Rice & Miso Brooklyn Reviews
The miso soup is totally vegan (no katsuo fish flake) and DELICIOUS. The staff who work here are also incredibly kind. It is a very adorable shop as well. I got the sweet corn grilled rice ball and it was also DELICIOUS. Cold Japanese tea (I got Mugi) was also excellent. I can’t leave more stars than 5, otherwise I would.
Such a quaint little space! The food was amazing and the service was just as awesome. I ordered an iced sencha, a beef onigiri & some edamame and everything tasted just right. I also specified my allergy and one of the workers came to assure me they’d be changing the equipment to avoid cross contamination and for that, I am extremely grateful. Would definitely make the 1-1/2 hour train ride down here again.
Rice and Miso is a Brooklyn delight! From friendly staff to affordable and delicious rice balls, it’s an awesome place to go if you want a quick treat.
One of my favorite places for eat, super convenient and easy for grab and go or chill, casual sit down meal… super clean and healthy but also super tasty, not lacking in flavor at all. Many great vegan options for sides and chicken or fish that it also seasoned well, very filling and satisfying but light enough to go back to work, get back on the mission. Big shouts and big love to Chef Peezie and Mika! They do it right every time! Always leave charged up and in a great mood! Can’t thank them enough, overdue for a visit!
The food is excellent. The space is small and crowded during lunch, but take out works just fine.
Incredible little place for a quick, healthy, perfectly filling meal. It seems like a weird location but it's easy to get to. I had the tofu bento box, which comes with two sides, and two onigiri. For the onigiri I had an original and an ume one. They were incredible. Sometimes onigiri can be dry, or you don't get some of the filling in each bite but these were perfect. The rice wasn't dry at all but was properly sticky and almost creamy. Also the ume wasn't just a pickled plum, it was a great tart paste. For a drink I got the yuzu koshi. It tasted like a very light yuzu soda; not too sweet, and not too carbonated. It was really refreshing and delicious so make sure to try it! Will definitely be returning here.
Amazing quick service spot that serves delicious rice balls and simple, light lunch fare. Each of the bento box options here are perfectly balanced in portion size and flavor. The orders also come with the choice of a couple of small appetizers, which are usually some form of vegetables marinated to perfection. Only heads up I'd give is that the rice balls use brown rice instead of white rice. I like white rice usually, but these are good anyway. Just don't be surprised.
Lovely little shop with delicious chewy rice. The beef rice balls are especially good. The bento boxes are also great and they package the food nicely for takeout. Only complaint is that I wish they were open even until early evening so that I could pick up for dinner.
High quality - delicious and nutritious- a rare feat. The chicken bento box with the lemon scallion sauce is tops. All sides are great but I’m partial to the green beans and squash. The beef and original onigiris are flavorful. Great lunch spot.
I don't usually like tofu but theirs is really good! So are the rice balls - especially the beef one. And the lightly cucumbers and radishes are so good. Staff is always friendly. Not much seating available - just two tables. They seem to do a lot of takeout business so the wait for your order can feel long. Full vegan meal available.
i love this place deeply. -enough filling (which is hard to find) -slightly salty rice (makes non-filling bites exceptional instead of necessary) -perfect crispy seaweed paper -great environment, delicious teas, nice selection of sides and snacks i just went to japan and made it my mission to find comparable onigiri. of course some were amazing but all made me excited to come home to rice and miso ❤️❤️
Charming clean place. I got a chicken bento box and a barley tea. Service was fast and excellent. The plum rice ball was particularly nice and the chicken was tender. I feel comforted and restored. Thanks!
Small and serene spot for nice healthy and delicious lunch. I get their tofu bento box. Their rice balls are very good and so are all the salads. My particular favorite are cauliflower, Wakame and hijiki salads! But pretty much everything is really good so you can’t go wrong.
After eating lunch here, I feel like a better person. I'm making good decisions, eating nourishing things that are tasty in a balanced way, rather than being full of fat, salt and sugar to overload my tastebuds and mask sub-par ingredients. I'm pretty sure this food can cure cancer. Their tea is great. All the rice balls are great (my favorite is the tuna mayo), the soups are hearty, satisfying and clean. The little brown rice krispie treats are not cloyingly sweet or greasy, I basically just love everything here!
the brown rice ball was chewy with just the right amount of bite! While the seasoning was spot-on—subtle yet flavorful. It was the perfect combination of healthy and delicious. Filling was not too heavy, great for a quick snack. 🍣 🍙 salmon and tuna mayo was by far the fave beef and scallion miso was okay.
The bento box portions are fantastic for the price. The quality of the ingredients is perfect, the flavor is on point, and I feel quite joyful having been here. Perfect for a satisfying lunch and quick tea. Note: they only have oat milk for the lattes so if that’s not your speed be aware; however, the iced barley tea is refreshing as is so if you are here during the summer months it’s worth it!!! Love this place, highly recommend
Such a gem! I’m vegetarian, so I’m always looking for spots that feel nourishing AND delicious — & Rice & Miso totally delivers. Their scallion miso rice ball is my go-to, the tofu is unreal, & even the miso soup (which I don’t usually love) is starting to win me over 👀 You get a full bento + miso soup for around $20, & I always leave feeling so good. Only thing to note is the space is pretty small, so I’d have a backup spot nearby (like the park!) if you’re planning to eat in 🧡
Finally got a chance to get lunch here this afternoon. I got the chicken bento box, which comes in a small takeaway container and has a protein, two rice balls, and two sides. It is deceiving because it is definitely very filling, comes with more chicken than shown in the picture (was under the sides and balls) I was a little worried because some of the reviews said the flavors were lacking, however, as someone who loves overly flavored food, I can say the food delivered! Did not seem under seasoned at all. I got the Ume plum paste and the scallion rice balls, both were delicious and had flavor throughout. The chicken was so delicious, can tell they have it marinating in the sauce for a while. I got the Gomaae and Hijiki for sides, both were great. Overall highly recommend! Cute quaint neighborhood spot!
Came in as I was visiting the Boreum Hill area and caught them right before they closed at 4pm. The lady running the front was so kind and still let me enjoy the Bento Box inside while they closed up! I got the Bento Box Chicken. $18. Comes with grilled chicken with scallion with choice of 2 Rice Balls and 2 Sides. I had the Original (Miso Paste) and the Tuna Mayo Rice Balls with sides of Hijiki and Gamme. So filling, delicious and nutritious! What more could you want from the perfect lunch box! 💯
Cute little place! Hours aren’t always the most convenient, but check them out if you come across them. Fresh and delicious grilled rice balls. Very chic decor. Good quality and reasonable price.
I absolutely love this place. I got the bento Box with 2 sides and a main protein and an extra bowl of miso soup and everything was amazing. I was just really happy with everything that I got and I will definitely be coming here again.
the flavors of each part of the bento box are distinct and tasty! Highly recommend the chicken and all the sides looked great. The tuna onigiri was better than salmon. The latte was decent but probably not worth the price.
Staff was super patient and kind while my friend & I were deciding our orders for around ~10 minutes. Food was exceptionally delicious! I ordered the Atsuage Tofu (厚揚げ 豆腐) Bento Box (including Miso Soup) with Original & Tuna Mayo onigiris with a side of Edamame (枝豆) (Steamed Soybeans) & Tsukemono (漬物) (Pickled Veggies)! My friend also ordered an Atsuage Tofu (厚揚げ 豆腐) Bento Box with the Basic & Original onigiris with a side of Gomaae (胡麻和え) & Summer Salad (French Radishes & Cucumbers). Onigiris are best handmade and these were NOT disappointing in the slightest. I initially believed it wouldn't be filling but I was stuffed - I could barely finish the last onigiri! Also ordered a cold Hojicha (焙じ茶) with my food & it was super refreshing. Being a tea enthusiast, I wasn't expecting much out of the tea because most places usually brew the tea way too long but this one was perfect! The cashier forgot my Hojicha since it became quite busy all of a sudden (so I understood why), but when I told her she apologized for her forgetfulness & immediately made my drink. Super pleased with the food & service here! I will be coming back soon 💞 P.S. The miso soup has mushrooms in it. I love mushrooms, but my friend does not so just a heads up!
This small and quaint restaurant is ideal for takeout as it is quite small and the seating for about six diners often gets filled quickly. That said, the service is outstanding and welcoming. The onigiri, green teas, and lattes are delicious and hit the spot without getting overwhelmingly full. I highly recommend the grass-fed beef onigiri and the tuna onigiri. They are so good I haven't yet tried anything else.
The rice balls are satisfying and delicious. There are also various fresh, healthy and light side dishes. The food is reasonably priced given the high quality and friendly service:)
I ordered a chicken bento box with edamame, pickled radish, and two onigiri brown rice balls. One with miso paste and the other with ume (sour plum) paste. Everything was incredibly delicious, flavorful, and colorful. All the food in my bento was fresh and the quality was totally visible. The chicken and onigiri were warm and tasty and the vegetables were still crisp and crunchy just like I’d hoped they’d be. The portion size is also perfect for a healthy lunch. I’ll definitely be stopping by for a quick bite often. This place is truly a hidden gem.

Got the tofu bento box. Tofu was good and so was the sauce but I wish it was a bit crispier. The hijiki was amazing and the radish was a nice as well. For the rice balls I have the original and the salmon which were both good but could have used a little more flavor and maybe a sauce bc it was a bit dry. All in all a good experience and I’ll be back
I wish i took photos of my rice balls to show for the reviews. But i see photos other ppl took, trust, they look just like my order. I got the grilled corn rice ball and the grilled beef rice ball. Really enjoyed the sear on them and it came in a small container each with fork to eat it without hands. Very convenient. Tasty savory very fragrant smell and quite filling . it was ~($11) for two grilled rice balls.
Salmon Rice Ball + Grilled Beef Rice Ball - 7/10 The rice balls were pretty standard with the fillings being quite light in flavor. Definitely would go for the bento box. Grilled Chicken Bento Box - 9/10 The grilled chicken was extremely moist and the lemon scallion sauce was the perfect pair. Loved the side veggies they provided as well.
Love the concept, the zen minimalist furniture and most important the food is simply delicious. Might be a tad expensive but the ingredients are freshly made, healthy, looks fantastic and makes your tummy feels simply warm and fuzzy 🥰 I got the salmon bento and was so into the onigiri that I got two more to go 😁👌
Cute little shop with onigiri and tea. They have other sides you can order like pickles and veggies and soup. The tea is by Kettl I ordered the salmon and grilled corn. The salmon was very good (brown rice) and the corn was extremely oily and didn’t hold its shape. I also expected it to be grilled - like yakionigiri - with crispy sides. But it was not. Overall cute little neighborhood spot with cozy food!
Food was not bad, but not good enough for me to want to come back most likely. Presentation is nice and the space is modern, clean, and airy. Nor the most homey for sitting and eating though. More for aesthetics than being very functional. Try tuna mayo onigiri, that one was my favorite. Miso soup was also nice, since it had mushrooms inside which really added to the flavor of the soup.
Cute place!! I got the salmon bento box and I felt happy eating it because I love Japanese side dishes. The rice balls themselves were good I had tuna with mayo and also beef. Not a fan of the miso soup as there were larger pieces of leaf vegetable in there I wasn’t use to. One of the side dishes I think which is reminiscent of a carrot or root vegetable was so delicious! The salmon looks small but it was plenty of food especially with the rice balls. The food tastes fresh and I definitely will be back! So amazing they partnered with Too Good to Go!

nice guy at the cash register helped me pick a meal from all the options. However the portion sizing as well as the taste of the food were lacking. I do not think this good value for money.

Good vibes bad food. I ordered the tofu bento box and the tofu was cold with a soggy deep fried coating and no flavor. The rice balls also had soggy disintegrating nori and the fillings were just so so. The sides I ate were good and the tea was pretty standard. I liked the lamp in the seating area it was cute. However there are several other Japanese shops in the neighborhood that sell better food.
I found everything bland and just underwhelming. Nothing impressed me here. Food that simply got me full. The main proteins were tasty but the onigiri and sides were all kind of just not worth the time. In my opinion just a lot of filler to make the bento boxes seem worth the time which they are not. Every time I eat at a place that serves this level of quality for this price I'm reminded why I love cooking for myself instead.
Have wanted to try this place out for awhile and was disappointed. I also drove an hour and a half. The rice balls had barely any flavor and was 90 percent just rice and 10 percent of the filling. I've never felt so puzzled eating a rice ball. The grilled rice ball was the only decent one. I got the salmon which was okay. The sides were also okay. The service was also spotty. Messed up my order and did give me a refund but never apologized.
Food was bland and completely underwhelming. The worst part, though, was the service. I ordered directly from their website and showed up with a confirmation email, but the staff member rudely told me to cancel it on DoorDash (which I didn’t even use) and said he was "too busy" to check. He didn’t even try to look for my order — I ended up finding it myself on their iPad. Unprofessional and rude from start to finish. Won’t be coming back.
