El Tecolote Camarillo Reviews
I go there basically once a week. My 4 year old loves their soup and rice and beans. I don't like spicy so my favorite foods there are chicken and beef fajitas and top sirloin quesadilla. My husband eats other dishes I can't remember the names but he loves it too. The chips are always warm and fresh. Their service is great!
Great historical restaurant. My partner and I’ve waited way too long to try this amazing restaurant. Yummmy! We also visited towards the end of the evening. Service was so amazing! They made us feel welcome and comfortable. Huge delicious portions that reheat so well when brought home. Definitely going back.
Such a charming little restaurant! The staff is very accommodating and nice! Great food to boot 😊
A good restaurant to try for an authentic Mexican atmosphere and to enjoy their good food. Enjoy the abundant presence of owl-inspired pictures and figurines as well.
It's been over 30 years since I ate at El Teclote and to this day it's still the greatest chicken tacos I've ever had. Perfectly tender, perfectly seasoned. I'm happy to see it still going strong but certainly not surprised. 5 stars !
Great restaurant with huge portions of good food. Friendly service as well. You won't leave hungry.
First of all, been driving by this place for a while and always thought it looked good. I ought to try it one of these days. Today was one of those days and wow am I. Happy the service was great. The food was flavorful. Very playful. They're red. Chili Verde is one of my favorite things made me think of San Diego Mexican food wasn't just your standard place we will have to go back and try their happy hour for Margaritas and specialty cocktails. I also read online. They have a chorizo queso dip that looked really good. Needless to say first but not last time. I would give you All five stars, but I'm cool with the quirkiness of the owls but all the exposed wires from television cables and I'm assuming security cameras. I wish they were out of sight but I won't let that spoil one of my new favorite spots
I've been dining here since the 70's, and it's still good as always. On my recent visit I had carne asada tacos with rice and beans. It was perfect. The chips and salsa are good as well, with a nice kick. The margarita was just ok. It seemed to be weak on the tequila. We're always glad to return!
We had a family reunion at El Tecolote. Everything went well and everyone enjoyed the food. We were a group of 20 people and everyone was served at a similar time. Congratulations to the staff and cooks who made this possible. Sandra helped us out and she was wonderful! She helped me with the panning of the family photo and made sure to help moving tables and chairs to make our photo happen. NOW the Food: It was Excellent. Look at my chicken and Shrimp Fajitas. The portion is large and comes with beans, rice and tortillas. The Shrimp were large and the chicken juicy and caramelized on the outside. All the food was delicious. They had set up Chorizo with cheese and beans for a dip with large thick chips. We all loved them. The Flan and chocolate cake were rich and full of flavor. There was a constant stream of local to Port Hueneme and Camarillo. You will love the food, the décor and most of all the crew who was great with a very large party.
Been coming here since I moved to California in 2008. To summarize: 1. Great authentic food 2. Casual atmosphere, locals kind of place 3. Vintage vibe, the building looks like it was built in the 50’s. The staff is always so friendly and nice. You feel like you are visiting a small family restaurant. It isn’t too loud at all. There are TV’s sprinkled around but not overkill like a sports bar. The food is always fresh. The pork carnitas is one of my favorite dishes and is featured in my video/photos. The building makes you feel like you walked back in time to the 1950’s. Block building always featuring fresh paint. Steel gridded windows. Warm amber lighting with old world Spanish style steel fixtures. You won’t leave hungry or dissatisfied after visiting El Tecolote! 👍😊
A great, old school family Mexican restaurant. I love that it's been in the same place since the middle of the last century and they're serving up recipes that have been around since they opened. I went with a classic number 1 combo and enjoyed every bite. The chips are thick, crisp, and tasty too, so enjoy!
This place has been here for a long time. Ive driven past it hundreds of times, and I finally stoped to check it out. Its an old place, but seems clean enough. The staff were all friendly and the food was ok. The beans and rice were pretty spot on. But I didnt care too much for the cheese enchilada. The sauce was not very good. The prices are good for the amount of food that you get. The chips were nice and warm when we started eating them, but the bottom chips were stale. I will definately come back to try other items and see if anything else is noteworthy.
Service was ok went during lunch time and was empty and server was busy talking with the other staff, had to ask to get refill on my drink and more Salas and chips...food was ok didnt feel authentic more as a commercial restaurant...probably wont be going back..
Here's a suggestion: Do not use a cart to deliver food. It shows the customer that you're letting orders stack up and then distributing them all at once. Food comes out cold thay way. Also more importantly don't put the food on the lowest shelf of the cart. It is right next to the floor and is kind of unsanitary and not the most pleasant sight. Thanks for reading and hopefully next time will be a better experience. Chips are pretty good too.
My wife and I had considered this our “go to” Mexican dinner place for 4 years. However, our most recent visit for dinner changed our minds. We ordered with our meal and drinks a side of beans. Typically we never give it a second thought. But when this incredibly tiny “dollop” of beans arrived, about the size of an ice cream scoop for $6.95, I laughed. I pointed this out to our waitress, who was far from apologetic, not even offering to take the plate back to the kitchen a portion representative of the price. Disappointing. We will find another restaurant. For 25¢ of beans, they lost a repeat customer.
This has got to be one of the worst restaurants that I've been to. The waitress didn't have a warm and inviting attitude, which is important if you want your business to succeed. When she saw that I wanted to try the happy hour menu, she made an obvious face. And not a nice one. The food was extremely subpar. They reminded me of middle-school lunch. The horchata did not taste fresh. The lady who took my payment at the end was this establishment's saving grace. I do not recommend this place.
I had been driving by El Tecolote for the past 16 years and never did I stop to try the place. Well today was that day. I was invited to go to the restaurant by some friends and let's just say I was glad I had not stopped prior. I ordered the Shrimp Cocktail, it's a good size. They even fill it to the rim but as the Cocktail sat in front of me while I wait for everyone's food to arrive all I could think about was "what is that smell " low and behold it was the Cocktail, now mind you, yes it's seafood but I have had other Cocktails that dont smell like the shrimp had been out the fridge all day. I could not stand the smell and yes I did not send it back. I could not bring myself to tell the restaurant that their Cocktail smelled fishy. So I ended up ordering Tacos Dorados which were a little dry, the beans were dry and the rice was dry. The only thing that was not dry was the salsa they brought out with the chips. The staff was great you can see them working hard. The atmosphere was descent, I guess the food just didn't make the experience that much better. This is just my opinion.
I ordered two Bean and cheese burritos very simple, not hard to make. They didn’t even roll up my burrito. They literally threw in the tortilla and poured some beans all over it and left it like that one of the worst burritos in my life.
