David's Brisket House Brooklyn Reviews
Presiding over a bustling stretch of Nostrand Ave, David's old-school sign promises something good. Sure enough, the pastrami (on rye) was tender, juicy, and well-spiced. Pickles on point. Friendly staff helped a steady stream of locals. It may not have the kitsch of Katz's, or the following of 2nd Ave Deli, but David's deserves a place among the sacred pastrami delis of NYC. Delicious, quick, reasonable, timeless.
Excellent food and very friendly service. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable.
Wow after watching the YouTube videos about the place I can see why it was hyped up. The meat was very succulent and fatty and tasted good on the hero bread they put a little too much mayo but still tasted good they gave like this gravy juice thing for the seasoning. I’m probably the weirdest person to have a brisket sandwich for breakfast but still the foods amazing and the hype truly lives up to it only thing that hurts me is the price 😭
Was delicious. Wish I would have gotten a larger sandwich with slaw and perhaps two meats. Will be back again to dabble on other menu items
Everything was good right to the crunchy pickles. 100% Halal is a plus, affordable and a cozy atmosphere.
It gave me a feeling and I had to stop in. I didnt look at the reviews. I had the brisket and it was as good or better than any brisket sandwich I've had before. I'd propose to that brisket and hope our love stays the same forever. Me, you, gravy, pickles... why would we need anything else ever.
This place is no frills. Delicious pastrami, made exactly how you ask! I didn’t know until reading the reviews just now that it’s all halal, which is a plus! I really enjoyed watching this young 10-12 year old boy work behind the counter. When we first got there, he was occupying a table and watching on his phone. He was summoned by the chef in the back and he jumped into action taking and expediting orders. Love to see it.
I really enjoyed this place!! The meat was honestly really amazing and it’s one of the best cuts I’ve had. Not only was the food amazing but the workers and atmosphere was very chill too. If your looking for good pastrami sandwiches I definitely suggest going to David’s brisket house!!!
Small space, but Great food. The soups are delicious. Since I'm trying to give up meat, the soups were the Best! All others 😍 loved the pastrami and Ruben sandwiches. I will drive 40 minutes in NYC rush hour traffic and park, then walk 4 blocks away for this food!
OMG what a sandwich. It was amazing I need more. Had the corn beef sandwich now will go for the pastrami . I didn't expect this its soooooooooooo good.
I think everyone already knows how good their pastrami sandwich is. The sandwich is neck and neck with katz. I honestly prefer David's. I just wish they had sour dough bread. Overall, it is definitely worth the money and trip.
Absolutely some of the best Pastrami and Corn beef sandwiches in the city. I've been eating them since I was little. No drop off. Excellent sandwiches.
This place is as quiet as a library. All you can hear is the refrigerator & the meat slicer. And that’s important because when you taste this pastrami Ruben, there will be nothing distracting from that lightly toasted rye bread. The pastrami melts in your mouth. Slap a lil mustard on there, cold from the fridge. I left my body for a minute while eating this. I’ll be back soon & often. Thanks David’s Brisket House.
Not enough space to sit. The brisket is fantastic. Best get the medium or large. The coleslaw is pretty good too.
It is hard to describe how delicious the pastrami sandwiches are at this place. With only mustard and mayo (on Rye), the pastrami flavors were amazing. Don't let the size of the restaurant decive you. The food here is outstanding. We had beef brisket, chicken, and pastrami sandwiches. The beef brisket was super filling. The chicken sandwich was good. The fries taste homemade (pretty large for large fries). The young man who took our order was a friendly guy. He was quick and had a nice overall attitude.
Went there for lunch today. Totally enjoyed this huge Cheeseburger Brisket. For roughly $13 you get humongous burger which was challenging to eat but each bite was thoroughly savory, you also get generous quantity of fries. Best of all got verbal assurance from staff about Halal status and they also had a halal sign on the door.
Awesome gem of a restaurant. We happened to be staying nearby and visited on recommendation of our host. Didn't look like much from outside, but so glad we tried it. Great service and awesome people running the place. Special shout out to the sweetest hard-working little boy who took orders and checked on customers. We always visit Katz's whenever we're visiting NYC, but David's Brisket is our new favorite pastrami place. It was so good we ate there twice and took some home.
Amazing and sweet staff, excellent tasting food. The flavor of the meats were excellent and will definitely come back. This is a classic hole in the wall where the food was great and worth the visit.
Really nice spot for halal smoked meats. I came by here early evening on a weekday and thankfully there wasn't much of a wait. I ordered the pastrami on rye and the corned beef on rye. The pastrami was good but the corned beef on rye was the best corned beef I've ever had. It was melt in your mouth delicious and just a fantastic treat. If you're looking for an excellent sandwich with lots of juicy meat and authentic flavors -- go for the corned beef on rye with mustard. It's become one of my favorite sandwich places. The staff was very nice and kind as well. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
Needs central ac in the summer. I need to add more. I’m sure the spot’s people KNOW their food is good. I had the corned beef & brisket sandwich w caramelized onions, and when you pour that broth they give on the side 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤤 it becomes SOOOOOOOO DELICIOUS!!! I’m glad I learned about this place. Def coming back
Not much to say other than that they make an amazing pastrami sandwich. The meat is tender, subtly spiced and just fatty enough to melt in your mouth. The rich pastrami is adorned nicely with a light spread of mayo and mustard and some pickle spears are on the side. A near perfect sandwich, and the only reason it isn’t perfect is because I ordered a small instead of a regular—don’t make the same mistake I did! Workers there were polite and friendly.
Got off at Bedford Nostrand G stop. Walked around the area for 5 hours. Grabbed take out lunch from David's Brisket House. Got a small brisket sandwich with au jus, mustard, onion, tomato on rye. Split with my wife. Incredible! My favorite Brooklyn NYC deli. It's #halal . Tip: they'll give you a free sample of the 3 meats.
Tried their burger, Pastrami, Mac salad and potato salad: Pastrami was amazing, flavorful and juicy Burger was average, patty was big, but dry, and meat flavor was not delightful. Potato salad was average Mac salad was good All in all, I prefer their Pastrami over Katz. Looking forward to try their corned beef and brisket
The pastrami Sandwich has a good flavor just right. Apart of other menu selections Breakfast to pastrami, corned beef or mixed meats sandwiches. You can choose small to large proportions for your budget. The owner and staff are friendly, Atmosphere Is good. If you don’t want to wait on a long line and want to get a good taste of theses sandwiches David’s Brisket House is your place.
My family and i visited this halal spot yesterday. We specifically made our weekend day trip to visit david’s brisket house. The place is homey, nothing fancy. Just a simple hole in the wall halal spot. they accept cards and they have rest room- just ask for the keys. We had all medium size, il rate what we ordered 1-10 Pastrami 9/10 its just perfectly seasoned, i appreciate that they dont saturate the sandwhich with mustard, i allows customers to customize based on their preference, the rye bread was so soft and tasted fresh, my husband thought that iy could have been more fatty. Corned beef 9/10 for my husband he thought it could have been more fatty and he really enjoyed it. But i personally would rate it 7.5/10 the meat was already perfect for me, i dont want it too fatty. Beef brisket 10/10- we had this to go and ate this morning. Boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy this is one of our favorite . The gravy was perfectly seasoned. It was literally just the bread and the brisket and gravy on the side. I think this is definitely the highlight of the store. Duuuuhhhhhh no wonder they are named “david’s brisket house” lol but i would go for LARGE brisket next time we visit. Potato salad 9/10- we really enjoyed it, i appreciate that its not too sweet. It was perfectly seasoned Mac salad 9/10 same with potato salad according to my husband, but i prefer the potato salad. cheese steak 10/10 we also had this to go and it was our breakfast, Best cheese steak we ever had!!!!! The hero bread was also fresh, crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy hero bread on the inside. Just imagine if we ate it fresh same day. The meat was very generous and it was so delicious. My daughter had the chicken tenders with fries and she rated it 6/10. So when we come back, im definitely going for the brisket again and again and again lol
Excellent sandwiches, totally worth the walk till there. We've tried the brisket and corned beef and they were so tasty. The place is pretty small but they have some tables available, prices are fine and I totally recommend it.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. The setting was comfortable and well maintained, creating a pleasant environment for a meal. Every detail, from presentation to service, reflected high standards. The staff was welcoming and efficient, and the overall organization was impressive. Everything exceeded expectations and made for a truly memorable visit.
Great quick delicious local lunch spot. Has been an institution in this neighborhood for over 60 years and is slinging out award-winning brisket, pastrami and corned beef sandwiches along with an array of other Jewish deli specialties Absolute must try Spot for lunch if you’re in this area. Quick and easy love the old-school deli feel I’m a huge fan of that.
Check out my I G lawyer.traveler.dreamer for more footage of our experience. David’s Brisket House in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, is a real piece of NYC food history. The shop has been around for more than 50 years and still serves some of the best sandwiches in the city. We ordered the famous “3 The Hard Way” to try all three classics: pastrami, brisket, and corned beef. Each one was stacked high on rye, and the flavors were incredible. The brisket had that perfect smoky edge, and the pastrami was full of spice and tenderness. You can feel the legacy in every bite. It’s casual, local, and full of character. If you want an authentic deli experience in Brooklyn, this is the spot to visit.
David’s Brisket House is a Brooklyn gem known for their old school stacked deli sandwiches that are as hearty as they are satisfying. Their must order classics, pastrami, reuben, and of course their brisket, are tender and flavorful while melting in your mouth with every bite. The pastrami delivers a perfect smoky savory punch while the Reuben balances tangy sauerkraut with melted cheese and that slow-cooked brisket is screaming juicy. Service is friendly and efficient which makes you feel right at home while keeping things moving smoothly. With their generous portions, fair prices, and a no-frills atmosphere, David’s Brisket House keeps the focus on what a true New York City deli has to offer.
100% HALAL, and absolutely worth trying! I ordered both the corned beef and the pastrami sandwich. The corned beef was tasty, but the pastrami was truly AMAZING. It was bursting with flavor, had the perfect amount of fat, and was so tender. Fries were solid, too! I’ll definitely be back soon.
Visited on a Friday night in the winter, was not very busy. The food however was amazing. Had the pastrami sandwich, Reuben and brisket cheesesteak. Really happy tried in that order but have to say for me the Reuben stole the show with the condiments and cheese as well as toasted bread. The cheesesteak was a little spicier but also a bit salty , still very good but had we started with that could not have finished it all. Will be back!
David’s Brisket House in Brooklyn is one of those timeless New York gems where tradition, flavor, and community meet over a single perfect bite. From the outside, it looks like the kind of old-school spot you could easily walk past until the smell of smoked meat pulls you in. Inside, the atmosphere is simple and unpretentious, but what comes out of that kitchen is pure craftsmanship. The brisket is tender, smoky, and rich, with just the right amount of fat melting into each slice. Piled high on rye bread and served with a side of nostalgia, every sandwich feels like a piece of New York history. What sets David’s Brisket House apart is the legacy behind it a Muslim-owned Jewish deli that has been perfecting this art for decades. It’s a story of cultures blending beautifully through food, and you can taste that harmony in every bite. Whether you go for the classic pastrami, corned beef, or the signature brisket, the flavors are deep, balanced, and completely addictive. Each sandwich comes stacked to perfection, juicy and smoky, with that old-school deli charm you can’t fake. There’s something special about how the team treats you too no rush, no gimmicks, just genuine hospitality. It’s the kind of place where regulars are greeted by name and newcomers are made to feel like family. Every visit feels familiar, comforting, and real. In a city overflowing with trendy new restaurants, David’s Brisket House remains a true New York institution humble, soulful, and unforgettable. If you’re looking for the best brisket sandwich in NYC, this is it. A taste of Brooklyn’s history, served warm between two slices of rye.
Such a great lunch at this local institution with a storied history dating back to the 1960’s. I went with their lunch combo, which came with a nice, warming Moroccan soup that really hit the spot. The brisket was super tender and outstanding, especially with that flavorful jus. Exactly what you want from a place like this. I’ll definitely be back next time to try the pastrami.
Had the lunch combo of pastrami on rye, knish, and Moroccan Harira. Soup was better than I expected (took a few spoonfuls before realizing I forgot the picture)…knish was flavorful but a bit difficult to eat since it was cut in half horizontally and only had a fork to attempt to cut it into bite size pieces. Sandwich was good, with a good portion of pastrami. Bathroom was out of order so couldn’t review that. They can seat a good amount of customers, with booth style seating, and the location looked clean. Customer service was great, with a staff member bringing the food over to the table (just didn’t expect that).
This is hands down the best brisket we have tried in Brooklyn! We had a fantastic experience and will definitely be coming back. One of the best parts was that there were no lines and no crowds, making for a very relaxed meal. The staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Also, a special shoutout to the gravy they serve on the side—it is absolutely delicious and brings the whole meal together. If you're looking for top-tier brisket without the typical NYC wait times, this is the spot!
Meat quality, taste and texture is grade A! Not many halal spots serve these old school deli sandwiches. I would ask for less mustard if you’re eating with pickles so it’s not too over-bearing :)
I don't usually comment on food, but this time I made an exception. The pastrami, corned beef, and brisket are delicious. The tender texture is perfect. I bought a three-meat sandwich and it was the best decision I've ever made. I hope they continue like this, and I'll be back very soon. Thank you, thank you very much. I feel great having tried such a delicious sandwich. The price is reasonable, better than Katz's

This is a decent spot with good food and reasonably fast service in a no-frills environment. Brisket Sandwich 5/5 - The meat was just right, and it was served with a side of jus and excellent pickles. Cheese Fries 3/5 - While the fries themselves were very crispy and had a great texture, I was dismayed to see them topped with American cheese. Service 3/5 - Service was polite and to the point without making me feel rushed. They did get my order wrong (I ordered pastrami and they brought me plain brisket), but it tasted great so I didn’t send it back. Speed 5/5 - Having waited in line for over an hour to share a table with strangers at Carnage Deli during its heyday, I was happy to find a shop near my apartment that could have me a great sandwich in less than 5 minutes. Atmosphere - Don’t come here for atmosphere. That’s not what this place is about. This place is about devouring piles of meat.
One of the best hamburger in New York City. The brisket is a mighty contender too. Absolutely love this place, we started ordering on Uber eats a month ago or so, and finally went to dine in and the place is a humble lil establishment that been here since the 70s. My girl and I are burger enthusiasts and get burgers all over the city, and world. This burger we are evangelists for. Highest praise for David’s brisket house.
The store is very small and cramped—but when it’s not busy—it’s cozy and feels nostalgic. I suggested to the staff that they should change their mustard to something in-house, as opposed to the packets. The dill pickles are great, but I’ve been served some defective ones. They should have more quality control. They serve flavorful pastrami and corned beef. Brisket and turkey were decent. Staff is friendly. Easily reserved itself on my 50
We stayed in NYC for 10 days and coming from London I always heard about the famous new york deli sandwich scene. So when I heard that brooklyn had a halal spot we had to go! The sandwiches did not dissapoint! We ordered the usual brisket, Ruben and "New York" Cheese Steak as the server very confidently corrected me when I called it a philli Cheesesteak 🤣 the beef broth they give with the sandwich is next level! Loved it!
I've been comin here since David himself was behind the Counter (my blocc Pacific & Nostrand) & the have the best meats (right up there with Katz). But he have new ethnicity cookin & prepping, they seem to mince the meat, instead of thicc slabs of meat
The Brooklyn Cheesesteak was flavorful but the portion was a let down. I expected the $20 sandwich to have at least as much meat as the regular $16 brisket sandwich. 4 stars for good quality and friendly service
Truly excellent sandwiches in a basic, utilitarian space that harks back to the neighborhood's pre-gentrification vibe. You need to decide for yourself whether it worth $23+ (including tax/ small tip and cc fees) for a sandwich that weighs in just a shade under 5 ounces including bread. It's a basic counter service place with a few chairs that produces a modest selection of truly amazing sandwiches. They prepare the brisket cut of beef in several ways, that they call Pastrami (smoked), Corned Beef (cured and poached), and Brisket that I think is simply roasted. The philosophy is find something that you do exceedingly well, and focus on that. They are worth a trip across town, it really is that good. Why not 5 stars? The service is friendly, and prompt, but there isn't much service, and the atmosphere is clean, but kind of "dumpy", all of which works for that stretch of Nostrand, but doesn't really reach 5-stars in my book.
Halal brisket spot in brooklyn. Prices are basically the same as Katz deli, so on the PRICEY side. Pastrami was good, fries & pickles were good too. Nice old school diner vibe and service was great. Lunch prices seem really good. They do have 3 sizes of pastrami sandwiches so you don't really have to spend almost $30 for a sandwich but an authentic pastrami sandwich would be the XL.
Very decent brisket sandwich, not too salty nor wet and plenty of meat flavor. Quick and efficient service. Could've had more meat considering the price.

Overpriced for the quality of food. The rye bread tasted like sourdough. Service was good. But the taste was mediocre

I see that it's new ownership was very rude seems like he doesn't like his job.. I need to change that person at the counter and have somebody more helpful to the customers.. like I said extremely rude the food also has a little bit of a change I've been there a customer a long time
I drive a long way just for these sandwiches because they’re great, but it’s frustrating when I get home and realize there aren’t enough condiments. Each large hero comes with one mayo and one mustard, but for sandwiches this big, that’s not really enough. I ordered two large heroes for about $30, and only got two mayo and two mustard total. For sandwiches this size, you really need more than that.
Fell for the hype. Don’t get me wrong, the food is good, but not the best in the city, not even close. The pastrami was the opposite of melt in your mouth. A less than discernible palate can’t tell the difference between the pastrami and corned beef. I wanted to love it but came away feeling meh.
I made the mistake of not reading the reviews. I had the brisket Philly and fries, it's just ok. Not seasoned at ALL!! I will go back for the pastrami and corn beef.. I want to be amazed like all the other people.
I like this place a lot but this is some “we’ll charge as much as we can get away with” mentality. Look I get the pastrami being 39 dollars a pound, what I don’t understand is the tiniest amount of soup being 8 dollars. Or fries being 7.
Quaint. Service is affable. Allows you to sample, which led to our purchase of the both supple slices of Corned Beef and Pastrami. Although the Brisket was equally tender, it had NO FLAVOR, NONE, zilch, nada. The Corned Beef had a Bouilloned stock flavor, which was delish. The Pastrami was good. Both sandwiches 1. Needed to be sliced thicker, although we loved the slivers to melt in our mouths but they both fell apart, especially the Pastrami and 2. Needed stronger bread. We got the Medium sized on Wheat and Rye. Neither sandwiches held up, which is highly frustrating, especially when you are On-the-Go.
Was expecting more…. We visited close to closing time, and unfortunately some menu items were already unavailable. The pastrami was decent, but the brisket was very dry and almost gray in color, which was disappointing. Also, paying about $105 for two sandwiches with sides (fries and pickles) felt quite expensive for the overall experience. Additionally, the ventilation could be improved, as there was a noticeable smell inside. That’s why we were expecting more.
Terrible. It's like whoever is making sandwiches is from a planet that has no concept of a sandwich. I a grilled chicken with peppers and onions on rye. Not one condiment, not one seasoning. The ch…

Truly a hole in the wall brisket spot in the middle of a very diverse part of Brooklyn. No frills. Fine brisket and pastrami, though when you are so close to Katz…. It is hard to compete. Prices are high for what it is. Generic bread with slow cooked meats. The place was loud with other customers when I was there, so hard to truly tune in to my meal. Quick service. Menu had more options than just the brisket and corned beef, too.
We ordered pastrami sandwiches and were surprised by how little meat they had, about 3–4 slices each, which was noticeably less than what’s shown in photos others have posted. The knish and soup were unavailable that day as well. Our totals came to around $30 for a fries + salad lunch combo, which didn’t feel like a good value. Disappointing experience overall, though it’s possible this was an off day.
Came after seeing a tic tok video…… I gave a a 4 and my family gave a 2…. The Russian dressing was not good at all. The good thing is that they have a bathroom that was pretty clean ….. oh I was hoping that they had an area to establish the pray but nah, wishful thinking. I think I’ll stick with Katz over David’s going forward . Good thing we didn’t take the train because we would’ve been angry
– David’s Brisket House? More Like David’s Disappointment Deli. Let me save you the trouble: if you’re craving brisket, go literally anywhere else. Or chew on your shoe — it’ll be more flavorful and probably more tender. I walked into David’s Brisket House with high hopes and left with trust issues. The name alone suggests meat mastery. Instead, I got served a sad, gray slab of beef that looked like it lost the will to live sometime last week. The sandwich was a total catastrophe. Dry, flavorless brisket buried between two slices of bread that tasted like they were left out during the Carter administration. No seasoning, no soul — just regret. Service was… there. Technically. But it felt more like we were intruding on someone’s break than dining at a restaurant. Eye rolls included, free of charge. Atmosphere? Think DMV meets middle school cafeteria. Lighting: harsh. Tables: sticky. Music: nonexistent, unless you count the humming of a nearby fridge that sounded like it was about to explode. In conclusion: if you’re looking for a culinary thrill, this ain’t it. If you’re looking for a lesson in disappointment? David’s Brisket House delivers.
Bland, tasteless, dry sandwiches. Ordered the pastrami, brisket and cornbeef. Corn beef tasted like cat food (how i imagine it would taste), pastrami and brisket was totally bland. Idk how this place has 4.5 it should have 2.5 stars MAX. I literally couldn't even finish half of the food I ordered.
