Are you kidding me??!! The rhubarb cake and blueberry pistachio eclair were literally perfect. I’m gonna move in next door so I can eat my body weight in pastries. 👌🏼

All items baked on premises. Very pricey but the pastries and breads are delicious.

I visited Bein Cuit on the recommendation of the love of my life that said that the service received was very nice. I was warmly greeted and serviced by Aaron. A real lovely and well-mannered person. Attentive to my needs as a customer. Patient to my inquiries about product and a pleasant, pleasant, and refreshing representative of the Bein Cuit brand. He deserves due consideration for his service. It was real and an example of what is possible, in a healthy and good sense, rather than the polar opposite of what is not pleasant... I look forward to returning to this establishment soon and offer my personal and heartfelt sentiment of appreciation to Aaron. May you go from here to heightened success and peaceful waters. Peace

Delectable pastries; very generous staff and management. A true bright spot on Franklin Ave.

Didn’t go there myself, but gave a gift certificate to some friends, they used it, and said it was their favorite French bakery so far, especially for croissants

I rate them as 4.5, but sure, take the 5... The pain au chocolat is not bad, at least relative to other places nearby The space is nice Service is ok, made some mistakes like not asking me to warm up the pain au chocolat but asked the white man that came after me (the white man went on to take my seat when I got up to ask them to warm up my croissant despite leaving my helmet on table)....the drip coffee was cold (even though I asked before ordering whether I should go for drip coffee, and they said yes), but they re-made it... But good job overall...

I had a tart with elderflower and basil, and it may have changed the direction of my entire life. On another visit, I had the poppyseed chamomile cookie and it, too, was amazing!

Best.danishes.I’ve.ever.had. And I’ve done the leg work. Seriously. Favorite is pear danish but cherry is also amazing. Only downside - it seriously is hard to enjoy regular danishes elsewhere after trying these.

Friendly staff and fantastic baguettes and croissants. The desserts are also pretty great. So glad they opened a shop in Crown Heights!

E

The staff was friendly and helpful. They have a wide selection of breads (multigrain, baguettes, rye), breakfast and dessert pastries. The prices are very reasonable.

Always reliable. Always fresh. People commenting about pricing - check out what commercial rents in Crown Heights are going for. That, plus cost of labor, etc etc.

It ain’t cheap, but wow does it taste amazing! And if you have ever been to France and marveled at how good the baked things are, well, you will once again!

Wow! This is a nice bakery with a range of very yummy looking breads to choose from. The coffee was fine as well and there was some limited seating available. The five-star rating, however, is definitely down to the pastries and, in particular, the chocolate almond croissant. I am often enticed by a croissant, but often disappointed by my choice. Not this time, just delicious.

Long overdue review!I literally come here every day with my kids. The Coffee is delicious as well as the fresh baked pastries. But I think what keeps me coming back is the customer service, everyone is friendly, attentive and just downright makes you feel appreciated as a customer. I will continue to frequent this place for years to come.

Whoever gave this less than 5 stars needs to stop. Delicious flaky pastries. Best coffee and chai lattes in the neighborhood, and the staff is sweet as ever. Love this place

You can smell the sweet aroma of baked goods from the street! My test for a good bakery is whether they can master a plain croissant - flaky, airy, buttery, and delicate - and this place passes the test! I recommend any of their pastries that utilize croissant dough, such as the almond or chocolate versions. Planning to return to try their golden milk bread pudding when I'm in the mood for something richer!

To say that I’m happy this spot opened up on Franklin is an understatement. Amazing assortment of pastries and baked goods to choose from. I can see the action from the sidewalk. Good coffee. Dog friendly backyard. Perfect spot for a small or large gathering of neighbors. Plus the open face and baguette sandwiches were pretty incredible.

E
Ellie Julier

Their backyard is quiet and lush with plants, perfect for getting work done—plus a little play area for kiddos. They have a full coffee bar plus snacks and full breakfast and lunch items. The quality and atmosphere are just far and above other coffee shops nearby.

C
Chris Strickling

The coffee drinks are top notch. The pastries and breads are better than they need to be. They have a small outdoor dining area, casual, kids are welcome. Great place to start a morning or snag a magnificent bread for those fall soups we're all making.

Bien Cuit has royally ruined pastries for me. It’s so good I can’t order an Almond Croissant at any other cafe because Bien Cuit is like that one ex I’ll forever be pining over It’s so good that I’ve renamed my Retirement fund my Rhubarb Danish fund because at this rate diabetes will get me before old age and I’m here for it It’s so good that when I die my family knows to bury me with my Preserved Lemon Za’atar Scone under my Miche-shaped tombstone while Alexa plays Nothing Compares 2 U It’s so good my boyfriend is worried and frankly I’m about two Ginger Muscovado Cookies away from calling it Daddy Damn you Bien Cuit. Please never stop.

So happy this bakery opened up in Crown Heights! I’ve loved their original location for years and I’m so happy they’ve come to this neighborhood. The backyard is pretty sizable and has a cute little play area for kids. Best croissants 🥐

It's Thanksgiving 2019, so this review of appreciation is aptly timed. I pre-ordered a Thanksgiving pie from the Franklin location, and wasn't aware they were closing early afternoon. I had arranged with the location staff that I would be there while they were closing and cleaning up, but when I arrived, they had already closed for the holiday. My family and friends were super excited about the exotic Miso Caramel Pumpkin pie, so I was bummed to disappoint them. I wrote an email to Bien Cuit requesting a refund, and expected to maybe hear back next week after the holiday. Instead, within less than an hour, I had an email reply from the founder herself. She was extremely apologetic and offered to deliver the pie to my home. Less than an hour later, the pie was personally delivered. On Thanksgiving. The level of customer service, generosity and above and beyond handling of my order was heartwarming. This is why I love small, independent businesses like Bien Cuit. I certainly didn't anticipate this kindness and am forever grateful for it - I'll be a Bien Cuit customer for life! Thank you Kate, this meant the world to me!

Bien Cuit is a must if you’re into rich, perfectly baked pastries. Everything feels super thoughtful—from the flaky tarts to the fresh bread they bake daily. Great spot to grab a treat and their back patio feels like a sweet escape from the hustle and bustle of Franklin Ave.

What a fantastic experience! From the moment I walked in I was in awe of the gorgeous offerings and beautiful clean space. Everyone was happy and in a great mood and that just instantly put me in a state of peace and stillness. While enjoying this quiet moment I was enthralled by the interesting matcha milk jam. I then turned around to see the pastries on offer and was instantly captivated! I had been familiar with their “basic” products because Bien Cuit supplies many coffeeshops around NYC with croissants but this was a whole different level… purple potato hot cross bun?!? Earl Grey lemon loaf!?! Mandarin fennel bread?!? Amazing amazing! I bought it all and shared it with a friend. An exciting culinary experience! Many thanks to Bien Cuit for helping to transform a fun afternoon into an exquisite one 💜

Cute love it in here. Coffee is good quality, and one of the only spots where I can find a good quiche lorane. All the girls are really sweet and Damion is just a delight. Well priced and the cookies are a staple in my sweets diet.

A quaint spot on Franklin Avenue for high-end pastries, sandwiches, and specialty snacks like sausage and cheese. Artful avocado toast, creamy coffee drinks, and fresh breads galore also pose deliciously delicate options for the inquisitive, or those tempted by a tasty and luxurious chomp and sip. The perfect way to impress guests or supplement the perfect picnic. Worth the splurge.

This place brings a taste of France to the streets of Brooklyn. Their pâte feuilletée (laminated dough) is buttery and flaky, making for excellent croissants and danishes. Very well done patisseries, although the financiers and cookies were less impressive.

THIS PLACE IS A MUST VISIT! TRY MULTIPLE ITEMS! I called them up just about 15 minutes before closing to see if I could swing by and grab a few desserts after a long day running around the city. The manager really knows his desserts and was able to speak about the intricacies of each one and what makes them unique. You can tell he takes pride in his work and his bakery. Everything is nicely organized. Desserts are labeled so well so you know exactly what the item contains (especially if you have a nut or gluten allergy). The desserts are absolutely HEAVENLY, beautifully designed and decorated, and have the perfect amount of sweetness. Craftsmanship at its finest. This is the perfect place to get desserts and pastries (as well as bread, sandwiches, and drinks) for that special event including Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, friends and family gatherings, and / or corporate events. I got the following: - Cassis Citron Tart - Mexican Chocolate Buche De Noel Slice - Chocolate Pecan Frangipane - Apple Pastry I will 100% be back! Glad to have them in the neighborhood!

I absolutely love this bakery. Their chocolate almonds croissant is one of my absolute favorites, it’s so unique with the mix of chocolate and almonds, perfectly sweet and it pairs so well with their delicious matcha latte. For a while whenever I had free time I would stop by almost every day since I live nearby. Unfortunately my schedule doesn’t allow me to come as often as I’d like but every visit feels special. The customer service is incredible, everyone is so kind, especially the gentleman who usually works in the early mornings. He’s always warm and welcoming and truly makes the experience even better. As someone who grew up used to French pastries I can honestly say it’s such a gift to have a place like Bien Cuit in this neighborhood. Highly recommend to anyone who loves high quality pastries.

Pastries are very good, same as bread. I think the service has recently changed because they are way nicer they used to be. Some of the best bread in the city, although the prices are also top tier ($2.25 for a 3oz ciabatta roll in April 2021).

A bit overpriced, but the pastries are delicious, the coffee decent, and I’m looking forward to warmer weather to make better use of the cute, little courtyard in the back.

Rip to all the customers (including me) who didn’t know what bien cuit meant 😓. It’s not for me, but the place itself is cute. The service was friendly and I can see myself coming back maybe for bread or coffee. But I spent around $50 on a variety of sweets and I didn’t care for almost any of them. Typically I like crispy things but some were genuinely hard to bite or fork into.

We were very surprised how flaky were the pastry. So good , maybe need more chocolate. The matcha latte was ok. I would like to try their bread

Good selection of bread an pastries, good quality, good coffee, nice ambient. You can sit in their small hidden backyard which is a nice alternative to the more crowded streets outside. If you want to have your coffee in peace and read a book, come here. If you want to watch people while having your breakfast, this is not the right place. Prices are reasonable.

Cute little bakeshop that makes fresh pastries. I ordered the chocolate croissant and asked for it to be warmed up. It was really delicious and fresh. Every time I am in here, someone is purchasing freshly basked bread so that might be my next stop.

The quality of food here is so top notch! The quiche is so rich and creamy, the baked goods so flavorful. They will heat up your quiche right there. The only downside is that the purchases eat up my wallet.

A bit overpriced. The croissant is a croissant. The tangerine croissant was well done so the flavor I got from it was... a little burnt with a bit of cheese.

Pretty mediocre chocolate croissant; decent outer crisp, but the inside is really dense, almost like a biscuit. Ive had much better at ceci cela or cannelle patisserie

M

The food is okay, it's just way too expansive for what it is, and the selection is very small, only a few desserts and few savory items. There are better options around for french bakeries.

C
Clara Chang

Really cute bakery with excellent ambiance and wide array of bread options. Unfortunately I decided to get a half sourdough loaf and it really didn’t have any flavor or any of the chew I expect from a developed sourdough. It tasted like regular white bread and they also don’t slice loaves for you (they’ll cut in half to sell you a half loaf but can’t slice it further). For $11 for a half loaf, I expected a lot more. 3 stars because the woman working there was very kind and pleasant and I think I probably just ordered one bad thing on the menu. The pastries looked divine and I’m sure they would taste great. Will come again to try something else.

This is my 3rd time here (I left Like 2hrs ago) & typically I get a slice of the loafs. I love how they pack them in the box so the icing is in tact. Today they had one I’ve never tried and it looked so delicious. The cashier put it in this bag, totally ruining the Icing, & handing it to me so messy. :( I’m sad because just noticed it’s in my shirt

#TGTG pastry bag - The staff was helpful and pointed me to the bag that was diligently packed. The restaurant has a spunky vibe and looking at all the food made me hungry. I got a total of about four pastries. The plate may have one dessert missing (almond croissant) and may have a dessert from another place (the round thing with raisins) The portion size on the desserts were huge and definitely covering the value portion. The pastries were flaky but for me were a bit too dry. I don't know if that's by design or because they are left overs. Secondly the taste was just alright and nothing too out of the ordinary to say.

I think covering Bien Cuit completes my tour de chocolate almond croissant in Crown Heights. I think this one was overpriced but you're paying for sheer volume at $7 a pop. I managed to walk home and still not finish it, which isn't normal for me at all. In my opinion, they had a good selection of baked goods but it wasn't very clear what was in stock. They had a few random loaves of bread but I didn't see anything enticing. The overall environment wasn't as welcoming as other bakeries in the area.

Came today first time to try ..complete disappointment..coffee was lukewarm..and lacking flavor. We also had ham cheese croissant with tiny piece of ham inside and no taste, almond chocolate croissant was ok ,but nothing super.Everything massively overpriced.,disgrace. Plus counterpeople not very friendly..I seen much better bakeries, that's for sure

C

Super small space and the bread is terrible- crust is too tough and leaves you with a jaw ache. Coffee is fine, the pastries are also fine but overpriced.

G

The place and the stuff are great but unfortunately when ever I decide to get a croissant for breakfast is hard like rock and I ended up throwing it away, at this point is waste of money..

W
Will McGarey

The staff were all super nice, but their sourdough is subpar and way overpriced. $18 for a loaf of sourdough and they don’t even slice it! It’s a real shame Winner bakery closed up the street cause their sourdough loaves were fantastic, double the flavor and half the price

R
Rachel Tang

I want to like their bread and pastry so much. The customer service is at no fault, but the corn bread loaf cake I got was so hard. I understand it’s made with corn flour but it should crumble not remain intact when you bite into it? Felt borderline stale as it was so dry. Also their baguette is sourdough and very sour. I didn’t see it labeled as so and still pretty sure it wasn’t so that was a bit annoying. For $5 it’s quite disappointing. The earl grey pound cake was decent, but not redeeming enough for the rest of the products. Other locations are significantly better (cobble hill).

A
Ann Van Epps

This place is so confusing. It has all the elements of a good place to buy pastries and bread but they never taste as good as they look. A lot of times the bread is stale, the pastries are always bland or they taste differently than they should. Everything is so pretty and the smell is so good, I get tricked and forget and come in and nope, it still doesn't taste good! I wonder if they forget to put expiration dates on things? The coffee is actually good though.

We were beyond excited for its opening. We had always thought that this part of Franklin Ave needed its own bakery shop and now we were finally having it!!! So when we first stepped in the shop right before thanksgiving, we were filled with joy and ready to indulge in the infamous bread or yummy croissants... Then, we realized immediately that something was missing!! The shop has its own industrial oven in the front of space facing the street with the baker working right behind the window, a very good marketing tactic to add an authenticity and a flare of craftsmanship. But it probably did such a great job with ventilation that there was barely any smell, the type of bakery smell that is so yummy that draws you in when passing by ... With our noses feeling a slight disappointment, we proceeded with enough curiosity to the counter and started to look for something to try. Then, after looking through the carefully and yet sparsely placed pastries and croissants, we encountered a puzzled situation: there was no prices. Upon inquiring, we found that pastries range from $5 and up with a plain croissant costed a little shy of $5 and a croissant sandwich with turkey and cheese was $11. Half loaf is about $8 on average. We tried a croissant and a pastry. None of them were impressive enough for a 2nd time. Couple weeks later, we were passing by the shop and decided to try couple of other things to make sure that we don’t miss some hidden gems. We bought a small baguette and 2 different pastries (don’t even remember what they were). There are just nothing worthy mentioning. Yeah! That was the problem: the entire shop was just so blah! The layout of shop was impersonal, the wall in the back was dirty, the lighting was cold, the displayed products often miss pricing, the place doesn’t smell like a bakery, the staffs behind the counter knows little about their own products, the pastries and the bread just don’t taste yummy: they are dry, lack of flavor and pretty to look at. We wanted so much to fall in love with Bien Cuit but walked away twice with disappointments.

Dear ZACHARY GOLPER, you product is simply amazing and I travel longer distances just to enjoy your bread, pastries which are all made at the highest possible quality. The reason for this negative review is that your staff often times at the Franklin location is so rude, condescending and unfriendly that I’m considering going elsewhere which is a shame. I don’t know who does the hiring but I would strongly encourage a change. Rudeness does not connote sophistication. I expect a pleasant experience when consuming something of this quality, not as if I’m badly tolerated or treated with co tempt for even asking a question. P.S. The person who prompted this review worked 9.5.2022 at 8:15am. Might want to have a chat with them.

I love Bien Cuit on Smith Street, which is why I was excited to find out that they opened a new branch on Franklin Ave. But what a disappointment. I found the pastries I tried lacking in flavor, and pretty much everything is overpriced. If I treat myself to any pricey French pastry, I expect to get something extraordinary- especially if the place charges more for croissants, tarts, etc than Manhattan-based French bakeries like Dominique Ansel and Mah-ze-dahr. Nothing I tried was memorable or tasty, I don’t think I’ll go back.

Had a tiny tiny piece of chocolate cake for $12!! Fully out of control and proportion this place. And for that price it wasn’t even good.

I got priced out of the $8 (pre-tax pre-tip) croissant 😢

It smelled so good- but the half loaf we got was so hard its crust cut my mouth open no more than 12 hours after purchase. Everything is so. freaking. expensive! Over $12 for a lemon loaf dripping in sugar and $7 for a disappointing croissant. Utter disappointment. You’re better off buying a loaf from the grocery store.

I have supported this bakery since the opening on Smith Street and must say that it has severely gone down hill especially at this Franklin Avenue location. The young woman who is the clerk at the register is one of the rudest and most unfriendly that I have ever encountered. I respectfully explained to her that the bread that I had purchased on not one, but on two occasions was stale and her reply was unapologetic and condescending. Her exact words were, "All of our breads have a hard crust. Have a nice day." As a loyal customer and a lover of good artisan bread this is not it! Do yourself a favor and GO ELSEWHERE!!

Service went downhill. You can stand in the line and even in front of the counter ready to order your drink and pastries (that are great here, most of the time) and you won't be greeted or welcomed. It's sad to see how places change like that.

Utter disappointment 😞 I usually purchase sourdough bread in the city afterwork and haul it to Brooklyn. So imagine my surprise and excitement to find a bakery in proximity to my home. I purchased half of a loaf. When I got home, I sliced into stale bread. I'll try them one more time, but next time inquiring on bake date.

Got there a few min before 7 and we were told they are not open yet. Came back at 7 and stood around for 5 min being ignored..then a woman came out of a kitchen and close to screamed that they are not open yet..bcs she is not ready..she was flustered close to screaming..7:08 we asked for just a loaf as we are running late and lost 15 min waiting for them to open..got no....not "sorry cant help you we are running behind.." nothing just no..we are not open at the top of her voice....shockingly rude way to start your morning...

Terrible customer service! As a neighborhood local, I’ve enjoyed coming here and liked having a bakery nearby. I used to walk by often with my dog (26 pounds) while walking my fiancé to the subway, then take the dog home and return for food. I asked them one day (sans dog) if dogs were allowed inside for takeout orders. I was told ABSOLUTELY YES and was even told thanks for asking. I’ve continued going in the mornings for a quick drop in several times during the week with my calm dog in tow. I’m a huge advocate of supporting local business and many business owners know me on Franklin given my frequent stops. Today I was told, rudely, that dogs were not allowed inside and that I needed to keep her outside. They have no signs posted and told me the opposite. I never take my dog where they aren’t welcome, and the aggression and rudeness - especially when my dog was not a disturbance to anyone - was extremely upsetting. I’ll never purchase anything from here again. If you have a no dog policy - post it, and don’t tell your customers they are VERY welcome one month and then ask them to leave the next.

Disappointing how a place like this sells old baguettes on a Holiday. In french, we call this arnaque / rip-off Edit in response to message below: if hard , dry baguettes is their style, then fair enough, but doesn’t change the fact that its bad.

Normally love this place but charging $20 for a loaf of bread… it’s very clear that this establishment is for a very certain demographic within the neighborhood. Wish they made their very basic amenities accessible for everyone not just the rich yuppies.

I came in at 6.30, plenty of time before they close at 7 pm. The girl acted as if I massively inconvenienced her. She said they no longer made coffee at this hour - fine, whatever. I got a croissant and asked about one of the cheeses on display. Her response was, “I don’t know, whatever the label says.” Was she trying to make me regret even coming into the store? I’ve been at this bakery many times before, and my experience at earlier hours was normal. What’s the point of staying open until 7 if you don’t want to sell anything? And why would a business tolerate such rude employees?

This morning I paid $7 for a cup of milk with a whisper of a vague spice flavour aftertaste masquerading under the guise of a “chai latte”. This was hours ago and I am still disappointed :(

Was excited to try it because I used to pass the one in Cobble all the time and it always smelt delicious. I bought a multigrain bread loaf and an almond croissant. Major regrets. Not only was it expensive ($22 for both) but both were hard and did not seem fresh

Not sure who is at fault here, but one, very slim bread called Pane Francese was $12. I left it there. Something is broken if bread is this expensive.

I've been living in the neighborhood for the past four years And recently the service has gone downhill There's a guy who works there with curly hair blue and a Wearse glasses he is one of the most rude People who have ever served me in this coffee shop every time I order with him he always Has an attitude When I ordered a drink Instead of Being polite and handing it to me he just says here and slams into the table Very rude

Paid 35 dollars for a bag of loose, stale pastries. Pound cake was 7$ and seems cut by a child. Will never return.

Update after three years of living in the area and continuing to give this place a chance once in a blue moon in hopes that their pastries OR bread somehow improved: still baffled how they manage to stay afloat! The baguettes are dry and stale, the pastries are dry and stale, and the price!!! $7 for a crusty slice of pound cake?? $4 for one inch of financier? My roommate asks why I keep giving them chances and I honestly don’t know how to respond. I suppose the real answer is there is no other bakery in the area. The biggest mystery of Franklin Avenue!

I ordered a salmon tartine—open faced sandwich—and was surprised to find a thick layer of very mayonnaise-heavy potato salad under the thin slice of smoked salmon. A truly odd combo. BUT I was even more surprised to discover a few hours later that I was sick to my stomach. Very sick. For two days. I can’t prove it was this sandwich, but the timing matches. I should have remembered that premade sandwiches with mayo can spoil quickly. I would not recommend this food

All I can say is that there is One Direction that's incredibly rude it's like she doesn't want to be there I'm not sure what his name was but he has curly hair and he wears like a beanie and he has glass on. Most of the other Baristas at this location are nice.

Usually my go to in the neighborhood. But I went to get a croissant, and the guy working was taking out the trash from back to the front outside. He didn't wash his hands before handling my order and I can't go back.

Worst bread I ever ate in my life. Tried 3-4 different options including the baguette, wouldn’t be able to choose which was the worst. NYC should be ashamed of itself for letting such a place grow to have 3 different locations. It is the city of the best food and the worst food, which people forget to add.
