Roman's Brooklyn Reviews
so good my favorite local dinner at the bar alone joint, fantastic; some times my ears do ring after on account of all that tile wouldn’t change a thing
It was such a treat to dine at Roman's in mid-October. I came on a rainy night, and the soft glow inside was inviting and warm. All of the food was delightful to the senses and DELICIOUS. It would be hard to pick a favorite thing from the menu, since it was all so good (and since their menu updates all the time), but my table couldn't stop eating the Fava Bean Puree. All hail Chef Hannah and her team! Not for nothing, it's also really nice to support an establishment that's committed to making the industry more sustainable for all who work in it. Thank you so much for a wonderful special occasion dinner--I hope to return!
Romans is an absolutely phenomenal restaurant in the heart of Fort Greene. Emily and Fernando hosted us for an exceptional meal and evening. The menu is inventive and changes regularly. The execution with the fresh ingredients on Roman flavors can stand up to any restaurant in the city.
1st: Everything was great! The experience demonstrates that they are doing things well because they care! Food was delicious! Drinks were great! Staff was gracious! 2nd: We dined at Roman's, and it was an experience worth sharing. The ambiance of the restaurant is both cozy and elegant, with its beautifully lit chandeliers and warm, inviting decor. From the menu, I had the fava bean puree and linguine, which were both absolutely delicious. The fava bean puree had a wonderful texture and flavor, while the linguine with baccala, onions, and capers was perfectly cooked and incredibly tasty. Additionally, we tried the striped bass, which was a delightful dish, cooked to perfection with a great balance of flavors. What truly made the experience memorable was the staff. They were gracious, generous, and friendly, going out of their way to make us feel welcome. Their attentiveness was especially appreciated as we had our toddler with us, and they were wonderfully accommodating and kind. Overall, Roman's offers not only excellent food but also an atmosphere of genuine hospitality. It's a place where you can enjoy a fantastic meal while feeling completely at ease.
Got a res & sat at the bar for two on a Saturday. Not loud, enough space to not feel cramped, great space. Ordered the flank steak and scallop entrees, and olives as the starter. I cannot make this up, the scallop dish was one of the best dishes I’ve had in NYC. The sweetness of the scallop, matching with the salty-citrus broth it came with… WOW! Bring it back! Cabbage, mushrooms, and sweet potato was great too. Very, VERY happy about this dish. Flank steak was also very good, the steak was cooked perfectly, and the chimichurri sauce was very good. It was accompanied by a flavorful & elevated rice and beans. Didn’t wow me, but you can taste the quality and flavor. Drinks great, and the warmed olives are yummy.
Worth the hype. Nothing to complain about at all. Loved my cocktail (Coppa D’oro essentially an olive oil washed martini that made me with all gin martinis were this). Loved all the food. The Fava bean puree was even enjoyed by my 10 month old (can we get some snaps for restaurants with high chairs). The only thing making me upset is that we’ve been living the fort green for 3 years and this was our first visit.
LOVE. Couldn’t decide so we did all three of the pastas, and the 3 ppl at the table all found a different favorite. Every pasta dish was amazing and their drinks were interesting + refreshing. I personally didn’t love the tomato-y martini drink but it was still nice to sip. Between food/drinks (1-2 rounds) we spent $100/pp
The food was delicious and fresh. Peas are in season and they used a lot of it, tasted so fresh. My favorite was they whipped ricotta. None of the dishes are over seasons or doused with sauce, so the ingredients really stand out. Only complaint was the place was small and which I don’t mind but sound wise it was really loud with everyone talking around us.
Haven’t been here in years, and not really sure why, this place outstanding. Food was excellent and service was great. We sat at the bar and the bartender was exceptional. Started out with the prosciutto and arancini, which were both amazing, then Had the fava and pea pasta spaghetti and the fusilli with meat sauce. The star was the fava and pea spaghetti hands down. It was light and delicious. Only small con, I wish they gave more bread considering get it from their sister bakery. I will be visiting again in the near future.
Awesome find. Don't be put off by the slightly shabby exterior. Inside you'll find sleek white and dark wood interior. From the limited lunch menu I had the roasted beats and faro. Although not a large portion it was delicious. Super friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended it.
Roman's features a daily-changing menu that highlights fresh, local ingredients in italian-leaning dishes occasionally underpinned by classical french techniques. One if the most impressive meals I've had in a while just based on the technical execution of a difficult menu with the added challenge of changing it daily! To complement the meal is a variety of Italian aperitivi and a great wine selection. I tried an orange wine for the first time and was in awe. Service is great - they got us in an out for our show at BAM in about an hour - and gratuity is included. Will go back for the $75 chef's tasting menu when we have a bit more time.
weekly family dinner club nite ... hyper local neighborhood version ... good service.great meal.capped by amaro by car headlight. one happy pappy. kudos to staff as i left a d.i.y. camera on the table that at most places would have wound up in the trash but here wound up in the shirt pocket of a busy server. thanks again.
a lovely dinner on a rainy day in BK! the restaurant was decently packed when we got there for an early dinner. the place had a nice ambiance too. we started with a Daily Sour and a glass of red. we got the following to try: -arancini verde: piping hot, crunchy on the outside, and cheesy/melty on the inside. a great start to our meal! -paccheri with squid, chickpeas, and peppers: al dente pasta with squid, chickpeas, and peppers in a slightly tangy sauce. it seemed like an unlikely pairing but everything fits. -chicken diavolo: huuuuuuge half chicken, served with roasted potatoes and broccolini. it was juicy and perfectly seasoned. the chicken is bone-in tho, something worth noting. service was attentive but not intrusive. a pretty solid meal in BK.
Roman’s is very cozy. A date here would make a lot of sense. If it’s not a romantic night out it can be a little too dark. The ambient is beautiful though. I loved my drink and definitely would recommend the fava bean puree as an appetizer and the panna cotta as dessert (best panna cotta ever). I would skip the caneloni I ordered.
Roman’s Est. 2009 Layout/atmosphere *Marble bar area (10 stools); ten tables all in one room; candlelight; tables on sidewalk [Actor Dave Foley was seated at the bar with a guest] Service *Good Food/drink *Burrata, tomatoes, nectarines, and basil (with complimentary bread) - the burrata was good, I liked the nectarines but the remaining accompaniments didn’t impress *Mezzi rigatoni, ‘nduja, and corn - pasta was fresh, sauce was light but didn’t impress
The food was fine, but uneven. Some of the swordfish in the pasta was dry, some was good. The tomato salad was okay, it didn't do much with the tomato. The black bass was really good, tender and crispy outside, and the dressing really lifted the flavors. I felt the waitress was rushing me. She stood by the table while I was taking the last portion of the salad, and she took the plates twice literally while I was eating. The place looked nice, but it was extremely loud. Even though loud is the sad trend in NYC now, the noise level here was off the charts and for that reason alone I can't recommend it, but adding the bad service, I really don't want to be back.
If I could rate as a zero I would. I complained about one dish (while complimenting others) and they gaslighted me, saying that others loved the dish and they really didn’t understand why I didn’t like it. The manager then claimed that I said “I was happy to eat it…” and that’s why they didn’t take it off the bill. Overall, the servers created an extremely unpleasant evening by arguing with me and saying that I said things I did not say.
