Kashkar Cafe Brooklyn Reviews
The restaurant was amazing, and the food was truly traditional. Every dish had an authentic flavor, and everything was fantastic. The staff were incredibly friendly, which made the experience even better. I absolutely loved the place and the food!
Very good service! Delicious food! We had a great time with my family! Thank you!
I got the fried hand made noddles and lamb- it was delicious! The lamb was super tender, NOT chewy, and great flavor unlike anything I’ve ever tried. Highly recommend. We got the shak shak for dessert which is kind of like rice crispy treats!
For anyone who has ever been disappointed by boardwalk food, this place is your answer. Super quick walk from Brighton Beach and not too far from Coney Island for a quick way to thank yourself that you have other options and that you can be a foodie even when you’re supposed to be eating a hot dog or something. You must try the noodles with lamb (known as layman) but also do not skip out on the carrot salad or the dumplings. Uzbeki cuisine is so unique and a cross-section of so many types of foods from other countries, that you can’t be disappointed. I️ love this place and don’t might the occasional wait on popular beach weekends.
Ate at one of the few Uyghur restaurants in NYC with friends last night in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. Think of it as a hybrid between Uzbeki and Chinese, but 100% halal. Service was fantastic. Got free street parking right there immediately. Total cost $135 including tax and tip. Note: they don't write down that there is a service charge included in the total or that there's a cash discount; I had to ask. It was very different from what we ate in Providence last week at a Uyghur restaurant. Not pictured: pitcher of compote.
we came in late on friday and ordered gusht non, gyuro lagman, manti, herring, bread, kebabs, and cabbage. everything was delicious! the staff were welcoming, the food was fresh, and we enjoyed every minute. absolutely a must-visit.
A place to visit with the family. Excellent food and superior service. I highly recommend. Reasonable prices and the experience is very satisfactory. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable about hospitality and management!
The food was delicious and although a little bit away from the boardwalk definitely worth the walk. I would definitely recommend coming here and getting loads of appetizers.
Delicious!! Came here after a Cyclones games. The kebabs, dumplings, pickled herring, lagman and bread with meat inside were all big winners! Can’t wait to come back
I ordered takeout after having this place saved for years. I knew the meal was a W as soon as I got in the car and I could smell it. I ordered eggplant salad, manty/dumplings, and a noodle dish. Food was incredible and I can’t wait to order again
When you hear best cheap eats you think to yourself it’s cheap and good. No, Kashkar beats the stereotype. It’s the best meats AND it’s cheap. The fried manti, samsa and lamb ribs are to die for. You must absolutely try them if you come here
Came here with my Kazakh friend, very good food.
This cafe serves authentic Uygur Lagman, a delicious dish made with fresh, hand-pulled noodles and savory halal meat soup. The place is tiny and can get crowded quickly. However, the servers do their best to accommodate everyone. To compliment the dish, order a pot of green tea (they only use loose leaf tea) at the beginning of meal, so that by the time you are done with the soup, the tea will be ready for consumption (about 15-20 minutes of steeping). Bon appetite.
Family run business providing superb Uygur food. Everything is super fresh and delicious. The small and humble restaurant fills up quickly for dinner so make sure you come on time! Service can be slow because every dish is made with love by a husband and wife duo in their small kitchen. One of my favorite places in Brighton for a delicious and cozy meal.
Terrific food in a very local cafe that serves Uighur or Uzbek cuisine, depending on the diner's frame of reference. Having been in Kashgar, Xinjiang in 2019, we can guarantee that the lamb dumplings, many breads, thick wheat noodles and tart salads are authentic. The kebabs of lamb, chicken or beef are wonderful: fresh grilled, buttery, very tender cuts if meat with subtle Uighur spices. Nice tiny outdoor dining deck wrapped in fake grape clusters and fabric grape leaves. Big shareable portions, don't miss it.
Extremely flavorful food; I had the pintan and the khushang and both were full of umami, maybe the most savory and satisfying soup I’ve ever had (in a good way). Would definitely recommend checking out if you’re in the area, I’ve heard the shashlik is good but they were sold out when I went. Next time!
I would give 10 stars if this would have been possible. Unbelievable delicious food, super friendly service, very nice people and atmosphere. Recommend everyone who wants to check out Brighton Beach to stop here and get this unbelievable experience. Thank you so much!
I came on a weekday night for dinner. The food was delicious and flavorful. I enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. My favorite was the tsomyan. The fried dough reminds me of flat, wide noodles in a square shape and pairs well with the lamb and veggies. The fried manti and kebabs were bigger than I thought. They were savory and cooked perfectly. I’ve never tried Uyghur cuisine before but I will definitely be returning.
This place serves Halal food only. They don't sell and don't allow to bring alcoholic beverages with you (I don't consume such drinks, just witnessed with other customers). Everything is incredibly delicious 😋 They make delicious lagman, plov, manty, samsa, shashlyk. they don't sell alcohol. It's a small restaurant, but very cozy. Has outside seating area. They are usually crowded whenever I come. Staff is friendly. I come here whenever I'm in the area. Recommend this place if you are looking for halal uzbek/uygur cuisine.
Yummy Uyghur foods! First time trying the cuisine and thoroughly impressed. Came because of a school assignment but would try again on my own time. Hot steamy tea and soupy & crispy mantis (dumplings). The food does take a while to come out but the kitchen wasn’t run by a team of people so it’s understandable.
This was my first time trying Uyghurs food, it was absolutely Delicious 10/10. The food was full of flavor, everything freshly made so take a little time, great service and cozy place. The painting and cultural decor on the wall gives the place a really nice vibe. Keep in mind, the portion is little small, and everything you have to pay for. Even water that’s the only down side. I would highly suggest this place to anyone. Loved it!! 💖💖👍👍
Loved the restaurant! We tried the fried noodles (bosu lagman), and chuchvara soup, both of which were amazing! We also got the steamed manty as an appetizer, which was really good and the meat was flavourful. And then to finish off we tried the lamb rib skewers, which although tasted and smelled great, was grilled with too much oil for the fatty cut of meat it was. All in all, a wonderful experience with polite and helpful waitstaff in a restaurant with a cozy interior and some traditional Uzbek art and textiles on the walls. We will definitely be returning!
Wow. I wasn’t expecting such good food at this hole in the wall restaurant. They have maybe six tables and their kitchen is smaller than mine but boy can they cook good food. It’s best to go with a larger party so you can order a lot of dishes and share. Be adventurous! Try Uyghur food here !
At my third and most recent visit to Kashkar, the uniqueness and incredible flavor of the Turkic & Uighyer cuisine has blown me away again. The immense and diverse flavors that quite literally explode in your mouth with each bite is a fun and enjoyable experience. The hosts were welcoming, for our Muslim folks the food is halal and there is also a small prayer space in the basement that they kindly allowed us to use, and the service was fast on a busy Saturday! Pictured here you'll see: 1. Manty - dumplings that are definitely the BEST dish on the menu, steamed with lamb to perfection 2. Fried dumplings - incredibly yummy and filling 3. Logman noodles - fried pasta with lamb (only fried noodles on menu) that were really flavorful 4. Samsa - a baked good filled with lamb and onion.
This place is a real gem. Located down in Brighton Beach, it’s a small but effective restaurant. Super authentic Uyghur and Uzbeki food. The flavors were incredible and the prices were fair. The service was classically emotionless-but-efficient, as are many spots in the area. We got a lamb kebab (not pictured), some lagman noodles with lamb, and a meat pie. We washed it down with compote—perfect on a hot day. Definitely would come back to try more foods from the extensive menu.
It was one of the most delicious meal during our stay in New-York, even one of the year. After a day at Coney Island, on November 13, 2024, a meal to remember. Uighur gastronomy is at the crossroads of different cultures. Sublime discovery, thank you.
Food here is always excellent, and I have known and respected the owners for the past 17 years. Unfortunately, a new waitress has been very rude. She brought my food and spilled it, used curses, and even had a conflict with two other customers in front of me. I have great respect for the owners and the restaurant, but this waitress is making the experience unpleasant.
Deliciou😋😋😋 First time I tried Tatar restaurant and I liked all the foods that I have ordered. I started with Mantı, then Çiğ Borek and last kebap. Service was very quick and did not wait to bring all foods at the same time. My orders come one by one, hot and fresh. It is small but cousy place.
This place feels intimate, and you get the feeling that the customers who sit at the tables are carefully assessing your presence as an outsider. The older people who are native to the Kashkar culture are very wise and traditional people. They drink from porcelain tea pots and speak comfortably at their tables with other members of their group. Their bathroom is kind of in need of some repair, but overall the place is welcoming and warm. The food is incredible tasting, well seasoned and well cooked. My only small complaint is that the food amount vs. price ratio is not very well balanced. You’d expect a larger portion for some of the food plates but that’s ok, because it’s not a buffet and more of a cultural gem to behold and savor. Feels very authentic, a bit humbled but very accommodating and friendly service.
This was our first time trying Uyghur food and we were so impressed. This seems like a very cozy and homey spot. The lamb noodles were the perfect lunch. We also got the compote and drank the whole pitcher it was so delicious. The staff didn’t quite understand what we wanted but there were enough folks inside to translate and their service was fantastic. Bring your patience and an appetite.
There are a few amazing uyghur restaurants in New York City, and this is definitely the best one I've tried in Brooklyn. The food is just so damn flavorful; we came with high expectations off a recommendation, but they blew us away. Very friendly staff and a good family vibe all around. Can't recommend them enough. I don't remember some of the menu item names, but you can just show them the picture below and ask for it. You won't be disappointed.
Think Chinese restaurant mixed with Russian food - when you eat here. Uzbekistan was once part of the Soviet Union & right next to Kashgar, which is inside China - the food here is from Kashgar region of China. The place is very small but very welcoming. The food is authentic and homemade. The Kababs are cooked authentically over charcoal and they were delicious! The Beef soup was also very good! They have photos of each item on their menu!
The greatest restaurant in New York. I have been blogging for years. I rest my reputation on this one place. The fried lagman (stir fried pulled noodles) is hands down the best noodle dish I have ever had. Also it’s important to order the lamb ribs and veal, I promise you that you would not have had such great flavours like this in New York coming off a BBQ. This place is unreal.
This family-owned restaurant is a true gem! My family and I have been coming here for years, and we always feel so welcomed. The food is consistently delicious. I always order the Lagman soup noodles, manti, polov, fried noodles, and lamb kababs. The kababs are incredibly juicy and authentic, and the noodles are simply divine. Everything is fantastic, and don't forget to try their homemade compote! If you're looking for authentic Uyghur cuisine, this is the place to be.
Had their classic Laghman with broth and Shashlik. Laghman was pretty good. Noodles it could be better. But overall still good. Shashlik meat was unusually soft. I guess they smash it before cooking. Tasted pretty nice. Serving Lady was was pretty kind but can be more attentive to tables.
Insane. The lamb dumplings are the most fusion-ist food I've had in my life. The inside is Lebanese but the dumpling part is east Asian and the sour cream dip is eastern European. Crazy crazy good. Omg LOVE
First time trying Uyghur food and it was amazing. It had the taste of other central asian cuisines, with its unique ideas, like pepper and pak choi in soup. The kebab was insanely good and juicy. Also the tea was poured into bowls, which felt nostalgic. The atmosphere was lovely with traditional music and decorations.
Guys, If you are looking for really special delicious food made with love, come to this place. Small but unique place to taste special food from midle Asia. Very nice and polite service. From the first moment you feel like the special guest. That's all. Any additional words are unnecessary...
This place is SO good!!! My friends and I wanted to try Uyghur cuisine during a trip to Brighton Beach, and Kashkar did not disappoint. The restaurant is peaceful and charming, and our server was welcoming and delightful. There is a lot of choices on the menu, and all our dishes were delicious. Our favorites were the jujava dumplings, bosu laghman, and polo.
We have been meaning to try Uyghur food for a while. Looks like Brooklyn has a bunch of restaurants. Kashkar is a cute place. Compact, but has some panache. We added the Bosu Laghman after checking with the person attending and lamb soup. Both were quite good. The pulled noodles, being what they are, may feel a bit chewy, but we realize that is the idea. Sitting outside on a Sunny day was a good plus as well.
very authentic and kind, friendly service. they sell yutaza (best eaten w/ stew, not alone!), which is a rarity to find. the meat is cooked excellently, just how it should be. it was a hot beach day, so we got compote, samsa, lampeng, and kawap (aka kebabs or shashlyk) in true Uyghur style. Pro tip: ask for the condiments (vinegar and lazajan) if you see it missing from your table! my family has been eating here for years, and we’re happy to see it’s still standing.
Wow. Just… wow. I've been searching for authentic Uyghur food like a desert nomad craves an oasis, and folks, I've found my culinary Shangri-La. This isn't just good; it's so good it makes me question every life choice I've made up until this point that didn't involve eating here. Let's talk fried manty. These aren't just dumplings; they're crispy, savory pockets of pure joy. I'm pretty sure angels sing when you bite into them. And the langman soup? It's like a warm, comforting hug from a kindly Uyghur grandmother who also happens to be a Michelin-starred chef. The noodles are perfect, the broth is rich, and I'm convinced it has magical healing properties. My only complaint is that I couldn't swim in it. Yet. The service is what I'd call "charmingly efficient." There's literally one waiter, who I suspect is also the owner, the busboy, and possibly moonlights as a secret agent. Despite being a one-man show, he's faster than a gazelle on a caffeine rush and surprisingly delightful. You'll feel like you're eating at your cool aunt's house – if your cool aunt ran a killer restaurant. The atmosphere is pure neighborhood gem – casual, unpretentious, and exactly what you want when you're about to dive face-first into a plate of deliciousness. Don't expect white tablecloths; expect to be incredibly comfortable and ready to get down to business with your chopsticks. Just a heads-up: they prefer cash, probably because their credit card machine is still trying to process how much flavor they're serving up. But they do take cards, so don't sweat it. In summary, if you're looking for an authentic Uyghur experience that will make your taste buds do a happy dance and your stomach sing praises, run, don't walk, to this place. My only regret is that I can't give it six stars. And that I have to leave. I'm already planning my next visit and debating whether it's socially acceptable to just move in.
We visited on a Friday evening and the place was packed by the time we left. We enjoyed the egg plant salad, the fried hand pulled noodles, and the kebab trio. A cozy spot when you’re in the mood for Xinjiang cuisine. The music playing was unique but went well with the flavors of the food.
A real local place. Great for after a beach day. The food is flavorful, deliciously seasoned, and cooked with warm love. The vibes are friendly and comfortable. 10/10 all around, can’t wait to go back. We loved the lamb kabobs (both lamb and lamb ribs) and the noodle dish. Also, the compote juice is delicious and the pitcher is a right amount for 3-4 people.
A HUNDRED STARS FOR THE FOOD!! We drove all the way from New Jersey, rain on the way, spent 20+ minutes to find parking, ordered right away after seated, waited for the food to come. AND THE FIRST BITE, SOOOOO GOOD! I don’t care what they said about the service, I don’t care how hard to find parking, the food here is absolutely worth it!! It’s like the anime Chūka Ichiban background music blasted out from the back of your head when you taste super delicious food. That was so so so worth it for us to come at the late night all the way from across the river. Definitely will come back again and again!! Dumplings were good! Chicken and lamb skewers were super good! Plov was super super good!!
Very good kabobs. The plov is buttery, and the lamb is well cooked. The lagman has an accompanying hot sauce that elevates it above the ordinary versions. If you can tolerate the heat, it is worth the burn. Service and atmosphere is full of expected great hospitality. Small but cozy space.
I come here often and this place’s food is authentic, very traditional and affordable. We always make sure to get the manti here and get some kebabs. Their rice is only good when it’s fresh. I highly encourage you to ask if it’s fresh. After visiting this place for many times, I caught that the service is always serious-faced and the check is not the usual check you’d get, and that’s a bit off guard for me, but again, it’s affordable, I’d definitely recommend it.
Halal Ughur food in Brooklyn! Count me in. The ambiance outside the restaurant isn't the best. However, inside is a cozy spot. I believe they make their own noodles - so that was unique. The food tasted fresh and newly made. If they'd increase the meat portions in their orders then the food would be balanced. BTW you should definitely try out the fried dumplings. Just remember that they automatically add a service fee when you dine in there. I will be back to try more options.
One of the best spots for Uyghur cuisine. Their dine in space inside is cozy, but limited - specially if you are going during dinner hours. Loved every single item we ordered. Food was finger-licking delicious and I would certainly go back to this place. We ordered the lagman, non-qourmasi, meat naan, and some noodle soup. Non-qourmasi came with naan topped with lamb and vegetables and it was one of the best things. Their meat is so tender and juicy, and just melts in your mouth. Food takes a little time, but it comes out hot and fresh so its fair enough. Our server was super polite and overall, the portions of the food are big! The prices are reasonable for the portions served.
My first time playing ever having Central Asian food (and it did not disappoint!) They’re not lying when they say they have the best kebabs in the city. Their chicken kebab was fantastic and I very much enjoyed their beef dumplings. On top of that, very friendly service and a very chill and traditional atmosphere. Definitely a place to go to try something new!
This place gives off cozy and old/historical vibes. Food wasn’t so much of a taste. But the best part is the food is HALAL and cooked by Muslims. The Pollo/Pulov had so much oil that we extracted in another plate. It is very expensive with a very small portion of food. The service is very good though. It would get 5 stars for all the down sides. Parking is not easy but if you are lucky, you’ll find parking in the streets. The kebabs are a small portion as well but tasted better.
I thought it was ok. Deff has some good flavor but I wasnt blow away like the other reviewers. I ordered naan it never came, bill wasnt in English dont know if I got charged or not. One thing that was a huge turnoff... the pitcher of water you gave us had a black ring of dirt under the pitcher lid. Asked for a lemonade got a pear soda instead. I totally understand the language barrier and I wasnt upset. The menu is decently priced portions are large and it says 20 min for most things to be made.
Had seen an infatuation article about Kashkar; a friend moved around the corner so we decided to give it a try. I was happy to support local - the restaurant has a very family run feel - they do not rush, are very kind and friendly. But prepare to be at the restaurant for at least 1.5-2 hours. Food - highly recommend the noodles w / vegetables. Fresh, thick noodles. The samsa is also VERY hot on the inside - I badly burned the roof of my mouth on the minced meat inside of the samsa. Very affordable. Lots of food for $60.
First off, we've been going to Kashkar for my son's birthday every year for the past 10+ years, and my review for every year up to this one would be five stars. Food is great, unique, and worth the trip. But this year's visit four days ago was a complete disaster, ending in us giving up on ever being served after patiently sitting at our table for 25 minutes, and occasionally informing the waiter that we were ready to order, only to be ignored every time. We got there around 7:15pm and it was pretty busy, but there was one open table. While we were standing and waiting for them to clean it from the previous diners, someone at another table warned us that they were out of several things, but whatever, we love this place. We'd work around any omissions. We were given menus, and that was the last time they ever acknowledged our existence. While we waited, two women who arrived later than us were seated, given menus, and had their orders taken. Increasingly exasperated, we told the waiter that we'd arrived before them and had been waiting to order. He looked at us with a blank expression and then moved on. After waiting another 10 minutes, we flagged the waiter down yet again, said we had been waiting for 25 minutes, and asked him to please take our order. He once again looked blankly at us, said nothing, and then turned around to go do other things, at which point we got up and walked out. I'm giving Kashkar two stars because while they deserved zero stars for how we were treated on this visit, I'm hoping that this was just a new and untrained waiter doing the worst job he will ever do and they will be back to their five star form soon.
We ordered one lagman dish, a soup, a kebab, a Samsa, and a 4-piece of fried meat dumplings. The food was just ok and portions were big, so I took some dumplings to go, and imagine my surprise when I bit into a THREE INCH WIRE/piece of thin metal inside the dumpling! I will not be going back
We waited for 50 mins to get our food and another 15 to just order. Multiple people came but there were no tables. If the service was faster, the business would have been better. Even if the food is good, time is money. Who wants to wait for an hour? Go somewhere else!
Really good food, terrible service. The server was extremely rude. And she forgot to put in half of our order so there was a 20 minute intermission between the first few dishes and the last few items we ordered.
Came with two people wanted to order one dish so we can share but they refuse
Zero stars I went to this place the other day, briefly about the interior - there is none, the prices are unreasonably high - the portions of food are small, the food seems tasty but two ladles of shurpa with a bone on half a plate for 12 dollars is a bit expensive. I also liked the fraudulent scheme with the bread lipeshka, I ordered a lipeshka, they brought me half, I asked for the second half, and then it turned out that each half of the tasteless dry lipeshka costs $ 2.50. and that's just for the lipeshka that costs 2 dollars across the street, the guys charge 5 bucks, I do not recommend this place, the price is inadequate, the portions are very small, to eat your fill in this place you will have to take 3 portions. I don't know what they do with the tea, but the tea in the teapot is disgusting.
Ordered online, got only half of order … had to ask for refund. Out of 5 items , 2 were missing… Food is good … but service terrible . For over 50 dollars order you expect something good…
Food is not even okay I have no idea how come they have 4.3 star lol they show me $110 bill once I left from restaurant I got charged $130 what a scame
I recently ordered from this Uyghur restaurant and was disappointed with the food. I ordered both the fried and boiled mantu—while the dough was nice, the filling was lacking. The meat was almost nonexistent, replaced by a lot of white fat and onions. I also tried their samsa, which was just okay, nothing memorable. Overall, the flavors were bland, and I definitely won’t be returning.
I went to this place last night (12/19) with my boyfriend for dinner as we always wanted to try Uyghur cuisine. The food tasted really good and flavorful. However, the service was absolutely terrible. if we could give minus five stars, we would have done so. We ordered several various items from hot appetizer (dumplings), to two main courses and beef kebab. The server never told us upfront that there is longer wait time for the kabob to be prepared. It wasn’t until we finished the appetizer and main courses (which came before the dumplings appetizer), asked for the check and for a doggy bag about 50 minutes later, when the server said the kabob was coming. At that point we told him to cancel the kebab. But, to our utmost bewilderment, the server ignored us and brought the kabob in a to go container with the check, that included the kabob. The server proceeded to try and force us to pay for the kabob in the rudest possible manner. A verbal argument and a totally awkward situation ensued to the point, that all 4 tables were staring at is. Finally the couple at the table in front of us stated that they would take the kabob, deescalating a totally unacceptable and unnecessary situation. There was also no other servers or a manager on hand at the time to intervene with the server’s rudeness and zero customer service skills. Even with the food being decent, I would never recommend anyone visit this terrible place and put themselves in a totally unacceptable situation like that. Another tip, be aware of this restaurant cheating people with misinformation. The prices on their site are MUCH LOWER than the actual prices when you walk in. This is how they lure you in. We spent over $65 for all the food we ordered for 2 person dinner.
