Café Alula Brooklyn Reviews
My new favorite cafe. Lebanese sandwhiches and drinks that are so delicious! I can go on and on about this place, already been twice and LOVE it. Highly highly recommend the Orange Blossom Chai. If you’re in the area, make sure you go!
When I found myself starving with laptop in tow after a meeting in Greenpoint at 4pm on a Monday, I was disappointed that two other cafes on Freeman St had closed their kitchens already! I needed to find a place with a good sandwich and some WiFi asap. I was lucky to stumble across this spot and was saved by their awesome egg sandwich with a Lebanese flair to it. And the place was empty!! This is criminal, it's so good and better than any other option nearby in my humble opinion. I shall return!
Awesome little cafe in greenpoint. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the coffee and food are delicious! Definitely check out this neighborhood gem!
Great coffee and food, we usually come here for brunch from time to time. They've outdoor seating which is nice in the spring to summer to fall.
Best cafe in North Greenpoint. The food is stellar and has plenty of healthy options, the staff is friendly and happy (clearly, it’s a good place to work), and the space is cute and comfortable. Couldn’t recommend this place more highly. It’s where I take everyone who’s visiting.
This super cute and skinny cafe has the tastiest breakfast sandwich and delicious coffee. "Order in the front, Eat in the back" as the sign says. Cute, covered garden in the back with a nice summer breeze. Or get your food to go. Great place to chat with friends or chill with a book or laptop. Happy that I stumbled upon this place. Enjoy
The food was delicious, and the coffee tasted amazing as well. It was my first time coming here, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ingredients and the good vibes. I stayed to eat in the outdoor patio area. The service was excellent, and I enjoyed my breakfast. It's a very cute place, and I highly recommend it!
Cute local cafe with a very comfortable & chill vibe. I’ve walked past it probably 25+ times after recently moving to the neighborhood and decided to give it a try today. The person that greeted me and took my order was so friendly and happy to give recommendations. She steered me in the right direction with the falafel bowl. It was so tasty. Excited to try more!
So many great options! Definitely have to come back to try other items especially the za'atar croissant. The sandwiches can also be switched to bowls. We had the shiitake pesto sandwich, cauliflower shawarma, baked falafel salad and a side of fava beans. Favorite was the sandwich (crispy texture and large portion) and cauliflower (nice thick layer of tahini at the bottom). The falafel is baked and somehow tasted uncooked. The hummus in the salad was very creamy. Also tried the halva latte which didn't have strong tahini flavor. The backyard space is super lovely and quiet great for reading, working or catching up with friends. It's self service in which one orders up front. The guy made a couple mistakes of our orders but I still enjoyed the food and look forward to coming back.
Amazing sandwiches! The vegetarian “shawarma” sandwiches are tasty and flavorful, but the eggplant breakfast is my favorite - the closest I’ve had to a sabich sandwich since my last trip to Tel Aviv! Lots of vegan options on the menu. The cafe itself is also a nice place to hang out, with outdoor seating out front and in the backyard. Can’t wait to try the salads and bowls.
Refined and tasty small plates in Greenpoint with a Mediterranean angle. Speedy service, tasty acidic coffee, and a lovely setting. The only real downside is that the portion sizes are relatively small given the prices.
Stopped by here while in the neighborhood. I ordered a delicious orange blossom hot chai with a tuna and gigante bean salad. The salad was okay. It was lacking in flavor. My friend ordered the falafel salad. I liked it better than my salad. I would definitely come back to try other items on the extensive menu.
The vegan options are really great! I had one of the salads for lunch one day and the cauliflower shawarma and rose lemonade the next. The salad was delicious but definitely light. The cauliflower shawarma was sooo good!! I think next time I would get it with more picketed onions. The rose lemonade was not sweet like your traditional lemonade, more like an unsweetened tea but still delicious!
Service Order taker at window appeared to be having a miserable day. Mind you, it was very cold outside so perhaps that was contributing to it? She was very short (kept asking anything else after everything single thing we said) and clearly annoyed with customers. We ordered two beverages, a bowl and a sandwich which took them 30 minutes. I had to get up and ask about our order as several other customers after us had already been served and left. After asking, they promptly brought out our food. Food/beverages I ordered a dirty chai. Is was decent. It mostly tasted like a latte with A LOT of cinnamon (see pic). My partner ordered their pink lemonade. It tasted like strong rose water with a ton of lemon. He ordered the sandwich and said it was very good. We noticed most people were ordering their sandwiches so this is probably your best bet if you’re going to try it out. I ordered the coconut curry bowl and this was probably the biggest disappointment of the whole visit. It had nearly no flavor. The rice and veggies were all very well prepared. It was just unfortunately extremely bland.
Breakfast burrito was actually just a weird, hot lettuce wrap disaster. Chicken was extremely dry. Nice little back outdoor space but sadly would roll dice on the food.
I live in the neighborhood & I’ve been there multiple times… the food is great hands down…. But the staff is just ridiculously unfriendly & rude!!!! The girl who takes orders cut me off the line just because I tried to order from the bar inside and the other guy walked up to the window from the street but we were there first and when we got there there was no one! I wonder if that’s the rule as she said why they don’t they take orders from the window during a winter time! Not to mention I was there with my kids!!!! And that’s not the first time her being so rude with the orders & everyone in general I witnessed it a few times … it’s also serve your own drinks place… if you are already bringing the food from the kitchen why do I have to carry my own drinks from the bar!?
Got the egg & cheese and it was very bland. I do not recommend it. The avocado was slapped on the bread, no salt or pepper seasoning, no flavor at all. And the bread was burnt. I rarely post negative reviews but paying $50 for a breakfast like this is hard to justify. Please do better. Suggestions to add flavor: salt & pepper, an aioli or spicy sauce, onions or spinach, and for the cheese consider a sharper cheddar, Swiss, or cream cheese. On the positive side - my husband got the burrito and he enjoyed it, and the matcha was solid.
