Mayfield Brooklyn Reviews
Oyster Happy Hour is a MUST! The food quality and portion here was great. They have some outdoor seating and nice service. I can definitely see myself coming back for special occasions. The only ‘complaint’ I have is that I didn’t care for their cocktails, but they were out of some when I went.
One of the best and most reliable restaurants in crown heights. Solid, good food with healthy portions. Highly recommend the fish or the steak frites. Interesting menu that satisfies a wide variety of tastes. Awesome bar and great cocktails. They take covid precautions very seriously so everyone can feel safe. Been coming here for years and still love it every time!
Very solid staple restaurant in the area. Discount oysters, great drinks, and everything on the menu is good. I go here once every couple of weeks and it never disappoints. Atmosphere and service is excellent, and they have indoor & outdoor options. Highly recommend if you are looking for a mid tier restaurant in the area.
Wonderful brunch spot with delicious American fare. I struggled to choose a dish and ended up with the Cuban. The meat was buttery and tender. Melt in your mouth!
Spareribs with fried pickles were really tender and tasty. Oyster po boy could have used a little more bite, but was pretty solid. Beer selection put together thoughtfully. Both desserts we tried were excellent: olive oil cake with compote was light on sugar which allowed the fruit and citrus to take front and center; the donuts were cooked perfectly and were very rich, as you would expect by the description. Service was very good. Attentive and thoughtful but not pushy.
Warm, friendly, and delicious. The oysters are always well shucked, the cocktails are delicious, and the fried chicken is plentiful and tasty. It's a nice open space as well, so even when crowded it never feels overwhelming. and the bartenders and waiters are incredibly nice and helpful. Love this place.
Went there last night, the food was so good. Great atmosphere, the staff was super nice and patient as we asked to be moved. The oysters were fresh and so delicious. Overall a 10/10 experience. We’ll be back!
The mushroom ravioli was fantastic, and the Brussels sprouts as well as the wings were perfect starters. I was sad to learn they no longer have the spoon bread on the menu, but was happy to order some dishes that will be new favorites. The place is small and narrow, but I liked the high top tables across from the bar. Playlist is great, too!
I can't speak more highly about the food here. Everything was delicious, balanced and filling. My friend and I crushed a plate of quail, brussel sprouts and fried oysters, finishing off with the delicately rich apple upside down cake. I'd come here for just a cocktail as well, everything was amazing. And our waitress was sweet and supportive of our decadent evening. I'll definitely be back!
This place is great! The food is flavorful and they have a good amount of offerings for their menu. I ordered the omelette for brunch with a paloma and it was like heaven in my mouth! I got my omlette with Swiss, caramelized onions, and mushrooms and it is the best combo! The waiter did forget some things as I was part of a large group but overall I was very pleased! Will go back again!
Our wonderfully attentive waitress heard me say Hot toddy would be perfect for this weather (cold wet March evening) and she told me she would be able to make it for us. The bartenders hearing is even more exceptional and I heard she was "putting the kettle on" it was perfect. Just how I'd make it at home. Waitress recommended fish and chips for me and taught me the diff between Irish and English fish and chips. Which I promptly forgot. All 3 of us got the fish and chips. And it was too much we could've shared 2 dishes with 3 of us. The apps (Brussel sprouts and baked oysters were awesome) and we had a great time.
Delicious food and fun atmosphere! Service was impeccable. I had the roasted trout which was amazing with a delicate cream sauce drizzled on top. But whatever you choose, do not miss the brussels sprouts appetizer. They came from heaven!!! Go. You'll be happy you did!
I've been here for drinks and dinner multiple times. The drinks are good, but the chicken sandwich is amazing!!! I just ordered takeout, and it came out amazing!! Crunchy fries, great sauce, amazing simple sandwich! Would recommend!
Great food at this seasonal American restaurant. The menu has lots of classic traditional dishes prepared creatively with a modern twist. I had the pork ribs and cucumber salad which were both delicious, and generous in serving size. For dessert my partner and I shared an order of the ricotta doughnuts. It was a great way to finish a great meal. We will definitely be coming back to The Mayfield again to sample their other menu items. Highly recommended!
My friend and I had dinner here in the middle of the week. It was a really nice atmosphere, nice and friendly staff, it was pretty busy but I felt attended to the whole night. It was my first time and I'm glad he introduced me! I had the Steak & I can not stop talking about it lol It was so juicy & delicious. I can't wait to bring a friend here myself! 👏🏿👏🏿
I'm not sure how my neighborhood got blessed with Mayfield but I've treated myself here most birthdays since they arrived. Today, not a birthday, they did it again. I had the squash salad, pork chop and cavatelli. The white wine from GA was delicious. The service was perfect at the bar Carlos was Absolutely wonderful. THANK YOU
Absolutely delicious food! Also make sure to come by on happy hour for those fresh oysters! The mushroom ravioli, clam linguine and quail dish are amazing! Can't wait to try other dishes! I believe the price is appropriate for how good the food is.
What a gem! Mayfield is the perfect date spot--dark and cozy, slightly upscale but still comfy, easy to get a table, tasty and affordable food and drinks. Started with martinis, oysters and a kale salad (divine!), and shared a fried chicken sandwich and patty melt. Both the sandwiches were enormous (we could've shared just one), incredible, and came with delicious fries and salad. Rounded out the night with some of the olive oil cake, don't miss out on this for dessert!! Impeccable service, perfect vibes, and the check for all that food was under $90 (unheard of!) with leftovers to spare. My new favorite date spot!!
This place rocks!!! Portions are sooooooo good. Sandwiches are enormous! The cubano & the fried chicken sandy are must haves! Menu changes seasonally (love/hate relationship with that!) Very dark inside, intimate vibes. Check this place out !!!
The freshly pasta is mouth watering and light. The steak special was huge and well worth every bite! The kale salad is a little on the small side, but a perfect side as the portions are all large! The service was great and they were kind and helpful with my nightshade allergies!
Yummmmyy! My sweetie and I ate here last night and just floated home on a heavenly food coma. We got the chicken liver to start ( a creamy dream), then had the spare ribs and the patty melt (what's not to love?). The food was heavenly but what really sets this place apart is the kindness!! THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE, so attentive and kind! Would def recommend!
This place is incredible. What a dining experience! Stake tartare, brussel sprouts, mushroom ravioli, cauliflower custard (!) are all to die for. The gin cocktail, score. Anna, was the best sever, as delightful as they were attentive and informative. Da best!
Servers were very attentive, ambiance was sexy , cool and laid back. The food was great! We had the oyster po boy, fish and chips and the Buffalo wings. I must say the blue chese that came with the wings were super-duper tasty.and the drinks 🍸 SUPER delish and worth every penny! 1 year later update ! My husband and I have become regular customers sometimes going twice per week the food and service is still consistently GREAT. my new drink of choice is the "Out of the office" try it , you won't be disappointed. And they always have oysters Which are always fresh and delicious 😋
Had a great dinner at Mayfield. The space is cozy with great lighting, and the service was friendly and welcoming. We had the kale salad, fried chicken sandwich, and the burger — everything was absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to come back and try their brunch. Highly recommend!
A Crown Heights classic, very fun place to hang out with your friends and have a delicious meal and some great drinks. Also, excellent wine selection. Cuban sandwich is my favorite; these guys do it right across the board. Check them out!
We went for Sunday brunch. Menu is simple but good and the food was excellent. Perfectly poached eggs Benedict, excellent French toast. Server was helpful and brought simple syrup for my iced coffee. Highly recommend.
My nephew & I were the tonight, Dec. 1, 2024, for a dinner date to celebrate my very belated birthday. Our sever was a true gentleman. I ordered po'boy oyster sandwich without the ham but what came was with it, to which I was allergic to, but after informing our server of the glitch, he immediately took care of it and my proper order was served after a few minutes. Overall, our food was delish, the service was excellent, and the bartender was superb as well. We loved our cocktails! Will definitely go back, as always!
This place was a random pick when trying to find a place in Crown Heights. There was a bit of a wait for a table of three but we lucked out with a reservation cancellation and got sat immediately. Had the kale salad as a shared starter. It was delicious, but I wish there were more options for starters on the menu. Went on to the gnocci with cauliflower cream sauce and prosciutto, it was the best meal ordered at the table and I'll go back just for that dish. Finished off with the girls getting desserts. The brownie ice cream sandwich was great. The mint gelato was a little too much of a true mint flavor, but I appreciate them doing a pure mint gelato. Shared a bottle of wine for $46 which was just the right price. Loves this place and will be back.
We went to Mayfield for a New Years Eve dinner and had a fabulous evening. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier and more attentive - the food was delicious. I had the trout with fingerling as I’m celiac - they were also very good at understanding the challenges of cross-contamination etc. Nd finally the atmosphere was very warm, convivial and festive. Will definitely return!
A really chill place. Cool atmosphere. The music is definitely entertaining. My friend and I had a good time at the spot. The appetizers started off really well. The wings really good. My friend had the Raw oysters. And she enjoyed all 12 of them. We both had steak. I think it was a New York strip. Cooked to perfection. I enjoyed the desert more. I definitely would recommend the olive oil cake with the berries. Along with having a glass of red wine and tasty Ale Beer, I'd highly recommend this spot. And the service was on point. Looking forward to going back for brunch. 👍🏾
Last night was my first time visiting this place and I will definitely be back! The atmosphere was so warm and inviting. The food was great. We had the fried oysters and wings- delicious. At the end of the night the owner came over and told us not to rush, that we were welcome to stay as long as we needed too. It was just a great experience. Anna was my waitress and they was very attentive and gave me a great suggestion for a white wine. The music was also very great. Definitely pleased with the service and food.
Fresh oysters and overall great food - couldn’t ask for more in a classic neighborhood spot.
I popped in here to grab a quick bite before meeting friends. The menu looked good enough but when the food came out, I was taken back a bit. It was more interesting and delicious than expected.
We had a great experience on a summer evening at Mayfield. The menu was very interesting and the food was excellent. The waitress was very helpful in her recommendations. The Caesar salad and the shrimp main course were exceptional. The oysters were tasty. It was a true find.
The oysters were fantastic and the happy hour deal is pretty good. Everyone inside was super nice!
I have been to Mayfield dozens of times, and it always delivers. A true neighborhood gem with friendly service, fair prices, and outstanding food. I get the kale salad every time. The burger and patty melt are decadent and amazing. The fried chicken sandwich is the yardstick by which I measure all other fried chicken sandwiches. The oysters are very fairly priced and always super fresh. They make my favorite manhattan in the neighborhood. They have a cute back patio, and friendly servers. I could go on. But just try it yourself!
The fish and chips were crispy and the burgers excellent. I only had the special mezcal cocktail, but it was also very good.
The service was really good, everyone there was very nice. The food was amazing! Everyone got really happy with the ordered plate. Recommend it and will definitely come back!
Honestly, this is just a super cute spot and I love having it in crown heights. Killer burger, and a great back bar. Can get pretty busy on the weekend evenings, but the staff is always friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to come back one of these days and try their brunch!
Such lovely and friend staff. Very dog friendly back patio. The food was delicious. Some of the best roast chicken I’ve had in NY. This is a perfect neighborhood restaurant—will be back!
Mayfield is the perfect neighborhood spot. It’s become my husband’s and my go-to when we don’t want to cook but also don’t want to make any decisions; we go to Mayfield, we split whichever seasonal salad sounds best, the fried chicken sandwich for him, the po-boy with Tasso ham for me. The service is super friendly, the beer is cold, the French fries are salty, and the bartender is hot in spite of (because of?) his questionable tattoos. What more do you need?
I had a blast tonight. The location of the building and the way the building looks from outside is beautiful and very mysterious. From the time you enter the door it's just a nice cool calm dimly lit atmosphere. My server Mikey is awesome and I can't wait to get back to the restaurant and see him again. I had the roasted oysters my daughter had fried chicken with french fries which was so moist it's ridiculous my friend had the ravioli which she was obsessed with
Great food with a cozy atmosphere. Really enjoyed the pork chop will definitely get it again.
This is a truly perfect neighborhood restaurant. It’s always busy enough to have atmosphere, but not so busy they can’t squeeze you in at the bar. The food is well made, generous and varied - classic modern American. The service is friendly, funny and attentive - special shoutout to server Alex and Carlos at the bar. The decor is also elegant without being overwhelming, and the acoustics are great too. 5/5 for this Crown Heights gem.
This is a LOVELY local gem. A broad menu, cool atmosphere, and great service. We visited for brunch, and even though we made a reservation, the staff was very accommodating when we decided we wanted to sit outside (even though the inside looked really cool). Drinks were delicious and reasonably priced, and the food was excellent quality. Extra points for having a surprisingly delicious side salad. I don't know if I've ever enjoyed a side salad in my life, but this one was amazing. Best of all, my father was visiting from out of town, and when he asked our server a question about his shirt, the server was super friendly and chatted with him for a few minutes about it. He was very cool and personable, and I am so happy my father had a great experience here. Can't wait to come back!
What a great discovery! Came here on a Tuesday, got oysters and probably the best burger I’ve had in New York. Will come back and try the pasta dishes!
The food was nice ! Me and my friends we enjoyed the ravioli and burgers 🍔 The beer was nice and fresh 🍻 Very nice atmosphere ✨
The vibe at this place is very nice. I was taken here for my birthday. The Mayfield employees are wonderful. The food was great I had the salmon with the corn salade. I also had the oysters Wich are delicious 🤤. We sat on the patio in the back. You get a nice breeze back there. My new special place to go. I 100% recommend everyone to check this place out.
Stopped in unexpectedly after a long day of Christmas shopping and enjoying the festive atmosphere of the city. We had heard good things about Mayfield. From the first moment you step through the door, we were greeted warmly. There were 3 in our party, each of us ordering something different. We enjoyed the mushroom ravioli, kale salad, the 1/2 chicken, and cauliflower! Amazing food. The music was great, the bar appeared well stocked and our water glasses were kept full too. Highly recommend going. If we weren’t so stuffed from dinner we would have ordered their signature donuts.
Good American cuisine done well, with an elevated twist. Five of us were able to make a last minute Friday night reservation and get a spot at 20:00. We got one main each and it was a perfect amount of food. I really loved the variety of vegetarian dishes available, including some great pasta dishes and salads. The cauliflower custard was really unique, but so good. The brussels sprout salad with beetroot that accompanied the custard was amazing!
Brunch was delicious. Omelet with some extra addons for 1$ each only is nice!!! Service was good. Dont judge a book by its cover (Im sure some of you live in apartments that look way worse...) cause the outside looks a bit run down, but inside is very nice. Also, cocktails were well balanced. Old fashions, negronis, etc.
Oooooweeee, I wasn't sure what to expect based on the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised! I've been here before when it first opened and had a great time eating $1 oysters in the back patio - this was the first time eating a meal inside after all those years. Clearly the prices have changed as well as the neighborhood. My friend and I arrived without a reservation about 30 minutes after they opened for dinner (5:30pm). We were able to get a great high top table where we could spread out and observe the kitchen. The music was a perfect mix of 80's "love songs" and hits that everyone could groove to. We ordered kale salad, brussel sprouts and the steak with fries. I started with 6 big rock oysters. THE OYSTERS WERE INCREDIBLE. The salad and sprouts were very good also, surprising robust flavors, but i do think there was a little bit too much oil added. The portions are for sharing. My friend said their steak was mid. They also ordered a mocktail that was not so great in my opinion, too sour, not enough complexity. Everything came to about $100 for the meal which was a splurge for us both, but the vibe was great with delicious food. I'm happy with the experience and would return for oyster happy hour.
What a lovely experience. At here with a group. The server was kind, attentive, and entertaining. I got the fried eggplant sandwich. At first I thought $19 was a lot for a sandwich BUT it was MASSIVE — honestly more like two sandwiches, and it was beyond flavorful. It also came with a ton of fries. The drinks were also fantastic. We also split some apps and the cucumber sandwich and mushroom ravioli were highlights. The only small comment is we were sitting right underneath some really strong fans / ac and most people at the table were pretty chilly, myself included.
The fried oyster sandwich with spring salad was delish! It not cheap but worth the price! To add ham is an extra $4 bucks but well worth the add! Squeezed in between those buns is a small amount of tangy slaw with a crispy, yet salty fried oyster and fresh onions! The bread is fresh and flavorful, the service was fantastic!
Mayfield is a simple neighborhood Bar and Restaurant. The service is friendly and attentive. We were there for lunch . They have a nice selection of well prepared food with whatever drink you may desire. My daughter had one complaint. The Mayfield stopped offering the BLT with an egg☹️. The atmosphere is OK. We had a pleasant no rush lunch at a reasonable price. We have been there multiple times and always enjoy our catch up.
The place is large, good vibe and I enjoyed my food. My sister and I went there because we heard it's a popular place. I had the fried chicken sandwich and the shredded kale salad... amazing! I was not disappointed. My sister had an omelet dish with sausage and potatoes. Unlimited coffee. Surprisingly on a Saturday afternoon they had available tables. Go check it out.
Went here for a celebratory dinner with my boyfriend and had a nice time. We shared some oysters, a burger with fries, and trout with potatoes. It was all delicious however the trout was a little too salted and the burger a bit under salted. I also think the lighting inside could be improved to create a more cozy atmosphere but overall it was a nice spot. And the staff are very friendly!
I have been coming here as a regular in the past but I haven't been back in 4 years. Back then I loved it so I took some friends for brunch. Unfortunately it hasn't stayed the same. I wouldn't say anything we ordered was really great. Maybe ok, but my steak was definitely either bad quality or badly cut. The bloody Mary had zero garnish and was hyper spicy. Not sure what happened but unlikely I will come back this way.
They were more then happy to accommodate a large party. The only reason it's not a full 5 stars is because I think they should take the fried mushrooms and lox off the menu. It was a weird combination the didn't make sense. But the other entrees were amazing. The eggplant sandwich I've been ordering since the pandemic. Still good!
This place needs to tighten up a bit especially considering it’s not a cheap spot…3/12 of my oysters were very gritty…to the point I still had sand in my mouth after eating them and the $16 cocktail was full of mostly ice. I’m a small women with not much of a tolerance and the drink was gone in under 5 minutes. You kind of feel taken advantage of when you get a drink like that….The entree was fine though!
Great menu selection, my squad pondered the tasty brunch options while getting wired on free refills of their bold hot coffee brew. A couple of us had the burger. Thick, juicy burger, I always love them, but nothing special about this one. The poached egg dishes I saw looked well presented, but similar didn’t knock anyone’s socks off. The cuban was a great savory sandwich, and would be my order if I returned. Missed out on that one. 😪
Nice place, simple but tasty menu. Very friendly stuff. We all loved their creamy polenta. Awesome pork chop (probably the best menu item). Shrimp pasta special was great as well. Try the desert menu as well we liked it all. The only thing we really didn't care about was their collard greens, they were kind of tasteless.
We enjoyed the mellow and welcoming vibe here. Our server was nice but a little spacey: repeatedly forgetting to refill water glasses and stuff like that. Some of the food, like the pork chop, was quite tasty, some of it was just okay, and some of it, like the mushroom ravioli, was just awful. Ravioli was totally mushy, overcooked, and lacking the cream sauce described on the menu. Was last here a few years ago and, overall, the quality seems to have slipped quite a bit.
Beautiful decor. The wait staff is very friendly but never got good service from the bartenders. Literally no employee smiles in this place and it sends weird vibes. Food is decent. Highly suggest brunch over dinner. Drinks are overpriced for the quality. Could use a better wine selection as well as better locally crafted beers. The alcohol list is tame. Go here for happy hour when you have a date to impress but don't actually have taste.
I’m not sure if they were just having an off night but the food quality was disappointing. We ordered the chicken wings and the pork ribs. Both were smothered in sauces that were really off - overly seasoned and different from when we’ve previously ordered these dishes. The meat was over cooked - like surprisingly over cooked. It was really cold in there - the bathrooms are freezing. Perhaps an off night but one that was a waste of money & time. The service is always nice. I just wish the quality of food was there.
Recently stopped by Mayfield on a Friday night and overall the experience was pleasant, but not particularly memorable. Our waitress was efficient and handled the table well, though the service lacked warmth and personality. The staff’s appearance was also a bit lackluster & confusing. Several team members were dressed in sweats, distressed torn flannels or outworn clothing, which made it difficult to distinguish staff from DoorDash employees. A slightly more polished presentation would elevate the experience. Food-wise, it was decent. I’d personally pass on the steak. The mushroom ravioli in brown butter was a standout appetizer and definitely the highlight of the meal. The wings were also cooked well and enjoyable. Drinks were tasty and refreshing, but they were on the smaller side, lightly poured, and priced on the higher end. A bit more generosity with the pour would make a difference. Prices overall felt high for what was delivered. The ambiance leaned dark and somewhat bland, lacking vibrancy or energy. Happy hour was limited, offering only discounted raw oysters, beer, and wine. It would be great to see more special-priced food items and a broader cocktail selection included. In conclusion, Mayfield was a solid but unremarkable visit. Nothing terrible, nothing outstanding. Just another Brooklyn spot that feel overpriced for an average experience.
It's a cute/quaint place to go to. Casual yet cute enough to take for a date night or happy hour with the girls. However....the food leaves the taste buds wanting more. It looks beautiful and is decent, but not leaving your mouth wanting more. The service, while not always visible, is very nice, as the waitress offered to get me a new entree when my steak was cooked incorrectly to my liking. Granted, even on the 2nd attempt, they still could not deliver a mid-rare steak, but it was seasoned well. Drinks are good
We came into Mayfield for dinner without a reservation. I felt lucky we were able to get a table outside on such short notice, but my joy quickly stopped there. We ordered a mezcal drink, snow pea salad, fried oysters, and fish and chips. The mezcal drink was decent. As a whole, I could tell there was thought behind the food. Unfortunately, in my opinion the flavors just weren’t there and the execution fell flat. The snow pea salad was covered in some kind of creamy and umami filled dressing. The individual components were good but I think the salad would have been better with a different flavor profile, perhaps something more refreshing and light. As a result of the dressing the salad just didn’t taste that good, even though the ingredients were fresh. The fried oysters sat on top of a sizable bed of smoked salmon and celeriac salad. Individually the fried oysters and smoked were good but the celeriac salad felt out of place. This dish felt like it would have been better with its individual components separated instead of together. Lastly the fish and chips was a disappointment. The batter itself was fried well but the fish was overcooked. The batter was crisp on the outside but slightly chewy on the inside. This would have been great had the batter had some actual flavor in it. The fish itself was overcooked and somehow lacking in flavor. The fries were decent but I expect the fries to be at least this good from a restaurant of this price point and caliber. Overall I could tell there was intention behind the food but felt the execution fell flat. Many of the dishes had great notes of flavor but just didn’t appeal to my palate. It was a shame because you could really tell the chefs were trying to do something great with each plate. It’s like trying to cheer for your favorite sports team that in your heart you know can do well, but lose time after time again. Unfortunately I don’t think I can recommend anyone come here. If I find myself back here I would be willing to try their other dishes for an attempt at redemption.
First off, great service and environment. Now for the food, our appetizer which was the fried cornmeal oyster were actually pretty good. A comparatively expensive appetizer to the mains but tasty for the most part. The burger was not enjoyable, did not feel like it was 100% beef, seemed more of a meatloaf. The poached eggs were not very flavorful, needed more seasoning, same can be said about the side of potatoes.
Their menu is misleading. It should say “appetizers” and have most of the things near the top under that heading. The waiter should also warn the customers that those expensive items at the top will not fill them up, he certainly had the opportunity to say something. More specifically about our experience: the meal was okay, The pork chop is good (as it better be for $26 bucks) near the end the waiter (who I initially liked!) spilled a glass of water all over me and my phone. He barely apologized. When it was time for him to offer me a drink on the house or something (which would smooth it over and avoid a review like this) he instead pushed the desert menu on us. We did order desert, but of course we had to pay for everything we ordered despite having a wet pair of pants to wear. We even got charged 3$ for a glass of seltzer water! (my friend actually ordered a bottle of sparkling water and the came back with one glass from the soda gun ). Overall The ambiance is nice it’s a bit loud. They should remove the TV set... Anyway, that’s what we did on Friday. Was a bit disappointing.
I really want to give this location a better star. However I have to be honest. When me and my guest arrived we were seated fast. I noticed at least 4 other groups (Not of Color ) entered. They were seated fast as well but had there food way before we did and they ordered way more than what I did.. It actually took a whole 50 minutes to 1hour to receive 1 egg and cheese sandwich, 1 egg cheese sandwich with sausage and a side of French toast. First when the French toast arrived, I was very angry because it was burnt. I asked the Waiter if it's normally this dark when they serve it. He said no and took it back. However when the new one came it was undercooked. Bread was soggy. When the egg and cheese sandwiches came. There was a very bland taste. Nothing had been seasoned. So we packed up what we had and decided to take it to go. I even returned my drink due to distaste. I felt this was a hit and miss day. The manager also apologized several times for things not being so good. So I appreciate the fact that he showed care. You can see the manager tried to make things better. But his chefs in the back was not doing the best job on food.
it's... Fine. I've been going here for years. The service is and never has been great. I used to come for the fries (great fries) and oysters but it looks like they changed the fry recipe (they went from breaded twice-fried to what looks like boxed Ore Ida fries, a huge downgrade). Probably won't be coming back any time soon, unfortunately. Bring back the old fries!
The oysters and drinks are good here. Service and entrees are meh at best; save the fish and chips. They also aren’t very honest in terms of billing. They charged me for an extra drink, I noticed and complained. They supposedly fixed it but my total was the same. And they altered my tip after I left. Yikes.
We went to Mayfield to have a little date night since we haven’t had a one in a good amount of time. we picked two things to share. We ordered Smoked pork spare ribs and Chicken wings. Smoked Pork Spare Ribs: The ribs were well overcooked meaning that they were dry and tough to chew. Chicken Wings: The chicken wings were overcooked as well and had too much salt. I understand that chicken wings are going to have salt on them but not to the point that it’s overpowering any other flavor. The atmosphere and service was definitely enjoyable though.
I used to be a regular at Mayfield years ago, and my friend and I were excited to return. Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience. After ordering drinks, oysters, and burgers, we discovered a *cockroach* in my friend's meal. We requested our server to send over the manager, but that didn’t happen, so we calmly explained the situation. While we were understanding and just asked for the bill to be compensated, we felt the restaurant didn’t fully address the issue. At first, only my friend’s meal was deducted, even though we had ordered the same thing. The cockroach could’ve just as easily ended up in my food, and I could have unknowingly eaten one myself. This raises concerns about a possible cockroach infestation. We were still charged for our appetizers and drinks, which felt unfair given the circumstances. At no point did any upper management or the owner come out to apologize or address the situation directly. As someone who values hygiene and food safety, this was a huge letdown. I sincerely hope the restaurant takes action to improve its cleanliness and health standards moving forward. Won’t be coming back.
I had a very negative experience here after coming here for years. I provided feedback to the manager about the issues we had but they didn’t seem receptive. Some issues: We asked if smoked salmon was wild and were told it was local sourced and that was it without any follow up. Upon ordering eggs Atlantic, my mom was asked if she likes runny eggs and then was told to not order Eggs Atlantic, since she doesn’t like them too runny…only for her salmon benedict being made over easy eggs instead of regular poached. We had a simple order that somehow became extremely complicated and left us confused…after flagging to the server they brought us hard poached eggs after we were told the only way they would be poached would be runny (which we said we were okay with?) I’m not sure if the issue is that eggs can’t be customized or communication with kitchen but it really stressed me out. I did provide the feedback with details to the manager which was essentially met with a shrug, so we won’t be returning :(
