La Taq Brooklyn Reviews
The next time you are in Brooklyn, you have to check out La Taq! An amazing spot with a great atmosphere and authentic, high quality food. The carnitas and carne asada were on point and paired very nicely with my margarita. I’m already counting down the days until I can go back. Highly recommend! 🙌🏻
Legitimately incredibly good… so fresh!!! Amazing flavors. Great dishes. Our favorite people are here!!!! The carnitas are insane, and the Al pastor sooooo delicious!! Fresh chips. Wow. What a revelation.
I went there a few days ago with my family and the food is delicious. Also love the decor. I ordered the East La with pork and a side of super nachos w/ carne asada and my mom had the San Joaquin w/ carne asada and we both loved it, especially the guac. New fav spot and the staff is really friendly
As a San Diegan, this is what I've been missing. Flavorful marinated meats and fresh pico and homemade tortillas. I had the carne asada burrito with pico and guacamole only (this is how it comes in California) I was finally transported back to the West Coast. Very good and the right size. Thank u!
Recently dined at La Taq with my wife and kids. Cannot say enough good things about the staff. So welcoming and so helpful recommending this and that. We had the carnitas and carne asada. Got a Baja to go and was very happy with everything 10/10 recommend you all get over to La Taq
Excellent. The carnitas are some of the best I’ve ever had and the portions are sizable. I’ve now gone a few times and every time has been great. Hands down the best taco spot in the area.
Got three different tacos and some chips. The tacos were great. I was surprised at how good the pollo was (it's usually the blandest at most taco spots). The chips were thin, fresh, and crispy.
Brand New Mexican food spot in park slope , Me and my girl came here for a late night snack and loved the food. The Carnitas Quesadilla was smacking my taste buds. I would definitely come back !
The Outrageous California was ridiculous!! Literally the biggest burrito I’ve ever seen in Brooklyn!! Had it with the Carne Asada & Al Pastor 🔥 🔥!!! My brother got the San Diego Fries crazy!!
Delicious burritos that really do taste pretty close to one you’d find in California. Everything was fresh and well portioned. Will be making this a regular spot!
This place is so fam and the al pastor is delicious!!! Just ate some dank tacos and mulitas and raged Midnight Rider > Truckin' > Every Morning (Sugar Ray, 1999) > Janie's Got a Gun!!! Not bad for lunch on a Tuesday. Very friendly people too. Will definitely be back!
My new favorite Mexican joint. I love the outrageous California burrito with extra meat. Love the freshness . Biggest and best burrito I've ever had.
Grew up in the neighborhood and ate at the OG La Taqueria at least once a week until they closed down. I’m so glad they’re back in my life. They are the standard for tasty burritos in NYC.
I work in Park Slope and have been hearing about this place opening for months!! Finally stopped by for tacos. They definitely did their thing!!! I had the Carne Asada and we spilt the Super Nachos!!!
One of the best breakfast burritos I’ve had in NYC. Great variety of items. This is the place to go.
I thought I knew the best Mexican in the neighborhood. I stood corrected when I walked in. The quality of the food was on point, the menu set itself apart, the staff welcoming and the atmosphere quite warm for a January day. This SoCal taqueria should be at the top of everyone’s list. Olé!
the lunch special is ridiculously delicious and cheap! $9 for a burrito bowl and a drink. every part of the bowl was delicious and fresh. i had carne asada and it was seasoned beautifully. beans and rice were perfect. it came with 2 random dark chips and they were SO GOOD. can’t wait to go back. and i’m telling everyone. nine bucks. are you kidding me?
Had a great experience, great customer service, I highly recommend the rotisserie chicken platter, handmade tortillas (amazing, got hooked)… carne asada nachos with the perfect amount of cheese!! Thank You La Taq for the amazing music atmosphere with A one Margaritas!!
I've dined in and gotten delivery from here. I can only describe the burritos as life changing.
Not cheap but definitely one of the best burritos I’ve had in this area. I’d rather pay $20 and enjoy every bite of my food rather than spend $12 and chew at gristle and hard rice. Very very worth it!
I went on Saturday night with a group of four people. We had tacos and burritos and everything was delicious. The best Mexican food I have ever had! Lovely staff and friendly owner.
These tacos are sooo good! I have been on the hunt for tacos with homemade tortillas and it is hard to find. There homemade tortillas taste authentic and delicious. The chicken is seasoned so well. I am happy to find a place that brought the flavor of home to NY.
Nice quality and relatively healthy for what it is. Staff is friendly and their lunch special is a deal.
The food was Amazing, the atmosphere is top notch Mexican restaurants in the area. The Outrageous California borito and San Diego Fries being my favorites with large portions and great depth of flavor. Definitely coming back and telling my friends and family
Good Food, Great Service, HORRIBLE prices.
Excellent food and good prices. Portions are really huge (at least my partner and I realized that one bowl gets us three meals)
Finally a Mexican food joint in NYC that isn’t afraid of a little spice! Had the East LA burrito with the shredded beef, which was juicy and flavorful, the rice was toasty and complex, and honestly the marinated zucchini sort of blew my mind. Oh, and they have homemade horchata!! They better start a punch-card program because I’m definitely going to be here every week.
Boy am I glad that Marty Medina is back with a new restaurant and this one is a gem and does not disappoint. I am a vegan and gluten free and there are so many options for me. But my favorite is the black beans, nopales and fresh sliced avocado and to top it off I get the fresh made corn tortillas made from masa next to the counter. The food is just delicious. The decor is quite eclectic with tons of photographs, paintings, rock and roll memorabilia. Can’t say enough about La Taq. The best in Brooklyn!
La Taq is one of the best (if not the best) tacos in New York City. They have freshly made tortillas, excellently seasoned filling, and salsa that is fresh and spicy. After living in California for a while, where I experienced excellent tacos regularly, I had given up hope of finding an real taqueria when I moved back to NYC, or at least one that's nearby where I live in Brooklyn. La Taq has been a game changer. The tacos are quite large and filling. Their burritos are OK as well, but the tacos are top notch. Recommend the carnitas, fish, and al pastor. I would love to see a lengua option on the menu in the future as well.
this place is such a gem! incredible food (felt like I was back home at a beloved CA taqueria), wonderful service, super cute seating and decor, great music, and all around great vibes. both the tacos and the burritos are out of this world! also love that they have several delicious vegetarian options - i’m not vegetarian but have been w/ vegetarian friends (who also loved it).
Fast & fresh food! Everything here is absolutely delicious and hearty. There's a wonderful salsa bar and a small seating area in the back. Portions are big!
La Taq is exactly the kind of place you want to live close to and drop by often. The tortillas, the meats, in fact everything is so fresh, it will taste like you’re eating comfort food cooked by someone who really cares about you. The service is friendly, the portions generous, the prices are good and I already can’t wait to go back and everything else on the menu.
Hurray!!!!! I was so exited to see that they were opening back up. Hands down the best burritos. Everything is so fresh and delicious. I forgot how big the Outrageous California is. It’s enough to feed two people. Glad to have you back in the hood.
Everything about La Taq is amazing! Everyone who works there is so nice and very flexible. The food comes out very quickly!
Delicious flavorful food ! We tried the shrimp , al pastor & carne tacos and everything exceeded expectations. Even with a line out the door we were served & seated fast. So cool to see the tortillas being handmade from the outside window . truly fresh and yummy food , glad to see this iconic park slope staple back . Must try the frozen margaritas , sweet & strong ! can’t wait for future trips
Live around the corner and love this spot so much. We just had it catered for our engagement party for ~40 people and it was an absolute hit. Frank/Marty hooked us up so well, couldn't have asked for better food for it. So grateful to have this in our community. Thanks y'all!
Rare that I feel compelled to write a review, but La Taq deserves one. The food is phenomenal - certainly the best tacos I’ve had outside of Mexico. The vibe is super inviting, friendly, and fun. The staff are incredibly friendly and professional. The owner is there on a regular basis, and it really shows. I’m seriously impressed - nice work all around.
The food is delicious. La Taq and its predecessor restaurants have a long history in the neighborhood and the owners and managers are like family to many patrons.
If you love carnitas please give this place a visit. The single best carnitas tacos I’ve ever had. It was amazing. The carnitas had so much flavor and it was perfectly hot when I ate it too. I don’t think they make carnitas anywhere like this in brooklyn. Definitely coming back. Very good portions too. My father got a carnitas and al pastor and said he loved the al pastor too. Two tacos are very filling. If you are very hungry get three but two is just right as well. They have an awesome salsa station too so it makes it super easy after you get your tacos you can put chipotle or salsa verde and limes. Definitely coming back as soon as I’m back in the area again.
After a Nets game at Barclays Center, La Taq was the perfect spot for a late-night bite. Just a short walk from the arena, this place serves up incredible carne asada – I've lived in Los Angeles and never tasted anything quite like it. Tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, it was the ideal post-game meal. Plus, with a nearby train stop getting you right back into the city, it's incredibly convenient. 7/14 — updated to a five star after reconsideration.
Amazing Mexican food has arrived in New York City! I was born and raised in socal and this is 1000% the best Mexican food we have out here. I currently live in downtown Manhattan and commute here when I’m craving Mexican because it’s that damn good!! I’ve tried all the burrito spots and this spot wins by a landslide. Passionate owners and an awesome vibe. If you’re looking for the best Mexican spot in NYC this is it. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I loved watching them make the tacos from scratch. Service is quick and courteous , and the food is fresh and very good. The atmosphere is charming- someone went to a lot of GD shows as the poster implies! Photos appear to show an extended family history regarding food and culture. Great place!
Wow, wow, wow. As a Californian I’ve been griping about the lack of good Mexican food in New York for 5+ years since moving here, and La Taq changed all of that. I came here as excited as a kid on Christmas morning. Classic taqueria vibe, fresh tortillas being made in the window, SUCH juicy carnitas. New, instant favorite. Come here!!!
listen — the one thing i won’t do is sugar coat, lie or exaggerate here. that being said — the shredded beef taco w the works is hands down the best taco i’ve had in recent memory. juicy, tasty and legit. large too. great as takeaway — just be sure to pick up some salsas and peppers from the fixings bar!
We went for a lunch and the food was great, each taco was well thought out and individual, they were slightly larger than most taco spots with quality ingredients. Our order was the Pastor, Carne Deshabrada and a special of Lobster taco. All excellent. We met the owner briefly and he seemed to be a stand-up person.
authentic taco joint packing flavor bit pricey, for tacos had el rey, carne asada, and carnitas, fave and smokiest being carne asada with rey being giant. the rosita was a steak and shrimp burrito that was a monster as well, also had great hot sauces including el diablo which was fun spicy red sauce, and the green sauce was refreshing and our fave. horchata was also not too sweet which is a plus
Absolutely amazing food. Vibes are perfect. Everyone is so nice. 10/10 no brainer will keep coming back. Truly don’t understand how anyone can have a poor experience. Rest in peace Jerry Garcia.
At first I was a little taken aback by the price: $22 for 3 tacos and a water. However, when I saw the food, I realized it’s worth it. The tacos are packed with good quality meat, and all ingredients were very fresh and tasty. I was stuffed. They have 3 homemade sauces available too. Certainly a step above the run of the mill Mexican fare in Park Slope! You order at the counter and sit down. They have a nice interior with a decent sized seating area. Will be back!
Authentic tacos and burritos lovingly prepared by a friendly staff. I particularly loved the chicken taco with very flavorful chicken stew and interesting green sauce. It was filling and satisfying. The atmosphere has an interesting southern California vibe to it with a Mexican artistic finish. So glad we have a high-quality Taqueria in this corner of Park Slope now. There is ample seating.
Incredible lunch special deal has gotten me hooked! For less than $12 dollars during lunch hours Monday-Friday enjoy a full meal that includes a beverage of your choice. The location is perfectly situated in a warm and cozy part of Brooklyn. You’ll be delighted to have helpful customer service for those who can be a bit indecisive (like myself). Excited to try many more dishes and come back soon. The cherry on top is that they also have great taste in music 😁
Taq-o bout the biggest breakfast burrito I ever had, big as a baby, soft as a bunny, thick as a- well, you get my point. I personally also love a shrimp in my burrito, but if that’s a journey you decide to take, I’d recommend it after 3pm and with at least a 6 hour resting period after its breakfast brethren.
My husband and I worked up the nerve to take our two children-under-two out for dinner here last night for our oldest child's second birthday. Without getting too long-winded, the food was delicious and served quickly, and the staff were true champions and absolutely the kindest, most delightful humans. Parents know that it's really stressful trying to enjoy yourself as an adult in public with tiny kids. The staff helped us situate two high chairs, brought us food quickly, served it in an expert way where no kid could reach anything they weren't supposed to, and even happily offered to have us dock our giant stroller next to the register. At the end of the meal, my husband and I were making one last sweep to clean up stray table and floor bits from the kids, and my husband accidentally spilled his entire frozen margarita on the floor (awesome). Again, the whole staff was outstandingly chill and graceful about it. From the two (I assume) owner/managers to the ladies and gentlemen front and back of house, every single person was relaxed and smiling, making us feel at ease. We will likely be picking up from here for a while until we get the courage to venture out again, but seriously, we'll be back again and again to La Taq to support good food and great people. Thanks y'all! We appreciate you!
Their San Diego Fries are the best Carne Asada Fries I've had in a long time. No beans or lettuce that most New York places put, but california places never use. Better meat flavor than many places in California where I grew up. The portions are the largest in New York for a reasonable price. It could have fed 2 people or one really hungry person. Also a free salsa bar gives you the option of different flavors. This place is the closest to a Cali Mexican place I've found on the East Coast.
Good food but pricing is a little weird. The standard burrito is $15 on its own, and add-ons as simple as sour cream are an additional $2. I could understand $2 for guacamole, but seems excessive for sour cream.
glad a spot like this opened up in park slope. Good food but the pricing doesn’t make any sense. I’ve eaten here 5 times, ordering the same thing and each time the total price is different. Charging 2 dollars extra for simple things like sour cream or cheese? a standard burrito is 15$ excluding tax and doesn’t include those toppings. Also an extra serving of protein is 6$ so it can get very pricey
I wouldn't call it super flavorful BUT it is really good value. So a good place to take kids to eat. I honestly could have eaten just one breakfast burrito and been good to go.
The recommendation from ParkSlopeLiving to try the Carnitas Machoacan was on point. I normally try the al pastor when first time at new taco stand but not this time. I got the machoacan and a camarones asada tacos. While the pork was really tasty, I thought the shrimp taco was just okay. La Taq was delicious, I just didn’t think it was super duper special. As another reviewer said, I think Nene is the taco king in Park Slope for now for quality and value.
Good al pastor and shrimp tacos. Rotisserie chicken taco is mid. Helpful staffs with mid atmosphere,
Ordered two carne asada and one al pastor taco. They were both tasty and larger than I expected. I ordered a jamaica agua fresca and they gave me an alcoholic slushy. It was delicious and I’m not mad at all.
the chips guac and salsa here are fire. the rest of the food is good too, but the chips are remarkable.
I’d definitely say this is the best spot for Mexican food in Park Slope and the general area (for burritos, tacos, etc.). I really enjoyed the San Diego burrito though it was a bit heavy on the fries. The interior is beautiful and reminds me of the taco shops in CDMX. Looking forward to coming back and trying out the taco options since I really enjoyed the carne asada in my burrito. It does get quite busy but there weren’t many people when we came, it really depends on the time of day. Stop by if you haven’t yet, this will be my spot for Mexican food going forward and I’m happy about it!
The food overall is very good. I highly recommend the nachos, quesadilla, and carne asada tacos. Great portions of gauc and sour cream, and the spicy sauce is legit. Can be a little pricy but the portions are generally good.
Cool spot and nice to have an authentic taqueria. Fillings were mediocre and not very flavorful. Same with the salsas. Corn tortillas were a bit too spongy and they do not double wrap, so things fall apart very quickly. Good option and will eat again for sure, but a bit overrated and there are better options in the city.
Tacos are good. People who own Cousin John's now seem to own this place. Seating is in the rear, and you can see them grill the steak. My chief complaint is that the food gets cold very fast, and eating cold tacos/ burritos is not my idea of enticing. Last, a small 8 oz bottle of diet coke goes for $4.50. That's irritating!!
Maybe we’re spoiled with Nenes and Reyes in this area, but I thought the classic burrito I tried today wasn’t worth 5 stars. It had a good amount of spice but was relatively dry and overstuffed with beans. The tortilla was not that special either. I’ll give some of the other items on the menu a try over the next few weeks. If anything, it’s great to have a Mexican place open in this corner of Park Slope. The people working here seem friendly and passionate.
As a Mexican from Texas I wanted to love this place but found it to be just ok. First, a huge disappointment that the burrito tortillas are from a package?? That was the main reason I wanted to go. It appears the taco tortillas are homemade up front though. Second, the Rosa’s fried taco was stale, the beef was sooo greasy and the chips were stale. The fillings of the burrito were tasty but nothing out of this world. It was good but I won’t run back.
Burrito was huge! However, it was also really wet on the inside. About halfway through, the burrito couldn’t hold itself together and completely unraveled. It unfortunately did mess up the eating experience a little. Taste wise, it’s decent. I got carnitas East LA, and the carnitas was very tender. The flavor was more on the natural pork side, as opposed to lots of spices. I may just get tacos in the future.
This place has such potential and is better than 90% of NYC Mexican food. It's got a great menu and could be like a slice of California in Park Slope. But they don't season their food! I'm not talking spice, but like basic salt. I had to ask for a salt shaker to taste anything, and I almost never salt my food. Food needs salt and acid to have flavor and I'm actually impressed they can get a burrito covered in three salsas to taste like nothing because they don't know how to do basic seasoning. Nice people, but frustrating in that it could be really great and isn't.
The food was very good but way way too big. The burritos are easily for 3 people. And the fries for 4. Over-sized portion is not a good thing... I wish more restaurateurs showed care for people's health (and this way you are also potentially increasing your magins so win-win :) )
Food is okay - pretty standard quality for tacos and burritos. Would caution getting the rotisserie chicken burrito - massive and multiple bones and cartilage in mine!
Had the San Diego burrito (filled with French fries 🍟) and the steak and shrimp burrito (I forget the name). Both unique and different from typical offerings of the multitude of burrito shops around the area, so was very excited to try. First impression: HUGE burritos which justified the price. Tasty but nothing special. The structural integrity of the burrito was lacking as it opened up after only my third bite. I am prone to messy eating, but this fell apart too easily. The vibes are very cool and the place feels authentic. I wish I got the tacos as I saw the culinary team freshly pressing the masa into tortillas when we were leaving. The price deterred me from them ($7 for one taco?) but they seemed to be popular amongst other diners in the restaurant.
As with most things in NYC, they start out great and quickly decline. The first time I order from here I received a well-filled, tasty San Diego burrito. Second time was still good but less flavorful. Third time now and I received a cold burrito filled with pico, sour cream, tons of unmelted shredded cheese, and scant steak or fries. It tastes nothing like the first time I ordered it. The value is pretty awful. Over $20 for any burrito is insane, $20 for this burrito is even more insane.
Ingredients were delicious and fresh. My 3 rating is on product delivery. First, too damn big. I feel the US continues to suffer the chipotle effect when it comes to stuffing and rolling burritos… less is more! So much filling stuffed in can only go outward, which happens here after 2-3 bites on one end and the bottom blows out. Second is too wet… the pico adds too much liquid adding to easily slide stuffing out of the bottom, and just all over.
my burrito was fridge cold on one side because the lettuce, pico de gallo, and such on that side was chilled. the thin waterish liquid that drained from it when picked up didn’t whet the appetite. the flour tortilla was barely heated and too close to stale. won’t be returning wouldn’t recommend.
This was very disappointing. I brought a friend visiting from out of town to try it, and was embarassed tbh. 3 tacos cost $23 and the tortillas themselves were the best part. The al pastor toppings were fridge cold. Felt like the pineapple had been cut ages ago and let sit so it was cold and slimy. On top of meat that isn't exactly hot when plated either, not pleasant. I usually love the pineapple in al pastor but this was a huge miss. The special, fish taco - it was not fried and needed way more time on the grill or under the salamander. Most of it was room temp. Only the one tiny part that was charred and crispy was good. The dry rub seasoning was extremely meh, if fish is seasoned that aggressively then it needs char and crisp. The slaw was unpleasant and bland, also too wet with flavorless pico. I love slaw usually, and couldn't finish it. For something that takes 10-15min, as the fish is cooked to order, it should have been much better. Happy to wait and pay money for good tacos but this was so not worth it. Tortillas were clearly freshly made and great in themselves but for the large amount of meat given, it needs 2 tortillas per taco. Service was bad - there was no one in line ahead of us and yet my friend and I stood at the counter for 5 min before anyone even looked up or acknowledged us. The cashier entered in a (more expensive) steak taco instead of the al pastor i had just told her, and when I pointed it out she barely acknowledged her mistake. My friend ordered a soda and it was immediately forgotten about despite the drinks being right behind the cashier station.
Ordered the shrimp quesadilla. Shrimp is good, nicely grilled but the quesadilla was underwhelming. I am not an expert in quesadillas just to be clear. Way too much cheese in the quesadilla and bit pricey. $21 is a lot for a “super” quesadilla.
had bad customer experience. I picked up an order and arrived home to find an item missing. I went back to store and the staff claimed they included the item and gave me attitude to replace it. No apology. I order from here weekly but will no longer
They messed up my order ordered tacos asked teice to make sure they got the order and guess what they forgot my tacos got home opened my order to find there were no tacos place wasnt that busy at the time there is no reason for them not to get my order right except for incompetence
to the owner: you need to install actual AC in this place. it's 87 degrees and humid and you've got your workers cooking and serving food all day in sweltering heat. its not a safe or fair workplace environment
I have never been so disappointed in the level of customer service from this place yesterday. I was born and raised here in Park Slope for over 40 years, and what I experienced at this place with my family was embarrassing. I have been coming here by myself several times and really enjoyed the food and the service. However, when I came with my family, we were appalled by the dismissal of my child, who simply ordered a bean and cheese taco that was far from satisfying. The staff absolutely dismissed us when we asked if they could make us a new taco or offer us anything else like all great restaurants do, right? No, the young lady in the front said, "Since you tried it, there is nothing we can do." UNBELIEVABLE, considering the family neighborhood Park Slope is and this was for a child!!!! The taco was greasy and so messy we needed utensils (for a taco). The manager that I have seen before and has been very accommodating was not present. I am not sure if I will ever be back, but if I do, I will make sure they will remember how they treated my family. Please drop a comment 🙏 or send me any message that will quantify why this is acceptable. Thank you, and remember, "Spread love is the Brooklyn way."
