Mekong BK Brooklyn Reviews
What I’m about to say might be a bold statement: Mekong has the BEST chicken Banh Mi in the entire city. Seriously. I don’t know what magical seasoning they put on this perfectly thinly-sliced chicken, but it is warm and sweet and spicy all at the same time. The layers of veggies add the right combo of crunch. Order this! You won’t regret it.
This place is a gem in the neighborhood, providing delicious and soul-warming pho in a cozy environment with an excellent music selection. Coming from the west coast to NYC, it's hard to find a quality bowl of pho, but I was very happy to find that this place does the trick. Many of the other places we've tried are either too bland or are some weird fusion experiments. Mekong stays true to traditional flavors and delivers a no nonsense broth that has healing properties. Highly recommend. The atmosphere is very cozy and intimate. Set a few feet into the ground, the warm lighting, surrounding plants, and vibrant fishtank transport you into another world where you can escape the city for a while. The music selection is also stellar and never fails to impress with it's diverse mix of indie, funk, and soul tracks. A great place to take a date or hang out with friends in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
Always so happy when we come here! Food and atmosphere is just what we need after a long day, and staff are super chill. Cute date spot as well ;)
I hoping there would be a good pho place in Brooklyn. Then I finally found one on DeKalb. But this is not a regular pho you would find in Chinatown. This is a hip version with a nice bar counter. The question is, is the food good? I tried summer roll and three mains including pho and banh Mi so far, and yes, they are all good. They come out on cool looking dishes, too. So the prices aren't Chinatown prices. They are DeKalb prices. But it's still worth it. It saves you from traveling all the way to Chinatown. The bartender there super nice and friendly which is a huge plus!
Great place to eat! One of the best chicken wings I’ve ever had! There banh mi is packed with meat and flavor. Sleeper item on the menu is their chicken salad. Light and refreshing!
I always try to pop in when I’m visiting nyc. This is my favorite pho spot hands down. Also most of the menu items are GF which is great cuz my wife has a gluten allergy
Wow what a spot The spring rolls brought me right back to my time in Vietnam. The service... amazing! Decent bowl of pho. Menu has a lot to offer.
Delicious food!! Restaurant's not pretentious at all. Great location!
Delicious food, all 3 of us loved everything we ordered. Can't wait to go again.
i rarely eat in person but mekong is one pf my favorite vietnamese places and they’re always consistent! I love their beef pho, and salt and pepper shrimp, highly recommend!
Broth: light and balanced on the spices Noodles: perfect ratio of soft and firm Meat: Savory cuts of beef, no shy portions here Daytime service is amazing, evening service could be improved by paying a bit more attention to the orders, but I won’t dock a star just because of that. There is always funk or soul playing, and it’s the best place to cozy up to a hot bowl and iced Vietnamese coffee 🍜👌🏼
Excellent Vietnamese restaurant with incredible calamari and banana cream pie. The Mekong street noodle is also a must order, with a super umami shrimp flavor. Yes the usual pho and other go to dishes are good too, but if you are looking for something more than just pho, this place will deliver. Service and decor are also wonderful!
The food here tonight was delicious, and when I think about it, the best Vietnamese food I've had in New York. I like the atmosphere a lot too. It's not too noisy so you can have good conversation, while still hearing the well-chosen music.
It used to be on 5th Ave and Garfield in Park Slope... when that location closed my wife cried. Now there's one on DeKalb called Mekong BK and it offers the same delicious fare.
I’ve eaten at Mekong during all seasons and have also ordered takeout. Their pho is my favorite in the neighborhood. The food is truly delicious, especially eating in the restaurant. Takeout the portions tend to be a little skimpier compared to eating there, but still delicious. Love this place.
Stopped in for drinks and ended up having one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. I got the farmer’s egg noodle, but the owner said he would make me a special pho next time I come so I can’t wait!!
Neighborhood staple. Popular but not too crowded; lots of people get take-out, but I enjoy sitting at a table or the bar and eating, since the atmosphere is good. I love the food, especially the fresh summer rolls and the beef pho. Dishes are plentiful and service is prompt. Varied menu with a good vegetarian selection.
Celebrating our engagement week at Mekong BK was an absolute culinary delight! Amidst the backdrop of Fort Greene's upscale dining scene, this unassuming gem stole the show for me. Unlike the glitz of Michelin-starred establishments we also visited that week, Mekong BK's charm lies in its dedication to real, flavorful experiences rather than fancy interiors. As a gourmet and someone passionate about food and cooking, I was genuinely impressed by the consistently high quality and freshness of the dishes. From the crisp calamari au beurre, artfully presented over fresh lettuce with a savory lemon pepper sauce, to the tender fillet mignon accompanied by crisp watercress and a special sauce, each bite was a testament to the authenticity and passion behind the menu. The beef tartare, infused with ginger, added a delightful twist that appealed to my taste buds. In the midst of celebrating such a special occasion, Mekong BK provided an unforgettable culinary experience that outshone even the Michelin-starred venues we explored during our engagement week. And let's not forget the Vietnamese coffee – a perfect ending to a week filled with extraordinary flavors. Mekong BK has undoubtedly become a treasured memory in our journey together.
This is hands down the best Vietnamese spot in my neighborhood. Great food, great service. Whether I'm dining in or ordering delivery I always go for the beef pho and the crispy spring rolls. Delicious food, and great service.
The food here tastes like it's made with a lot of love. Their Bánh Mí is the best I have ever tasted. The bread was fresh and toasted but soft and easy to bite, the pork was tender and juicy and the veggies were fresh. Their Pho was also delicious, perfect portion and good for the soul. We ordered the beef brisket Pho and the beef was cooked just right. Their service was great and simple. They take your order, they bring you your food and all with a good attitude. The venue is lovely and clean with a nice quiet vibe at least on the evening that I visited. It was truly a great dining experience.
Tasty and healthy food! I love the Iron Pot Lemongrass Chicken Curry, Tamarind Soft Shell Crab, and Crispy Rolls. The atmosphere is lovely too. Lots of beautiful plants.
I have eaten here several times. Finally great Vietnamese food in Ft. Greene! I used to eat at the Soho location in the 90's - glad to see Brian is still going strong. The food is excellent - my fave is the Street Noodles.
The food here is great. I love the pho, vermicelli with pork, and street noodles. It’s never crowded because the street signage makes the place appear to be permanently closed.
Always an enjoyable experience here! Not the absolute best pho I've ever had but it is always good and more flavorful than many places - probably one of my favorites in Brooklyn. Servers are friendly although sometimes when it's busy can be a little bit inattentive. Very comfortable atmosphere.
Best pho i ever, staff super great. Would love to come again. Owner was a cute Lil asian man :)
A Vietnamese treasure tucked away in Fort Greene, MeKong BK offers authentic dishes along with the best tasting beef PHO that I’ve ever had in my life. The restaurant sticks true to what makes it great, home cooked Vietnamese classics that are prepared to perfection. One of my favorite choices for casual date night, solo dinners, or whenever you’re craving delicious PHO.
best restaurant for dine-in in the area by far. love the simple outdoor table setup / doesn't have one of those ugly enclosed shacks. it's actually just nice outdoor cafe seating. the food is amazing -- see for yourself.
Mekong is a really good, reliable restaurant that has amazing pho and menu really good sides plus the atmosphere is very welcoming and zen. The staff are very kind and cooperative too.
Mekong is probably one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in New York. I highly recommend the pho it has a lot of flavor, and the beef goes best with it.With that you should definitely get the spicy chicken wing because the sauce they put on it is one of a kind. For a side also get the spring rolls. I’ve been a chef for many years and they have mastered making the spring rolls. It’s hard to make them because if it’s not tight when you fry it will bubble explode.Definitely go to Mekong if you want a good meal.
Just moved to the neighborhood and love Vietnamese food (former Houston & SF resident). We shared the grilled prawns (incredible and great value), and I had pho and friends had the roasted pork Vermicelli. We were all gushing about our meals. The pho was as good as any I’ve had in nyc, they brought me a ton of diced jalapeno on request. Staff were awesome. Definitely a vibe. Will be going back often
Delicious. Love the Iron Pot Chicken Lemongrass Curry, rich flavor, a little spice will return for this dish regularly. Summer rolls are well done, water spinach is very nice, grilled pork also well executed. Very happy with this place. A little pricey but given location and execution worth it for the premium.
Went to Mekong BK for the first time yesterday and I already know this will quickly become a favorite in my restaurant rotation. Was immediately greeted by the two servers and chose to dine at the bar. The overall vibe is inviting and cozy and somewhere I would want to hang out for a while. Harlie the bartender was amazing and suggested a lychee martini when I was unsure of what to order. AMAZING! I ordered spring rolls and the farmer egg noodles and everything came out quickly and to perfection. Was checked on by multiple staff members to ensure I was doing okay throughout my meal. Nicole the server was very friendly and gave me local recommendations because I am new in town. Overall incredible experience from the vibe, staff, food and drinks!!
I came here last Sunday for a solo dinner at the bar… wow! I have been thinking about the meal ever since! I ordered a Pho and the chicken wings. Both were delicious. The staff was lovely. It was very cute inside. I will be back ASAP.
The food was great, especially for a vegetarian. The meat eaters seemed happy to. Points off for service because of a staff snafu and how it was handled.
Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. I've eaten at Pho 79 in Orange Country (CA) and other places. The Beef Pho at Mekong is perhaps the best I've ever had in the United States. It's a strong and clear broth. The brisket is tender and juicy. I also recommend the chicken wings as an appetizer and the pork chops as a main dish. The filet mignon as well as the tartar also also extremely good! The people who run it are super nice and the music is great without being overwhelming. Can't wait to go back there.
Stopped in for the fresh summer rolls, beef tartare, and Asahi on draft. Both dishes were excellent - super fresh and the beef tartare was seasoned wonderfully with ginger & cilantro. Raul was really friendly & attentive and the vibes were on point. Can’t wait to return!
If you're in New York and craving Vietnamese food, head to Mekong. Their pho with beef is flavorful, the spicy chicken wings are a must-try, and the spring rolls are crispy perfection. Trust me, you'll be delighted you went – the food is absolutely delicious! 😋
This place is excellent, the spring rolls are a must try. I like that they don't use the crispy flaky skin the skin they use on it is very different and delicious! The flavors of the few dishes we had were very good and tasted very fresh! It's not your standard take out quick Vietnamese joint. I'll be back when the weather is cooler to try the Pho but try other stuff on the menu! It's excellent. They also deliver and apparently their business is high in delivery because with the semi empty restaurant we we're in they were busy still and waitress even apologized for the wait on the food (it wasn't that long) because they had a high volume of delivery orders. I'll be back here to try more foods off the menu.
Mekong is THE BEST! Truly excellent food - just incredibly flavorful and overall great experience. The Iron Pot Lemongrass Curry is mind-blowing! The ambiance (when indoor dining was a thing) is gorgeous as well. Perfect date spot. Highly recommend it!
Ordered delivery on a Saturday night (now that we're all stuck inside) through Seamless. The order came exactly when promised and was still hot (a rarity these days). The calamari and spring rolls were both exceptionally good—given that these are hard to perfect for delivery, I gave top marks on this point alone. The banh mi sandwich was just as good as when I tried it at the restaurant last year. Delivery: quick. Food: delicious. Solid, reliable option. 5 stars.
Pho is fantastic! So much flavor. I'd have to say the best that I've tried. Street noodles are awesome as well.
One of the best Viet spots in Ny. Borned and raised ind Vietnam and this fills the void of thr lack of Vietnamese food in NYC. A Regular spot for me
My favorite Viet res tbh. I moved back to LA and we’ve got some pretty decent spots, but nothing compares to Mekong!!
Mekong is a neighborhood favorite of mine. And with their extensive menu and very helpful staff, no matter the season I always find something that really hits the spot. In the winter, the Iron Pot Lemongrass Curry w/ Tofu is such delicious comfort food. In the warmer months, I like doing the Bun vermicelli w/ pork and Khanh Hoa Farmer's Egg Noodles as a one-two punch. You'll also notice that Mekong has one of the coolest interiors of any restaurant in the neighborhood. This place just oozes a welcoming and comforting vibe that you will be in no hurry to leave.
The pho was incredible. Went here with my family and friends. It’s one of my favorite spots to go to in the city! Staff was friendly and the food was delicious😋
Update: they refunded me, appreciate it! One of the waiters told me tip wasn’t included but actually it was so I was double charged - annoying. Pho was ok, banh mi was great.
The best spot in the neighborhood for an easy delicious meal. Great vibes for dining in and I also order their chicken pho whenever I’m sick. Service and staff is excellent and friendly. Just a perfect cozy establishment!
The Pho is great. The owner puts great emphasis on quality and service. The bartender is not aware of this. He is rude. My recommendation: order take-out for delivery rather than pick up and eat where the waitress is serving you. All interactions with the bartender should be avoided. I noted that I ate for dine-in but I have eaten here for dine-in, take-out, and delivery and will say that the food is always the same level of good.
Nice atmosphere for a place with standard Vietnamese fare. Prices were a bit high, but you're paying for the atmosphere, location, and good food. Pork chops were delicious. I enjoyed the tenderness and charring. The wrapper for the spring rolls had an interesting texture. They reminded me of a Chinese crispy birds nest but more delicate. The team serving us were attentive and efficient.
Wow super delicious pho and impressed with the authenticity of the food. I always lived close by but never got a chance to try and I’m still thinking about the pho! Such a delicious place as the weather gets cold. Note: it’s definitely not a standard “pho” place, the wait will be longer and reservations are necessary. Staff is nice.
Great Vietnamese spot in Fort Greene! We stopped in for lunch around 2pm on a Sunday and there was plenty of space for walk-ins. It can be busy at night, especially on weekends, so going for lunch was perfect. We ordered the crispy spring rolls, beef pho (which they split in two bowls for us) and the bahn mi sandwich. All were great and we left very full. Service was very quick and just what we needed on a cold afternoon. Excited to come back to try other items!
Love this place. There are so many options, and all dishes that we got were delicious and had fairly big portions, reasonable price. I loved the vegetarian fried spring rolls—the filling texture was very meat-like. As well as the iron pot lemongrass curry—the blend of flavors are perfect! My husband also gobbled up his coconut chicken curry. Would highly recommend this place!
Nestled among the chic restaurants of Fort Greene, Mekong BK stands out as my preferred choice, focusing on a genuine culinary experience rather than relying on flashy interiors and branding. The restaurant's charm lies in its commitment to consistently delivering high-quality food. From the crisp calamari au beurre with its savory lemon pepper sauce to the tender fillet mignon paired with watercress and a special sauce, each dish speaks volumes about the authenticity and dedication to flavor. The beef tartare, featuring a hint of ginger, adds a unique touch to the menu. Mekong BK invites you to savor the real experience, where the focus is on the menu's delightful offerings rather than superficial aesthetics. And, of course, the Vietnamese coffee is a must-try, rounding off this unpretentious yet extraordinary dining experience.
Good food and nice ppl who works there. I especially like the spring roll with vermicelli entree. I usually order that, never been disappointed, it’s always consistent. Service can be a little off sometimes but it’s good enough in general.
Chased out of South Village, like so many people, by skyrocketing rents (a much more expensive restaurant now in its place), Mekong kept its food and corner entrance constant. Pretty tasty. Pho was tame and simple, but beef tartar was spicy and quite memorable. No decent draft beers, unfortunately.
If Mekong BK’s door is not open right at 12:30 on Sunday, do not dismay or give up! It’s worth the wait, and our host/server seated us before the kitchen was open even though the staff had a late start. They managed to serve our big party of 15 in a timely manner, our dishes coming out close to the same time. My Hanoi Vermicelli was delicious, as was the Vietnamese coffee. This was my first visit but I will be going back very soon! So glad to have a great Vietnamese place in the neighborhood.
Great, cozy, intimate place which has a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options. I only give 4 stars because Vietnamese spring rolls are my favorite type of rolls and theirs were not made with the authentic Vietnamese rice paper who gives an uneven crispy golden brown on the outside. Theirs looked like and tasted like regular spring rolls. It was let down but the service was great, so was the atmosphere; my entree, Crispy seitan with bamboo rice was delicious. I would go back.
This is my spot. The crispy rolls are iconic. The beef pho does the job
Enjoyed the overall meal, we had the summer rolls, chicken wings, papaya salad and spring roll bun. Thought everything was delicious but the summer rolls were a bit underwhelming, the sauce seemed under seasoned. We loved the atmosphere and general lighting and decor.
My search for the best bun cha in New York continues. . . I have no idea why they call this "Hanoi-style vermicelli" when it's closer to Saigon's bun thit nuong than Hanoi's bun cha. Regardless, this is one of the most Americanized takes I've seen on a dish at a Vietnamese restaurant. The sauce tasted more like a diluted and salty rendition of sweet chili sauce than nuoc cham; heavy on the umami, maybe from MSG. It wasn't a bad dish, but it also wasn't reminiscent of anything you'd find in Hanoi (or anywhere else in Vietnam). The server forgot my iced coffee, so I don't have anything to share about it. I did like the planty aesthetic of the dining room. As long as you temper your expectations, it's not a bad choice.
Pho and port rib are great! But they do charge extra fee if you use CC without communication, so be careful.
The beef broth for the pho was very good, but the portions could have been bigger for the price. And please add some kind of chili pepper as an accompaniment!
Nice spot with pretty good food. Portions were on the smaller side, and I felt the price wasn’t really justified — you can find similar or even better food for the same price or less elsewhere. That said, no real complaints, the food tasted good overall and the experience was fine.
Pros: Food came out quickly and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant is really nice. The Country Salmon was delicious, if a touch too spicy. Cons: The Beef Bone Broth Pho was very bland, even with added hoisin and sriracha.
Great spot for Vietnamese cuisine, really enjoyed this place. Some notes on the ambiance… the light, temperature, and music were all PERFECT, very enjoyable to be dining in there! I loved the Crispy fried Spring Rolls and the Marinated Pork Ribs (appetizers)! So tasty and flavorful. I didn’t personally love the Beef Pho but others in the party did - I think it was lacking a lil flavor 🫣. The Ca Phe Sua Da for dessert was deeeeliiiiiicccccious, highly recommend. I will come back just to try their other desserts. Papaya shrimp salad is super light and refreshing if you’re not trying to eat anything heavy. The menu has ample vegetarian options.
I recently tried the Pho & crispy roll here. The soup was delicious, with a rich and flavorful broth that I couldn't resist. I consumed every last drop of it. The beef was tender, albeit with a slight aroma of rawness. The noodles provided a satisfying texture to the dish. The crispy roll was absolutely tasty. Overall, it was great.
Atmosphere was nice and quaint, but there downfall was the food was not good. I got the beef pho and ice coffee. The pho tasted bland and the meat was way to over cook and honestly the wrong meat for traditional pho. The coffee just tasted off.
Ordered Viet Coffee and it was burned. I could only take a sip and it tasted awful. The grinds were also in the cup so 😵. Had the beef pho, I'd say if you haven't had much experience with pho this might be alright, but if you're like me and have grown up eating pho in more low-scale, authentic restaurants, this might come across as lacking a bit in the flavor and size of the bowl department. Not bad if you're craving pho and there are no better options nearby, but I wouldn't exactly come out of my way to eat here again.
This review is solely on the pho. Amazing broth but the bowl is very shallow and small for 17 dollars. Also the meat was very well done. Overall satisfied but left still hungry.
In summary: Meh. So I ordered five items on a Whim just killing some time awaiting a friend. Bok Choy w/hoisin: 1/5 as it was not actually served or cooked with hoisin, just steamed with butter/soy flavor. Fresh Summer rolls: 4/5, they were fresh indeed, but the sauce was pretty bland. All in all I enjoyed the roll sauceless. Calimari: 4/5, delicious, fresh but unfortunately served with a plain butter sauce which was odd. 2 Whisky & gingers: 5/5 fairly easy to not mess up. All in all, save your money and order from somewhere else. The service was very abrupt and didn’t check on us at all, we had to call the restaurant from outside to request what we wanted tableside. Ambience is nice so 3/5 is fair, but food wasn’t amazing.
My wife had a noodle dish that was very good. My son had a beef soup that I would rate good, but I have had better. My daughter in law had a lemon grass dish that was okay but bland. My son added a ton of pepper sauce to his. My tea was served nicely. The service was very polite, but a little slow. Chicken wings were good and crispy.
I was really looking forward to finally trying this place after passing by so many times. The beef pho was pretty good but i wish it had come with a little more hoisin and Sriracha sauce on the side. The summer rolls weren't that great, they didnt taste that fresh, the one had a single shrimp in it and the peanut sauce they came with didn't have much flavor to it. I guess I just expected way more for $30. The atmosphere seemed nice while I was picking up my order and the guy working behind the counter was friendly enough. There's not many Vietnamese places in the area so if you're craving pho this place will hit the spot just at a bit of a higher cost than you may be used to at similar establishments.
Glad to see this place in the neighborhood. I hope the service improves after a grace period. Pho was decent and agree portion smaller compared to other places. Spring rolls also tasty. Service needs overhaul: Walked in and no staff present for five minutes despite customers inside. Served drink in dirty glass and when I asked for clean glass, waiter poured into new one but never said anything. Needs to get more staff and some etiquette training. Also check the bill before leaving as mistakes seem common.
If you’re in search of a restaurant with a casual and laid-back vibe, this spot is definitely worth checking out. That said, the pho is just average. If you’re a true pho enthusiast, you might want to explore other options for a more authentic bowl.
Size does matter 😊 Having a craving for Vietnamese food I noticed Mekong BK in one of my walks and got in with an anticipation. I ordered the Spring rolls that looked exactly like the ones I had in Hoi Ann. The rolls tasted great, I could probably use more lettuce to get them all wrapped. Next came the Pho Bo. Pho with beef. The pho tasted great but the portion was really small especially considering its price. All in all I liked the food but a little more lettuce and broth would have made me much happier. How much could the actual cost of these items to the restaurant be? Why not make your customers happy, especially since previous reviewers have mentioned the same concern.
So, coming from SF Bay Area, I've been a bit spoiled by how much great vietnamese food there was around me. This place to me in comparison to the Viet food in SF was just ok, although my girlfriend enjoyed it and would give it a 4/5. We both got the beef pho, and it was a tiny bit sweeter than I would have wanted, and it just wasn't savory enough for me. I probably wouldn't go back, but my gf probably would.
Objectively, this is not good Pho or Viet food. I avoid this place even when I am nostalgic and craving my mom’s bowl of pho or Viet dishes that I grew up with. It feels like they are cooking from a Vietnamese cook book they bought from Barnes and Nobles 15 years ago. They tailor the flavor profile to a more North Eastern American taste which is fine but there are better restaurants nearby that do it well. Like Lucys, banh mi place, and Mama Pho.
Initial encounter: My family and I went out for a late lunch, my wife, my 2yo daughter and my 10month old son. As soon as we walked, the two guys who worked there only look at us, holding the door and the stroller with kids. Then we told them that we had a reservation, and escorted to our table with so much in a rush, the place wasnt even half full. If I remember correctly, it only had 4 tables with 2 people each that were seated. Despite the reservation we made to let them know in advance that we needed 2 high chairs, it wasn't ready and had to wait about extra 10minutes for it. Appetizer: We ordered 1 order of calamari, 2 orders of spring rolls, and 1 order of marinated chicken on a stick. They were all so good in terms of taste to our liking, the prices were a bit high for a vietnamese restaurant, but I could say it was worth the try. Main dish: We got 1 order of pho, 1 order of salt and pepper shrimps, and 1 order of grilled pork chop. Again, everything was good! It was expensive for the proportion they are serving compared to other 5-star reviews Vietnamese restaurants we visited. Bathroom: It was okay, with motion detect red light as their main light, seems odd for me to have the bathroom light color red. Make me feel that the light is trying to hide something that the red light can hide. No designated changing station for babies, soap was available for handwashing. Service: This is actually the main part of the review, despite of the good food they had. The service was horrible, everytime we ask for something like a spoon and fork for my daughter, or ordering additional things, they always try to not let me finish what Im asking or saying and tries to walk away with haste, and again its not busy. By the time we were eating and everything it was down to 4 tables left including us. They served the food quick though, that I applaud. Also, when we were about to leave, we were told to leave on the other entrance/exit door, as so we did, we were kind fo struggling to open the door with our hands full of the stroller, to go food, bags, and kids. One of the guys was just standing there looking, not helping even with minimal effort, until we were half way out of the door that leads to a few steps up the staircase, the guys held the door for us and saw us struggling with the stroller, I picked up the strolled with my son in it whole holding my daughter in the other hand, then the stroller detached to its pieces causing the stroller and the baby separate, my wife was holding the stroller on the other side with the togo food, with a cup of hot water. The guy who held the door just looked at us struggling, and closed the door like he didn't even care. That's what struck me, for an Asian restaurant and everything, the service was horrible. Conclusion: Im not expecting for help all the time from these guys working. However, we were struggling that almost caused an accident that a minimal assistance might have prevented it, the hospitability and compassion weren't there, for my family and I. It was a big turn off, even though their food was good. PS: I still tipped 20% as I feel accustomed to in NYC. But never seen any remorse or feeling of wanting to serve us on those guys.
I was excited to try out but I guess I picked wrong items.. the person serving our table was pretty strict with roles which another person seem like in a higher position came to help eventually.. but we already didn’t need it anymore. The crab and tomato soup noodles.. I DONT RECOMMEND. The soup was a clear soup with sliced tomato that didn’t match together. The weird meat balls got sands-like ingredients inside. Crab meat were invisible with only little shreds. Iced Vietnamese coffee was watery.
Not only the most expensive pho I've ever had, but also the smallest bowl. No hot peppers, broth was mediocre. Because small bowl size, the noodle broth ratio is off. If you want good pho, go somewhere else
Not sure about the other (paid?) reviewers. But this was by far the worse, most bland Beef Pho I've ever had anywhere in the world. Broth is basically tap water cooked with a few cloves. Noodles have a strange old aftertaste and the beef (or lack there of) was just two slices that I'm yet to find in the bowl. I think they melted in there.
Ordered their Seafood soup for $16 with barely any seafood. Only a few pieces of Salmon and chopped REALLY small pieces of squid. Don't waste your money here. JJ's Kitchen on Myrtle is much better especially if you're into seafood.
Such a disappointment - time after time. Food is good, but every single time (really) they mess up our order. Either something is missing altogether, or I end up with something completely different than what I ordered. And I don’t realize until I am home and too lazy to go back. I really need to stop trying, but it’s conveniently located and the only Vietnamese place in the neighborhood. Food is good (when it’s what I ordered), but it’s horrendously overpriced and the staff is quite rude. Would advise you skip this place.
The food is great and I usually have a great time here. I come here to get their sandwich, which is delicious . My issue is the fact that I come here often and I know what things cost. Today I came in for the lunch special (1:35pm) as usual and the person who took my order charged me regular price. I tried explaining to him and he made up a story about having 3 computer systems and that the one he was using didn't charge lunch specials it's only charges full dinner price. I have never had this issue. I even pointed it out in the menu. I decided to not argue and just pay his made up price. I will not be coming here anymore. If you have a set price at a certain time you shouldn't be changing it.
The food was mediocre and the service was bad. The marinated chicken appetizer had a rubbery texture. The pho was fine but I’ve had much better pho at half the cost. Then they charged for a coke refill without letting us know it would cost extra. It’s rare that I have a bad restaurant experience but this really felt like a waste of money. Definitely not going back.
The owner is extremely rude and told us to read the menu faster when my friend was trying to order food. When I asked in details what kind of slices of meat he offer for the pho since most pho restaurant (authentic ones anyway) serves different kind of parts like brisket, tripes, etc. He rudely said only “beef and chicken what else do you want?”. The owner obviously have a huge narcissistic problem of having his face plastered around the restaurant. The food was super dumbed and washed down to satisfy the clueless residents living around there thinking it’s actually Vietnamese food. Seriously worst experience ever, all that ego for the food just to be mid! Sad!
Be careful when eating here. They have unethical practices. We ate here 2 days ago and the bill was $47 and I tipped $10. okay. 2 days later i receieve a notification from my bank asking "did you tip 40% at Mekong BK?" so aparently they went back to my receipt/bill and changed the tip to whatever they liked. Just based on principles, i hate this establishment and i hope it burns down. If i didnt get a notification from my credit card/bank they would've gotten away with tip changing. screw this place. The food was expensive and the portion was for half a person. the coffee was trash, watered down and unfiltered. and again when you eat here make sure 2 days later they dont steal from you by adding extra tip. they hope you dont catch it.
They lied to us about the tip, they said gratuity was not included on our check so I tipped 20%. But we asked for the receipt and there was already a tip included in the bill, so they made us tip twice without knowing. Also they were very rude.
Just ensure you ask for receipt! We were double charged for tips and informed gratuity not included (group of 4).
My Thai Basil was very whelped/discolored.. The broth wasn't flavorful it was rather light for it to be beef based, also they put my shrimp in the hot broth, for a to-go order about time I got home my shrimp was so overcooked it was unbearable to eat. I pho least two to three times out of the month I know a good bowl of pho and this is not it..
Food was fine. Not great. A bit over priced. $250 for 3 people. The service was awful! Waited 25 minutes for a drink. We had a 6:30 reservation. At 7:50 we were told we had 20 min because they needed the table. My son was not finished with his dinner and they tried to take it away. 10 minutes later the waitress came with the credit card machine to pay our bill. I asked if it said anywhere that tables were limited to 90 minutes and waitress just said “ I am the messenger. I don”t know.” We have never had an experience like this anywhere before. Awful! Not relaxing. Just stressful!
Was looking forward to dining here for lunch (they open at 1pm on Sundays). We got there at 1pm and it appeared not to be open. After waiting with other customers for about 10mins, they finally opened the door (just unlocked, they didn't open it for us). No greeting, just bluntly asked 'How Many'. We told the manager 4 people, but he refused to allow our service dog inside. My service dog is a small, well trained service animal. He is trained to detect seizures before they happen. I explained that he is a service dog and the manager said 'The owner doesnt allow any dog'. This a violation of federal law under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to not allow a service dog in any public area. The manager told us we can sit outside, but as it is 1pm on a very sunny summer afternoon - the outside patio is simply too hot for myself, my kids and my service dog. There is no awning, umbrellas or shade. It was such an uninviting and unaccommodating experience, we decided to dine elsewhere. It's a shame as I usually don't write these kinds of reviews. Normally we eat Vietnamese food regularly in Brooklyn and live nearby. It's a shame we has this experience. We will not come again.
