I have come here many times in my life. As a kid my parents would take us here to eat and even my grandparents and other relatives would meet us here. Itook my wife here on our honeymoon and my best friend and his wife had their reception here. I an writing this review in the hopes it will inspire some one to get it running again. The soup was great. The burgers good. The service was great back in the day. Supposedly the upstairs dining area is haunted. They used to be famous enough for the split pea soup to be sold in cans in markets all over the state. You can find a PSA in Santa Nella on the 5 if you want it give them a try and I highly recommend it. Please bring it back.

Per the previous reviews, the location itself is a bit rundown. Although I found the service for my takeout order pretty good. Also, at the south end of the restaurant they have a general store and a little museum for the city of Buellton which allowed me to pass the time while I was waiting for my food to be prepared. The chicken pot pie and the Count of Monte Cristo sandwich were both fantastic! I would definitely recommend the food.

Service was fast and attentive, and it gave me a home comfort feel. It has a little museum of the towns history and a gift shop. The food was great, and I had a large bowl of split pea soup, which came with two different types of bread slices. And I had meatloaf melt with fries.

The idea of a restaurant with cuisine centered around pea soup, of all things, was not wildly appealing to me. Passing through the Solvang area, the kitsch factor drew is in, and I'm glad it did! The staff was very welcoming and attentive. Our food arrived quickly, with generous portions. The chicken pot pie was creamy, well-seasoned, and filling. The top was thick and flaky, as opposed to some of the more pie like crusts you may encounter elsewhere. My wife ordered a pea soup and sandwich combo, and I am happy to report that after trying a spoonful of hers, we are both pea soup converts. It is nothing like the chalky canned slop my parents poured from a can! Flavorful and rich, with no chunks of questionable ham product, Andersen's soup is worth stopping for.

Fun Spot to visit with a great diner feel and menu. Come early on the weekends before the tourist crowd show up around noon. We arrived around 10am and got seated right away. Their famous Pea Soup is served throughout every breakfast, lunch & dinner!

We were lucky to be seated at 8:15pm, the restaurant closes at 9pm. We were staying at the adjacent hotel and had to try their famous PEA SOUP. It did not disappoint. I was surprised to see they even offer the soup on their breakfast menu. Take the time to check out their bakery with authentic danishes and the really cute gift shop for souvenirs.

Of course had to have the pea soup, which was delish, but also had the Danish sausage with onion gravy, which was also very good. Our waiter was good, was a bit pricey, but glad we stopped here on our trip to the area.

Stopped here as we have driven past this place so many times now when driving thru the area. The place is very large with a lot to look at inside. It is definitely old building and could use some freshening up, but maybe that's just part of the experience. The waitress was very nice and was hustling, it seems she was the only one on the floor. We ordered the pea soup of course and got the extra toppings. It all tasted good, slurped it down and went on our way. Haha It's definitely an experience.

Walking in looks a bit like an abandoned restaurant so it could benefit from a renovation. The food was amazing though, I had the Monte Cristo and I highly recommend as others did. We also had the chicken pot pie which was great and a BLT. I'm not a split pea soup fan but of course had to try here and it is good. Our waiter was delightful and there was no wait to get seated. Oh and milkshake was so worth it!

Place worth stopping to see the past but in the present. The structure/restaurant was one of the greats that is still up and running but sadly reduced a bit due to modernization but stayed the same to keep its charm. The restaurant is huge and the inside is also big and filled with souvenirs and pastries. Stop by this place to see a classic traditional restaurant that has survived since the 20s or maybe even longer. The stained glass windows really bring out the charm of those years yet still seem to matter because they’re in such good shape. Everyone should stop at the Pea Soup Anderson’s just to say you’ve been here but I also bought a few things to support this place so that they will stay open for as long as they can. So make every effort to visit it. You won’t be sorry you did.

This iconic restaurant is a must stop if you're in the area. It's been around for a long time. When you enter there's a gift shop and the area that's just full of Christmas decorations. The food is down home cooking classic diner food. But you must try the split pea soup. I was surprised to learn that it's vegetarian.

I have always loved Andersen's Pea Soup! Even as a kid I loved it! It was fun visiting, since I hadn't been there in over 40 years, and taking pictures of the novelty signs on the outside! The food is delicious! We ordered traditional pea soup with cheese toast. In the gift shop, they had some sample cheese and onion toast with cheese spread which was absolutely delicious! Of course we bought some to take home. We also browsed through the gift shop and bought some cans of the pea soup and some Andersen's seasoning, to take home as well. It wasn't very crowded, for a summer day, mid week, so we didn't have to wait long. Everyone was friendly and inviting except for our waitress who was NOT friendly and in fact seemed to not enjoy her job at all... that was the only downside. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and of course the food. I definitely recommend you visit and don't forget to bring home some cans of traditional Andersen's Pea Soup!

It's soup season!!! Had to make a stop while on our little road trip. I love historic, quirky restaurants and this one delivers. The atmosphere, service and food was great. Except for the chilli :( do not try... It really tasted bland, yet expired. But other than that a fun, family lunch was enjoyed.

It's seriously like stepping back in time, such a cool spot/experience. The restaurant hosts a travel store, bakery, and the town's historic society. You get to learn about the significant history of this Pea Soup destination, and the highway it used to rely on, long before you even sit down to have your meal. The dining room looks like it hasn't changed in 50 years, and playing music just as old it's a pretty fun vibe that augments the experience. I got the travelers special with unlimited pea soup, bread, and a shake. My first time eating split pea soup and I absolutely loved it! Very filling, especially after a few bowls, and the shake was delicious as well. My partner's fish and chips was an amazing portion, just know it won't travel well if you aren't ready to eat it all right there. Prices have definitely changed a lot over the years... That's my only ding of a star - they aren't outlandish, but a bit more than you'd hope for an old timey roadside cafe.

I have been to Split Pea many times over the last 35 years when traveling up to my grandparents place and the food is good I always get the split pea bread bowl. Although my son and my dad wanted the fried chicken this time and they said it would be like 25 minutes and we weren't wanting to wait that long. I notice each time we have stopped over the last 3 years that things have started changing a bit each time.

Pea soup. Underrated everywhere but here. Andersen’s is approaching their centennial and this location smells like it’s been fastidiously cleaned with industrial products for at least that long but an underlying tinge just won’t budge without some real renovations. Not sure how much longer these authentic American highway diners will exist but this place makes me think it would be ok to move on in this century. The chicken pot pie crust was wildly good, the stew good. The toppings for the pea soup came in sad little plastic cups - ham AND bacon for some reason? Made me chuckle. The breads were not good. I love pumpernickel but theirs was bland, and the onion and cheese bread tasted like neither. Overall, if you go to a place like Andersen’s you know exactly what you’re getting in to. Luckily, they know how to deliver on the nostalgic, slightly sad and creepy but still hits-the-spot greasy spoon vibes. I think the kitchen is moving further from their roots at this location and I hope they can do a little wiggle back toward more flavor.

My wife and I travel to Buellton,CA to relax and also going to see the Gabriel Fluffy Inglesa Show at the Chumash casino resort. We were very hungry from our long trip from Los Angles,we headed to Pea Soup Anderson's it's world famous many people travel to Bueliton,CA to tryout their world famous Pea soup. The restaurant is very nice it feel like traveling to Denmark and feel like a diner. We both order a half sandwich and soup. The sandwich we decided to was the chicken salad sandwich also including their Pea soup. The waiter bought food it looks very good first I tasted the Pea soup it was very good light and full of flavor in the soup. They make the everyday and fresh the chicken sandwich was very so much flavors in the sandwich my wife and I enjoy it very much then we order dessert we got the Honey bread pudding it was very good. We enjoy the food.

Try the soup!! Creamy and not salty~!! We didn't have much of a wait and got seated in an area that made me think of a garden salarium instead of a diner. Dated but we'll kept tables and chairs. Food was delicious and fresh veggies. Only complaint was this weird smell that wafted in every so often.

Pea soup was good. Bread and bakery great! The meatloaf was horrible-not sure if it was that day or what. It was swimming in gravy and it didnt taste like meat. It was gummy and bread like as if too much filler was used. Other items were okay. If you are into pea soup, it's a must stop location!
