La Tolteca Buffalo Reviews
Best Mexican in Amherst/williamsville. Probably Buffalo too, but I avoid the city so IDK. Service is always friendly, food is made to order so patience is advised. Clean, pleasant, and reliably busy around dinner time.
I had the carnitas it was delicious. It was served with rice, pico di gallo, beans and tortillas shells and it was excellent. My sister had the supreme quesadilla and it was delicious as well. My husband had the beef chimichangas and really enjoyed them. They where crispy and equally delicious. Our waiter was incredible and took great care of our table. We had a wonderful meal and excellent experience.
My wife comes here often with her girlfriends. I was finally able to make it here myself and now I know what all the hype is about. Everything from the chips and salsa while you wait, to the extensive menu of delicious food. The portions are large, the presentation is definitely on point, and the margaritas aren't bad either.
I haven't been exposed to many Mexican restaurants but I was told to try this one. I've been several times now and I've been delighted and satisfied everytime. The food is always on point and leaves me excited for my next visit. The staff is friendly and gives off a lot of warmth. I would highly recommend this place. The price is fair and you get a lot of food. I know I will keep coming back here.
The food here is a little too good. Really really yummy. And I really enjoy the live music when played there. I also really appreciate the bowl of mints that you guys leave by the door so I can grab a mint and eat a mint. Although I found the customer service to be great, I had a strange experience one time. When it was time to pay, our server told us to come to them on the way out when we’re ready to pay. So we tried that and we found that the server was talking in their co worker clique so we were like um okay let’s just wait until they’re done talking. So we did and they still hadn’t even acknowledged us. Honestly I forgot how we ended up paying but I think some other employee took it for us. Anyway, don’t come here. Service awful.
This is a staple of our list of great places to casually eat on any number of occasions, including just being hungry. The staff is always courteous and service is relatively quick. Food is great, and being a California native, it's one place I go to in the Buffalo area for good Mexican. I'd like to see more "street tacos" on the menu, but otherwise, their menu is solid. Prices are reasonable and the drinks are great. Definitely will be going again, as we currently do a few times a month!
First time here, very colorful, very clean. Our server was a pleasant gentleman, he was both polite and attentive without being pushy. The salsa & drinks were refilled quickly, even before we requested! My friend and I both had a chimichanga, excellent choice. I had a takeout order of fajitas for my husband and he really enjoyed it. We will definitely be back.
I brought a group of students here for lunch after a field trip. The staff were amazing! So organized and efficient. The kids loved the food.
One of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve ever been to. We love this place. Food, margaritas, and service is always top notch. Highly recommend!
First time there tonight! Amazing food! The flavor and distinction of each dish was delightful! We are a family of six - 4 children ranging from 10 yrs old to 20 yrs old. Everyone LOVED it!! Our server Caitlin was outstanding! Very attentive and on point! They know how to do it right!! Thanks for a great dinner and atmosphere! 04/28/2021 - still the best around!! Outstanding service, excellent food and atmosphere!! Go, you won't be disappointed!
Authentic food and a great atmosphere! I’ve never been disappointed after eating here. Staff is fantastic. I recommend the Quatro Amigos!
The atmosphere is festive and I always enjoy my food choices. The service was great but could've been quicker. We had a larger party but there were small children who luckily stayed well behaved!
My experience was easily a 5 star'er. Our waitress Renee was super friendly, very attentive, and fast. Our food came out surprisingly quick, in a good way! They were so, so busy tonight I didn't expect it that soon. It was pippin' hot and SO good. I definitely recommend this place and cannot wait to go back(:
Great atmosphere with a lot of cool artwork on the chairs and tables. Food is great and reasonably priced.
Let me tell ya something. This feast is exquisite. They start you off with delicious chips and salsa which seem endless. I taste tested one of the margs and it was marginally better than some I've had. Mega epic. The chorizo fries. Wow. Took my breath away tenfold. They were phenomenal. We then get to the main event: burritos deluxe baby. Holy mackerel they were tasty. Super filling. We had to get the mighty fried ice cream for dessert and although I feel my heart stopping, it was worth every bite.
Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Buffalo! This was my first time visiting Buffalo, NY, and I was thrilled to find an authentic Mexican restaurant. I ordered the mole enchiladas, and they did not disappoint! The flavors were rich and perfectly balanced—just what I was hoping for. A big thank you to the friendly and welcoming staff who made the experience even better. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious, authentic Mexican food in Buffalo!
Fun , colorful and comforatable atmosphere, great food ! Wait for food never long. Free chips and salsa are wonderful!!
Not run the run-of-the-mill fair. Worth a try for those looking for well-flavored everything. Been to several Mexican restaurants and as of late, the fajitas a beyond lacking in seasoning and flavor. Even their lettuce tastes amazing!!!
Great food and margaritas. Enjoyed Chicken fajitas and vegetarian options. Will got back for sure.
Excellent Mexican food. I would have to say my best experience yet. The prices are very reasonable.
We kept driving past this restaurant and always said we wanted to go in. We started with the queso fundido and we looked at each other and asked why we had waited so long! The food was great, the service was friendly and helpful. What the restaurant lacks in ambiance it makes up for in absolutely amazing food. One of our new favourites in Buffalo!
It's great food, great atmosphere!
From Southern California. Have been looking for an acceptable Mex-restaurant and have always ended in disappointment. This one took me back to Bordertown restaurants of SoCal and visits to Texas. The simple freshness of the salsa/chips - two baskets and 3 bowls - I had to stop myself 4 different times. We had the Molcajete. It was great. This place tic’s all the boxes and provides a box to go… Definitely recommend! Oh, and service was awesome!
Great food and service. Highly recommend.
This is a staple place for our "ladies that lunch" meet ups. The food is always awesome, the service is always friendly, and the atmosphere is always upbeat! ❤️
Love the decor and the food. Best margarita around. 5 people with drinks just over $100.
I had the lunch special #6 which included a burrito and an enchilada both topped with lettuce, sour cream, and tomatoes. It was very delicious and it did bring memories of my favorite places to eat in Southern California. The staff was great and very accommodating..I want to say more about how great the staff was but words escape me at the moment.
This is our go to Mexican Restaurant. The food is always top notch. We have never had a bad meal or experience here. Tonight we went and Jim was our server. We have had him a few times before. He is always so friendly and attentive. I 100% recommend La Tolteca when you want authentic Mexican.
I enjoyed this place from the moment we walked through the doors. The chairs with painted portraits and huge stylized suns hanging on walls made it feel authentic. The fried chimichanga was delicious and the margueritas did not disappoint! And great service from efficient and friendly staff!!
The food was pretty good. I got the tecas enchiladas. They have lots of lunch specials with different sides. They have quite a few vegetarian options. Unfortunately, they do not do substitutions to make other dishes vegetarian friendly for ex. egg or veggies instead of chicken for the chilaquiles. You get chips and salsa when you sit down. The place itself is pretty large inside and seems very clean and well taken care of.
La Tolteca has been a longtime fave. Great food, service, and Margs! Try the shrimp ceviche - my fave!!
Never knew this place existed until Cinco de Mayo.. it was packed but everything went way faster than I expected. They really had their stuff together. The bar tenders were a little snotty.. but I'm going to assume because it was sooooo busy. The food was amazing and well worth the money. I will definitely be back.
Food was excellent, love the atmosphere, clean bathrooms, service was good. This is a very busy restaurant. Every table full. Yet there was no wait time on a Saturday! Would recommend and will go back!
My wife and I had one of our first dates there almost 30 years ago and some of the employees then are still there now! That should tell you how they take care of their staff which then cook some pretty amazing Mexican dishes and pour some great margs. 4 thumbs up on the TECA
I had the tacos. They were excellent. They have a diverse menu. One of the best Mexican restaurants. We spent a lot of time there, approximately two hours without any rushing from workers to get us out after eating.
I love this place. It has always been a staple of Mexican cuisine in this area. The food is highly consistent and wonderful. We had a less than great experience with the male server that I have encountered multiple times. He is seemingly indifferent and seemingly arrogant... not a smile to be had. I don't know if the management or ownership is aware of how likely it is that this one individual could be affecting their business drastically. I only mention this to help because it is my sincere hope for this establishment to succeed indefinitely. The server is a good server, baring the significant attitude problem. This place is definitely worth a try and I will undoubtedly be returning as I have for many years.
We ordered the #112 a chicken and steak burrito with finely chopped veggies and #206 with shredded chicken, mango, mushrooms, gr pepper and a savory sauce and rice. Service was excellent. Guacamole appetizer was fresh, chips and salsa also very good. Highly recommend.
One of the few places with a dedicated fryer for their tortilla chips. This is important for our celiac party members and also doesn't ruin the flavor of the chips being mixed with everything else tossed into a fryer. All the food options are worth the trip! I've tried many of their plates and have no complaints.
Listen. When I go for authentic Mexican food, this is EXACTLY what the hell I am talking about. Atmosphere and motion absolutely matter in this situation and this place had both. Our 2nd night out on the town; me and my lady waited almost a half hour to be seated. Here's the kicker. WE DIDN'T EVEN MIND! We had high expectations and these folks met them. Clean, artsy, lively joint with a brilliant staff. Got our food out in such a quick and orderly fashion. First off, I love the tortilla chips. Packed a serious crunch and have the right amount of salty goodness to be eaten solo. The salsa, ESPECIALLY the Queso Blanco; bravo! Absolute elite taste. Would've loved it to be a bit thicker, but it was still great. The Cho-ri Fries. Oh, my stars at night. These almost made me faint. BEYOND bangingly delicious. The chorizo, cheese and Pico de Gallo rate were as equal as equal can get and harmonized beautifully with one another while keeping the fries good and damn crispy. My lady finished off with the Chicken soft tacos and I doubled up with a Grande Chicken Burrito and a Chicken Quesadilla. This is not an exaggeration. That.....was the best quesadilla I've ever had in my natural born life. So much flavor spilling out so effortlessly. Fantastic experience. Buffalo was incredible and you all were apart of that. Thank you so much, again for making us feel so welcome. Rating: 9.4/10 (Thicker Queso is always better. It tastes amazing. Thicken that sucker up just a tad; you're gonna have to sell that by the bottle and ya might just get a postcard or two.. 😉🤣)
Passing by Buffalo area and saw this eye catching name "La Tolteca", we have to try! It's cozy, authentic and inviting environment. We have to get suggestion from our server and it was satisfying, very helpful. We ordered the 'Pallirrada' to share and it was so good, more than enough for 2 people. This place will definitely make me keep coming back to this area.

went during peak happy hour so it was very crowded. We also had a large party. That being said, our server did a fantastic job. Service was a little slow but that's to be expected. He stayed upbeat and was on point with everything we asked for. Food was great, portions were reasonable and reasonably priced. Will definitely go back.
We hadn't been to LaTolteca in a long time. Thankfully it was not super busy at the time. We only had a 5 minute wait for a table. Our waitress was super efficient and friendly, and the food was amazing. I enjoyed my chimichanga dinner. Other restaurants only serve one chimichanga. But they serve two here. Excellent!
Liked this Mexican restaurant. I stupidly filled up too much on the free nachos, but still enjoyed my Chimichanga and my lime margarita too. They were v helpful with the food allergies one of our party had. I would recommend this restaurant for a good party night out with great food and even better margaritas!
Food is always good! Same waiter we had almost 6 years ago!---speaks to job satisfaction which translates to happy custo.ers!
Good homemade food great prices nice atmosphere...
Girls nite out! I had Fried Chimichangas. I love the fact that the restaurant uses beef tips instead of ground beef. Fried beans were very good. Had the BEST waitress. She knew what we needed before we asked. Brought water without our asking. When ready to get to get the bill, I asked for salsa to go(which I was going to pay for) and asked if I could take the remaining chips in our basket home. She brought me more chips and two salsa containers. We got our bill, no charge. I recommend highly if you are looking for great food with great service.
I had one of the best Mexican meals here on Sunday, 2/1/26. I ordered the Chimichanga meal and it was fantastic. It the chicken welwas cooked and shredded to perfection. The hard shells were fried perfectly and were delicious. The queso blanco was fresh and tasty, couldn't get enough of that flavor! The salsa served with the chips was very well made, im assuming its house made and was excellent! The service was great. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. He brought out extra drinks when needed and another bowl of chips when our party ran out. The place was crowded so our meals were a bit longer than expecting but given the packed house and quality of the food, no complaint there ar all. Hats off to the chef and kitchen staff! A wonderful experience here. Will certainly be back in the future.
The food is always amazing, but the guy working the bar for lunch pickup orders 2/25 was super rude. Just throwing down our bags of food and slamming down the receipt to sign.
I thought the food here was great. The people I went with weren't super impressed with the food, but ate it, and thought it was decent. I ordered off of the vegetarian menu. Our meals came out pretty quickly. The server was attentive but not very polite or friendly. The atmosphere was vibrant and not too loud.
The food is always good here. I've been here about a dozen times. The service is good. They can get really busy on the weekends so expect to wait for a table if you're there past 4pm. The wait is worth it. Top 5 Mexican food in the Buffalo area. The restaurant atmosphere is nice. What you would expect for a typical Mexican restaurant. This place is a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
Early dinner. The service was great but our margaritas were warm. So weird. Happy hour pricing maybe that's why? Loved the chips and salsa, added on queso which was good too. 2 enchilada dinners ordered both came out looking great! My verde was naked! I like the lettuce, pico, sour cream garnish so I got it as an add on. All and all a filling, great tasting meal.
(Please like and follow if this was helpful :) ) I cannot tell if it is an authentic mexican as I have never been to Mexico before. But servers were friendly and professional. I felt like they tried their best to provide the best service. Food was good but my dish, gravy sauce like food, was a bit salty. Another one was tasty. Rice with corns was excellent!

I ordered Tricolor Enchiladas because i wanted to taste all the 3 sauce they had, Green , Red and House special. Green sauce is a little tangy which is okay. (3/5) Red Sauce I really liked this sauce (4/5) House special house is just like Barbecue sauce (1/5) I would recommend NOT to take this unless you like barbecue sauce in your enchiladas. And, they don’t give whole black beans instead gives the beans paste which i don’t prefer. Lime Margaritas (5/5) Overall it was a OK restaurant nothing great or awesome.
I've been here before but this time it was just okay.
Had a rude interaction with the host when our party first walked in. The food was okay but the service and atmosphere can use improvement.
Come for the Burrito Azteca, Stay for the Chips—But Order In Person. On the plate, the kitchen delivers, especially the Burrito Azteca. The tortilla chips with a homemade-tasting salsa provide both texture and balance, and set expectations the entrées mostly meet. The lone stumble arrived on a pickup: I ordered Fajitas and the receipt read “Quesadilla.” At the counter, “Oh, he said Quesadilla,” replaced accountability, and the order was never read back—an elementary check that would have prevented the swap. That absence of verification created avoidable friction and dented hospitality more than the mistake itself. To their credit, after my partner raised it on the call, the staff apologized and corrected the order. The fix was welcome, but the initial blame still stung; a simple read-back would have avoided both.
I love this restaurant’s drinks & service but when we get our food it it really awful and I feel sick afterwards. The service was amazing our waiter & the gentleman that seated us was great. But my grandfather spent $60 plus tip so $77 and a $40 gift card and my mother and I had to throw out our food when we got home because our stomachs hurt so bad. I cook at home a lot and going out is a luxury for my mother and I now. I even ordered something different entree wise to see if things were different and it wasn’t… I know this is a family owned business so I try to support them but sadly after today they have lost my business because this is the 3rd time I’ve been here with an expensive bill and the food left my mother feeling not well. I almost didn’t want to leave a review because I respect family owned businesses but the food was not good. I’m sorry… maybe if they work on the food a bit
I’m Mexican American and this food was semi authentic. I ordered cuatro tacos, two chorizo, chicken, carnitas. And my wife had combo dinner with chili rellano and cheese enchilada. Sauces for enchiladas did not have that authentic homemade taste. The menu says fried tacos but they were just heated up corn tortillas that were Luke warm when I got them. The waiter was good tho. Cold beer was awesome. Salsas were decent but not blow-your-mind great. They said taco shells were fried that morning. No sir. They were store bought shells. The chorizo in my tacos had decent flavor but it seemed mushy and not totally cooked. The others in my party ordered happy hour margaritas. Not good. More lime juice than tequila. Other than the wait staff and very cold beer this isn’t a place I’d go back. to. Do you want the best? Go to Branson Missouri and go to Flaming Margaritas. What an authentic restaurant
***New Review*** So, today my sister and I got takeout from here. We got 2 orders of their Tecas Enchildas and a side of rice. My sister was feeling all fine and dandy until she took a few bites of the tecas enchiladas and started throwing up. She said the food did taste a bit off then usual and she would know because we order the exact same thing from here on a regular (almost weekly) basis. With that said, this is the only bad experience we have had at this restaurant and they apologized when we called to inform them. In addition to their apology, they credited us $10 towards our next order! ***Old Review*** I absolutely love this restaurant! It is the first Mexican restaurant that I’ve really like! When I go there I get their Tecas Enchiladas since I’m a vegetarian. I also always ask for light cheese and they do such a good job with that request! Couldn’t be more pleased!
I met up with a friend on a Friday evening after work for margaritas and some dinner at La Tolteca. We love coming here, their food is consistently delicious and the margaritas are the best. I especially love the chicken chimichungas and their queso. Since Covid, my friend and I always ask for separate salsa bowls. This time we were told that we would have to pay for more salsa after the first serving. What?!?! Ok, whatever, I'll deal with it. We loved the margaritas and our dinners were excellent as usual. The service was good.......... until a few minutes after delivering the check our server told us that we HAD TO leave because it was a Friday and others were waiting for a table. Wow!!! It wasn't like people were lining up out the door! I understand etiquette and I don't linger at tables when I go out to eat. I totally get it but we hadn't even finished our margaritas!! We were not asked if we wanted another drink or any dessert, just told that we had to leave. I have to say that is the first time this has ever happened to me and it was very rude. I'm still in shock! There are many, many other excellent Mexican restaurants in our area that don't treat customers like that, especially their returning customers. So we will be frequenting those establishments from now on.
As a lover of Mexican food, I can be a harsh critic. I ordered carnitas with rice. I did enjoy the carnitas, tender and flavorful. The rice was a little bland. The pico de Gallo needed some acid, like lime juice. The chips and salsa were okay but more effort should be out into the salsa. It tasked like jarred salsa and didn't have the consistency you get with a homemade salsa.
I came here for the first time in a long time for a memorable meal with my wife. To say the least, I am disappointed. There is a new cook and I'm pretty sure he does not own a thermometer. The steak we ordered was supposed to be medium rare and medium well but instead they were both Well done. The waiters give good service but it takes quite a while to get what you ordered. They forgot to get a steak knife for my wife and rarely came back to refill drinks. The best part was the appetizer but you cannot mess up jalapeño poppers.
Edit to add: Last time I ordered from here I had a ROCK in my rice and almost broke a tooth. Like an actual piece of gravel. Unfortunately I don’t know if I can stomach it anymore.. I loved our initial experience here.. the service was great, there was a full parking lot and no wait, and the food & drinks were good.
I have had better experience here, but my last trip was bad. To begin with, we had to wait for an hour and half before we got seated. After getting seated it took another twenty minutes for our server to bring us water and chips. We got our margaritas quickly enough but then it took forever for the lady to come and take our dinner order and yet another forever to bring us the food(by then we had finished the chips they had given us and there was no one to ask for a refill.) The food was fine, no problems there. We decided to skip the dessert because we really didn't have the patience for it. So, since I have had better experiences here, I would recommend this place to others,on any day but the weekends.
We had to wait 1 hour for food, that too when we literally grabbed hold of a running server to order earlier. When we told server food was quite late, he tried to counter us saying it hasn't been "exact" 1 hour and he will "check " it on his computer! Will advise all to skip such a restaurant trying to cop its guests rather than apologizing for delay!
Food is always delicious. I've been coming here since the place opened, but over the last couple years, the service has gotten painfully slow. Do not show up here hungry, because you will be waiting for a long time for your food. As much as I enjoy the food, I probably won't come back unless I've got 4 hours to spare.
Worst service ever. Got in line and was told there was 25 minute wait. We waited OVER AN HOUR and THEY DIDNT PUT US ON THE LIST. We then got seated and waited about 40 minutes for our food. Waited 20…

The experience here was far from authentic. The customer service was poor, with a particularly rude bartender. The food was unappetizing-we couldn't even finish our meal. The rice tasted off, the enchiladas were overly sweet, and the cheese was of very low quality, resembling cardboard. There are many small Mexican restaurants in town that offer a much better experience. Not recommended.
First time at this restaurant, passing thru We were hungry and love mex food decided to try this place. My experience here was not that great , Decor is nice, it reminds me another fav rest we go often in Fort Wayne,IN. Got to the door took a minute for someone to sit us, staff seems not so friendly like many other places I been. I'm a former Flight Attendant I been in many places maybe is the East Coast personality who knows? The Guacamole was not the best , the food was ok, my carnitas was a bit salty, if Chef Ramsey was at this place he might even fail them. But there is room for improvement. Got a margarita it was ok also. We left the place with some many disappoitment , since we love mex food, and saw past reviews were excited to give a try but it turns out to be a total fail for us.
waited almost an hour for a table and when we finally got seated the table was dirty. server forgot about us all night including drinks we ordered from the bar. didn't bring the drinks until we were ready to leave.
