy it because it had mushrooms. I even asked what comes with the bento box he said “lo mein , rice , California roll”. I get the bento box it’s full of mushrooms no lo mein. It has the potential of being better but please remember not everyone has been to your establishment before. So if you are going to add mushrooms it should state that in the menu or the server should be knowledgeable.
Ordered takeout from here for probably the 2nd or 3rd time since I live nearby. The food is ok but unfortunately the portion sizes have gotten smaller and smaller. I know sushi is expensive but my $40 of food would have been half the price (or twice the food) somewhere else. Sushi rice was small, sashimi cuts were 1/2, maybe 1/3 of what they should be. I won’t be ordering from here again.
This is my go to sushi spot when in williamsburg. Unfortunately, the owners are not friendly and will openly treat others better than they treat poc. So if you plan on going here and want to be seated quickly and acknowledged bring your yt friends with you lol. I tip everywhere I go but I did not tip even a penny after eating here. The guy that walks around with the man bun is so rude and all they do is walk around staring at certain tables like we’re gonna steal the chopsticks or something. It sucks because their sushi is actually really good, but the service isn’t.
I'm not sure how this place has positive reviews. If I could I would rate this place a Negative ZERO!!!!! I ordered from Uber Eats and I *only received half my order*. The food that I did receive was hard, cold, and lacked flavor. When I called the restaurant about my order the woman on the phone started describing what a hand roll sushi should look like. Then the woman started yelling at me over the phone. Overall, avoid spending money here the sushi and customer service ain't worth it.
